View Full Version : Huygens landed on Titan!

The Huygens probe dropped in on Saturn's moon Huygens early yesterday. Here are a couple of the earliest photos (http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap050115.html). Their black and white and may not look like much, but I think their incredible. Color images should come soon and if you want more info here's the Cassini-Huygens (http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/cassini/main/index.html) web site.

I'm looking forward to some of the higher resolution pictures. I can't quite grasp how far this thing has traveled and sent pictures back to us on Earth.

It is pretty neat that we can explore these things. The pics are awesome. Cant wait for the color ones

Here's what NASA is calling the first color picture (http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/cassini/multimedia/pia07232.html). It a colored version of the right photo from the APOD page. It looks a bit Marsish to me. There's also two more descent pictures.

Nice. Its just too bad this planets/moons cant be inhabited by us. Maybe they can find a good source of fossil fuels on some of them. How sweet would it be to find oil there.

It's really too bad that anything involving space gets little to no news attention anymore.
This is a pretty big story, IMO.

Here are a bunch of pictures from Titan that includes a 360 degree view. It must be under some heavy traffic as it seems a bit slow. Very cool stuff.

Those are some really nice pics. Maybe one day we will get to Pluto. Hopefully in our lifetime.

We'll probably need them to launch a Pluto probe soon then given the distance. :)
