View Full Version : Might there be more than 24 figures on April 2?

http://www.yakface.com/2005/walmart/walmart.shtml

There are pictures of later figures such as #31 Luminara Unduli (Jedi Master) with the first 24 in the displays, which I assume are for April 2. Does this mean we'll get more figures than we bargained for?

I certainly hope not. 24 plus all the rest is enough. I think they just stuck them on there to show different figures.

Well, it is hard to say to sure, when Saga was released some stores put out the second wave, including Yoda and Dooku. As a result these instantly became "rare" and the ebay bottom feeders sold 'em for way too much money.

I hope this dosen't happen again.

I hope not, at 5.88 a pop at Wally world 24 figures comes out to about 141.00 before tax so that would subside me enough for MM.

I hope not! Everyone is right, 24 is enough at one time (Even that may be pushing it a bit). I hope that they space them out about 3-4 weeks apart in sets of 8. May 8, June 8, July 8, August 8 = 56. Sounds about right.

BTW, now that we've all seen the images, how many of the first 24 is everyone going to get? I have settled on about 16-18.

I really hope that 24 is it. If they release too many on opening night then I may not have enought loot to get everything I want which leads to this next part.
BTW, now that we've all seen the images, how many of the first 24 is everyone going to get? I have settled on about 16-18.I will be getting anything and everything with the ROTS logo on it. I plan on dropping about $300-$400.

I'll eventually be getting them all, but on the first day, I plan on getting:
*Obi-Wan Kenobi (Slashing Attack)
*Anakin Skywalker (Lightsaber Attack)
*Yoda (Firing Cannon)
And whichever ones catch my eye at the time. :)

I plan on buying about 10-12 and putting the rest on lay-a-way at Wally World.I wanna get a few Lego's also that night.

I would like to pick up all 24 on opening night just because I have never done a MM and want to do it right, hopefully getting one of each and helping out other people at the store, if there is any more :p

During the EP1 MM, me and a freind grabbed a shopping cart and emotied about 5 racks each into them. Went to a secluded area and sorted them out as to what I wanted and left the rest there.

That's a really good idea KH. I haven't been to a MM yet, but I am this time. Since I'm pretty picky about my cards/bubbles, I usually rifle through each figure. When there are lots of people buzzing around me, it's hard to concentrate. I think I'll grab a cart full and head off some place quiet, like maybe the women's lingerie section ;)

As for me, I will try to get all 24, but it depends on if I have the money or not. I was lucky on the MM for Ep.1 as I worked at a Meijer store at the time. I just went into the back room and picked out the figures that I wanted, without any problems.

I will buy all 24 figures, more if they release them that night. I will probably skip the vehicles, and extra little stuff.

General_Grievous

I'll buy all 24 at MM this year, plus a select few such as the Boga lizard, the speeder, and maybe the Unleashed Grievous. I really do hope they don't release more than that on April 2, because it was hell trying to find the Yoda wave when the AOTC figures were released.

The idea of filling up shopping carts right away, going to a secluded are to rifle through the figures, and leaving what you don't want in that area may work well to get what you want, but isn't very nice to other collectors.

I say if you do that, then atleast take the time to bring the cart-fulls back to the StarWars toy area. That way it works out for everyone.

I plan to rush the local WalMart a bit before they open and grab a shopping cart with a friend as well. Except we'll just go to that section and grab any figure that we didn't already grab. I'm not sure if he plans to spend money on SW stuff, and if not, I'll probably just have him help me grab the stuff I'm looking for (first 24 figures unless more are there, trivial pursuit saga edition, chess saga edition, unleashed figures, 12" figures, and maybe some legos).

I'm sure the TRU near us will have stuff, but I think I'm going to bank on the WalMart for now. I'll probably bug them when it gets closer to see if they will have anything setup.

sith_killer_99
01-30-2005, 11:58 PM
I will hit Wal-Mart at midnight. If I don't find 'em all, I will hit the other all night Wal-Mart and if I still don't find something I will hit the last 24 hour Wal-Mart. All together it shouldn't take more than 2 1/2 hous. I should be home by 3 am, that is if the first Wal-Mart dosn't have everything, which I am pretty sure they will, since they had plenty last time. :)

TRU, KB, Target, K-Mart and the rest can choke on Star Wars toys for all I care, if they want to charge $7.00 each let 'em loose money on the stuff! Knowing KB, they will probably charge $8.00 each. Heck they still have OTC Bespin Leia and Lobot for $6.99!!! Wallyworld can't even clear them all out at $2.00! Oh yeah, and KB is asking $12.99 for the VOTC Obi-Wan, Luke, Han and Leia...and they wonder why they are going under! :greedy:

My initial prediction was 24, but now I think Hasbro will release a case each month until relase. Right now, I think the stores have the first 24. This Feb. They will likely get 8 more = 32. And, in March they will likely get another 8, making for a total of 40 figures on release date. I think, Hasbro's goal may be to get every ROTS toy out by the time the movie hits and not release any ROTS product after the movie.

If that's the case, then a big hearty congratulations to Hasbro! They actually managed to find yet another way to oversaturate the market during a movie year. In addition to poorly packed case ratios (which I'm sure they'll do), they'll release so much product at once that the majority of consumers can't buy all of it at once. 24 is enough for one night. Maybe 30 but no more than that.

I totally agree. It does make sense because I know those aisles can get very crowded because they're so narrow, but it hurts fellow collectors. While someone is off sorting through their loot, there is less merchandise on the pegs. If one person does it, big deal. If three or four people do it at once, then a significant chunk of inventory has been whisked away from other potential buyers.

Think of it this way. Every figure left in that cart when you're done is a figure that would've been bought by another person if it had been left on the shelf, and that person will be leaving a little more empty-handed that night. Put yourself in that position. I'm sorry if I'm coming off a bit preachy or harsh, but I really don't believe in "every man/woman for themselves" during Midnight Madness. That's the one time we as collectors should coordinate and help each other out because the scalpers will turn it into enough of a feeding frenzy without our help.

Besides, the cart approach might not be needed. All the stores I saw in April 2002 tried their best to keep each peg filled with the same figure (peg of Anakin Peasant, peg of SBD, peg of Padme Arena, etc.) Hopefully, they'll do the same again, and we can just skim off the top of each peg.

It should just be interesting to see how many actual collectors there are in each one of our markets. We never know if people are just watching these boards all the time and not saying anything.....I'm pretty confident that I will get the 24 I want along with Trivial Pursuit and RISK SW edition which looks pretty cool :)

Yeah, I took "and left the rest there" as 'you left the rest in the secluded area you went off too'. Good to hear I was wrong though.

It would be great if they did it this way, but of course you know it'll never happen. The TRU by me just dumps the figures into 5-6 of those wheeled "cages," making it impossible to get at some of the figures while everyone is digging. Plus, the local scalpers always seem to be the first ones in, and you know none of them or their buddies are gonna help or share, when they can nab a few figures in bulk, then call them "rare" or "discontinued" like they did with Dooku and Yoda in 2002. Heck, that night the only help I got was from a guy with two red guards, because his friend told him to give me one because they didn't need two, and I had mentioned I was missing one. And the guy who started a fight with another collector right in front of the manager over the Yoda/Dooku case (causing them to not bring out any more) was a local scalper from the flea market. Since then, his stand is gone, so one can only hope they won't be there - doubtful though.

The peg approach would be great, but it only makes it easier for the selfish "collectors" to grab every clone trooper for their armies at once. At least the cages give the rest of us a fighting chance (literally, in some cases). I'm likely gonna try going to a different TRU, in the hopes it will be less crowded than mine, which always seems to draw the scalpers. Since Greivous is already a preview fig, like Jango, I don't think he'll be as difficult to find. Palpy and Vader will be only if people decide to get multiples like they did with Maul (which sadly, I believe they will). Ditto for Chewie. And listening to a lot of people talking on here, it sounds to me like all the army-builders plan to grab as many clones as possible at midnight madness, instead of doing the right thing and waiting until another day, to give everyone a fair shot.

That's 121 basic figures, for $711.48 before tax plus $553 worth of other stuff including the 12" figures that were not counted on this list.

That'll be $1,264.48 on April 2nd, not counting the soundtrack, comic book, novelization, Scholastic books, movie poster (and I'd probably better stop there).

Crap. I've barely saved enough and it's anyone's guess if Celebration 3 is going to be more expensive than I predicted.

I hope there aren't more than 24 figures released on April 2nd or I'll be in a world of hurt! I've been saving $300 a month since last August, but that money is supposed to last me for my Star Wars purchases for the whole year!

They are really making sure they drain my savings account this time, aren't they?

It looks like those figures that Tycho was excited about (Han Solo and Luke Skywalker) are just Force Battlers, after all. Hate to say I told you so, but . . . ;) :D

Sweet merciful Jesus!!! Some guy just found Mas Amedda, who's number 40. What is up with this? I hope something wrong happened, I mean they're not even supposed to be out six weeks early, so maybe they sent out Mas Amedda even earlier than he's supposed to be, right? God, I hope so . . .

I'm not going to try to get all the figures on April 2, but I want some of the figures to come out later in the year!

Now it's getting ridiculous. With findings going on all over the country these stores and retailers should be more careful when they do this. I'm sure they could get fined by Hasbro for letting the product go before the release date.

Wal-Mart put them out early.

I got 3 complete cases (didn't see the cases actually, they were out on the pegs when I got to the toy isle, apparently just stocked).

I bought everything they had:

3 C-3PO

3 Palpatine

3 Count Dooku

3 Mas Amedda

3 AT-TE Gunners

3 Chopper Droids (Tri-Droid / Vader's med droid)

3 Polis Masan (medic / crash test dummy)

3 Ki Adi Mundi

3 SaeSee Tiin

3 Aayla Secura

3 Battle Droid

2 Luminara Unduli (I found an error on an AT-TE card, gave it to a guy there)

It looks like there will be at least 40 figures out by or on April 2nd.

Mas Amedda is the highest # I got (#40).

Crap in a hat.

Why can't there only be 24 figures on April 2nd, like originally planned? Maybe they mean 40 or so figures by May 19th, when Ep3 hits. Because I remember that the Mace Windu and Final Battle Jango wave from AOTC were possibly scheduled to hit on April 23 in 2002. They didn't. They showed up a few weeks later, just before Ep2 hit. I think that we might get the 24 figures on April 2nd, then 16 to 20 more in the weeks leading up to ROTS.

Oh, and BTW Tycho, congrats on the awesome find! :)

I spent some of the same money I was saving for April 2nd. With the Unleashed (not E3) I've spent only about $170 I think - and that also included Anakin's Jedi Starfighter. Barely or not quite half that money was on 3 3/4" figures....

Anyway, spending the money now or in 35 days shouldn't "lessen a burden." It's a lot of Sith that's coming out!

Anyway, spending the money now or in 35 days shouldn't "lessen a burden."
What I meant was that I dont like spending hundred(s) in one place at one time (on SW). It would also be nice not having to pick up as many at one time. :)

Reading Tycho's findings got me in the mood for a toy run.
Went to my 2 local WM's and absolutely nothing.
How depressing.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the most promising thing about these case breakdowns...

...relatively EVEN distribution!!!

No more cases with 4 Obis, 4 Anakins, and one each of four other figures. No more short packs. No more instant pegwarmers. Finally...

That's one of the only 2 or 3 case assortments that's slightly unbalanced. The majority of them, if you notice, are either one of each, three of each, four of each, etc.

Looks like the rumored Collection 2 case assortment shown above might be incorrect. Someone at rebelscum found these in a case, said to be shipped at x1 per case:

#13 Dooku
#14 Chancellor Palpatine
#17 Battle Droid
#18 C3po
#29 Ki-Adi-Mundi
#30 Saesee Tiin
#31 Luminara
#32 Secura
#37 Vader's med Droid
#38 At-Te Tank Gunner
#39 Polis Massan
#40 Mas Amedda

I ran into that exact figure quanitity last night (almost) when I found some more of this assortment.

Missing:

Aalya
Luminara
AT-TE Gunner

I left on the racks:

Dooku
Polis Massan
Chopper Droid
SaeSee Tiin
Ki-Adi Mundi

I bought:

Palpatine
C-3PO
Mas Amedda
BattleDroid

Also, by studying the ship-dates and case assortments above, I would range a guess that there will be exactly 32 figures available on April 2nd.

The above plus:

Mon Mothma
Bail Organa
Kit Fisto
Padme
Plo Koon
Shaak-Ti
Royal Guard (some blue, some red)
Agen Kolar (Eeth Koth)

And mass-shipped, Collect. 1:

Anakin
Obi-Wan
R2D2
Grievous
IG-100 (body guard)
Yoda
Emperor Palpatine (traditional Sidious)
Darth Vader
Chewbacca
Clone Trooper
Super BattleDroid
Mace

What will be Collect. 1 ASSORTMENT 2 and likely by June will be:

Palpatine / Sidious (head switch)
Clone Commander (red ARC Trooper style, cool figure)
Clone Pilot
Anakin (Dark Side)
Obi-Wan (Mustafar lava smoked)
Grievous (exploding)
Yoda
General Tarfful

That will take us up to 40 figures and Mas Amedda being the highest number on the cardbacks shown for the movie-release-tie-in-time.

Not intended to bump this for the sake of bumping it or to make a stupid crack about something. I saw the thread title pop up on "Who's Online," and, wow, I miss the days when we were concerned about getting too many figures at a time. I think, across the three lines I collect, I've only bought around 24 all year... and the latest few figures I've gotten are Joes who didn't ship in large enough numbers back in 2010 to hit stores in the US, so I'm not sure they should count.
