Which one was Darth Sidious' master?

It has been said that Imperius was the master and now spoilers are saying that Plagueis was his master.

Before those this, words were portraying Plagueis as being an ancient Sith Lord from eons ago who discovered the secret of cheating death and/or retaining one's identity after death.

Darth Plagueis.

It was confirmed in "Labyrinth of Evil."

Plagiuis is better in my opinion anyhow, as Imperius just sounds a little too Harry Potteresque

Palpatine murders Plagueis in his sleep apparently. or so the published script has Palps telling Anakin. in a "there was this sith who killed his master a long time ago" kind of way.

it's actually one of the better parts of the script.

I understood that Palpatine killed them both.

Who's "both"? Palpatine only had one Sith master: Plagueis.

Or did I misunderstand?

Plagueis it is, as others have already said. Apparently another all powerful Sith Lord that couldn't read his apprentice particularly well LOL
