This is insane. Target has an entire employee guide for this release. And it seems they will be enforcing purchase limits and will have "Crowd Control"

Hey if Target doesn't want my money, thats fine, I'll just spend it elsewhere. Their employees around here are pretty rude to toy colletors anyways so it doesn't bother me one bit to cut them off. :p

That's exactly why I'm going to MM at TRU. I'm tired of WM & Target. I'd even shop at Kmart if they had lower prices. I'm with KH & just want the Vader & maybe the collector cups if they look good.

I guess one good thing about this is the fact that only ticket holders will get the figure. That way there is really no need for a mad rush into the doors at the time the store opens.

Funny, TRU sucks hard around here and (as much as I get toys there) I can't stand WM at all. So with all the KBs closed or closing, Target is probably my preferred store. :)
However, are all stores getting exactly 48? Or is that a maximum number, and will smaller stores get fewer?

Each store is getting 3-4 cases, 12 to a case, so 36-48 per store.

It will be interesting to see how many of these suckers will end up on ebay later that day.

I think the most interesting thing to see will be the condition these exclusive Vaders show up in. I'd imagine most people are going to want one MOC and I can already see collectors raising a stink if they're handed one in off condition and they just have to except it due to the limited amount available. Let the chaos begin. :crazed:

Hence the crowd control.....
El Chuxter
03-25-2005, 05:14 PM
Yep. Especially in areas with very few Targets compared to the number of collectors. And yet I imagine there will be some sitting on the pegs in certain stores at the end of the day in a few areas. . . .

I don't see anything that says figures are limited (except Vader, who is a limited item anyway).

I think I read on here that he comes with a clamshell, similar to the VOTC figures. Don't take my word for it though.
For the guys who have to put carts up in front of the doors, they should have them dressed up as crowd-control stormtroopers, complete with an enormous backpack and all. :D
Looks like I'll be going to Target first, then TRU, if they even HAVE the Yoda . . . this just keeps getting more complicated . . .

It seems like there's no way to win at this game. I'll be hitting Toys R Us at midnight, and then I guess I'll get right in line at Target. How does that leave time to get to Wal-Mart? How can one person possible get all of the exclusives?
Is anyone else starting to REALLY get stressed about this situation?

Stressed? You betcha!! But the answer is - teamwork. Here is my gameplan as of right now:
1) My girlfriend and I meet my cousin & sisters fiancee in a restaurant just outside TRU (this is our normal MM plan). Eat dinner, have a few hops-based beverages and wait for a line to begin to form. Pay up & join the line. MM & Holo-Yoda.
2) We drive to Target to set up camp for a few hours. I leave them so I can drive my girlfriend home, grab some java, and come back.
3) 6:30, according to Target, they hand out the Vader coupons. We each get ours. Then 1 of us shoots down to WM, since there seems to be no limits as of right now, and gets 3 of whatever the exclusive is when they open at 7. (((New info - you need to spend $35 at WM for their clone trooper exclusive. I doubt they will run out of those - we'll have to wait & see if there is a low limit - so just go right from Target)))
4) Person is back at Target for the 8:00 opening. Lava Vader & anything I did not get at MM.
That is the gameplan, and it assumes 3 people working together and close proximity of all 3 stores. And it also assumes that you are a 33-year old geek planning on spending about $300 on SW toys in one 9 hour period.

Nope, Target at 8am, Walmart by 8:15 for the tent sale. It starts at 8.

Personally, I'm not. No TRU in AZ is having MM, so I'm going to WM and getting their exclusive. I'll be up at Target at 6:30 apparently and be there till probably about 8:20 or so and then head over to TRU see if there's a line, if no get breakfast, if yes wait it out. A friend of mine might go if he doesn't have to work, so one of us can get the breakfast.

I am stressing out, but from the Target handbook it doesnt seem that they will be opening at midnight. So if thats the case, MM at Toys R Us, then off to Walmart for that exclusive, and then early around 5:00 AM to Target to wait in line for Vader.

Hit a drive thru and eat on the way. :D

If you have to spoend 35 bucks, and one person goes, how are all of you getting exclusives then?

You guys sound way more confident than I feel. I plan to be at Toys R Us at midnight, and I guess that I'll go straight to Target after that. Since I plan to get the figures at Target (with a dollar off), I'll just grab the first thing I see at Toys R Us and get Yoda. However, I don't know how I'll swing the Wal-Mart thing. I think I'll have to send the wife and kids in the morning.
Another concern I have is boxes. I try to get as many boxes as I can; if I don't get my collection off the wall, my wife is going to leave me. However, if I am booking out of Toys R Us at 12:05, I can't really do that.
I am not convinced that Wal-Mart will have a lot of whatever exclusive they are giving away, either. What makes us think that they'll have anything left at 7:10?

I feel confident because I live ina small town. I always get everything. Especially when 2 WM's are holding the tent sale and it is across from Target. Dont have a TRU here so I can skip that one.

This seems pretty easy to me, not sure what the fuss is about.
1) Hit TRU for MM if you can. You should be able to find a TRU off the beaten path but still within driving distance such that you don't have to get there too early. I'm not leaving the house until 11:00 p.m. (after the season finale of Battlestar Galactica) to take a half-hour drive to a TRU and I would be surprised if there was anyone in line at all.
2) Go home and go to sleep.
3) Plan on being at Target 40 minutes before they open, which means you will only be in line for ten minutes before they hand out the Vader coupons. You should be able to get at least five hours' sleep.
4) Once you get done at Target, hit Wal-Mart for their tent sale.
5) Go home with your hundreds of dollars of Episode III toys, your exclusive Yoda and Vader, get some real sleep, and when you wake up, start hanging things on the wall or opening them up.

I'll be at my Wal-Mart in Stormtrooper gera, but I'll hardly be "crowd control", I'll be there more as set decoration. :p
I won't be able to get on of the Target exclusive Vaders, since I'll be working that morning. :dis: :bored:

Thanks to all the scalpers in my area, my original plan to hit Target in the hopes of getting whatever I miss at MM is all but dead - 3 years ago only two people were there at 8am, but thanks to the ridiculous "limited" Vader, all the crooks will be camped out early. I'll give Target a shot about an hour before they open, but at this point I won't lose sleep over it if I can't get Vader - it's not worth getting to Target 2 hours early just to beat a bunch of scalpers and their buddies who will show up to get as many of the Vaders (and all the popular figures) they can.
Of course, if Target actually enforces a 1-per-person limit on the figures, then I'm all for it, since I only want one of each anyway. Gonna have to try not to stress over it too much, and just see what happens.

From what I've read Vader does indeed come in a clamshell similar to the VOTC style and the bottom says "Target Exclusive."

I'm glad I don't have any interest in the TRU or Target exclusive. I've got enough to worry about trying to beat scalping scum to the Clone Troopers.
I like Target, probably my favorite store for Toy hunts, but I do think this plan is a bit overboard. It's not like Elvis' ghost is coming in to hand out gold bricks, it's a few dozen Star Wars collectors trying to get an lousy exclusive. Now I know why they're called 'Target' they have snipers on the roof! ;)

Well Target is only getting the money foe the Vader WM and TRU will get the rest since they have no limit policy . Fine by me less impulse buying:p

Does anyone know the exact limit in target? And any idea for 24hr target policies?
In Colorado Springs, we had a 24 hour target.. I wonder how that would work.
Fortunately here in Minot ND my only competitors are from the Air Force base, guranteed they will wait till morning. SO here is my plan
Get to WM at 11:00 Scope it out before midnight, stop at the mcdonalds inside.(Mickey D's is open 24hrs btw ;))
After that, Denny's then sleep, then get to target at 6:30 and be the only one in line when they hand out coupons, grab my vader and go!
Im also taking this time to announce that you all can take advantage of my secludedness, If my predictions are true, and there are no collectors here, I'll be taking orders for merch and stuff, email me or aim me, let me know!

I think they are only allowing 1 per each figure so people like Tycho don't horde all the army builders. Personally, I haven't a problem with that during the first week of sale. Unfortunately, the idiots at the Target near where I live misunderstood the directions and would only let me buy one deluxe figure and one basic figure the last time around (for AOTC). Duh.
