The AT-RT ..hmmm...what can I say? SUCKS! The Biker Scout....I mean the BARC Trooper...I mean I've seen bootlegs on www.toysrgus.com (http://www.toysrgus.com) that were much better than the AT-RT driver. In a real life military application (or in all our cases On-Line via SW Battlefield or SW Galaxies) the pilot is in a fully clear shot range and the rig can easily fall into enemy hands. What is the necessity of the Empire/Rebuplic of such a WMD when a droid could do the same task? Possibly in the future (Epsiodes IV,V,VI) where continuity is concerned and Palpatine did ban Droid armies then maybe I can see the need for an AT-ST or an AT-AT where the armour plating is so thick and heavy that one may presumed that such vehicle is a droid or AI controlled. When I say this I feel cheated unless the AT-RT is in reality an Anti-aircraft/Anti-personnel unit and not a tank like the afore mentioned AT-ST and AT-ATs were.

My main problem with the AT-RT is that it could and should have been an AT-PT, just like the Republic battle cruisers first seen at the end of AOTC could and should have been Victory Class Star destroyers. I think the expanded universe novels deserved a bit more acknowledgment than Lucas gave them. After-all they did rekindle the popularity of Star Wars in the early nineties.

Your technical point about the AT-PT is quite valid about the controller being exposed. And guess what an AT-PT would also have made more sense in this regard because its a closed armoured cockpit.

Well, when it comes to military application...what's the point of any walking vehicle? Repulsorlifts are much better. The SW Technical Manuals I believe talk about morale, and how the AT-ATs use legs to strike fear into the hearts of those Rebel scum!

Because a giant metal chicken is so much more interesting to see on film than a boring old hovercraft. :D

You tell 'em BB. HOOOAH! The Trade Fed's ships were boring in TPM with said repulsor lifts ! Bonus points for Beckmen for pointing out that seeing a giant anything coming at you would lower morale! The DK books are always apologetic when it comes to continuity or topics of concern to gamers.

I Also Was Trying To Figure Out What It Was For. It Was In Clone Wars Cartoon If I Remember Right. Also It Could Be A Modern Day Mounted Police. Do Repulser Lifts Work In Tall Grass?what About Taking Prisoners And Marching Them. Could Be Used As Escort.say Maybe On Kasyyyk. In The Over Run Forests Where It Would Be Difficult To Get Ships In To Land.

No convert here, my first impression on seeing pics was "Mini Rig" like the CAP-whatever it was
If it was an AA platform I guess it makes more sense, but the design seems to be the most "Low Price-point Toy" inspired design so far (althought GG's stupid "bike" could take that honour to, have to see it in action)

But yeah, why you would wanna design a vehicle that basically improves the range of an effective headshot against the "pilot" is FAR beyond me

I think this is the ticket.

We have seen the heros ofter riding local animals and such. Taun tuans, Dewbecks, Opees, Bogas, dragon flies (I guess it keeps getting weirder). I have always thought of each of these as being a beast of burden - getting their rider from a to b without walking.

It would then make sense for a rather large army to want a similar dependable ride. Why not mechanize it?

Certainly it is not the BEST application - but a stormie on a de3wbeck is a nice sniper target...

Actually the wheel bike is a pretty decent vehicle. Blpows this thing away.

Which is by the time ESB rolls around they have become the AT-ST

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sits around expending mental energy thinking about this stuff...

While I agree with the point of it putting the operator in the open, it is a recon vehicle. So it's designed less for in battle tactics and more for scouting. The open cockpit makes sense (to me) since it would give the operator a larger field of vision while scouting.

As far as the toy itself, I just found it yesterday and I love it. I don't have batteries for it yet, but I imagine it looking in the film like a motorized tauntuan, like someone else said. The figure's lack of POA sucks, but it does look great while on the vehicle, which to me is the most important aspect of a pack in. I wish I could afford a few more of these!

I've said it in other threads, and I will say it here. This figure SUCKS. It destoys the overall rating of this vehicle.

I won't even start on the figures that came with the Boga, Wheelbike, & BARC.

I'm late jumping on this thread but i'll throw my hat in the ring as well

Realistic military application - very poor, exposed pilot above the heads of anyone to provide him cover, blah blah blah...

Toy - pilot .. well now i have a fig that can do the chicken dance with the bikerscouts from the speeder bikes, and the bloody walker stubles around like the driver is highly intoxicated. I know the gasps that i actually open and play with my toys... whatever.... i would have accepted just about anything to make the "walking" motion... heck i'd rather have the spring button like on the AT ST but that just sucks. thank goodness i have my ARC-170 to comfort me.

Heck, Hasbro barely got this thing to stand up by itself, it's nutso I think.

I don't dislike the AT-RT, it's like the Imperial version of the STAP, for recon and demoralizing impact; plus I bet it'd be nasty walking through crowds of enemies, most of its armor is concentrated on the lower front area. The toy's figure sucks, but can be replaced by the Clone Trooper #6, and the walking doesn't look too bad if you guide one of the legs a little - even if you don't though, it does walk straight even as it waddles left and right.

but I imagine it looking in the film like a motorized tauntuan, like someone else said. "Someone" lied dude. :p The walking action is a waddling shuffle, like an oversized wind-up toy. If you guide one of the legs at the rear "knee" slightly though, it does seem much less silly.

STAP! STAP! Don't get me started about the STAP, pull out the old forums from when Thrawn and them were still here to save everyone head aches. I once put another battle droid embracing the pilot and played "Love's Theme" and started to push the buttons. Oh YOUNG DROID LOVE!!
The AT-RT's SHOULD have come out in ROTJ along with the AT-ATs and AT-STs. It would have been a hoot to see an Ewok ride around in a AT-RT! Am I right?

Actually, I meant I thought it would look that way in the movie. I knew the toy wouldn't.

I just try not to overthink the military applications and stuff like that. If I did let myself think about it more I'd hate the movies because THERE'S NO SOUND IN SPACE!!!! There's no fire either (not with oxygen to fuel it). So the massive explosions with the deafening sound is all a load of crap! But I just try not to think about it.

LOL, that's what I tell myself too...even tho most of the space battle views and screen shots come from outside the ships involved in the battle...SHUT UP SELF!

Whereas TREKKERS/ TREKKORS only watch Star Trek and related paraphanalia and collect or watch nothing else! I learned that being a veteran of many cons and being a former vendor of baseball memorobilia (Capt. Sisko LOVES Baseball especially the Negro Leagues and the London Kings {not a real team})

Harlan Ellison would love you as fan...if he liked people. Harlan Ellison wrote several Trek episodes, won the Hugo award for the one with Ms Keelher and Capt. Kirk fell in love in the 1930's. His own stuff resembles Issac Assimov and Ray Bradbury who lean towards Science than Fiction.
