I totally forgot to make a thread about these! If you post these tonight or until about halfway through the day tomorrow, I might be able to ask Hasbro some of them. Here's what I'd like to know:

*After the ROTS line, what will the card look like? Will it be OTC again?
*Is the new post-ROTS line just of 12 vintage reproductions like the Early Bird Set, or will there be more figures and new characters too?
*Will the ROTS line continue past the initial 56 figures? If so, then when will it end?
*Will we ever see the AT-TE?
*What about other fan-favorite vehicles - Bongo, Sith Infiltrator, etc.?
*What about new playsets?
*When will the next fan poll be?
*Who won the designer for a day contest, and what did they design?

Feel free to add your own questions!

these 4 questions are the ones i had on my mind to ask Hasbro. IMO, you pretty much covered up what i think the main questions will be from fans.

1. but i do want to know what their plans for the Unleashed series is. if it's doing as well as they hoped, or if they plan on canceling it.

2. if they are going to continue the CW cartoon series basic figures, and who can we expect.

3. if they are going to bring back the cinema scene 3 packs for all the movies.

edit: 4. i will ask Hasbro if they ever consider making a Ralph McQuarrie collection since the fan choice stormtrooper one the vote . his concept art is amazing, and figures of his artwork would be amazing. but this is my opinion.

thats all i can think of for now, when i go to C III, i'm sure i will have more.

If they plan on releasing prequal trilogy figures on vintage style cards... Like the Vintage OTC. They can skip the clam shell to keep costs down!

One question, alright two, but it deals with the same thing.

-Should I throw my Jedi Master Points away since I never got to use them in your auctions and is there any point to saving the current Proof Of Purchases?

Good one. I have probably 10,000+ Jedi Points that I would like to think are not WORTHLESS. Please do something with them. And NO AUCTIONS. It should be some kind of mail-away. And give us some choices. Alot of people want figure stands. Some want exclusive figures like the good 'ole days. Just please GIVE US SOMETHING.

Well I'm going and these are good questions so I'll ask them. Steve will be covering the event for you guys, so I'm sure he'll look in this thread for suggestions for his interviews.

-I'm going to ask about the television show figures, and when they'll plan on designs for them. Realistic, cartoon, or both?

Yeah, like the Detention Block Rescue and Death Star Escape playsets from the POTF2 line. Make them small like that, but able to connect to each other to build a large playset.

Ask them what the hell happened to the toy fair Q&A?

All I care about is OT figures, and will the OTC be back with new figures, not rehash?

When will the God AWFUL ROTS card be gone?

The same questions as always, it seems. More big vehicles! More big playsets!

Believe me, I'd like to see a lot of these things as much as anyone else, but sadly, we live in the Wal-Mart economy, and Wal-Mart doesn't want Star Wars to hog all the toy aisle shelf-space with large vehicles and playsets when they can break it down into smaller vehicles (and other toy lines) that parents are more likely to buy on a casual whim, rather than only at Birthdays and/or Christmas.

"But why don't they make them an exclusive like the Shuttle or the Sandcrawler?"

Well, the Shuttle ended up being clearanced. -Not- a good thing for Hasbro's bottom line, and sending a signal to them that the 'Collector's market' wouldn't support a vehicle like that. And since we collectors tend to demand that vehicles be 'in scale' or very near it, most of the vehicles people are asking for would be at least 'gunship assortment' size. The less a toy company produces of something, the more it costs per unit. So an 'exclusive' Sith Infiltrator that costs $29.99 if it makes it to mass market will cost $59.99 as an 'exclusive'. Maybe less if it's a Wal-Mart, Target, or Toys R Us exclusive where they produce enough to bring the cost down.

Expanded Universe doesn't have the 'recognition' that the core movie characters do. Yes, the Expanded Universe figures Hasbro produced in the 90's sold out quickly, but that was because there never were as many produced in the first place. If Wal-Mart and Target and whoever only orders a quarter as many cases as they would for say, a new wave of OTC figures, sure it's going to seem like they sell out quickly. And Hasbro is about making money. They'll make more money selling 500,000 repackaged Cantina Hans to Wal-Mart than they would selling 100,000 of Jacen Solo, Ulic Qel-Droma or Quinlan Vos.

As usual, Collectors aren't considered a significant enough market share to warrant mass-producing these items. I think the Collector market (especially for Star Wars) is bigger than most toy company executives realize, but until someone gets into that level of influence that understands that, we're going to continue to be passed over in favor of the soccer moms and the Pokemon generation. Hasbro will toss out a bone occasionally to keep us from abandoning them in droves, but we will -never- be the main focus of their marketing. We're never satisfied with what we get when they -do- cater to us, and when they don't, we complain that we're being neglected. (Not -all- of us, mind you, but I guarantee you find a lot more whining than accolades on these collectors forums).

But I'm sure when they're asked at CIII, the Hasbro Reps will give us all sorts of false hope and say whatever it takes to make the collector-oriented crowd happy. Some of it might even be true. But the bottom line is that unless a million people pre-pay for Hasbro to produce most of these items, they'll likely never see the light of day.

Very nicely put Jmacq. I for one would be more than happy to pay Hasbro in advance to get some of the larger vehicles and playsets.

I don't understand why, with the internet today, Hasbro does not sell their items themselves. They would make a KILLING. Also, how many of you that collect to open would be interested in buying your figures in baggies from Hasbro. I know alot of the army builders would be. Escpecially if they sold them @ a discount. It would save them tons of money on packaging and they could pass on the savings to the customers. I, for one, would buy all of my figures direct from Hasbro in little baggies, if they would ever offer that. It would save me time & money from having to go to the store constantly to try to find the figures that I need.

They could sell their figures loose @ $4 each and probably make a killing. Who here would buy their figures loose from Hasbro for that price???

Come on Hasbro, I only have 1 year of college, and I am smart enough to know that this would make you a ton of money.

In the spirit of keeping this post on-topic, I'll refrain from more discussion of Hasbro's generally anti-collector policies, and offer up my own questions (though I'll be there in person to ask):

Hasbro recently ceased production of the 3 3/4 inch G.I. Joe figures in favor of a new and different format. Are there any plans to change the format of the Star Wars line in a similar fashion? (Note that I don't -want- to see this, but I'm curious if Hasbro would pull something like this. Then again, since Force-Battlers are warming pegs everywhere, from what I've seen, that may answer the question for us.)

How does Hasbro plan to keep the Star Wars line viable -outside- the collector's market without the publicity of a new movie to bolster product sales?

And my purely selfish question (Not related to the action figures, but rather a subsidiary of Hasbro that I don't think will have their own panel at the Celebration):

Will there be any further support for the D20 Star Wars Role-Playing game, or has the line been scrapped in favor of 'Star Wars Miniatures'?

Could be the right match between scale, price, and possibly exclusive retailer willing to carry it.

I doubt K-Mart would take it. Wal-Mart is such a large retailer that their individual stores actually compete with each other now, so the "exclusivity" of a WM-only item is lessened. Maybe Target or KB Toys. Diamond, the company that sold the Sandcrawler, might take it.

Whats the problem finding a retailer for the AT-TE? I can understand problems for something like the sandcrawler which is a non-action scene vehicle and doesn't have any potential for firing missiles etc but the AT-TE is an action vehicle with guns, walking action, space for more than one figure presumably...the AT-AT was marketable why not this?

I believe its because retailers take a pounding with big vehicles. The AT-AT came out at a time when the line was still young and before the market saw that these big vehicles go on clearance for about a quarter of the original price. Retailers don't want them on the shelves (takes up a lot of space) and don't want to lose money over them. It sounds like the AT-TE would be big and expensive and personally if it doesn't come out for a resonable price I hope it doesn't come out at all. I want it, but not at $60+.

Slicker
04-24-2005, 01:12 PM
To be honest I'd be disappointed if this thing came with a price UNDER $60. If you're gonna do it do it right. The AT-TE isn't much smaller than AT-AT (I think) so to have nearly the same price point as the AT-AT would mean we'd get a decent product.

beckmen
04-24-2005, 02:39 PM
Well, this line has the big ships at a 30-dollar price point, so an AT-TE could be around 45 or 50 bucks...

Ji'dai
04-24-2005, 03:12 PM
I bet retail for an AT-TE would be on par with the Imperial Shuttle - $120-130? The Shuttle was an FAO Schwarz exclusive, so it had an inflated price, but it was also the largest SW vehicle made. The AT-TE has a large squat body and six legs so if done right it could be a monster.

The AT-TE price could vary depending on the type of box/display it came in. If the AT-TE was shipped unassembled in a non-display box then it could possibly have a lower price point. But Hasbro could pack the AT-TE partially or fully assembled in a window box so MIB collectors wouldn't have to open it. Although attractive, I think this type of packaging increases the cost.

Sith Lord 0498
04-24-2005, 04:09 PM
I think the price will depend on the type of scale they use for it. According to the AOTC Cross-Sections book, it looks as though it carries 24-28 Clonetroopers. Obviously, that would make the AT-TE roughly 4 feet long perhaps if they made it to scale, and then we're looking at $100+ like the Royal Starship. The Imperial Shuttle shouldn't even be used as a reference b/c FAO Schwarz ripped us all off big time (it had nothing to do with the size).

However, the Republic Gunship, according the book as well, looks like it can hold upward of 24 Clonetroopers with a roomier cockpit as well. As we all know, Hasbro scaled down their Gunship to only allow maybe 6-8 Clonetroopers and a very cramped cockpit.

If Hasbro scaled down the AT-TE in a similar fashion, I think they could get the price down to $40-50 like the initial Gunship release and the Millennium Falcon.

This could be the carrying capacity:

Cockpit: 1 (instead of 2)
External gunner seat: 1
Forward crew compartment: 4 (two pairs of back-to-back seats)
Rear crew compartment: 4 (same as above)
Rear gunner crew: 2

This will give us an AT-TE that is significant smaller, but it still serves as an adequete tank for our clones (it'll have a crew of 12 after all). Remember, the AT-AT was scaled down in terms of crew carrying capacity. I'm lucky if I can comfortably fit two Snowtroopers inside b/c of the handle and electronics. Personally, I don't mind if the AT-TE lacks electronics. The Gunship doesn't have them, and I like it just fine.

The truth is that we will never get an electronic AT-TE that will be even close to true scale. We'd be looking at one expensive vehicle, and it would be more disasterous than the Naboo Royal Starship. What I described above is a much more reasonable rendition, and it would have a better chance at selling.

Besides, where would most of us even find space to put our idealized "ultimate" AT-TE??? :D

sith_killer_99
04-26-2005, 01:41 AM
Well, I went ahead and asked the Hasbro rep at the convention.

Will Hasbro be going back to the OTC style packaging after ROTS?

Answer: I don't know?

:(

I did tell here that a lot of collectors really loved the packaging and wanted to see it come back. She seemed surprised.

I am sure everyone knows about the upcoming Hasbro store that will allow you to buy figures directly from their site. They will also have a one of every figure club. She said that they know that they got a late start with ROTS and that is part of the reason they limited it to 1,000 people.

The biggest set back on the complete set of ROTS figures is that they cost $499 for like 60 figures?!?! Are you confused yet? How come soo much. Well these things come with the new protective cases which will sell for $2.00 each (5 packs for $9.99). Will Hasbro continue this trend with the upcoming store? Who knows, the rep said they are still working out the details.

On a side note if you read the sign you will notice that Hasbro lists the Red Guard as a chase figure.
