View Full Version : At what value do you base trades???

In the many years I have been trading I have always believed in near cost for near cost trading. And most people I have dealt with are of the same belief. Something I have noticed here and on another forum is people wanting to trade at market or ebay value. So if they are trading say a Lava Vader they expect something of the same value of the current going price instead of what they paid for it. Is this the norm now or are there still cost for cost traders. I haven't done much trading in the last few years but I wouldn't have thought it would have changed that much

Technically, I'm a "cost-for-cost" trader. However, 99% of my stuff is opened, so I take that into account. I also take into account how old it is and if it's worth anything online. I usually knock 20-30% of the original cost if it's opened. If it's fetching more than its retail price online, then I'll keep it at the cost I paid for it.

I mostly look at trading cot to cost. But there are other factors to consider.

Not too many people want trade, say a Lava Vader for an EPIII Unleashed Anakin. Yet they are pretty close in price.

Now, someone may be gracious enough to trade, say a Lava Vader for the new Target exclusive Clone Trooper. They are the same price, and both were limited to 50,000.

It really all depends on the situation. I have also been willing to trade heavily for an item that was rare, say a bunch of loose Clone Troopers for a rare exclusive.

It really all depends on what you are comfortable with. These days I rarely trade though.

I do cost for cost reading on most of the figures. I would trade Ephant for a clone if I had extras of him. I have pulled off many trades here and all have been straight up or just about equal value. I wont even sell things for a mark up, you get it at cost if need be. Ask and you shall receive.

Most trades that I offer are cost for the item, but only for certain figures. I once traded an Action Fleet Tie Defender (which can go on EBay for upwards of $200) for an AF Imperial Landing Craft (which will fetch something in the $60 - $80 range). Costwise, I could have gotten at least 2 Landing Crafts if I did the dastardly deed of selling it for a scalper price, but I refuse to. Trading gets both parties the best of both worlds. I didn't have a Landing Craft, he didn't have a Defender, so we dealt and both were happy.

For an Ephant Mon that I had for trade (which I picked up for $5.99) I offered to trade him for a rare figure like a Scanning Trooper or even a VOTC figure which retails at $9.99. Excessive? A bit I think. Yet there were VOTC I needed so I figure I could maybe snag one for Ephant.
