if i'm not mistaken, this is a re-hash of the hasbro episode I dorid (star)fighter toy. actually three toys as three droid fighters were included)

originally this was released as a set of three droid starfighters. they are slightly larger than action fleet (and a lot flimsier i might add). the original episode I version came with three of them, which you could mount on a flying stand. the leader fighter in the formation would release a missle (which is obviously the one that is now included in the vulture fighter pack), and the other two would lose their wings when the proper button was pushed on the stand to simulate being blown out of the sky.

i had bought this set back in '99, cause i didn't really believe that an action fleet version of the droid fighter would ever be released. once the af version came out, the hasbro galoob wannabe version never returned to the play rotation.

i see that lots of folks are selling diferent color schemes of the vulture, calling them "rare variations" .

the only reason why i would buy the ship would be to get at the mm (hopefully) sized buzz droid.

bc3, let me know if the buzz droid is indeed worth getting.

These have been out for quite a while.

They are, indeed, the same mold as the center droid starfighter from the TPM set that were all the wrong color...

The only problem with the RotS vulture droid is that the eyes are green, not red, and the blue camoflague "stripes" go over the eyes so that they cover up some of the green.

I have two of these, and I painted the eyes red on both of them and they look infinately better.

The buzz droids that come with them are the same as the buzz droids that come with the Droid Tri-fighter, save that the bottom halves of their legs are a darker color than the rest. Otherwise they are exactly the same.

Theres two different Vulture Droids out. One is that with the camo stripes and the green eyes, the other has red eyes but I'm not sure if it kep tthe camo stripes or not.

The red-eyes variant is the same green paintjob as the original Ep 1 toy. On this deluxe set, the wings are on backwards for some reason, I dunno what that's about.

BTW, I was recently corrected on the Ep 1 Droid Fighters set as I too thought this was the middle one, in fact the middle one in that Hasbro set was the one that transformed, the outer 2 were the one we see here with the missile-launching feature, and there was 1 button on the trio-holder that set off the missiles and another that caused the outer 2 arms of the holder to fall down.

The Ep 1 Action Fleet Droid Fighter was vastly superior to all of these, it was far more solid and had a much better paintjob, and most importantly, it transformed CORRECTLY unlike the Ep 1 Hasbro middle one which had a cheap way of doing the legs.

Maybe they didn't want the customer to become depressed at the thought that the droid would be trying to fly away from the person looking at the packaging. :p

Or...since Hasbro's been beat with the whole "no hard plastic tips! wraa!" thing, maybe they reversed it so they wouldn't of had to rubberize the longer and 'more dangerous' tips?

Now I have to dig out the set to verify, but I do not believe there was any button on the Ep 1 droid fighter set that made the wings on the center droid fighter swing down.

Something like that MIGHT have made the set cool. :)

So it's worth paying the $ for it or not ;) ? I have the old TPM set of droid fighters and they are pretty cool but not as AF.

the buzz droid seems to ba a popular add-in. it's also included with the tri fighter (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=3657550)

No offense, fellow collector, but between this post and the one about the Vulture Droid I have to ask...are you really, really behind on the news? The Droid Tri-Fighter has been out since April 2nd...

The Johnny Lightning Star Trek ships had been released for about 3 or 4 months by the time I posted that I'd bought mine, but I still posted. The MM forum is a sharing forum :D

Oh, I know - it wasn't a criticism - I was just curious as to whether he had been out of the loop for a while, like out of the country or something.

Think of it as a conversation-starter. :) *shrug*

??

It takes a long time for toys to make it across the Atlantic to these Isles.

I am looking forward to my local comic store stocking the new toys from the forthcoming film "The Last Starfighter" - it's supposed to be good I'm told.

Something like that MIGHT have made the set cool. :)I think you misunderstood, I said holder of the outer 2 droids dropped down, not the legs on the transforming Droid Fighter. It didn't make the set cool. :p You can see it in the top right of the box back: http://www.figures.com/archives/images/35/535.jpg
And in close-up: http://www.figures.com/archives/images/37/537.jpg

So it's worth paying the $ for it or not ;) ? Just barely.

Or...since Hasbro's been beat with the whole "no hard plastic tips! wraa!" thing, maybe they reversed it so they wouldn't of had to rubberize the longer and 'more dangerous' tips? Now that I think about it, it's probably just to accomodate the lack of space in the packaging.

I took a look at the Vulture Droid packaging today and was mixed up. I thought for some reason the droid facing the smaller ends of the wings was the incorrect way. (I don't think they were like that in the movie, at least not when the buzz droids were launched?) So basically that whole post is nonsense. :p

Maybe the people who designed the packaging thought that they would be facing the way with the longer ends like they did in TPM?

Is the Vulture Droid the same size as the Hasbro Droid Fighters (just a bit larger than AF) or it is big as the Hasbro Slave 1 ship for example?

yes indeedy i have been out of the loop for about a year now. but aside from that, my interest in star wars revolves around micro machines, particularly galoob micro machines.

there have been some micro pack ins in the past with the larger hasbro 3 3/4" line (such as darth mauls trophy sith infiltrator with paint scheme variant), but usually i don't bother with what's released outside the micro machines lines. (been a tough few years that's fer dayum sure).

so even though the vulture droid, and the tri fighter have been out for several months now, i wouldn't have even known about em, until a post was made here, letting me know that a mm sized pack-in was included with the larger size toy.

So basically that whole post is nonsense. :pI also had it backwards, I thought the toy had the wings on backwards, when in fact the tray insert photo has them backwards (the tray insert photo appears to be of the toy though, so it's still a Hasbro thing ;)). In the movie, the wings were definitely on the same orientation as they were in Ep 1, I made a note to look for that. So Hasbro goofed the packaging graphics rather than the toy assembly.

Is the Vulture Droid the same size as the Hasbro Droid Fighters (just a bit larger than AF) or it is big as the Hasbro Slave 1 ship for example? Hasbro's dlx Vulture Droid is the exact same mold as the Hasbro Droid Fighters set's missile-firing droid fighter.
