Anyway, my team has been created and await defeat at the hands of QLD...again.

So do we get weekly scores/updates/bar tabs once the season starts? I'm a much better fan than I am a participant.

You should talk Steve into putting an ESPNews-type ticker on the front page. :D

All of that stuff will update itself if you go to the league website. It will give the scores Monday morning for the weekends games and the final update will be Tuesday after the Monday night game. If there is news/injuries etc. those will be updated as they come in ie everyday. If something is up with one of your players there will be a tiny newspaper next to their name you click on that to find out the news.

Ok, looks like you've got a solid team!! What I particularly like is your QB situation. Both Collins and Delhomme are good players, and seeing that you have Steve Smith at WR gives you a nice 1-2 combo for whenever they hook up on TD's (and they will). Having Kerry Collins is a big plus because now that Moss is on the squad look for Collins to have more TD passes.
Javon Walker, Randle El, and Andre Johnson also are good WR's who have good QB's to catch from. Toomer is a decent WR, but with Plaxico Burress now on the Giants' team, I think Eli is going to throw more to him.

Corey Dillon and Julius Jones. Two very good RB's who will get you some points. I think JJ will get you more overall points, but having Dillon is going to make for a nice backfield combo.
Not sure about JJ Arrington, but from what I have heard coming out of college he is a solid back.
Quick question: Did anyone in your league get Lamont Jordan? If not, get him now. Guy is a beast (I know because of when he was on the Jets) and now that he is a starter in Oakland he is going to do well, plus make catches from your QB Kerry Collins.

Dallas Clark is a good TE, and being on that Colts offense you know he is going to make alot of catches.

And on your defense, I think you did extremely well. Having Ray Lewis is great in itself, but also getting Freeney and Harrison is going to help you out alot too. All 3 of them are very dominant and make big plays.

I would really be happy to have the team you got. You did good and I think you're going to get alot of points.

figrin bran
08-15-2005, 11:05 PM
kidhuman, you mean next monday morning, Aug. 22? it's just a suggestion but since it's autodraft anyhow, why not wait until the preseason is almost over and extend the deadline a few days more?

thanks Jango. sounds like some Panther bias however ;) Lamont Jordan got snatched up either late 2nd round or early 3rd round and by that time i already had Dillon and Jones. i guess the other guys in the league forgot all about Steve Smith b/c he lasted until round 6 in a 12 team league. i had him on 3 of my teams last year and since he played only one game if memory serves me correctly, he owes me a HUGE year! =)

Ok Draft is slated for 9/1 then. Please be ready. Thanks JF96

I'm ready for the draft now, so I joined a public league just so get a draft out of the way and see how my roster ended up using my rankings. My team ended up with the first overall pick. I can't access my roster right now, but off the top of my head here is my team:

QB: Hasselbeck (SEA), Delhome (CAR)
RB: Tomlinson, Portis, Ronnie Brown
WR: Holt, Chambers, Stallworth (NO), Evans (Buf), T. Williamson
TE: Heap, Campbell
K: Janikowski
DEF: Carolina, Washington

I dropped another WR to pick up Stallworth. My draft was Monday, and so waviers just ended yesterday. Which reminds me: It takes a few days after the draft for the waiver period to end. You may want to consider moving the draft up 1 or 2 days to make sure everyone has time to adjust rosters.

Yeah but Pennington re-injured his shoulder, then after that Jay Fiedler came in and got injured too.
Then our idiot head coach put Chad back in and probably risked him even more.

Good look with Brooks Bollinger, he had a good run with the Badgers. It may be a bit rough but I think he'll do fine. When he took over people didn't think much of him but he proved them wrong. I'll be interested to see how he does at staying in the pocket instead of running... no more option either like in Madison.

Chad's career is probably done. Its hard enough to come back from one torn rotator cuff (Aaron Brooks is the only one I know who has successfully done it at qb) but 2 is even worse. Chad's blood is on Herm Edwards' hands. Even if Chad wasn't the best qb in the league it still is no excuse for this pathetic display of ignorance by a head coach.

Bottom line: Edwards should be in the unemployment office today.

jim jam-thanks for the support. I am eager to see what Brooks can really bring to the table in a regular season game. He has not played much at all so there is a real chance we could see what he's made of. The Jets will pick up someone else in the coming days, but for now #5 is our man.

Jangy, I'm not trying to pile on here because I DO feel bad for Chad that he's out again . . . but they announced that he tore a DIFFERENT part of the shoulder so I don't think Herm really has his blood on his hands. It just turned out that Pennington is "soft" and I don't mean that to sound insulting, it's just the way the game is. There will always be players who have the misfortune of getting hurt a lot and it's not always a knock on them, just the reality that in this league a team needs people to depend on.

So what do you think the Jets will do ? Will Chad be their starting QB again next year when he recovers ? I think that would be a mistake, I think they need to move on. :( Maybe trade for Rivers or something. ;)

:( Maybe trade for Rivers or something. ;)

I totally understand what you are saying Caesar, but my whole argument here is with the head coach. I don't care if Chad was begging to go back in, the fact is if he got hurt (which he did) you put someone else in. That is the purpose of having backup qb's. Chad's contract was extended and in turn he was to receive at least around 30 mil guaranteed money (way too much for him), so wouldn't a competent head coach think things through before taking that type of risk?

As far as what the jets will do, they have Bollinger, Testaverde, and Kliff Kingsbury on the roster now. Looks like it will be one of those "wait until next year" situations. Jets have a good defense, so that is going to be the one thing that may keep them in games, but with a very bad offensive line, an aging running back (who Herm will not sit and put the young guys in for some reason), a qb problem and an ignorant head coach, its not looking good.
As far as Chad is concerned, I hope he plays again but in all honesty he has become a liability and I think he may suit up for another team if he comes back.
We may actually be in the Matt Leinart sweepstakes.

Does anyone have a Running Back they want to trade? I'm not emotionally attached to anyone on my team, so I will consider any reasonable offer.

Who is on your roster?
I might be able to part with Domanick Davis or Warrick Dunn if you're interested.

Rogue 2's WAMPAS!
T. Brady (NE - QB)
J. Horn (NO - WR)
S. Moss (Was - WR)
J. Galloway (TB - WR)
M. Faulk (StL - RB)
J. Lewis (Bal - RB)
J. Putzier (Den - TE)

you want it? you got it! "Commander" Dre' Bly to the rescue!

News
The Lions have four wideouts nursing injuries and won't get Charles Rogers back from suspension for another three games, so they're looking everywhere for receiving help. One option they may employ is using defensive backs R.W. McQuarters and Dre' Bly on both sides of the ball. McQuarters did it in college and has already volunteered to do so next week. "He said during the game that he'd go in, and he just grabbed me in the hall and said he was still ready," head coach Steve Mariucci told the USA Today. Bly is also confident he can succeed as a wideout. "I told Coach that I'm a reliable receiver that can catch the ball," he said. "If there's a chance for us to help the team, I'll be No. 4 and R.W. can be No. 5

if they call up Scott Mitchell, Andre Ware, Rodney Peete, they might as well go the distance and get Herman Moore and Barry Sanders back into the mix! :D

Hey guys,

Just a quick heads up: The Chiefs vs Dolphins game is being moved to tomorrow night, due to Hurricane Wilma threatening to reach Florida.
Anyone who has fantasy players on either team will need to know this.

Chiefs-Dolphins game moved to Oct. 21

(Oct. 20, 2005) -- The game between the Miami Dolphins and the Kansas City Chiefs was rescheduled to Friday night, Oct. 21, to beat Hurricane Wilma's arrival in Florida.

The game will begin at 7 p.m. ET instead of Sunday afternoon, which is about when Wilma is expected to hit Florida's southwestern coast.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said broadcast and television details were being worked out.

It's the third time since the start of the 2004 season that the Dolphins have rescheduled a home game because of a looming hurricane. Last year's home opener against Tennessee was played a day early because of Hurricane Ivan, and the Dolphins' Week 3 game with Pittsburgh was pushed back 7 hours by Hurricane Jeanne.

More details will be announced.

LMAO! Good post. I don't know how I missed that for so long.

I think one would win by default after the other dropped due to exhaustion. Neither of them can hit a bull in the a55 with a snow shovel, so it might take a couple days to see who the winnah is.

I saw that on The Detroit Sports Report on FSN last nite or Wednesday nite (they all blur together this time of year). I was happy to see that Mooch finally saw what Lions fans have saw for the past three years. I just hope that if Garcia does well he stays with him. Otherwise, might as well give ol' Dan Orlavsky (is that even how you spell his name?) the nod.

FB, I don't really collect SW figures much anymore. After the ROTS stuff came out and I got what I wanted things kind of died down for me. I had to make a decision-Star Wars toys or sportscards. Well, I chose the latter. To me personally, sportscard and memorabilia collecting is more rewarding at the time. Not saying I do not like SW stuff, but after so many rehashes and things it gets a bit old.

Let me know who you want, card wise and I will get to work putting together some stuff for you.

Ok, its time for plea # 2,468 to get Herm Edwards fired.

Anyone watch that debacle last night? We have a team that has absolutely no clue what its doing. And all of that responsibility falls on the head coach. Same old $hit last night from him...bad clock management, horrible play calling, and then using that dink and dunk approach on offense when Bollinger was in at qb. Sorry folks, but when you are down 27-14 with under 7 minutes to play you dont call little 4 and 5 yard passing routes. You stretch the field.

So I just hope that after the national TV audience got to see what I have endured each week as a Jets fan, Herm will be working security at Sam's Club in Long Island soon.

Rant over.

I totally understand what you're talking about. My Lions are infamous for doing just that. Although they haven't had a QB that could throw more than 20 yards down the field until last week. They're famous for always doing the short passes and then if it's 3rd and 20 they'll run the ball.

Hopefully things can turn around for your Jets. I'm pretty confident that my Lions have hit a turning point by starting Garcia.

Slick, while reading your post I was going to mention Jeff Garcia. Funny how as soon as he comes in at QB, Lions get a win. Glad to see they did it this week. I like the Lions because Barry Sanders was always a player I admired growing up, and plus they have always been underdogs and I like to root for the underdog (I'm a Jets fan, I am sure that explains alot lol).
As far as the Jets, anyone who watched last night who does not follow the team could see that Herm is clueless on that sideline. Remember the kickoff run Justin Miller ran back for a TD but was negated due to the hold? Herm just pat that player on the back and said "It's ok, we will get it next time." Not the way to get your guys fired up and play angry.
Lawrence Taylor, one of the baddest muthas to ever play the game, said whenever he made a bad play on defense he was scared to walk off the field because he knew Parcells was going to tear him a new one. That is the kind of coach I want for the Jets. Someone who isn't worried about the players liking him, but someone who damn sure earns the respect.
Don't even get me started on the clock management.....here is another factoid alot of people may not know-Herm is the ONLY nfl coach who has someone with him to help manage the time...and still it ends up being a struggle. Go figure.

Anybody else see the end of the Packer-Bengels game??? What the F was up with that? For those that didn't see it you had some dude run on the field with about 26 seconds left and grabbed the ball from Brett Favre. One of the announcer's said it was the Burger King King! lol Which is kind of what I was thinking myself. Then after a short gain Favre instead of spiking the ball to stop the clock continues with the play, then fires the ball after he crosses the line of scrimage (and after the clock ran out). It of course was a penalty and the game was over. That had to be one of the craziest endings to a game that I've watched in a long long time.

Instead of going through my usual rant about how much Herm Edwards sucks, is incompetent, cannot tie his shoes, drools alot, blah blah blah I am going to give major props to Brooks Bollinger today. He took what was a DEAD jets offense and made it exciting to watch in the second half. He threw not 1 but 2 td passes and moved the chains when the Jets had the ball. I was impressed.
Now, even though the Jets lost, I will not sit here and dwell on the fact that our beloved coaching staff decided to throw the ball a couple of times on the 3 yard line with 4 chances to punch one in for the win. Instead I am going to say good effort by Brooks and thanks for giving me the opportunity to stand up and cheer at the sports bar.
And I would also like to thank Wayne Chrebet for his great service to his team. It looks like he suffered yet another concussion today. Please Wayne, step away and realize you have a family...we all know your heart and desire to play. Just call it quits and be happy with your family now. There is more to life than football. Sorry about Chrebet Jangers.

Thanks Caesar. I am sure he will try to come back and play, but hopefully some sense will be talked into him. Wayne is a big time competitor and has alot of heart. I have no doubt he is going to attempt a comeback but like I said his health and his family should be of the upmost importance right now.

The Jets and every other team in the league should "save him from himself" and not allow him to play. I agree 100% with you about his health and I completely respect the guy for always wanting to come back from these injuries but I think it is beyond the point of safety and no team in good conscience should put him on the field; I don't think they should pass anybody on a physical who has had so many concussions. :(

I wish the guy the best, a class act like you said but it's just time to move on. :)

It is a shame about T.O. They were talking about his childhood on the radio his morning. His mother was abused by her mother. Some time after he was born, his mother left him with his grandmother, who was a drunk. TO often had to take care of her. He didn't know who his father was until he was 12. He got through his childhood without any police record, which I find amazing. Unfortunatly, he never dropped his "Me vs. the World" attitude, and became a total arse. His new agent, probably didn't help matters. I'm glad the Eagles are giving him the smackdown he deserves. Hopefully, with his new-found spare time, he can go see a shrink and maybe straighten out his life.

This (http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20051114/1049911.asp) article explains how the J.P. Losman used his Jedi Training to win this week.

JUMP-STARTED

'Star Wars' wisdom turns Bills QB into a force

It turns out some "Star Wars" philosophy helped sustain J.P. Losman during his four-week exile on the Buffalo Bills' bench.
The quarterback stopped worrying about saying the right thing. He worried about doing the right thing - every day in practice - with the help of the wise Jedi master, Yoda.

"There's a guy who's my neighbor, he's a Buffalonian, and his quote he lives by is, "There is no try, only do,' by the famous Yoda," Losman said. "He's been putting that in my ear. Stop talking about it. Go out there and do it. . . . Go out and make it happen. That's the way I want to play."

...

As Yoda might say, the Bills had both "try" and "do" working for them.

You know, after being held out of the play-offs for the past few years, I think I'm ready for the Bills to try just about anything to get back on top.

Hillarious!! Woody Johnson says Herm is "performing fabulously?" If this is what he calls a fabulous effort then I hate to see what a horrible one is.
Johnson is a nice guy and a great person from what I hear, but as far as the team goes, this proves to me he does not care about the on-field product. Having money line his pockets is all he is really concerned with.
He would rather hang out and shoot the _____ with his buddy Herm than get a backbone and make a coaching change. Only real way to make a bold statement is for fans to boycott games and not buy Jets merchandise...not gonna happen. lol
And to think I posted this a couple days ago:

Herman Edwards cannot possibly have a job next year...if he does I just cannot understand why anyone would keep him.

Shows what I know!!

If anyone can bear the boredom and torture, tune into the Jets/Saints this Sunday night. I have a feeling this could be a very important battle in the fight for Reggie Bush.

Speaking of that, the Jets do need a rb bad. Only problem is they MUST, and I repeat MUST address the offensive line problems also. Barry Sanders and Peyton Manning could not perform behind the line we have right now. I say go for the best RB available (hopefully its Bush when we pick), rebuild the offensive line, then look for a QB last. There are plenty of FA's and trade opportunities in the QB position. Heck, finding a sleeper QB in a later round would suit just well.

As for your Fantasy team I'd be willing to bet that it's a smart move to put those 2 in FB. Williams has been pretty consistent when he's healthy and unless something happened since last week he should be 100%. Kevin Jones is another story. He just can't seem to get on track this year. Last year towards the end of the season he was one of the most dominant backs but I'm not even sure if he's had a 100 yard game all season.

I didn't do too bad in this game. I have Roy Williams at WR, Alge Crumpler at TE, and DeAngelo Hall as one of my CB's....these are on both my fantasy teams, not just the SSG league here...
Anyway, despite the lackluster performance of Detroit today, I did like Roy's catch in the end zone for that TD. He caught it, had it deflected, then caught it again. Funny stuff.
The Denver/Dallas game should be good. 2 solid teams this year looking to make more ground in their respective divisions.
I'll take Denver by a TD.

I know "back in the day" it was always the Lions vs. the Packers but that ended back in the 1960's. I think part of the reason the Lions always get a Thanksgiving day game is the NFL is giving some love to the Ford family. I thought I heard once the Ford family helped the NFL out in its early years when it was in trouble. That too is the reason Detroit is getting this seasons Super Bowl as well (or so I've heard).

Thanks for the support. I actually was impressed with the game last night-I figured it would be a snooze fest, but it really was more competitive than I expected. As much as it pains me to say, Laverneus didn't have that ball in the end zone. The officials made the right call.

Since the Texans don't really need a RB, the Jets should have a decent chance of getting Reggie Bush...although Green Bay and San Francisco are also 2-9 and there are 3-8 teams. So, the Jets could have some competition in the Bush Sweepstakes.

Last night was probably the final game the Jets had a chance of winning. Only other one I see on the remaining schedule is against Miami, but that won't be easy either.
Like I said, my worst nightmare is having the Jets draft Bush and then Herm keeps Martin as his starting rb. Same thing happened with Lamont Jordan while he was with us. We all knew he was a great talent and a tough runner, but Herm just had some type of loyalty to Curtis.

I didn't really buy into the hype that was put on this game mostly because the Steelers lost to Baltimore last week and the Colts can seemingly score at will. Maybe it's just because my team isn't very good, but football is getting tougher for me to watch. I'll turn the NFL Network on during the game, but I'll play a game or surf the internet while I listen to it. I rarely even watch the post-game highlight shows anymore.

There was some crazy stat that the Lions have 1 playoff win since 1957. I thought they were a little better than that...at least when they had Barry Sanders. I'm not a Lions fan, but I'd be highly disgruntled if they let Millen pick the next coach. He was fined $200,000 when he hired Mariucci because he didn't follow minority requirements.

I check out the Buffalo News website, just to see what they have to say about the Bills. Well, one columnist blasted the GM because they haven't done anything since he took over. The article went on to call the Bills the "Arizona Cardinals of the AFC."

That is very true. There are no guarantees in this game, on any given Sunday as they say.
However if I had to choose a game where the Colts would get beaten, it would be either Jacksonville or Seattle.
The Jags always play Indy tough, and even though Leftwich isn't going to start Garrard is still a pretty solid backup. Add to the fact that these 2 are divisional rivals and it makes for a test on the Colts.
The Christmas eve game in Seattle is another test....Seahawks are by far best team in the NFC and being at home with a big team like the Colts coming in the momentum will be on their side for sure.

Ok, I am not going to comment on this here in this current post. I just want everyone to read this and think about what Herm is saying.

http://www.thejournalnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051130/SPORTS01/511300321/1108/SPORTS01

Jets coach Herman Edwards cited the late hour and chilly temperature for Nugent's miss of a potential 53-yard game winner on Sunday night against the Saints. It was a balmy 49 degrees at game time and there was no appreciable wind.

"You know, it's 11:30 at night,'' Edwards said. "Obviously you're trying to kick a winning field goal. It's not like it's 3:30 in the afternoon. It's 11:30 at night, a little cold.''

And I'm sure the poor little guy had a hangnail, too. Besides, I'm sure he's only making a million bucks a year. Kick a ball at midnite? Maybe if they give him some real money. He is a kicker, after all, the workhorse of the team.

Today's win had me happy and angry for a couple of reasons:
First I was happy to see the young guys like Cedric Houston and Justin Miller play some more. Houston is a good looking RB and I have wanted to see more of what he can do...too bad it took 13 weeks for it to happen.
And that is sort of why I am angry.....Houston hit the gaps quicker, picked up more yardage than Curtis does, and ran harder. Seeing how he has that youth and speed, why in the world did Herm play Curtis all season, especially since Curtis' knee has been bugging him since week 2? Things like that I just do not get with Herm.

Well now our coach has no choice-Curtis is getting season ending surgery and Cedric is our premiere back.

Other than that, good to see a win, even if it did cost us a spot at a higher draft pick. People want Bush on the team (I would like to see it too), but its not guaranteed he will save the franchise so I will take the win. It feels good to see the players smile for once. Besides, it hasn't happened in about 7 or 8 weeks.

Yea, I was wondering the same thing. It was a heads up play by Gado (unless Detroit had recovered), but the hold did not take place outside of the end zone. Not sure how the refs messed that one up. I'm sure the NFL will take a long hard look at that one and make a few changes in the rule book for next year.

And yesterday I was watching "Red Zone" on the NFL network and Herm said in his post game conference that Curtis' knee had been ailing him since week 2 or 3. Why in the world had he been playing all that time since? This is the same mentality that got Chad Pennington in trouble. Man, I just don't get it. It was on Yahoo! Here's the link (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AnCMJej1Bk5oDw1t3B4br9OG2bYF?slug=ap-safetyreversed&prov=ap&type=lgns). And here's the text of it with the comment in bold.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The Detroit Lions (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/det/) thought they took the lead with a safety after two flags were thrown in the end zone in the fourth quarter of a 13-13 game against the Green Bay Packers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/gnb/) on Sunday night.
Turns out they had nothing at all.
With the ball at the Packers 1, Brett Favre (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/1025/) handed off to Samkon Gado (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7532/), who ran right and was stopped in the end zone by linebacker Earl Holmes (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/3645/).
After a lengthy discussion by the officials, referee Mike Carey called intentional grounding on Gado for a safety and Detroit declined a holding penalty against right tackle Mark Tauscher (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5253/).
Packers coach Mike Sherman threw a red challenge flag, but the play was not reviewed. After another lengthy officials' conference, Carey returned to clarify that the throw by Gado was legal because he was outside of the pocket.
"It's a bad rule," Lions coach Dick Jauron said. "When he explained the situation, a ball carrier is a passer when he's behind the line, and he can throw the ball, he has all the protection the quarterback has. If he's out of the pocket, he doesn't have to throw it near anybody, just to the line."
The holding, which appeared to occur in the end zone on a television replay, was spotted inside the 1, and the Lions declined that penalty to bring up second down. Holmes, in an expletive-filled tirade, said he couldn't fathom the call.
"I have never seen nothing like that, never heard anything like that," Holmes said. "There's no other way to tell me that was not a safety. You can't explain it. ... As soon as you question or you say something or you criticize the officials, you get a pink slip in your letter on Wednesday saying you did this or did that."
Joe Rhein, who observes officiating for the NFL, told The Associated Press that officials err on the side of caution in a situation with a flag thrown at the goal line.
"You don't want to give a team a cheap safety, so that's the thinking and the rationale behind the call," Rhein said. "It's not reviewable, it's a judgment call.
"When in doubt, you don't want to give the cheap score, so that's where they start thinking. So now, where did the contact start, where did it wind up, that's all the judgment call of the officials."
Carey did not comment on the call after the game.
The sequence happened just after the Lions failed to score three times from the Packers 1, ending when Jeff Garcia (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4924/) couldn't sneak in on fourth down behind center Dominic Raiola (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/5497/) and right guard Damien Woody (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4665/) with 7:07 left.
Ryan Longwell (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4080/) kicked a field goal with 9:43 left in overtime and the Packers won 16-13.
"It shouldn't have came down to the officials," Lions receiver Roy Williams (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players?type=lastname&first=1&query=Roy+Williams&q=Roy+Williams) said. "We should have punched that ball in and should have won this game."

Hey Rogue II, the Bills didn't play the Jets. The Jets actually beat Oakland. :)

Yeah, I guess my post very clear. What I was trying to get at is that the Bills have Denver, Cincinnati, and the Jets left on their schedule. Last week, I was thinking the Bills would lose to New England(done), Denver, and Cincinnati and would have a chance of winning the season finale vs. the Jets. Now, it looks like the Bills will lose the rest of their games. The Bills got stomped by Oakland back in Oct. Hopefully, they will fire the GM and the coach and start over. The Bills are actually in worse shape now than when Donahoe took over in 2001.

Did anyone hear about the conspiracy theory that Houston is throwing games to make sure they get the #1 pick? That last second Field goal miss was terrible.

After the Jets game, we watched the ending of that Tennessee/Houston game in the bar. We all were actually excited that the Texans were in shape to tie the game. When Kris Brown lopped that ball to the WIDE, WIDE left, it was obvious to me and everyone else that the team was trying to lose.
Not one defensive player got a hand on that ball....I strongly believe it was an intentional miss.

i think the alleged tanking attempts started in week 12 if not much earlier. if you'll recall, week 12 was when the texans were up 20-3 over the ryan fitzpatrick led rams at the half. that screen pass that kevin curtis caught and ran for a td in overtime was around midfield if i'm not mistaken. how the heck do you allow a wr screen play to go all the way if not by conveniently "blown assignments"? it didn't even seem as if anyone laid a hand on him.

Thanks for the link there Slicker, very intersting. I haven't read anything today of the NFL saying they goofed up. Are the Lions protesting the game? At work today I talked to some pretty hard core Packer fans and they even said the Lions got ripped off.

I liked the comment Dan Patrick had on his radio show that Houston isn't even good enough to throw a game on purpose... they are just that bad! :)

Hey guys. I read an article today about Curtis Martin and how he is handling his season-ending knee surgery and how he expects to fit into the Jets' role for 2006.
I know I bash Herm and air out my frustrations here alot, but this piece here makes me smile, and I'm damn proud of Curtis and my team no matter what. I bolded the parts that I really liked.

Martin Determined to Return Even Stronger

By ANDREA ADELSON
Thursday, December 15, 2005 4:51 PM CST

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Those famous Santa Monica steps better watch out. Curtis Martin is ready to give them a pounding.

The Jets' star running back vowed Thursday to work more diligently than ever in the offseason, one day after undergoing arthroscopic surgery to clean out his right knee. Martin has made it a habit to run the 200 steps on the California beach to stay in top shape, and said "I'm going to run them even harder this year."

"This surgery, this is my first time in my career missing games like this," Martin said. "It feels like unfinished business. It's like inspired frustration that I have about it. I just can't wait to get back going."

The 32-year-old Martin said he had several bone chips removed and bone bruises in two places. He felt so good after the surgery, he started his rehab immediately and expects to start running again in February. There was no ligament or structural damage, a big positive for a running back getting up there in age.

Martin brushed aside any suggestions his career might be over, and expects to return to the team in 2006. If the Jets decide to keep him, they might ask him to take a pay cut and a diminished role. Though Martin declined to talk about his contract situation _ he is due $8.1 million next season _ he said he would be OK with splitting time because he wants to play for coach Herman Edwards.

"I'd rather be here than anywhere else, I know that much," Martin said. "I don't know what my role would be, but I'd rather be here. I'd even rather lose with the Jets than win with someone else.

"I like it here, it's my type of place. I would rather play here this year with a 3-10 record right now than to be with the Colts right now. The Jets, they've been good to me, and I appreciate them."

Edwards also insisted Martin would return.

"By no stretch of the imagination is Curtis Martin out of our plans," Edwards said. "He needs to be a Jet as long as he wants to be a Jet, and I think he will be."

At the same time, Martin knows he might be faced with a tough decision if the Jets want to release him and save $6.2 million. Should he go to another team or maybe retire?

"Yeah, but life's about making hard decisions," he said.

Martin had started 119 straight games before deciding to end his season with surgery. Though he was injured in September against Miami, Martin continued to play, hoping his knee would hold up so he could become the first player in NFL history to start a career with 11 straight 1,000 yard seasons.

After faltering against New England two weeks ago, Martin finally realized it would be impossible to go on, even though he has played through many injuries before. His ironman streak was so impressive even his doctors marveled at the pain he has been able to endure.

"One of the doctors said we just have to write a book about how you're able to do that, because there's no way in the world you should have been out there," Martin said. "It's just amazing the pain that it had to be, it's just surprising you were able to do what you were doing.

Wow, Chargers knock the Colts out of their perfect season hopes....still I think Indy is the best team in the league. This loss may help them a bit, bring them back down to earth and help them get the undefeated bit out of their heads.
And note to Bill Parcells: where the heck is your football team, they sure aren't on the field in Washington!!

Alcohol sales banned for Jets-Patriots MNF

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Fears of rowdy fans during the holiday season have led officials to ban alcohol sales at next Monday night's game between the New York Jets and the New England Patriots at Giants Stadium.

Jets spokesman Ron Colangelo said the ban was put in place to protect fans.

"It's for the safety of our fans, so that they can have a comfortable environment at a time when the holiday season can get very festive," Colangelo told The Record of Bergen County for Tuesday's newspapers.

The ban comes after a sometimes violent Nov. 27 Jets-Saints game in which police made nine arrests. In one altercation during the second half, two fans were stabbed outside a men's room. In another incident, a state trooper broke his leg while trying to eject a fan who reportedly threw a beer bottle.

Earlier this year, New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority president George Zoffinger pledged to deal with the problem of drunk fans.

At the beginning of the year, a jury found the stadium beer vendor, Aramark, and a New York Giants fan liable for $135 million in damages in a case involving a 7-year-old girl who was paralyzed when the fan hit her family's car after leaving a game.

The fan had purchased six beers at halftime even though he'd already drunk so much he was slurring his words.

Awesome that you were there....quite possibly Favre's last game.

There were a ton of tickets being sold, I got mine about 2 hours before kickoff for face value. I probably could have gotten a ticket cheaper had I waited but I wanted to go and said the heck with it and bought a ticket when I had the chance.

EDIT:

I don't know about Favre but for what its worth I saw Mike Sherman's last game as head coach in GB.

I don't know about Favre but for what its worth I saw Mike Sherman's last game as head coach in GB.

I think this was indeed Favre's last game. It just had the feel of a final start for him...getting the win, the crowd ovation, embracing Mike Holmgren..good way for him to go out if this is really the end.
Besides, as far as I am concerned Brett has nothing to prove. He's been a great player and has been tough enough to play so many consecutive starts. Every team should be so lucky to have a leader like that.

As far as Sherman goes, I can relate with you JJB. Its no secret around these parts about how I feel concerning Herm Edwards. Well this morning I was reading up on the Jets forum I frequent and here is a nice little article someone found:

A source close to the Chiefs on Edwards

By Hoss Aultman

Date: Jan 1, 2006

So is Herm Edwards going to Kansas City? Here is the take of a source close to the Chiefs.

"I’ve heard that KC wants to have this done by Wednesday or Friday at the latest," said the source. "Peterson was careful about his remarks about Edwards after [the Bengals] game, but its clear he’s the top choice ahead of Jeff Fisher, Butch Davis and Gregg Williams. "I’ve heard that Edwards has made his decision and asked to be let out of his contract so he can take over for Vermeil in KC," the source continued. "I hear the Chiefs are willing to part with the draft picks to get Edwards provided it didn’t include the teams first round pick. With (Chiefs offensive coordinator) Al Saunders heading to Detroit most likely by weeks end, Vermeil thinks Edwards would be a perfect candidate to take over the Chiefs."

Granted, this could just be all for talk and to start up discussion but I really feel this is legit. Similar reports are starting to pop up on other sites and media outlets, not to mention the talk of Edwards going to Kansas City that we heard earlier in the season.
