View Full Version : 2006-2007 Figure Waves That We'd Like To See

These waves of figures were designed to make the most sense:
They use the ROTS Top 20 List Figures made on this site
They use the Scene-By-Scene Most Wanted Figures from the lists formed and voted on by this site
They include CORE characters in most waves designated in bold
They are themed like 2004's "Tatooine Wave, Hoth Wave, Jabba's Palace Wave, etc."
They interchange from one movie to the next, to keep it exciting for Classic and Prequel collectors
It starts with Classic Star Wars, a return to basics, and continues quickly with the newest hype, ROTS

Anyway, then the figures that you still want that you don't see on these lists could be made, and preparations for figures for the Star Wars TV series (Fall 2007) could be made.

That's the way I'd do it anyway!

EDIT: Hasbro likes to keep all characters available in their retail partners' stores so that new kids, who are 2 or 3 years old NOW, can buy all their main characters next year (when they are old enough - or their parents decide they have enough money to not have to share their own collection). Anyway, fresh blood in the hobby keeps it alive - and have you planned for having twin sons who suddenly want to play with YOUR collection?

Lacking on my lists (for that reason) are most notably: Darth Vader, Leia, Obi-Wan, classic Stormtroopers (though we have plenty of clones), Chewie, C-3PO, Yoda, Boba Fett -though he looks just like his unhelmeted father, Qui-Gon Jinn, JarJar Binks, Darth Maul, Battle Droids, Super Battle Droids, Destroyer Droids, Palpatine, Mace Windu, Count Dooku, General Grievous, and more random Jedi.

Hmmm, that's 70 figures!

I like most of your choices and case breakdowns. Nothing really shortpacked and army builders/popular characters are more plenitful as they should be.

So, you know this means it isn't going t happen then, right???

Ah well, it's nice to dream isn't it...

What's funny is that it's about 56 figures in 2006 - like we got this year - only this year Hasbro's taking it up to 68 on ROTS cards anyway - so some of that list WILL DEFINITELY get done this year. Wait for Comic Con for an announcement for the next 12 ROTS figures.

The remainder of the listed figures from possible 2007 waves were only 12 or so more - right? So if they did the ROTS figures mostly THIS YEAR, all of this list could be completed by the end of 2006 next year.

If we take into account the 18 "regulars" Hasbro would still like in the collection for newbies (ie Darth Maul, Qui-Gon, Chewie, etc.) then it still spaces out much like I have it listed, taking until April and May of 2007 to wrap up, versus 2 months earlier (while we moan about another JarJar figure taking up space in the case before we get Herme Odel).

But this is still very possible if Hasbro produces what we voted for. I think the character and movie balance of these waves are right-on as well. I even repeated the Han's and Luke's here and there, so that main-characters would be out - but newer versions that couldn't have pegwarmed as much as say another Luke Tatooine would.

Those are some excellent ideas! Just to add a little bit if that is ok....
All of teh Ewok figures should come with various Imperial troop helmets. And also instead of repeating the hoth damaged luke. Have one made that comes with a soft plastic Taun-Taun that you can stuff Luke into, that would be mint!!

Tycho-great ideas. I would add two or three Kenobis though.

Tycho, if they follow your list, I will be one broke collector come 2006. Lots of stuff on there is long over due, and the nice balance between the PT/OT would keep everyone semi-happy. Great work compiling all that.

I would add in a Leia Medical Frigate to that list for completion's sake.

I also think adding in a "Concept" figure to each OT wave, one that fits in with the theme of the paticular wave, would be neat. I don't want to beat the Concept thing to death, but I love my "McQuarrie" Stormtrooper.

I was looking though some old concept sketches a few months back, not sure if they were Joe Johnston's or McQuarrie's, but they had early Boba Fett sketches where he is off-white/light gray, with red trim. I'd love to see one produced. All they'd have to do really is repaint the VOTC version, as the rest of him looked basically the same.

I found two more figures from ANH that need to be made.

From the cantina:
the female waitress on the left when we first see the bar and in the back there is a bearded braveheart lookn' fellow sitting against the wall.

Catch up Hasbro
we would all buy them.

Power to Lieutenant Fox and Ewoklings!

Nice List Tycho. I'd end up buying most of em.

Your 1 Vehicle a wave is Ludicris (SP?) though. What if the AT-TE is still stting there and I already have a few? And we all know Hasbro.

DarthAngel
06-11-2005, 02:00 PM
That is a pretty good list. If I may make a few additions, I would add the following characters.

ANH
Commander Praji (Lord Vader, battle station plans are not aboard this ship...that guy)
Lt. Pol Treidum (TK421 why aren't you at your post)
Lieutenant Tanbris (We count 30 rebel ships)
Lt. Shann Childsen (Where are you taking this thing?)
Captain Khurgee (There's no one on board sir)
Chief Bast (We analyzed their attack sir and there is a danger)
Commander Daine Jir (Holding her is dangerous)
Tiree (Y-wing pilot)
Pops (Y-wing pilot)
R5-A2 (Yellow R5 from Mos Eisley)
R2-Q2
U-3p0
R4-E1
R2-X2

ESB
Commander Brandei
Corpral Derdram
Captain Needa
Jeroen Webb
Shawn Valdez (group 7 and 10 will stay behind the flat speeder)
Cal Alder (Your highness there's nothing more we can do tonight)
Romas "Lock" Navander (General there's a fleet of star destroyers coming out of hyperspace in sector 4)
R5-M2

ROTJ
The other imperial dignitaries

TPM
All other Pod Racers

AOTC
Poggle the Lesser
Po Nodu(sp?)
Nuetral posed Luminara
Nuetral posed Bariss
Nuetral posed Anakin
Nuetral posed Obi-Wan
Solar Sailor pilot droid

ROTS
Any and all poses of Palpatine we don't have (perhaps a better version of the deluxe and #35...with no stupid action features)
Any remaining Jedi that haven't been made
Younglings...Lots of them
any and all R2 units that haven't been made yet (the ones from the hanger scene between Obi and Cody)

That's about all of the ones that I can think of right now. If I think of more, I'll add them at some point.

WhereIsTheDefel

His close-up was removed in the Special Edition, but he still can be seen clearly in the very first shot of the cantina sitting alongside Bom Vimdin and Brainiac.

R5-A2 (Yellow R5 from Mos Eisley)

Man, I've wanted this guy from a long time, too. I really love astro-droids.

But who are the following? I'd sure love to see some pictures matching the names below with these droids. I am totally unsure of which ones these are. I have a few ideas, but am not sure. (I'm hoping one is the other droid shown aboard the Tantive IV with R4-M9. . .)

R2-Q2
R4-E1
R2-X2

ESB
R5-M2

. . . any and all R2 units that haven't been made yet (the ones from the hanger scene between Obi and Cody. . .

Yeah, that blue and white one is especially cool. I'd gladly add him to my collection. Yes, I am astrodroid obsessed. :crazed:

Mark the answers you seek are as follows: R2-Q2 is the greyish/silver astro droid that is with R4-M9 aboard the Tantive IV. R4-E1 is the red version of R4-M9 that we see very briefly during the Mos Eisley sequence. R2-X2 is the black and white astro droid that is also seen very briefly during the rebel briefing scene in the temple on Yavin 4. The little sucker is right next to R2 and can be seen in one of the wider shots that show the whole room...I think he is also later seen being lowered into an X-wing. As for R5-M2 he is R5 unit that is seen in one of the scenes when Han comes back from his patrol.

What we need -

Small sets Apx. 7.99 - 9.99? for the cantina

set 1 - the bandstand - throw in a band member

set 2 - the center of the bar -bar tap - the waitress would be perfect
(i dont know the name but her back is to the camera and she is wearing a one piece bathing suit - so it seems

set 3 - the end part od the bar -allow it to fit with the k-mart bar sets. Figure..hmmm Defel sounds good

set 4 one of the side rooms table and booth

Thanks, Darth Angel.

The crazy thing is for the most part I totally know EXACTLY who you are talking about. R4-E1 is in the scene with the Mos Eisley CZ droid. The others barring the ESB one are clear as day to me now ---- I know exactly who you mean. I must say that maybe I have seen these films a few too many times.

Definitely would be stoked to see any of the New Hope droids. The Empire droid, too. But somehow he is not as memorable to me.

Tycho

I wonder how many figures the TV series (between E3 and ANH) will generate - and of who?

-Luke? - does he really see any action worthy of a TV appearance before Yavin? I doubt it.

Leia? - a real possibility. At what age? She might have to be awfully young to explain why she doesn't look like Carrie Fisher by age 18.

Han? - another real possibility. A young Harrison Ford look-alike from anywhere from age 11 to age 20-something, depending on the show's time frame.

Chewie - sure. If they find a way to work him into the story and get him off Kashyyyk. Chewie wouldn't look like a new figure.

R2-D2 - possible
C-3PO - possible - neither of the droids would really look like new figures.

Obi-Wan - will Ewan ever do a special guest star appearance? If not, will they show him played by the 3rd actor to protray Obi-Wan? At what age? He'd have to be a decent Ewan look alike if the show takes place within 10 years of ROTS.

Darth Vader - of course, that's an easy one. A figure would look the same, but sell well, as they've already proven since #11 is always missing from the ROTS racks.

Clone Troopers - what will they look like? It would drive us crazy if there's another breed in between ROTS and ANH's troopers. They're so close to ANH already. I'm sure troops will be in the show though - probably depending upon the years the show takes place, it will determine the style of the helmet.

Boba Fett - possible. An exciting possibility actually. He'd be 13 or older after ROTS depending on when the show took place. His father's or Jaster Mareel's armor may or may not fit him yet. Or maybe they make Mandalorian "tot-size?"

Yoda - they might not have had him go straight to Dagobah in ROTS for a reason. He has a ship at this point. Yoda's popularity and CGI powers could keep him in the action.

Lando Calrissian - this could be interesting. A young Lando would be 13 at the end of ROTS. Where did he come from? How did he get involved with Cloud City? A cool actor playing a young Billy Dee Williams might work.

Emperor Palpatine - would Ian do TV cameos? Reportedly he loved ROTS and working on this most recent movie. With blue-screen shots and a London crew helping him invade "the holonet," Ian could do something from time-to-time.

Mace Windu - some people are asking if he really died: - loss of a hand is not fatal. Dark Side Lightning did not fry him into beef jerky at the time of his fall. Luke Skywalker fell from a tall height with only 1 hand to support himself. Would Sam Jackson do television? A cameo? Maybe...Personally I think it's more powerful if Mace was really dead though. Unless I hear otherwise, I'll continue to believe Mace died during ROTS.

Bail Organa - very likely. Jimmy Smits is a TV actor and this might have all been done (his role) to help set him up for a SW TV show. He has the presence and the ability to carry it. Remember, if we see Bail, we'll likely see Leia!

Tarkin - if they get him a smaller rubber head, and they don't go too close to Peter Cushing's age in ANH, this could work.

Dodonna, Rieeken, Ackbar, Tagge, Motti, Veers, Ozzel, Needa, Piett, Jerjerrod, Garven Dreis, Wedge, Biggs, Hobbie, Jansen, Senesca, Ralter, etc. - it all depends on what time frame the story would take place, and what age they'd be. For most of the Rogues who are close to Luke's age, it'd be unlikely unless they were at the Imperial Academy much younger than college-age. The older officers? I'd bite.

New characters, Jedi on the run, etc.? There's where the meat of a toy collection for the TV show might lie.

Just wondering...

How do you guys know all the names of the minor, background characters in each movie? Is there a good resource on the web that lists the names of all these characters? If so, I would love to check it out!

I'm interested in knowing the names of the background aliens in Jabba's Palace and in the cantina...as well as all the droids.

This might be the heat talking or even just a crazy idea, but I would like to see a VOTC Stormtrooper with removable helmet and clone trooper head. This would then bring the saga full circle by giving the fans the chance to have the clone army of the Empire. :)

I would also like to see a SA classic stormtrooper (thats not VOTC and costs 10 bucks making empire building too expensive), and a classic stormtrooper deluxe 3-pack. So far I have had a chance to build a decent army of AOTC and ROTS clones, but still not a chance at building a decent army of stormtroopers.
I did'nt like the OTC/commtech trooper for building purposes, even though it's a decent figure and bears buying, but it doesn't have many posing options, nor any weapons variety.

Psi-Clon Yung

I would really like to see Hasbro put out some better Padme figures. The one that came out for AOTC was pathetic, and the one that came out for ROTS is worse. They did have that one where she was in her wedding gown; that was decent, but not that appealing. The ones of her in "fighting gear"- the faces are terrible (when compared to Padme figures from TPM) and they need to come out with some of her in the outfits that she wore during AOTC and ROTS.

Second, I would really like to see an AOTC Obi-Wan from his encounter with Jango Fett:
-good articulation, including the ability to hold his lightsaber with two hands
- something that actually looks like Ewan McGregor (he looks pretty good in the new ROTS line of figures, but terrible in the Saga line)
- a removable cloth cloak with hood would be nice too

Finally, I want the ultimate Death Star II- Final Duel/Escape set, which includes the following:
- imperial shuttle
-emperor's throne room chair and maybe even backdrop
-luke Jedi knight (no tunic) good articulation so that he can hold his saber with two hands, and sit down in the cockpit of the imperial shuttle
-darth vader with removable helmet and right hand; good articulation so that he can hold his saber with two hands
-emperor palpatine with removable force lightning and good articulation so that he can sit in his chair or stand up.
-binding hand cuffs would be cool too

This may or may not be cool, but what if the imperial shuttle opened up to reveal the emporer's throne room?

Alright, I admit that Hasbro put out a couple more Padme's for AOTC than I gave them credit for. I looked on ebay and saw the Genosian Droid Foundry Padme and thought it was fairly cool, I might actually buy it.

However, I am still waiting for an ROTS Padme that doesn't look like my Grandma with dyed hair and bad makeup!!

I also looked at some AOTC Obi-Wan's on ebay to see if there was anything close to what I wanted. The Kamino Confrontation is close, but I wasn't sure about the hands. Can someone tell me if the articulation is good enough for him to hold his saber with both hands? Also, I would have preferred if his cloak was cloth and removable, like the starfighter pilot Obi-Wan (which is a terrible figure by the way-I can't stand that stupid com link painted to his forehead).

Believe you me, if hasbro decided to release a new DS II Jedi Luke, the best way to do it would be this way. Make the first one thusly:

VOTC ROTJ Luke Skywalker

Awesome Articulation (Able to hold saber in two hands, also able to have hands in binders)
Accurate Facial and Costume Sculpts
Closed Tunic
New Lightsaber hilt sculpt
Lightsaber
Binders

OTC ROTJ Luke Skywalker

Awesome Articulation (Able to hold saber in two hands, also able to have hands in binders)
Accurate Facial and Costume Sculpts
Opened Tunic
New Lightsaber hilt sculpt
Lightsaber
Binders

Its a minor difference, but that way I could have collector friendly Luke Jedi Final Duel figures and I could have one w/ the closed tunic and one opened on the two different cards. It satisfies hasbros need to put in the open tunic, and it makes us collectors happy to have the perfect version of him on the VOTC card.I would die happy if it was done that way.
