View Full Version : I know why Massive Multi Online games(MMOs) are so addictive

You take a challenge and adventure(which can be addicting enough), a large supply of goals to attain, and have people that you can talk to and share this adventure with. Then you got a case of holoaddiction. In a recent study, the importance of having friends and family in our lives is very key to happiness. That's rather obvious but I think alot of us lose sight of that fact. I think with video games, they are never as enjoyable as when my brother and friends are enjoying them along with me. That is what makes them so addictive.
Never played one, never will.

have you ever seen that movie "MMO Madness"? where they all play an MMO and then take all their clothes off and dance around wildly...

Well, you are addicted to at least half of the equation, with your 7,000+ posts on SSG.;)

I've never played one for the simple fact that I know I'll get addicted. My roommates play WoW and never get off. It causes some marital problems (I live with a married couple) when one wants to play but the other won't get off because he/she has to get "a little more experience to level up":whip:

Oh, is that was this whole SSG thing is ? A game ? I guess you're right then. lol lol lol

Then they should either try a more hardcore site or pay up instead of taking the free tours that don't show as much. :lipsrseal :lipsrseal :lipsrseal

Like Slick, I know I'd get addicted fast. I'm bad enough with PS2 online. I can't imagine what I'd do with a game a million times bigger than those.

What I would like to know though is, with your PS2 online do you find that the human interaction via the net with the video game makes it more enjoyable and you find that it is more exilharating and rewarding than just playing alone by yourself? Thus, you having a craving for the experience day in day out. Because its like a virtual hang out with friends.
This is what I wanted to discuss about.

In alot of ways yes. A game of discussion. Folks on here always trying to best each other on what they believe to be right.:D A game indeed.
But the social interaction is the half of the equation I was referring to. As before I got on Star Wars Galaxies, I was just as addicted to getting on this website as I am SWG.

For sure. It's so much more fun to own some jerk who thinks he's God than it is to play and know EXACTLY where the AI enemy is gonna be.
I play SOCOM 2 online religiously. Pretty much the only weapons I use are sniper rifles. When you find someone else who has an equal level of skill, it turns into a game-within-a-game sorta thing because while all the carnage and mayhem is going on around you, the two of you aren't paying attention to anything except looking for the other sniper.
Also, it's some sort of sick self-esteem boost to snipe the SAME guy in the SAME spot five rounds in a row and watch him quit before you can make fun of him in the lobby

Right, especially when you find a clan that plays regularly. Hell, I "see" some of the people on there more than I see my own wife (no, I'm not a total fiend. Meine Frau und ich work different shifts :p ). So it's nice to log on and talk to some "familiar faces".

no, I'm not a total fiend.Suuuure, you're not. This from the guy that calls it SOCRACK. :D
Back to the subject at hand, I just have no real interest in MMORPGs. I don't see what the big deal about them is.

Being an addict doesn't automatically make you a fiend! :p
