I'm not really sure how I feel about it. I think it looks nice but is a little sedate, I think. If they weren't going to go with the location backgrounds of the Saga series, then maybe they could have tied the particular character into one of the movie posters or something.

I don't know... seeing some of the products in that packaging scheme (http://www.starwars.com/collecting/news/misc/news20050829.html) makes it look a little bland... like an AMT Model box. *shrug*

Yawn...boring..yawn. They had better keep the figure package they showed at SDCC. I can live with that since it was kinda-sorta like the OTC line. I am happy to see they put absolutly no thought, energy, or care into the design for the '06 line. Keep up the no work Hasbro!

I have to agree, the packaging does not stand out nor excite me. Hasbro, are you listening?

Its ok, not the best or worst. I thought they were going back to the OTC style?

Not if this report represents ALL of the product lines... :upset:

The items shown (helmets, linens, housewares, pc mouse) are pretty diverse. So I'm betting this packaging style is primarily for miscellaneous product lines from the other manufacturers who also have the license. Having one packaging style for all these diverse product lines helps keep cost down for licensees and also makes the brand recognizable as a single line.

Hasbro & LEGO probably get to develop their own packaging in-house with approval from Lucasfilm. I bet the Hasbro packaging shown earlier is the one we'll see in stores.

Is there a link to that packaging? I don't believe I've seen what it looks like.

LAME. It looks like they got the local junior college intro art class to design this.
The prominent Vader helmet is too much.
The helmet was prominent with the ROTS packaging as well, but since the shape of Vader's helmet determined the shape of the packaging, it was OK. This new style just looks like a few images thrown together on a square peice of cardboard.
Are the figures going to be packaged right in the center of the cardback (like OTC and ROTS), or are they going to be offset on the cardback (like EP1 & POTF)?

If they are absolutely sticking to this design, I have some suggestions:

1) I think that they need to blend Vader's helmet into the "space" background a lot more. Make it more the "essence" of the helmet, rather than "BAM!!! heeeeeeeeeeeeere's Vader!"
2) The new packaging design has a planet on the bottom of it. Maybe it's Mustafar. I think this design would be better if the planet at the bottom was the planet that the figure had its scene in the movie on. Ewoks would have Endor on it, Snowtroopers would have Hoth on it, Luke as Jedi Knight would have Deathstar on it, any of the Cantina Aliens would have Tatooine on it, Old *** Yoda would have Degobah on it, Senate Security would have Coruscant on it... etc.
I know this would cost Hasbro more money, because they wouldn't be able to use the same generic card for every figure, but I think it would be more creative and appealing. As I understand it, Hasbro is putting the figures out in waves based on locations and battles. So this would make great sense.
3) Also, maybe between the "Star" and "Wars" at the bottom, they could put in "Episode I" or "Episdoe V" or something like that... they could even put the name of the wave there... like "Battle of Carkoon."

Does anyone agree?

How would y'all change the packaging?

I like it, it's a nice tweak of the flames design from April.

I don't know why you guys are whining so much, it's not going to be the Hasbro card style. :)

I hope they make Star Wars TP because I can not wait to wipe my a** with this logo !

I think it looks okay. It's familiar yet new, and it gets the point across well. It'll be kind of nice to get away from all the lava everywhere you look.

JP, there's bound to be pics somewhere on here, RS, or GH, as it was revealed at Comic-Con during a slideshow (but not actually shown in person). In short, it's the silver SW logo at the top with stripes going off to the back. There will be a OTC-style background picture for each figure, and the rest of the card is black. The principle behind the bubbles is the same of ROTS, where it wraps to the back (surely with lots of horrible tape application), but it's more trapezoidal in design. There is also an insert with the character's name and a picture, similar to the ROTS figures.

How they can go from the flashy ROTS packaging to this is baffling. I don't like this at all.

I like it, it's not bad. Would rather the red go away. I do hope that Hasbros card backs look like the one posted above. I just really like the whole OT Black and silver thing. OCT still look better.

Man...I'm sick of seeing Vader and Mustafar. But that's not what the figure packaging will look like. I'm pretty sure those will be the OTC-style Saga collection packages. But the site showed the boxes of the most obscure products, like mousepads and bedsheets. I think this might be everything excluding Hasbro.

Yeah, I was going to say that there is already a carded pic of the stormtrooper somewhere. Nice job digging that up fellas.

Oh, and yes I'm happy with what the Stormtrooper looks like packaged and NO, I wouldn't want them on cheap ROTS knock-off cards like they'd be if they looked like the bedding and stuff.

The design doesn't really move me one way or the other. It's not like it will affect what I'll be buying.

I find this design scheme and the new Hasbro packing to be very boring and bland. We are now entering the darktimes until the franchise revs up again with the tv series.

Use something that as boring as watching grass grow that sure does have appeal.

Well, I don't care for the new style packaging. RS is saying that the new figures will fit the Star Case for ROTS figures (but not the Target ROTS cases). I will have to wait and see it with my own eyes...up close.

I wish they had used the early '05 style packaging, basically OTC with movie specific inserts.

I also don't care for the mini holo figures and will not be collecting them. Does anyone know if each basic figure will come with a specific holo figure or will they be randomly packed good guys with good guys and bad guys with bad guys?

I can see it now...variation Darth Maul packed with holo Darth Maul....extremely rare as most variations include Darth Vader holo or Darth Sidious holo mini figures. LOL variation hunters would go nuts!

The holo figures will be packed randomly, but the good guys will comes with good and the bad with the bad.

The holo figure are not a bonus in my book, they will be a cost that I should have to pay for.

As for the packaging, don't you like it better than the ROTS? I mean I can say I hate the ROTS card, but this new SAGA blows it out of the water.

The picture on RS shows the new SAGA card not fitting in Hasbros case. That's proof it doesn't fit.

Personally, I love the look for the packaging - a combo of the Saga look with the ROTS style cardback look -

Yes, I like it better than the ROTS packaging, but that isn't saying much considering that I hate the ROTS packaging more than any other packaging in the history of SW figures! Hasbro managed to take my favorite (OTC) packaging and my least favorite (ROTS) packaging and come up with something new...that I hate. The problem is that they still have those hidiously wide bottoms that extend all the way to the edge of the card then wrap around the card back with yet more lame tape to hold it all together.

Ummm, yes that's what I said. They will not fit in the hasbro (i.e. Target) protective cases. However they do fit in the ROTS Star Cases. Here are links to the pics:

I was commenting on what you said about you seeing them with your own yes. I guess you meant the whole card in general , not the case issue. Hey, if was early.
