The Emperor is coming here?!

That is correct, Commander, and he is most displeased with your apparent lack of progress.

I threw together a small LEGO diorama (http://tinypic.com/dwrwps.jpg) of the Emperor's Arrival (http://tinypic.com/dws10k.jpg) to show off my Imperial Forces. The diorama is 120 studs long and 40 studs deep. The rear wall is 25 bricks high.

I originally intended to put together a floor made of plates and just add the Shuttle and mini-figs, but then I got ambitious and it grew into a real diorama. I decided to put in a rear wall (http://tinypic.com/dws5tu.jpg) - nothing fancy - constructed from basic bricks I had in some tubs. Then I thought I'd go ahead and create half of the docking bay portal (http://tinypic.com/dws41e.jpg) on one end, to frame the parked Shuttle.

As I was building the rear wall, I thought it needed something to break the monotony (http://tinypic.com/dws74x.jpg), so I added a catwalk (http://tinypic.com/dws7md.jpg) to hang from the second level. I put several doors along the catwalk with droids and people (http://tinypic.com/dws9ic.jpg) going in and out. The wall is a just a facade though, there are only small plates that extend beyond each door in the back.

For fun, I added a "red carpet (http://tinypic.com/dws6ki.jpg)" of red plates so Vader, the Emperor, and his entourage could review the troops.

But wait, what's that commotion (http://tinypic.com/dwsa2r.jpg) in the front row of Stormtroopers? Could it be our heroes (http://tinypic.com/dwsy94.jpg) in disguise? Yes! It's Han and Luke!

Impressive...most impressive. I like the stormtroopers trying to figure out WTH is going on in front of them.

BTW, why are Dumbledore and McGonagall walking behind the Emperor? ;)

Very cool Ji'dai. I'm most impressed by the the shear number of Stormtroopers. But it looks like the Empire must be pretty desperate for man power if they were willing to hire Timmy from the Time Cruisers.

Im assuming the wizard figs are supposed to be Imperial representatives? Most uberly cool! Yep, the figs with the wizard's hats are supposed to be Imperial Dignitaries. One had a green Jar Jar body with Vader head and the other a blue Padme body with Emperor head. After I thought about it, I guess I could've used a maiden's hat (http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/x107), though I only have a red one.

I bought (http://forums.sirstevesguide.com/showpost.php?p=367767&postcount=7) a bunch of 7201 Final Duel II (http://guide.lugnet.com/set/7201) when the local KB Toys closed so that's how I got so many Stormtroopers and Officers. You have to be a major LEGO fan to recognize Timmy, symbol of the juniorization years. I thought I'd throw him in and have him sweeping the Death Star's floors :D

Very cool set-up! I wish I had enough pieces to do stuff like that, it looks like a lot of fun. Somehow, you gotta figure out a way to hang the TIE Bomber from the "ceiling" area though. :D

That would look cool. I'd definitely have to put in a ceiling in order to suspend a TIE Bomber from it. The rear wall would have to be taller, and I'd have build a side wall plus shore up the docking bay portal to support the ceiling.

Though if I put that much work into it I'd probably do the bay entirely in gray with white-brick accents. Though even if I cannibalized my set collection I'm not sure I'd have enough gray bricks. Right now I have a little over 600 sets and around 120-125,000 pieces.

Did you guys miss the easter egg I hid in the wall behind the catwalk?

That was an easter egg? I thought everyone had a frozen Han Solo in their living room...or is it just me? :D

So how many FD2s did you buy? From the looks of it I'd say about 150.

That was an easter egg? I thought everyone had a frozen Han Solo in their living room...or is it just me? :D Oh, that's not Han Solo. That there is Offah Immyjo, former Galactic Teamsters president and union rep for Geonosian Local 1138. Some say he was connected with assorted criminal syndicates - the Hutts, Black Sun - plus involved in graft, kickbacks, trafficking Spice, and smuggling human horn to Rodia & Trandosha, where it's considered an aphrodisiac... you know, really sick stuff. He's been missing for some time and is presumed dead. But now you know ;)
So how many FD2s did you buy? From the looks of it I'd say about 150. I bought 102 of 'em, but I have 108 Stormtroopers total. The floor of the diorama is made of up of 100 dark gray plates from those sets.

I was thinking you could fudge hanging the TIE Bomber by making a gantry-type thing that held the TIE and did nothing else rather than building a whole ceiling. Just an arm that spanned the diorama with a leg holding it up on the "open" end.

I didn't actually notice Han in the wall until you mentioned the egg, so I looked at your pics and spotted him, then felt dumb when the next post under yours said what it was. :p

It wouldn't be too hard to rig a similar support stand for the Bomber.

Check out this Death Star Hanger (http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=134945) from this guy called darthtangent. It really puts my diorama to shame! He said over on the fbtb forums that he's got several thousand dollars invested into it already. Mine probably cost $100-150 with the figures, shuttle, and bricks from buckets. His Emperor's Arrival scene is a work of art though.

Dang, those walls looked so good at first glance I thought they were printed cardboard. That's a crazy amount of detail.

What I was thinking was taking the TIE Gantry and building it to the current height of your diorama, then build a thin span between the far wall and the gantry and hang the TIE Bomber from the middle of that span.
