The 411: The Battle Of Geonosis
Posted by Dave (dave@rebelscum.com) on October 28, 2005 at 09:16 PM CST:
The third wave in Hasbro’s new Star Wars line, The Saga Collection takes collectors back to the huge battle that made up the third act of Attack Of The Clones. As an added treat, Hasbro has thrown in a figure based on a popular video game; the first of many Expanded Universe characters to pepper the line. Here’s a look at who and what we'll get:

Battle Of Geonosis

http://www.collectinghq.com/tn/0006254.jpg (http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=http://www.collectinghq.com/im/0006254.jpg)

Sora Bulq

This dude managed to get through Attack Of The Clones with all his limbs, but you can bet he’d be kicking himself for saving that no good Anakin Skywalker… If Anakin didn’t hand him his assets off screen in Revenge Of The Sith (or so you can assume). This figure will be the first new Weequay sculpt since 1998. Sure he’s another dead guy, but that’s usually what has to happen to a Weequay before anyone will immortalize him in plastic. looking on the bright side, at least this Weequay got a name.

http://www.collectinghq.com/tn/0006255.jpg (http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=http://www.collectinghq.com/im/0006255.jpg)

Sun Fac

Who? Oh yeah, that guy in AOTC that hung out with the badguys and kinda kept quiet. Well, the new figures don’t come with Commtech chips, so this newly sculpted figure will be able to do everything the real Sun Fac did. That said, there has been some talk about the Commtechs coming back. More on this in early April…

http://www.collectinghq.com/tn/0006261.jpg (http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=http://www.collectinghq.com/im/0006261.jpg)

Commander Scorch

Ah, those lil’ gamer kids are going to crap themselves, right? You betcha! Not only is this a figure based on a Clone, it’s a brand new sculpt based a Clone in the Republic Commando game. No brainer. Big winner… If you prefer new sculpts over crappy repacks that is. Speaking of repacks…

http://www.collectinghq.com/tn/0006259.jpg (http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=http://www.collectinghq.com/im/0006259.jpg)

Jango Fett

Well R2-D2 tells us the odds of this being the Super Articulated definitive Jango Fett we’re all hoping for is 4, 815, 162, 342 to 1… but he has been known to make mistakes… From time to time. Let’s hope he does since the only Geonosis Jango Fett they made sucked most heinously and none of us want to see it on any card ever again. Hear that Hasbro? Nah, probably not. They don’t listen to their customers.

http://www.collectinghq.com/tn/0006260.jpg (http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=http://www.collectinghq.com/im/0006260.jpg)

Yoda

ARGHHH!!!! A repack? Can’t we get a good Yoda first? Fans holding their breath for a decent AOTC Yoda better take a deep one, ‘coz we’re still in repack land.

http://www.collectinghq.com/tn/0006257.jpg (http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=http://www.collectinghq.com/im/0006257.jpg)

C-3PO

Remember that cool scene in AOTC when C-3PO got his head swapped with a Battle Droid? Wasn’t that zany fun? Thanks to this repaint, Hasbro will insure that we’ll never forget.

http://www.collectinghq.com/tn/0006258.jpg (http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=http://www.collectinghq.com/im/0006258.jpg)

Poggle The Lesser

He’s got one of the coolest names in all of the prequels. He’s also one of the coolest looking aliens to come out of the CGI world of AOTC. Thankfully, Hasbro also did a great job on the sculpt the first time around, because this bad boy is nothing more than a repack.

This is def. gonna be my LEAST favorite wave in the Saga Collection. Wasnt there another clone tho in this wave?

Meh, the new figures will be cool. I was hoping for a better repaint of AOTC C-3PO, since all of them really suck or are too short. Too bad it's the battle droid head one. I'm glad Jango and Yoda are repacks, since I don't know how many more of them I can take (unless of course they are SA).

I for one LOVE this wave. Why? Because it'll save me $30:p :p I am pretty pumped up about Commander Scorch:lipsrseal

Same goes with the rest of the waves...
There are a lot that I want from them, but many I don't. Here are the figures I plan to buy from them:

The Phantom Menace:
Gungan Rep Been (maybe)
Naboo Soldier (if new)
Podracer pilots 2pk (maybe)

Revenge of the Sith:
Coruscant Fire Fighter Pilot
Commander Cody: Clone Commander
Clone Trooper (if he catches my fancy:thumbsup: )

A New Hope 1:
R5-D4: Slacker (about frickin' time)
Hem Dazon: Cantina Denizen
Garindan The Kubaz (if new)

A New Hope 2:
Han Solo Yavin (if new)
Luke Skywalker Yavin (if new)
Rebel Sentry
X-Wing Pilot
Death Star Trooper

The Empire Strikes Back:
General Veers
Major Bren Derlin
AT-AT Driver
Gonk Droid: Rebel Hangar

Return Of The Jedi 1
Leia Boushh
Han Solo: Jabba’s Prisoner
Bib Fortuna

Return Of The Jedi 2
Chief Chirpa
Moff Jerjerrod
Death Star Gunner
C-3PO: Ewok Deity (he better have articulated knees)
Luke Skywalker: Endor Confrontation (my God it better be new)
Darth Vader: Endor Confrontation (if new)

I'm actually looking forward to Sun Fac - I know he's just another Geonosian but I like the geonosis war room, nice and moody - so any figures from it are fine by me.

EE updates the Geonosis wave with a new Orange Utapaun Clone Trooper and Yoda now has a cloak.

With the addition of the Clone the wave has stepped up a notch.

Sure is strange that a EP3 clone is in a EP2 wave. I wonder who screwed this one up?

OKAY...Why is there ONE orange clone and ONE Scorch in this case, and 2, FREAKIN 2 CRAPPY REPACK SHELFWARMING C3POs with Battle Droid body in this assortment? WTF!!???:frus: :frus:

I don't give a crap which wave that clone is in, but I must have as many as I can get!!!

Five or six of them standing with Cody will be totally killer.

And, it may be that he's part of the Coruscant wave, but they're shipping him with the Geonosis figures as well . . . I mean, they've done that in the past.

I'll now be passing on that Yoda since it's the same figure as the ROTS one. Hopefully it'll come with something else, then I may get it.

Anyway, good that this clone is getting a release along with Commander Cody. Don't care what the card for that Yoda is like though, I'm steering clear.

Yea Im pretty ticked as well about the 1x case for the troopers. :(

jedi master sal
11-11-2005, 11:47 AM
It's idiotic that this particular trooper is only one per case.

Let's explore why, shall we?

1) It's a clone and we all know (Hasbro included) that clones sell.
2) It's a MOVIE ACCURATE clone
3) Other than Cody, that we know of, there will be no other clone figures in the market at the time (that's new).
4) It's an Army builder!

Those reasons, in and of themselves SCREAM for this figure to be released in MASSES!

What I dread is that scalpers are going to pounce on this figure and buy up every one they can find. That and I unfortunately know that more and more collectors are starting to buy up the HTF figs to sell so that they can pay for their current collecting habits. (Thereby making them scalper scum as well).

I'll be competely honest that I'm an Army builder (most of you already know this). I want a LOT of this figure. There's No way I'll be able to attain that goal with it just being one per case.

How many do I want, do you ask?
At least 50, but closer to 75. My plans for these are a huge diorama. 8'wideX4'deepX5to6'high It will be of the Utapau sinkhole. It will depict all of the scenes there. As we know there are many scenes of MANY clones fighting there that would require an amount as I desire. There will be a poster on the outside of the diorama that explains the action and how to "read" the diorama, as it will start from one side move up and down going toward teh other side of the diorama.

It's not greed or hoarding. I fully plan to use all of those figures. Hopefully to be shown at a future "Celebration." I hope I get some help here from all of you my fellow brothers-and sisters in collecting, to reach that goal. Credit would be given on the diorama (on the poster) to anyone who would help, be that selling me these clones for instance.

Okay, so I've gone on a bit long here, but man I'm REALLY disappointed at the alledged case distribution of this figure and it's probably a year away from hitting stores. (PLENTY OF TIME TO FIX THAT HASBRO!).

Our only hope for getting this figure in large quantity are the amazon or KB websites (ordering a bunch of them at once). Hasblow really dropped the ball this time. Of course the other good figures in the wave (Sora Bulq and Scorch) are only 1 per case as well. Geez.

jedi master sal

Have you done such a large display for any other scene in the movie? Could you post pictures?

I have smaller ones, but they are packed away as I ran out of room a long time ago in my small apartment.

Besides the Utapau one, I have the completed plans for what I think will be the benchmark diorama for me and that is the Battle of Geonosis. That's going to 2ft wider, but only 4 ft tall. But the thing that's going to make this diorama very cool is that it will include over 800 figures (almost 500 of which are clones) and roughly 20 ships and vehicles.

Trust me when that one is completed pictures will definitely be up on the net, along with the Utapau one.

This is why I army build. I've always wanted to have huge displays of these scenes and I feel you need to have a number of figures that accurately reflects those scenes. It's cool seeing the smaller dioramas of say 20 clones vs 20 battle droids, but in the movie we saw hundreds if not thousands against each other. (Mind you if I could afford it and had the room for it, I'd love to have thousands. Rick McCallum said once there's nothing like 4000 battle droids fighting 4000 Gungans. Now that's a diorama I'd love to have...heh heh)

Don't hold your breath my friend. I'm still suck in this small apartment for awhile. And my house deal is no longer on the horizon (long story).

So for now, I have to be content with designing the dioramas in the computer, creating a parts list and figuring out how to build it and approx how much it will cost.

Like I said previously, once they get done pics will be up. It's just going to be later rather than sooner.

Scorch is a Republic Commando, from the game of the same name. It's actually pretty fun. Supposedly the Republic Commandos are yet another special kind of troopers, since they already didn't have enough.

I'll still stick with Sora Bulq, Sun Fac, and Scorch, unless the three others they didn't show the cardback for have new accessories or something.

Also, notice the little "Expanded Universe" thing in Scorch's card's upper left corner. Looks like there's more of a chance for EU figures in this line.

I saved these pics on my computer so I could check them out whenever I want to. I am stoked about the Utapau Trooper appearing to be on the #41 sculpt. And I posted in the other thread that I thought the chest paint wasn't fixed, but I zoomed in on the pic and now I think it MIGHT be corrected.

Commander Scorch looks cool as well. It is just to bad they didn't do a better job of making this look like a live-action version of him the way they did the characters from the Clone Wars cartoons. He still looks like a animated version to me. It does look like he has very good articulation, though.

I thought the same as you. At first, it didn't look corrected (which would be funny b/c the correct deco is nice and big on the card photo!!! :) ), but on closer inspection it looks as though there's the slightest of points on it.

I'm disappointed in Scorch's appearance as well. It looks cool and all, but it looks like it was transported right out of the computer game. Even the way it's sculpted makes it look like it's made out of polygons. Still, I suppose it will appeal to a wide array of collectors in much the same way as the Clone Wars animated figures did.

Gawd that C-3PO is horrid. It's the same one that came with the Deluxe set in teh Saga line. I'm glad I waited to get these on clearance from KBs. I ended up picking up about 40 sets for $4 each. I kept the battle doird and the factory pieces and gave away all of the C-3PO's excpet for one.

The Jango is the same one from teh Saga line as well. I'll be passing on those two for sure.

Poggle looks to be the same, and if he is, no purchase from me then.

I really like the packaging, but I'm not getting figures for the packaging anymore. To expensive just for some cardboard, when I already ahev the exact smae figure. And I didn't buy any because he wanted 25.00 for scorch, 20.00 for the Clone Trooper, and 15 for everything else.

I saw that C-3PO is being carded with a head variation (his own head on him and the BD head on the blister and vice versa).

Could you tell how many points of articulation Sun Fac and Scorch had?

Yeah, unfortunately I could. If you are big into articulation as I am...go ahead and be disappointed now. In this wave (I don't count the Utapau Clone as he is supposed to be part of the Coruscant wave) Sora Bulq looked to be the best-articulated.

I had to look pretty fast as the vendor wanted to get them inventoried and out for sale, but I was very disappointed in Scorch's articulation even after seeing very good shots of how limited it was.

That's disappointing.

I'll still buy 5 of him. I just won't open them all up.

What is it with Habro screwing up the articulation with clones?

These are the types of figures that demand to be SA. They see the most action, next to Jedi and hasbro did a decnt job of articulation with Jedi in the ROTS line.
