Wonder if they're going to make a figure of ol' Darth Vader's stepdad. I kinda hope not.

No wonder we never see Shmi and Cliegg together...the attraction between them would be nonexistant.

They probably will at some point :)

Shmi probably married him for his money. Either that or he's an animal in bed.

I hope they make a figure of him. I want as many Tatooine moisture farmer figures as I can get. What is with you people and the cynicism? Can't two people be together out of a mutual understanding anymore? Doesn't kindness and love come into the equation anymore? Shmi was probably bought from Watto by Cliegg. For an older Woman Shmi is very attractive, she has character and hidden depths. She exudes an air of compassion. No Wonder Cliegg took a shine to her. By the way that Cliegg has his hand on Owen's arm it's clear that Cliegg is a kind, compassionate and warm Guy himself. What is wrong with two middle aged people finding such traits attractive in each other? Why must everything revolve around sex? Life has more to ofer than the brief high of an occasional feel and fumble under the covers so to speak. I'm sure that the relationship between Shmi and Cliegg is really strong and based on a meeting of minds more than physical attraction. I'm sure there's some of that too but I can't really see it being the all consuming factor. Neither do I see Shmi being a money grabbing witch. If that were the case she would have found some way to buy herself free of slavedom years ago before Anakin was born and found her way into a better class of society far away from the poverty of tatooine.
This is a great picture BTW. Finally some kind of strong family unit instead of the stark coldness of a bunch of loners or celibate monks Jedi.

I agree Jargo.... with the naberrie(amidala?) family as well, it is interesting to see some normal relationships featured in AOTC. In the OT it was mostly incest, broken homes, and the whole han/chewie thing.

Han/Chewie? Are you hinting at what I think you're hinting at?
Personally I never saw it that way. I think it's a sign of how screwed up our culture has become when two guys can't have a close friendship without everyone thinking there is something kinky going on.
I like that interpretation barada :)
Alot of their banter is rather "macho", but there are some more intimate scenes (like Han's freezing and then their meeting in Jabba's dungeon) that show how much those friends love each other.

IMO, The Han/Chewie "relationship" was a simple partnership that also had a bit of dog/master to it. The devoted dog, Chewie, who was also smart enough to be on the level with Han and have an actual partnership in crime as well.
I'm with Jargo !
I thought she was rather attractive (insert requisite "for an older woman" modifier here :) ) during the cast reading footage on the TPM DVD.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply THAT! Chewies post is more along the lines of what I meant. What does chewie(the movie version) need with money or anything? I think han is just using him, like the A team used mr.T (Iknow this is off topic, but I don't want to start a new thread called"han and chewie-what the #$!@ is that all about?") Honestly, it was just an observation, and says nothing about my stance on interpersonal relationships. I've got lots of friends, and none of em(male or female) are allowed to show up at my house wearing only a bandolier!!!!

*shudders at the thought of friends showing up wearing only a bandolier...*
Well Chewie was based on Lucas' dog wasn't he. Least, that's what Lucas used to say......
I don't think han would really be chasin' tail of the Wookiee variety anyway considerin' what a ladies man he is. Kinda like a 'one in every (space)port' guy. But we won't get to see that unless lucas ever uses some of the original edit of the Cantina scenes and we get to see han smoochin' with that Jenny chick. :)
Would've been cool to see him hit on Torryn Farr in ESB, make leia a little jealous and show what they meant to each other a little more. I always found it curious that their relationship was so strong considering they really only just met and with the rebellion taking so much of the Princess's time she can't have had much dealings with han between ANH and ESB. I thought the whole lead up to that smooch in the Falcon needed more attention. but that's just me I guess.

Just because Han is a scoundrel, a cheat and a smuggler doesn't mean he's incapable of having friends. Or doesn't see the value in having someone to talk to on those long boring space voyages. And a friend who isn't interested in a share of the profits is a valuable friend indeed for a con-man.

Sorry I've found my way to this thread so late. I just wanted to tell Jargo that I agree with him. What is wrong with two regular people falling in love with each other? It happens everyday!! I, too, happen to think that Shmi was rather attractive for a middle aged woman. She was strong, compassionate and was someone to be admired. Perhaps she sees some of the same qualities in Cliegg Lars. Love isn't about "two hotties going at it". How about looking at your relationships for reference... and don't delude yourself. If you really were THAT good-looking you'd have your face or arse on a fly poster, advert or billboard somewhere in the world, no?
:o :D

Two hotties going at it lol!! I do totally agree with you and Jargo, Partnr. I always liked how familiar owen and beru's relationship seemed. They were made out to be the kind of people you'd see anywhere, and characters like that helped to make the movie strike the chord that it did in so many people, IMO. P.S. I am that good looking
