View Full Version : Possibility of fraud even worse than first thought?

I recently came across the Carkoon wave and opened one of'em in which revealed how the holo figure is packaged. I know the biggest concern over these has been the fear that people will take them out in the store, which would unfortunately be even easier to do than I thought it would.

You can easily open the card on that side and take it out then put it back together with very few indications that it was opened. Though, I was thinking about an even more extreme fraud that could happen and spark alot of confusion within the collector community.

If someone were to get a Saga2 figure to get just the holo figure and had another Saga2 figure that they didn't want the holo from, they could easily switch out the hologram with the figures and return them to the store. The big issue about this, is that it could lead to findings of hero figures with villain holos and vice versa. This, just like switching out figures and returning them, could cause a ton of confusion down the road as collectors who find them may be lead to think it's a new variation or factory mistake.

I could easily see this happening with, let's say Barada with Vader compared to Han in Carbo with Queen Amidala. The result would end up being a Barada with Amidala holo resealed and restocked at the store.

Yeah and now the whole world knows it's easy to do it. I tell you man, these holos were a bad idea.

True, alot of jerks who probably thought about ripping them out in the first place probably know this technique now but potential victims can be avoided if they're aware of the exact same situation. It's alot easier to make people aware before a ton of people start peddling that sort of crap on ebay as rare variants.

The holo fig idea has actually grown on me, they don't look too bad in person but they definitely needed to plan this better. Not just cause of the theft possibilities, but also because it was annoying pulling each figure off the pegs one at a time to check the back of it. :p

Hasbro should had packaged the holo inside the bubble and just let it be a surprise.

Given the nature of the packaging, I think you are onto a real issue - the one hope is that all holos are so common that no one will bother as a result. If there are 'rare ones' (out of 13 Saga I have seen, I did not see a Han, Luke, Sidious or Maul), this may be an issue......

Time to start an 'Aisle Watch' program :bandit:

I love the packaging, but Hasbro could easily modify the tape or something for the back to make it much more difficult to swap out.

In which chain did you find these gems?

Yup, Wal-Mart. Out of 3 pegs full of the Carkoon wave the only holos that no one had were Queen Amidala, Boba Fett and the Stormtrooper.

Geez, as if we didn't have enough to worry about as it is with scalpers, now we have the switcheroo bandits too. :bandit: :whip:

To quote Lando "This deal keeps getting worse all the time!"

I have been able to gather most of the mini-holos. I was able to get my hands on the Carkoon and Hoth waves. I have gotten 8 of the planned 12.(Yes it is 12 not 13). The rest are extras. I'm missing Luke, Obi-Wan, Vader, and Dooku. What I think they should of done is made more then 12 and assign different holo's to specific characters instead of having them randomly packed.

The cut out hole to see the holo figure shouldn't have been on the back of the card but on the front - same position/side it's in now. It would have been easier to see.

I gotta say I really copped out with the Saga Collection, or at least the first 3 waves (Carkoon,Hoth,Geonosis) I pre-ordered a case of 12 of all 3 waves.

Pros and Cons of this:

Pros:
-Don't have to waste Gas driving from store to store
-Don't have to fight scalpers for certain figures
-Won't have to worry about employess damaging figures, mine will be case fresh (exa. Agen Kolar at any TRU store)
-Won't have that problem of certain hologram figures being stolen

Cons:
-I pay more
-No excitement of the hunt

My pro's outweight my con's so, yea. I just saw it as I needed some downtime from ROTS. Im supposed to recieve the figures right on time, just as if I was huntin them down.

I ordered the 3 waves too from EE. Since the Saga price increase at retail, I would say the only con is the excitement factor. The price of gas and time is just not worth it. I'd rather find them at retail, but you have to be at the right place at the right time or be so consistent it's ridiculous.

Well, that was fast for me....went to Walmart and decided to check the aisle - found one Bib without a holo - someone ripped the back out and took it....just like that.

I believe the bigger question to be, "How in the world did the genuises at Hasbro Inc. decide that this was a good idea?" You know? What the heck are these guys thinking?
Hey Ted. I have this idea of easily-stealable mini holographs figures. Each figure could have a different one. We seal them up cheaply so that they may be easily stolen.
Bob, that is the best idea I've heard in a while. SOLD!

Saw the Saga figs at my local TRU..two of the five or so there were missing the holo figs, so I have seen three now ripped out the back.

On the plus side, they had Han in Carb that had his eyes painted looking outward level to his face, whereas the first wave I saw had him looking directly up....made a huge difference to me.

Anyone wanna buy loose mini-holo figures??? I have TONS of them. :bandit:

<just kidding>

This reminds me of when I worked at TRU and the figures had the Film Frame Slides. Alot of the older figures that were repackaged with the slides kept getting the slides stolen.

Apparently the nearest WM that gets figures in on a frequent basis put out all of the new stuff right before Christmas.

I got there to find a Luke on Chopper and 2 of the diecast vehicles.

Saga stuff made it out also....according to the Manager there and they should be resetting the 2nd week of Jan which would indicate new figures by the 3rd week of Jan.

Dang, I just want to see a new figure.

Anyone else out here that doesn't give a merde about these mini holos and which ones they get with which figures?? I want my 3 and 3/4 action figure, not some stupid gimmick!

Yes I can give a rats @ss about them.

Doesn't sound like you like them then if it's just a rat and not something more substantial. lol ;)

I pity the foos who are going to buy 12 of each figure just to get all the combinations of these silly things. lol lol

If someone bought 12 of each I would pity them since theres only 6 holos to a side. :p

I would like ot amass a complete collection, but my main goal is the figures, not the holos. If I see a bunch of figures, I would go through them, but today, I saw Chewie and he was the only one there and I got him even though he had Han which I already have.

Looking at these figures it doesn't seem to me that it would be that easy to take these holos. You'd have to mangle the card quite a bit and have to spend some time trying to get them out and hope that a camera or employee wouldn't catch you. In the long run I think people will realize that it's just not worth it all for a cheap holo.

I just feel like someone needing to steal an inch high hologram figure has more problems than meets the eye.

I will take a couple of pics tomorrow...a Target near my work had someone crush the bubble around the holo fig......hopefully stupid kids and not and scapler type..

but for the first time ever I walked passed a newly opened case and was not interested in anything in the first wave.

These figures are warming the pegs around here already. I have been able to get two complete sets, each with all holos represented, and there are still pegs full of them at Target here. The most common peg warmers are Leia, Han, and Bib. And all of the holos are over represented. There are such a vast mix of holos and figures that nobody around here SHOULD need to swap them out. You can pretty readily find anything you want at this point. Now, that may change later, but I will be ordering mine from EE from now on anyway, so I won't have to worry about playing that game.
