It was just announced (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060124/ap_on_en_tv/tv_network) less than a few hours ago, UPN and WB are going off the air.

So now we'll have one network that sucks twice as hard to go to for all our sucky-network needs? :cheeky:

Laaaame! Which channel is it gonna be out here, 5 or 13? This is just a bad idea.

This sucks! They better not mess with my Smallville or Charmed.

If I were to watch those shows that is. I mean, it's not saying that I do...I'm just saying that it'd suck for those that decide to watch such programming. I don't personally. Meh!! on the WB.

They better not mess with my That 70's Show or King of the Hill. You dont want to know what will happen if they do:twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted:.

That would be quite difficult since UPN and the WB produce and air neither - the series are both in syndication which can air at independent affiliate stations of either, but Fox is who produces and airs both shows... That 70s Show ends its run this year while King of the Hill is out of production but still on "standby" in case Fox decides to return it next season.

Smallville won't be affected by the merger, it's one of the WB's anchor shows so it is staying put. As for Charmed, I have no idea.

What a crap name too, CW, sounds nothing like a TV network, sounds like a brand of sugar. Still, those entities (Viacom and Warner Bros) produced Comedy Central fairly well until Viacom finally bought it all the way up, so maybe it'll work.... right. Hey, maybe Los Angeles will finally have an independent regular channel again (all the main dial VHF stations are network affiliates except for 9 which is owned by CBS2 and even shares newsstaff... of course, Fox 11 and UPN 13 is the same way, so unless CW goes to 13 which it won't, I guess we won't have an indie).

Also, maybe as a precursor, 7th Heaven was announced as being cancelled some time ago. I thought that was one of WB's better shows (I seriously don't watch that one) but I guess it wasn't like Smallville or anything.

I think that had more to do with the age of the show and not having a lot more plot wise they could do with it without pulling a Simpsons than anything else.

If both of those networks had vanished two years ago, I probably wouldn't have noticed. I don't know if I've ever watched a WB show... and I can pretty much say the same for UPN.

Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Enterprise, and Deadly Games were on UPN, thats about all I ever watched on them. With the exception of cartoons like Batman Beyond, The Batman, Yu-Gi-Oh, Viewtiful Joe, etc., I don't think there is a WB show I've bothered to watch weekly.

Well here on UPN Chicago they broadcast King of the Hill and That 70's Show.

But that's syndication. Chances are the affiliate isn't going to completely vanish into nothingness. It will probably still be around, likely as an "independent" station (in quotes because they're all owned by one of a handful of companies) and carry much of the same syndicated programming as before. At least that's my guess.

'Bout time this merge happened. Here in Columbus we have a UPN station that airs both its and WB's shows.

I don't fear any of the shows I watch to be lost in this merge. Supernatural has done well enough. Veronica Mars will most likely keep going (I keep hearing it's good, never did check it out). Then there's Everybody Hates Chris, another show I've really wanted to watch but never have.

So, uh...just keep those three (and I suspect they will).

They're keeping the Gilmore Girls, so I can't imagine it's anything personal.

starwarsfan1, are they new-run or syndicated rerun episodes?

JBF, Veronica Mars is pretty good, not everybody's tastes but it doesn't insult the audience which is pretty rare in this day and age, and the characters don't just solve a mystery of the week, it's all ongoing storylines.

Supernatural is a WB show, I've never watched a whole ep but the few pieces I've seen look entertaining, just not my style. I suspect they're hard up enough for "fresh" programming to keep producing just about anything that isn't actively costing a fortune (7th Heaven was losing $16 mil a year despite being second in the WB's ratings behind Gilmore Girls, why it got canned).

Get this, apparently in 9 markets in the US, Fox stations were the UPN provider, this may be what was up with swfan1's shows, and as Fox Corp was left out of the CW merger, those stations will be losing a large chunk of their original programming.

Also, some UPN affiliates have taken the UPN logo off their screens (you know, the icon in the lower right corner) in protest of this deal, KCOP 13 here in LA is one of them.

well, it's a merger, so they'll add the two channel #'s together, and divide by two to get the average. your new CW channel is 9.
