...anyone else see them on Hasbro's Toyfair 2006 Sneak-Peak page?

I did :p

INteresting...

The ARC looks silly in vehicle mode, IMHO...

I wish Hasbro would make the ships in proportion and not just a likeness of them (i.e. the X-Wing, Darth's TIE- hec- ALL of them so far...)

Sort of like an Alternators line but for Star Wars.

Any thoughts?

The wings on the ARC-170/clonetrooper are attached upside-down, so they angle up insead of down and have the guns on the top instead of bottom. This is VERY common for Toy Fair, they're always in a rush to get displays together. I'm not going to judge the vehicle mode just yet, it could be a bad camera angle, that's happened before, I'll wait and see what Steve comes up with in photos.

Jango looks nice, but the Imp Shuttle vehicle mode looks really good (its top wing is attached backwards tho'! :D) but the bot mode looks iffy, I want to see more before deciding.

Wow-

Good eye! I didn't even notice those OBVIOUS flaws (the backward Shuttle wing, the upside-down ARC Guns)...doesn't Hasbro have anyone working for them that will NOTICE this stuff?

Weird.

Who is the Shuttle supposed to be in Robot Mode, anyway? The ARC is a Clone Pilot I see...

It's interesting that they have those toys there but they don't have the Sith "Infiltration" (hehe) or the Boba Fett Slave 1 shown-

And where ARE the Titaniums in these pics- am I missing them?

And WHY OH WHY ARE THEY MAKING ANOTHER R5-D4 in the 3 3/4 LINE? WHY??? That droid HAS to be THE BIGGEST Peg Warmer OF ALL TIME!

ARGH!

I'm done.

I got my Vader TF the other day and I have to admit- against all better judgement- I LIKE it :D I guess I'm hooked on the SW TF's :p

Those look cool. I dont know what the general consensus is on these guys, but i like them alot. Given how much can be done with the ships and bot modes i think they work out well. Its not perfect, but its not terrible either.

Warstar

...actually, I'm not joking about the R5-D4.

I just remember 1997 is all. I have 8 variations of the launching R5-D4 alone...and the rest sat on the pegs for nigh a year in my state.

Ugh.

We got Hasbro Toy Fair pics *very* early after they set up, it's a rush-rush thing for them and they have a LOT to cover, plus I don't think the people working the booth know exactly what's what. They make mistakes, stuff gets mailed in late so it doesn't show on the first day, and it's not just them, LEGO and Mattel go through this every year.

Shuttle is Palpatine, unfortunately. Good looking transformer marred by a weird character choice. I'll get it for the vehicle and bot modes, not the character it represents.

If we were discussing this in the thread about the SSG coverage of these things, I think I may have said some of this already.

Titaniums are in the Titaniums section, not SWTFs, but TF Titaniums are on our affiliate site's, BWTF.com, footage: http://69.93.119.2/photos3/showgallery.php?cat=3012

BTW, as for R5-D4, I don't respect any collector who went after all those silly card and activation tab variations. ;) You know why they're redoing R5-D4? BECAUSE THE FIRST ONE WAS SUCH A PIECE OF CRAP!!! DUUUUUHHH! :stupid: :p

So, you don't respect me and hundreds of others who went after them because they were obsessive completists?

Bad show, old chap- bad show. :( I get the feeling you're none too found of me :(

Ah well.

Honestly, all peg-warming aside, the original POTF2 R5-D4 is a good case study in Hasbro's figure evolution- especially since the card variants and missle tab variants were all deliberate with nothing being "accidental." Personally, I got probably half of the variants of that figure that I did find simply because I was buying one to open and noticed that the closed one I had was distinctly different...so I kept on buying them until I finally found 2 that were alike. By then, the figure was on a non-holo Green Card and on close-out, and it remained that way for EONS.

Granted, the original Vintage R5-D4 was better than the missle firing one, but, eh I dunno...I suspect this new one will linger a lot.

Funny thing is, with all the R2 units that Hasbro is FINALLY making, doesn't it feel a bit like "too little, too late?" It does to me ;)

Bad show, old chap- bad show. :( I get the feeling you're none too found of me :(Oh don't be such a wag WS, that sentence of mine ended on a ;) face. Though come to think of it, there were 13 separate variations at least of a *bad* figure, anybody who bought them all doesn't deserve the right to complain about a new version 10 years later in my book. CRY ME A FREAKIN' RIVER! :D

Seriouly though, I don't think those variations were on purpose, they couldn't get their stuff together back then, I can't believe the incompetence that ran that line could make such a masterstroke of genius, they're the same goobers who buried stores in Malakili figures!!! Where was the variation to move that loser?

Heh- but being a wag and a NAG is what I do best :D

Good point on the Rancor Keeper...

Hmm. Variations.

*Tries to think of other figures that moved off the pegs simply because of package variants*

...The 1995 Obi-Wan Kenobi- the first package variant I remember (with the picture changing on the back of the card)...that started it...

...The 1996-97 Deluxe figures (.00 Photon, .01 Proton Deluxe Fett comes to mind)

...The 1997 Greedo, Jawas, R5-D4, Death Star Gunner, Sandtrooper- hec- that whole wave that went from Orange Card to Green Card back then- I own at least 3 of each of those figures due to those variations...

...The 1997,98 and 99 Cinema Scene 3-pack .00 and .01 variants...

-HEC ANYTHING in the "Star Wars Action Figure Archive" Book that Steve Sansweet edited back in late 1997- the package variants are all tracked there relatively decently in an appendix in the back- even if what caused the package variation is not described on most of the entires.

...The 1999 Clearance Rush of the Collection 1 Marie/Marae Freeze Frame figures...(I'm still bitter that I paid an average of $18 a piece for those on Ebay and then found them 6 months later 3 for $9.99...)

...The 1999 .0000 .0001 .0100 .0200 Episode 1 figure variations (Blech!)...

...the last 2000 Episode 1 wave of nothing but Darth Maul (Jedi Duel) figures- I own 8 variants of that dang figure thanks to that wave...

...The 2002 opening AOTC line with and without scene backgrounds (though the only 3 or 4 AOTC figures I own I opened)

...Eh.

*Cries JT a river :D* I feel I earned the right to complain- I've certainly spent enough money to ;)

I suppose I'll judge the new R5-D4 when I see him :p

Back to the topic at hand, I see in the other thread these new TF's have hit stores already- well, the Infiltrator, Boba Fett and Anakin have- I'm anxious to see them.

JediTricks
02-17-2006, 03:38 PM
Hey, just because you were foolish enough to spend money on those silly things doesn't mean it's Hasbro's fault. Plus, half of those at least weren't "intentional variants" but screw-ups that had to be fixed.

Warstar
02-17-2006, 06:14 PM
True true...but most of the variants were cosmetic change-ups.

Ah well.

I am tempted to order the TF Grievous and Obi-Wan from KBToys.com but their shipping is killer...

JediTricks
02-18-2006, 06:32 PM
Why would you order them when they're still on shelves? (the critic in me would also ask why you'd order Grievous when he looks so poor ;)).

Warstar
02-18-2006, 11:55 PM
They may be on the shelves there- but not here...

...and 2 words: Credit Account :D

Oh yeah- EE updated their pics-

Han and Chewy don't look quite as bad as I thought, but $45.99??? Thing better be HUGE!

http://www.entertainmentearth.com/hitlist.asp?searchfield=star+wars+transformers

I notice "Lights and Sound" there, too...INteresting...

JediTricks

Yeah, I saw that $45 pricetag, I fear that means it'll be $35 to $40 MSRP which is INSANITY. My guess is they will be the same size as the other SWTF robots, just with a little extra kibble full of ugly electronic crap to bump up the pricetag.

And that photo of the alt mode separated is most definitely a liar, each figure has one part of the gunner station core so there's no way it could transform into that.

Entertainment Earth sent me a catalog yesterday with better pics of the new ships (ARC-170, Shuttle, etc.) and I have to say- I REALLY like them now- The Emperor looks kinda' like Megatron :D SWEET!

I'm glad someone knows, since it's all but impossible to figure out otherwise.

What they should have done is made Palpie the ROTS Shuttle with the short sail on top.

JediTricks
03-03-2006, 04:47 PM
That would have worked better, but I think they're going for iconic ships.

BountyHunterScum
03-11-2006, 09:03 AM
I guess so. For Palpie the Death Star II mighta worked better since that was the end all be all of Death Stars. Recharges in minutes, can target anything.

so the emperor is the shuttle ? Hmm I would have rather have seen the Emperor as the Death Star, ala Unicron.

I waiting for GI Joe Transformers. You know it's going to happen. They already done it in comics, and it's pretty popular. Hasbro has the rights to both. Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Scarlet, Cobra Commander are the ones I really want.

Just wondering why Hasbro is not including mini-figure pilots with some of the regular Transformers line. In all the cartoons ,but Beast Wars there were humans with them.

JediTricks
03-29-2006, 07:52 PM
They released a human figure in the Energon line, Kicker, he came with an upsided minicon which he rode on the show, it was a lame set; also, Transmetal II Megatron in the Beast Wars line was supposed to have a little "soul pilot", he still has the cockpit, but the idea got canned late in the preproduction. I think the reason they don't come with minifigs anymore (the Japanese line one of 'em came from had 'em) is due to swallowing issues, scale issues, a general lack of interest, stuff like that.

Just a bump for this thread... but we spotted the Arc 170, Imp. Shuttle and Jango's Slave 1 at Target this afternoon. As much as this line isn't my thing, I thought that the Imperial Shuttle looked pretty cool. My son really wanted Jango's Slave 1... he was pretty thrilled by it.

JediTricks

How does it look compared to the Boba one? That one looks really sharp because the colors all match up, I was wondering if Jango's looks good even though the colors obviously don't match as well.

plasticfetish
05-26-2006, 02:26 AM
Didn't get a great look at it, because this 8 year old was holding on to it, but it looked pretty good. He didn't seem to care about the colors matching anyway. ;)

I snagged these the other day and threw them on layaway.

I'm kinda' sad the line is ending, but I knew its days were numbered from the beginning :(

Jango's Slave 1 looked good, IMHO. I'll know when I get them out of hoc (by the end of July :))

I've read several more reports of the ARC-170 not being there, but it *is* in the case assortments shipping now (wave 3, wave 3 rev 1) and evenly packed (1 per case like the other 3). My guess is it's more popular and there aren't many cases out yet. The future problem is that while 1 future wave 3 assortment has the ARC-170 without Palps and and Jango, there's 1 case without any of the new guys and 1 or 2 very mixed cases without the ARC-170.

Even if I thought I'd never buy any of the TF ships or vehicles after my disappointment with Grievous Bike, a good friend of mine got me a present: the ARC-170. And I have to agree that it is really cool! I glued the wing cannons and I like the fact that you hardly notice it is a Transformer.

I saw 3 unopened cases on a pallet at my local Wal-Mart last night of SW Transformers Wave 3 Rev 1- and the pegs were FULL with the new TF's on them already (ARC-170, Shuttle and Jango...sadly, the Titanium pegs were completely empty).

Is this Hasbro's final SW TF push or what? 'Cause it'll months for my local Wal-Mart to move that many SW TF's :p
