View Full Version : Vintage series 4
05-23-2006, 12:40 AM
Anyone heard rumors about the next additons to the vintage series might be? I am pulling for a bounty hunters series... or a POTF series with COINs would be cool too.
05-23-2006, 01:30 AM
Ive seen a list of four figures floating around somewhere, but i forget who all was on it. Im not counting them though until i see them in plastic.
05-23-2006, 02:00 AM
I did hear (THIS IS A RUMOR) that one of them would be a Snowtrooper. I don't remember the others. I only remembered this one because a SA/SG Snowtrooper has been getting very close to the top of my wishlist.
(KAK - thanks for the props in your signature)
Edit: My buddy tells me Vader, Jawa, Bespin Luke, Endor Leia, and the Snowtrooper.
05-23-2006, 03:50 AM
An SA Jawa would be kind of lame, almost like Yoda. A bespin Luke and snowtrooper sound cool, as well as Endor LEia. Vader has been done and will nore than likely be a rehash. They will probably stick him on an ROTJ card instead of ESB.
05-23-2006, 05:00 AM
I'd read a list including all of those figures. The snowtrooper would be cool along with the Luke. I agree about the lameness of the Jawa.
05-23-2006, 09:43 AM
The rumor that was post on rebelscum (originally reported on some other site) had the jawa with electronic glowing eyes. This would make it the definative jawa to me. I definately hope they continue the line.
05-23-2006, 11:55 AM
Id like to see this line put out all of the original lines figures, thats around 90 figures, correct?
Darth Cruel, no need to thank me for being in the sig, you were the first person that was willing to trade with me on the internet so im grateful for that.
05-23-2006, 12:12 PM
I like Darth Vader...but............ANOTHER ONE!? I know it is just a rumor right now, but if this is true, I wonder if they are just going to repack the ROTS vader again.
I would be willing to buy a few snowtroopers, the leia, the jawas, and maybe bespin luke.
I wonder how long they will continue to put out the votc figures? This is going to get expensive.
05-23-2006, 12:20 PM
I don't need tons of them, but the core characters in all of their outfits would be great:
Bespin Luke, Leia and Han
Hoth Luke, Leia and Han
ROTJ Luke with Jedi Robe and Endor accessories
and I'd also like to see a Snowtrooper.
05-23-2006, 01:32 PM
They will probably stick him on an ROTJ card instead of ESB.
I hope it's a Star Wars card they put him on. Him, Chewie, the Stormtrooper and 3PO are the only Vintage figures not on the movie cards that they came out on. Though technically Boba Fett was released on SW and ESB cards before ROTJ, it's his ROTJ paintjob which Kenner wasn't worried about then. I suppose if you count the Special Editions then ROTJ-colored Fett should be on a SW card like his very first release....
Anyhoo, I'd like to see those rereleased on their very first edition cards and any upcoming vintage figures released on their first edition cards. The only reason why the 4-5 from the vintage line weren't released like that is due to Hasbro wanting to do 4 iconic figures per movie. No reason to worry about that now.
I think I would prefer them to release the rest of the first 12 figures on their vintage cards including rereleases of Vader, Stormie and 3PO.
The wave would be:
R2-D2 (ROTS R4 sculpt)
Darth Vader (Rerelease)
C-3PO (ROTS with Silver leg)
Stormtrooper (Rerelease - but hey, a second chance to army build)
Death Squad Commander (I suppose since Fett was appropriately colored, the DSCommander should also be painted how he should've been, but I wouldn't mind him being grey)
Boba Fett (not a first 12 figure, but it rounds it out to 8 for this wave.)
05-23-2006, 02:16 PM
Assuming the Wave 4 list is accurate, I like all of them, save for the Leia. Of course, finding them............:(
05-23-2006, 03:44 PM
I'd love to see more in this line, but I'd rather see other figures made first before another vader. They also need to stop this 2 of each per case nonsense. We're going to be swimming in Greedo's before long. The Snow trooper should be 1/4 to half of the case.
05-23-2006, 04:26 PM
I also hope they make the entire vintage line in this fashion. How cool would it be to have the entire vintage line carded hanging by it's side, the entire new vintage line. WOW, whatta dream! :crazed:
05-23-2006, 07:49 PM
Over on SWC I had a theory on how we could get the entire vintage line redone based on an earlier thread I had on here. Of course, nobody cared either time. :p But the idea is mainly to pick out what figures would be best suited for a full new figure, what figs could be modified and what figs were already perfect. New figures would be the full vintage price, modified figs would be a buck or two cheaper and reissued figs would be a buck or two cheaper than the modifieds.
I've got a full list of them made out if anybody wants me to post it.
One thing to keep in mind is that while the vintage line was 96 figures and it would be ALOT to get, it could be spread out over the years. In fact, with the movies now over the choices of figures to make will eventually dwindle over the years and they'll probably rerelease a TON of stuff. Even with multiple series, I doubt even combined they could give us the same amount of characters that one movie could.
So if Hasbro were to institute a subline for the vintage cards and eventually want to give the full set of 96 (and then some) it would give collectors something to really be into over the years. It would also cut down on some strain in the main line, since the vintage line would eventually have to give us some characters we haven't gotten yet or some we've wanted redone.

I too would love to see ROTS 3PO with the silver leg. Great idea, LT.
05-23-2006, 07:59 PM
If they did the freaky tall jawa and a smaller one in the same style as the commtech one with little legs and a lower robe that allows leg movement. Or a cloth lower robe so that you can have sacked out jawas. that'd be much cooler to me than any kind of glowing eyes feature.
nothing wrong with spots of yellow paint far as I'm concerned. I'd prefer to keep the integrity of the sculpt than have it messed up with a see through chunk shoved in the top or the figure bulked up to take batteries. or worse, be another salt shaker jawa like potf2 ones.
Jawas that can sit please. nevermind the glowing eyes.
05-23-2006, 08:41 PM
I think both can be done. I Lego can do it why can't Hasbro.
05-23-2006, 09:45 PM
well - has...*hands muffle Daddypants mouth*
05-24-2006, 02:31 AM
LT, let's see the list!
05-24-2006, 03:27 AM
I wouldn't be surprised if Hasbro finally abandons the "Vintage-style" concept for good, the OTC line had a lot of pegwarmers when all was said and done, my TRU still has VOTC Landos, and the current vintage TSC figures are not selling too well in my area at all (unless it's a Biker Scout). Plus, the VTSC aren't as robotic stiffly posed the way the VOTC were.

The sad thing is a ton of these would be pegwarmers, maybe it would work best if alot of the pegwarmers were primarily offered in exclusive sets?
05-24-2006, 11:45 AM
How much work did you put into this list? I would have stopped a quarter of the way through and abandoned it...
I like how it looks though. But like you, i think some of them would be pegwarmers and could harm the line if they were made. Again, i also think making those types of figures exclusives would help make them move.
05-24-2006, 12:02 PM
I can agree with some of the repacks mainly the POTC and later figs but paying $10 a fig I would be severly diappointed in Ugnaught or Klaatu.
05-27-2006, 01:46 PM
I really like this line I like the fact that they just stand them up unposed in the package hate that oreposed crap. I think they should have released them in the same order of the orignal figures that way you would no whats next. I hope it continues on because its they only line I collect now. I think I would rather of had a Death Squad Commander Galactic hunt figure mail away rather then lucas but on well just a thought.
I also noticed on the newest figures that there not sealing them with tape anymore looks like a heat seal think people were cutting the tape off and taking mailaway coupon things humm.
05-30-2006, 04:50 PM
I too would love to see ROTS 3PO with the silver leg. Great idea, LT.
You mean like the one that's already coming in the Endor wave on the throne? That's a slightly retooled version of the ROTS figure... with a silver leg and bendable knees.
05-30-2006, 05:01 PM
I want to see some POTF figures make it in this line. I love the way the POTF cards looked. It's be interesting to see what would warrant $10 though. Maybe a good Luke Stormtrooper, ot even Luke Endor would be nice.
05-30-2006, 06:14 PM
I would actually like a VTSC Walrusman. Every version of Wally ever put out is pretty much bad news. The Cantina Bar one has goofy looking legs, the Cantina Shodown version a weird stance, and the regular carded version has no articulation. Yep, Wally all the way.
Greedo was a poor choice because there have been some very good versions of him already produced, although you have to love his new Leon Phelps vest.
05-31-2006, 02:34 AM
I don't know if I would feel the need to have a complete vintage set redone in modern fashion. I think the cards are the best ever in the new line. I probably wouldn't buy any repacks...but then again, the cards are very tempting.
JON9000, yeah that soft goods vest was the reason why I bought yet another Greedo. And the new pistol isn't bad either.
06-01-2006, 11:51 AM
I hate this line. It is a slap in the face to all collectors and the only reason I buy it is because we will probably not get the better figures on a regular card for 7 dollars any time soon. It is also disrespectful to the TRUE vintage line to desecrate the cards like this. And lets not even go where Hasbro has split the line so now noone knows what to call it. They should have put this line on the regular cards.
06-01-2006, 02:18 PM
I would actually like a VTSC Walrusman.
Me too -- I always loved the look of his card, kind of airbrushed and hazy -- I'd also love to see Hammerhead carded up on the SW-style card.
Frankly, I love this line, and if Hasbro-Kenner had done this from the get go, I'd have been perfectly satisfied and most likely not have bought much of the POTF2 and POTJ stuff -- except the figures that had never been produced in the original line. Chasing that nostalgia high, I guess. I can't deny the fun of seeing them hanging from pegs again.
I like the Lucas Stormie exclusive, and it could open the door for some fun if the Vintage Style line continues...maybe they could do an exclusive Han Stormtrooper or Tarkin on totally original (yet Vintage Styled) cardbacks. That could be great -- or a "vinyl" caped Jawa, Yak Face or Blue Snaggletooth. Tributes to the old line and the collectors. There are lots of fun possibilities.
Beyond the five rumored figures (Bespin Luke, Snowtrooper, Jawa, Endor Leia and Vader(why?)), I would love to see Hoth Han, Snaggletooth, Leia Hoth, Wicket, Luke Stormtrooper and General Lando -- all great figures that haven't yet been done to death. if they did 10 a year for a few years, that would suit me just fine.
On a side note, has anyone seen a decrease in the demand for genuine vintage items now that these "mimics" have come along?

In the responses to the questions posted at other sites, we got some big news/clues as to the future of the Vintage line:
Yakface.com: Are there any plans to revisit the POTF-style cardbacks when issuing the new Vintage (VTSC) line of figures? Of all the figure that have been released in the modern era(1995-2006), are there any you'd personally like to see resculpted?
Hasbro: We don't have any plans to use POTF-style cardbacks for the Vintage line right now. The second part of your question is a great one. Personally, of all the figures in the modern era, I'd like to see a really great resculpted Jedi Luke.
JediTempleArchives.com: The UGH George Lucas Stormtrooper program has had its pluses and minuses. Now that the bulk of the initial stages of this program are behind us, can you say that you will be offering a similar program next year?
Hasbro: We will be offering a Vintage line in 2007. However, we have not yet determined the specific promotion that will support the release -- or even if there will be a promotion. Details will be realesed as things are finalized.
ActionFigureInsider: You said VOTC/VTSC figures are based on fan popularity. Does this mean that an SA Jedi Luke (with removable soft goods cloak and grey tunic) is a good bet for this line? His popularity with fans is obvious since he made the Top 25 in the poll.
Hasbro: Very good question. A super articulated Jedi Luke is at the top of our list of potential candidate for the next line of vintage figures.
So we know it will be continued next year, it seems unlikley that they will be doing any POTF style carded figures with coins and Luke Skywalker Jedi Knight seems to be a front runner for reproduction. I was kind of hoping for a POTF Luke Stormtrooper, but that seems to be out for now. Which is a fine.
I hope they do a dozen of the vintage figures next year. How cool would a vintage packaged tauntaun or Dewback be too?
