however i need not remind you that numbers don't tell the whole story. they probably fell behind early and had to abandon the run. :p

JetsAndHeels

Yeah he probably will have 4 rushes for 20 yards next time.
so the line on him would go
4-20, good work between the hash marks

My guess is that he will rush for 420 yards this season, though that might be a bit high. Here's hoping to him smoking the competion. His team must love to see this former NFL superstar playing in their joint.

Sweet. I just joined the league with the team name "The Strangers". I know who bantha, Slick's DOM, and Kids are, but who are the other peeps?

A live draft? That's serious. Shouldn't be a problem here though, I should be able to make it.

Thanks for letting me join in guys.

I heard that the Campbells soup company decided not to go with the deal they made with Big Ben and his mom for the new commercials (kind of like the ones McNabb and his mom do). I guess it was too much of a liability after his accident.
However in a turn of good luck, the polident denture company came calling and offered Ben a nice fat contract to do endorsements for their denture grip!!

Hey figrin, that deal sounds good on the cards. I actually have a couple drew cards (press pass and sage i think) so I will hang onto those and we can work out a trade soon.

Here is how I'm hoping my team shapes up:

QB Ryan Leaf
RB Maurice Clarett, Lawrence Phillips, Ki-Jana Carter (unless I can trade for Curtis Enis or Blair Thomas)
WR Rae Caruth, David Terrell
TE Mark Chamura
K Scott Norwood
Defence: Brian Bosworth

I still need a second QB. Does anyone know how Joe Theisman's leg is doing? Oh nevermind, I'll just get Akili Smith.

figrin bran
08-03-2006, 11:19 AM
that looks like an awesome squad Rogue but look out when i get Ricky Williams, Onterrio Smith, Chris Henry, and from out of retirement Michael Irvin, Rick Mirer, Todd Marinovich

at kicker i have a sleeper - Cole Ford, the same Cole Ford that played for the Trojans and very briefly for the Raiders and who has since become a vagrant prone to firing gunshots at Siegfried and Roy's estate.

CaptainSolo1138

I'm a Bills fan from way back, too, and I agree. That was one of the greatest football teams ever assembled (Yeah, I said it!). Kelly, Thomas, Reed, Lofton, Beebe, Smith, Tasker, Bennett, Conlan...I could sit here and type for the next five minutes. I miss the pre-JP Losman days:cry:

Rogue II
08-03-2006, 11:44 AM
Oh, how I miss those days. How did they go from Jim Kelly to a 3 way battle between Nall, Losman, and Holcombe? I know. When a certain Bills' executive said, "Sure, we'll take Rob Johnson. Here is a first round draft pick."

JOHNSON WAS A BACK-UP! WHY DIDN'T THEY STICK WITH FLUTIE?!?!?!?

This has been another Bills' Moment, by Rogue II.

it's just getting meaner!
forget about Mirer and Marinovich. for my QB's i want Scott Mitchell and Andre Ware!!!! (no wonder the lions have suffered so much misery and i'll bet they're paying off Mitchell's contract). at WR i want Michael Westbrook and at RB i'm adding Darth Cruel's all time favorite Steeler, Bam Morris. unfortunately, Mitchell and Ware can't even compare to Ryan Leaf who produced perhaps the greatest soundbite ever (next to Iverson's practice tirade) with "hey! Knock it off!! *sound of metal crashing to the floor*".

but the rest of you shouldn't worry as there's plenty of depth at QB!
here's just a sample:

Mike Tomczak
Erik Kramer (if i remember correctly, he stunk it up for both the Lions and Bears)
Heath Shuler
Ron Powlus
Bobby Hoying
Ty Detmer
Jim Everett
Cade McNown
Dave Krieg
and do you guys remember Dan McGwire, Mark's brother?

Rogue, i think JP's last name should be spelled "Lostman" from now on! :p

I just read on Wikipedia that Mandarich died in 1993. I had no idea. And people say Wiki is useless.
I'm confused. Mandarich was an offensive lineman, and from what I can gather he's still alive.

'Mandarich returned to football for three years between 1996 and 1998 with the Indianapolis Colts. He had a more successful, if not particularly noteworthy, career with the Colts before retiring from football in 1998.

From September 2004 until September 2005, Mandarich served as an NFL analyst for the The Score TV sports network in Canada. He was fired in October 2005 and currently resides in Arizona.'

lol! i've done 4 leagues before and more often than not, you find yourself watching games and having players on both teams and so you hope and pray that both defenses play lousy and your players can rack up numbers! ;)

Quack, CptnSolo and Rogue, i just want to let you guys know that it's an autopick draft unlike our SSG league. i figure that with people scattered across the country, it's hard to find a time that works best for everyone.

let me go check how many are in that league currently and i'll figure out how many of you to let in.

and KH, yes you can indeed change the league name. i just tried it on mine. you go to commissioner tools then click on the "change league name and password" link. then you change FARVE to FAVRE! do it for the love of Madden!!!! ;) especially since when i see "favre" i think of larva which isn't a particularly pleasant image.

Cedric Houston is better than Suggs anyhow. you guys are better off w/out him. he couldn't even hang onto the starting job in cleveland.

thank you KH! i can sleep better at night now :p

Quack and Solo, i've sent you two invites to the league. Rogue, i'll probably have room for you. let me wait a day to see how things turn out and i'll let you know. thanks guys!

Yeah I am not worried about it. I like Cedric Houston..what I saw of him last season I like him and think he has great potential. Plus we still have Derrick Blaylock so if we can add one more back we will be in good shape.
Also I am kind of glad this trade didn't go through because we get to keep our CB Derrick Strait. I like his potential as well and hopefully this will give him even more incentive to perform.

I'll tell ya, my friends that are Jets fans, were dancing when Herm left.
And I'm not looking forward for tomorrow, when I start getting the razzing.

no, i got home too late J&H and by that time the 4th stringers were in already.

i like larry johnson too but herm's probably going to run him 35 times per game and since he's the sort of back that looks for contact, he'll probably only last half the season before having to miss games.

JetsAndHeels
08-17-2006, 11:19 PM
Or Herm could do what he did in NY....could play the older back and sit the younger, better back.

He had Curtis take all the carries and let Lamont Jordan ride the pine.

Just completed the first of my three FFB drafts an hour ago. I landed some decent players. FYI- LJ, Tomlinson, Alexander, Portis and several other top players were Keepers, so they weren't available. Here is who I got (I'll just list starters):

QB- D. Bledsoe
RB- R. Johnson
RB- J. Jones (keeper)
WR- R. Moss
WR- P. Burress
WR- J. Galloway
TE- C. Cooley
K- Rackers
DEF/ST - Bucs

RB- R. Johnson
RB- J. Jones (keeper)
WR- R. Moss
WR- P. Burress
WR- J. Galloway
TE- C. Cooley
K- Rackers
DEF/ST - Bucs

Not a bad team at all. Having Bledsoe as qb is good since he now has one of the league's best WRs. The only thing I see you may want to change is TB at defense.
Who are your reserves?

UKWildcat
08-20-2006, 11:21 PM
Who are your reserves?

Not too many good ones, but here they are:

RB- C. Brown
RB- M. Pittman (maybe Cadillac will blow a tire) :D
I tried to get Marion Barber, DAL Backup, but someone grabbed him first.
WR- J. Juerivicious (sp?)
WR- R. Ferguson
QB- Chris Simms

I'm not too worried about my Def/ST. Most of the top ones were taken, Bears, Colts, Carolina, Seahawks, Ravens, Jags, etc. With a lot of the better ones gone, I feel comfortable with the Bucs...

JetsAndHeels
08-20-2006, 11:25 PM
Joe Jeruvicius (or whatever) is a good WR. He doesn't put up huge numbers but the guy has won a super bowl and is a clutch player. That's a good solid reserve you have there!!
The rest looks pretty good too, but don't count on Pittman playing any bc the Cadillac is out of the garage.

UKW, that looks like a solid starting lineup. the only player i'd be concerned about is Julius Jones. Maybe you could deal away Chris Brown for Marion Barber? i have a feeling Lendale White will take his starting job away, esp. since Brown seems to always run upright which leads to him taking really hard hits which leads to injuries.

which incidentally is true of Caddy so don't deal away or cut Pittman.

Yea, I'm going to try and get Barber. Like I said earlier, I was going to pick him up but someone grabbed him like 4 picks before me, in the same round. I couldn't believe it! :( I will try and get him though. I like Julius Jones, but he is fragile and has yet to prove that he can stay healthy for a complete season. Hopefully with the addition of TO, this will take some pressure off of him. It should! :D

UKW, the cowboys are my team so i follow JJ's situation very closely and he just doesn't have Parcells' complete trust so even if he is healthy, Barber will still figure into the mix and get a few carries per game. maybe even around the goal line.

i'm sure you've seen in the past how if you gain Parcells' confidence, he'll stick with you through thick and thin and even bring you along onto other teams. unfortunately, julius jones isn't one of those guys. (and yet, keyshawn is??? go figure)

also, i'm not really sure if Jurevicius will be able to duplicate his numbers from last season. after all, it's the browns that we're talking about and they're relying on a really young QB in Charlie Frye.

I didn't do to bad myself

QB - Peyton Manning

WR - Randy Moss

WR - Charles Rogers

WR - Eddie Kennison

RB - Tatum Bell

RB - Kevin Jones

TE - Benjamin Watson

BENCH

RB - Cedric Benson

QB - Aaron Brooks

TE - Jerramy Stevens

WR - Michael Jenkins

Kicker - Jason Hanson and Jeff Reed

Defense - Da' Bears...and the Lions

As you can see I could use a little help in the RB slot as well but we'll see how the season goes before I make any drastic moves.

i have yet another draft in about 2 hours, this one with defensive players added!

at the local collector show (the infamous F&S), i picked up a box of upper deck football...the only good rookies i got were joseph addai and vernon davis. the jerseys were crap - Meshawn and Errant Brooks.

Good luck figrin. I've played in several ffb leagues for several years now, but have never played with individual defensive players. Not sure if I'd like that either.

figrin bran
08-27-2006, 02:14 AM
i don't really like the team i just drafted but i guess it's okay

Trent Green, Drew Brees

Randy Moss, Reggie Wayne, Drew Bennett, Jerry Porter, Joe Jurevicius, Samie Parker

Tiki Barber, Deshaun Foster, Ahman Green, Sam Gado, DeAngelo Williams, Michael Pittman

Tony Gonzalez

John Kasay

Ronde Barber, Julius Peppers, Antonio Pierce

i used to think using individual defensive players was pretty cool but now i don't really like it. unless they make a really big play like intercepting a pass and returning it 60 yards for a TD, they don't generate a whole lot of points and since we only play 3 of them in this league, what's the point and why not just stick with team defenses.

obviously i worry about Foster's and Green's injury history so i had to waste picks on Gado and D. Williams.

Not a bad team figrin. Pretty solid. Might not be spectacular, but pretty solid across the board.

Not sure if you heard or saw, but Randy Moss blew up yesterday. 3 catches, 102 yards, 2 touchdowns. I'm loving that since I have him in my other league.

Just finished with my last ffb draft, which was live. Here is who I got:

starters (most likely):

QB- Tom Brady
RB- Brain Westbrook
RB- Willie Parker
WR- Darrell Jackson
WR- Donald Driver
WR- Keyshawn
TE- Tony Gonzales
K- Jay Feely
DEF - Carolina

reserves:

QB- Brunell
RB- Chris Brown
WR- Mushin Muhammad
TE- J. Wiggins
DEF - Philly

And yes, everyone had to draft two TEs and two Defenses. Kinda a waste, but oh well. They will be dropped for more RB/WR backups.

We drafted through cbs.sportsline and my first round ended up getting screwed up. I had pick 6, I believe it was, and I was going to take Edgerin James but I kept clicking on his name and nothing happened. I didn't see/know I had to click "Draft this player" at the very bottom of the screen (on 1600x1200 resolution, I didn't see it waaaay down there). Therefore, the computer gave me Tom Brady. I was kinda upset, but atleast I landed a good QB.

not bad UKW though i would hope you won't have to resort to using Brunell! i think donald driver should have a good season as his QB won't have much choice but to force feed him on every passing play.

I heard about this yesterday and thought it was some sort of joke, until I saw it on espn. lol

I just found out that I can only start 2 WRs (and not 3) in the league I drafted for last night. :( Turns out that with the cbs.sportsline free league they put limits on that. Understandable though, I guess.

even though i hate him because of the college he went to, carson palmer looked pretty good in his much ballyhooed first game since having major knee surgery. then again, it was only the swiss cheese defense of the packers.

My third (and final) league of this season had it's auto-draft this weekend. It is an 8 team league. I ended up with the first overall pick, so I got Alexander. All 3 of my teams have Eli Manning as the starting QB. I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not, but it will be a lot easier to keep track of during the season.

The other strange thing about this league is that we have a team defense and 3 defensive players (D, DL, DB). We do it every year, but the only time it becomes a problem is during bye weeks. There isn't enough roster spots to have back-ups at every position.

WHERE did you ever learn to coach???? !#!$#$!#!#$!)(*&(!!!"

Marcus Vick got cut but then signed onto the dolphins practice squad. it's merely a minor setback and what that is going to do is to light a desire and dedication within him to succeed like never before. look out NFL, Marcus Vick is coming back in full force next season! :p

I hate to tell you this brother but that will probably happen. Herm has no clue when it comes to clock management, smart play calling, etc.
The Chefs fans trip me out when they say how excited they are that he is now their leader..."oh he led the jets to the playoffs," blah blah blah. Well you know why he did? He had a supporting cast that was able to help pick up his retarded dumba$$ slack and then when it came time to be on the hotseat he threw them under the bus. After last season he didn't have anyone else left to blame so he ran.
Call me critical but its the truth. Things will go just like that in KC, mark it down.

This is what that autodraft gave me. Like I said, I had the #1 pick. Hopefully, the Madden Curse doesn't strike Alexander.

S. Alexander RB
S. Jackson RB
L. Fitzgerald WR
E. Manning QB
P. Burress WR
L. Evans WR
A. Crumpler TE
J. Elam K
Indianapolis DEF
T. Polamalu DB
M. Strahan DL
C. Tillman DB
A. Green RB
D. Bledsoe QB
K. McCardell WR
J. Stevens TE
Denver DEF

I dropped Stevens(who's bye week is the same as Crumpler's) and picked up D. Freeney (Ind - DL). I'm not going to bother keeping 2 TEs.

JetsAndHeels
09-06-2006, 10:41 PM
Well you've got good rbs...alexander is always good and jackson will be more active this year. plus youve got that good qb/wr combo in manning and burress so that will help you get extra points when they are starting.
Drew Bledsoe is good to have, not just for TO but because the guy makes plays even though he isn't considered part of the top 5 or 10 qbs in the league...i believe he had like 23 td passes last year and thats pretty darn good.
oh yeah make sure you use fitzgerald alot that guy will put you up some points not just on tds caught but passing yards as well

figrin bran
09-06-2006, 10:47 PM
Rogue, beware of Burress! i had him last year and his inconsistency was quite maddening.

even as great players as they are, i would suggest dropping either Strahan or Freeney in favor of a LB. from my experience playing in leagues with defensive players, even the best DL guys are feast or famine - if they get a sack, then you're okay but if they don't, if they're like Julius Peppers and get doubled all game long, then their stats are worthless. it might be better to have at least one LB in your lineup as they are the most reliable producers among defensive players...at the very least, they'll rack up tackles and maybe cause a turnover here or there. also, even a great CB like Tillman might be iffy because if teams don't challenge him and throw his way, he won't get Int's or even tackles.

Rogue II
09-06-2006, 11:12 PM
Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully I only have to use Bledsoe for 1 game, but D. Brees, Mi. Vick, B. Leftwich, M. Brunell, A. Brooks, & B. Johnson were not drafted and are Free Agents. Jamal Lewis, Laveranues Coles, Keyshawn Johnson, and a few other starting WRs also were not drafted.

I dropped Strahan and picked up Urlacher. Vilma and Donnie Edwards were also available. Not bad, eh?

figrin bran
09-06-2006, 11:47 PM
wow, nobody drafted Urlacher???? you can use LB's at either the D or the DL spot and so if Freeney doesn't produce, don't be afraid to pick up Vilma or Edwards.

and there's nothing wrong with using Bledsoe at all. he and Delhomme were my championship tandem last season :)
