This is very urgent. I think some kind of petition, vote, poll or consitutional amendment needs to be started to solve this problem. No more head splitting, missile shooting, straight lever/L lever or laser gun legs nonsense. Who's with me?

08-22-2001, 08:12 AM
I actually heard that they will be releasing a new R5-D4.

08-22-2001, 09:44 AM
I've been reading that for the last 6 months as well. I don't think a petition is necessary. I think Hasbro knew they blew it with mega-missile launching R5-D4.

08-22-2001, 10:46 AM
Though I agree that perhaps a petition is not particularly necessary, I think Hasbro needs to know that R5-D4 is still on our minds. If for no other reason than to support the projected resculpt. I too had read rumors that R5 was already in the works, but was surprised that the intrepid droid was absent from the mix that included rumored characters like FX-7 and Eeth Koth, but lacked Bo Shek and Teebo. But then perhaps these three figures' prototypes or paint masters were not ready in time for Wizard World.
An R5-D4 makes sense not just to correct a terrible error, but also because R5, like R2, is an easy template for other similar droids.

I meant my first post as a joke. Sometimes we can get a little worked up over a fig that should be made or remade. I just thought I would take it a ridiculous step forward.

And where did I learn to spell constitutional?

I've heard about that as well! But if they go ahead with it will see the droid around EP2s release!

08-23-2001, 08:22 AM
I assume that with the Episode II figures, the classic figures will slowdown, but not stop completely. There are still some figures that have been mentioned that we have not seen; R5-D4, BoShek, & Teebo. I don't see it being a problem.

I wanted to take a moment to thank Hasbro for R4-M9, a droid I've wanted for ages! However, I am sad to discover that this droid comes to us at the expense of the long-awaited, corrected, resculpt/rerelease of R5-D4! I can't wait for R4-M9, don't get me wrong, I am just hopeful that Hasbro still intends to rerelease R5-D4 in a corrected version. The more droids the better I say, but please do not forget to correct one of the most glaring mistakes of the past.

10-31-2001, 10:34 AM
I gotta back that up! SSG just reported that the R5-D4 was abandonded for this figure and while I am grateful for a new-domed-astromech, I really think we need to replace that POTF2 piece of laughable junk named "R5-D4".

Oh, and anybody at Hasbro, please do an Astromech from the classic trilogy that has a clear dome with the detaily bits inside!

10-31-2001, 04:16 PM
As much as ai think that R5-D4 needs a resculpt, i am not really upset with what we have just heard. I'd rather get something new that we have never gotten before. CLear top Droid would be cool too.

Yes Tricks, finally someone else I don,t look crazy any more! Well maybe I do. The single most figure that i have always wanted would be the yellow R2 unit with see through dome from ESB. This would be so cool! Right behind you Troche!

10-31-2001, 07:30 PM
Yes!! R4 and R5 and that clear-domed one! Just make them all!
All they have to do is resculpt the head since the bodies are so similar. What could be easier than that?

Yes, I must say I am both excited and disappointed by this news. I'm glad to see an R4 unit, but I hope to still see an R5-D4 resculpt, as the POTF2 version is one of the worst Star Wars figures ever. Bring on astromechs in all their myriad forms, Hasbro! That clear-domed one would make me really happy.:)

10-31-2001, 10:11 PM
YES, a new droid. They really do need to re-do the R5-D4 droid though. even so, I look forward to any droids that they come up with. I would probably buy them all as long as they were actually action figures and not just 2 molded pieces of plastic on 1 hinge.

11-01-2001, 12:58 AM
I think its great that we're getting R4-M9 since I've wanted him for ages :) But also R5-d4 needs an update to improve over the last one!

11-02-2001, 09:40 AM
I am glad to see such an outpouring of replies to this thread. I love the fact that we are getting one of the coolest Astromech droids ever. And I wholeheartedly look forward to the possibility of the clear domed droid as well! I still think that Hasbro needs to address the correction of that greivous error that is the missle firing R5-D4. And as I've said, it opens the door for more variations on the same body/head.

03-22-2002, 08:25 AM
Dearest Hasbro folks,

Having seen a rumor list of upcoming figures for this year, I am generally pleased with what's coming. Great army builders, one more vintage redo (Madine), and lots of nifty two-packs. However, there is one injustice in the modern line that still needs to be addressed. Please, forever erase the memory of the missile-firing abomination that was the POTF2 R5-D4, and give us a beautifully sculpted, decoed, three-legged replacement. A pop-up blown motivator would also be nice, if it doesn't goof up the appearance. Maybe it could even be a two-pack with one of the other sandcrawler droids. Grant me this wish, Mighty Hasbro, for my 24 years of collecting loyalty.

03-22-2002, 05:45 PM
With all of us R5-D4 fans clamouring for a resculpt and the news that he's in ATOC --- it would appear that Hasbro REALLY missed the starship on this one. How awesome it would've been to have gotten this guy during midnight madness. As it is --- I'm am angry AND bitterly disappointed.

Curse their corporate body, it wasn't fast enough.

My heart is heavy with regret and the fun that might have been. I can't believe we're getting another PloGOON!!!! and no R5.

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

03-23-2002, 10:40 AM
I'm sure we'll see a new R5-D4 this year sometime (fingers crossed). Yes, a new one needs to be made.

03-24-2002, 07:59 AM
All you have to do is make a new head for a little astro droid. can't be that hard to do can it? So why haven't you done it yet?

I Emperor Jargo decree that you Hasbro shall have a figural representation of the R5-D4 in stores by summertime. Okay?

*that should have it sorted guys, thank me later yeah?*

03-24-2002, 08:50 AM
I was so excited last summer when I heard he was coming in a future wave of POTJ:). Then imagine my disappointment when he was replace by R4:)( still an excellent figure and I want to thank Hasbro for this beautiful suprise:). I agree it would be a simple head sculpt for Hasbro and hence vere cost effective because they could use the regular astro body, but I don't want a blown motivator feature( too scared of how that would turn out). I would buy several for customizing. Hasbro hear our plea and give us an R5 in the AOTC assortment.

04-27-2002, 12:33 AM
I would buy several for customs and easy for Hasbro to make, just need a new head. Who's with me?

04-27-2002, 01:36 AM
I'm in. Definitely in.

We definately need a new R5-D4, but before you start your petition...I read in the forums that there is a rumor of a new one coming.

04-27-2002, 10:46 AM
Yeah, I think there is one coming. R4-M9 release was rumored to have taken the place of R5-D4.

I have also read rumors of the long last D4 fig maybe just maybe this one will not have A missle launcher inside of it! I'm droid crazy and cain't wait for this fig. please put one out! You don't understand the power of the droids I bought the Amidala cruiser for the R2 figure inside I love the R2-Q5 make them all! I have pics in the action figure archive of a black R4-M9 what a great fig this would be and all you have to do is paint it diffrent! Bring on the droids...

04-27-2002, 05:04 PM
Hell yeah! gotta do the R5 droid dude. he's the catalyst for the whole of the saga. No R5, no quest, no story, no movies. Gotta do the R5 droid dude. Plus, while you're doing his head sculpt you might want to think about all the other R5 droids you could do. BTW, there's an R5 droid in AOTC that's mauve that you could do.

Here's some really simple repaints I did with R3 and R4 droids. including the dark R4 that SithWorm mentioned which is actually prussian blue not black. But if an idiot like me can do a half decent paint job then I see no reason why you with all your resources can't do a better one and give the astro droid lovers what they want.

04-27-2002, 06:40 PM
EMPEROR JARGO, you did R4-E1? Excellent! I read that was BoShek's droid! I was going to make a custom of him myself but I never found any R4-M9s.

04-29-2002, 02:10 PM
yeah, I got the pic round the wrong way didn't I? D'OH! I got three so i could do these customs as they're the only ones I had pics for. Same for the R3 droids. The green that Hasbro spayed the stripes of R4-M9 with is really hard to cover up. Took about six coats of white to do it. Glad you like him though. :)

04-29-2002, 02:27 PM
awesome job Jargo. The only figures I'v painted were Hoth Han and HOth Han from the taun Taun. They desperately needed blue parkas.I'm in for a new R5.Maybe later this year.any body wondered if he would part of the disney exclusive crap plan?

04-29-2002, 02:28 PM
I hope not. . .exclusives are the devil.

04-30-2002, 08:56 PM
Jargo, you're droids are absolutely amazing. Bravo!

Start this petition. Sadly, I see no new plans for a new R5 on the horizon. My patience is at an end.

05-01-2002, 05:49 AM
wow those droids look inredible
if only I could get at least ONE of them here in europe for a decent price...

05-07-2002, 02:40 PM
Check Thrawn's Q&A on the front page, looks like everyone's 2nd favorite astromech is due out later this year. :)

Q: Will they make new 3-1/2" scale R5-D4 in the near future?

A: Yes, there will be one in the saga line later this year if it stays on schedule.

R5-D4 showed up in AOTC when Anakin and Padme pull up to Watto's shop. Perhaps we'll see a new figure soon!

Does the Sneak Preview R3 satisfy your desire JT, or do you want an actual R3 from the OT?

And a hearty "Sure. Why not?" to a new R5-D4...

Goodness gracious! Jargo's decree only has a few months left on it. Hasbro, surely you don't want to face the wrath of a fussy englishman. Give us R5-D4 and save yourselves!

(Boy, there sure are a lot of R5-D4 threads...)

Hurrah! Guess what Hasbro. Supply and demand says if you make more droids, we'll buy them. It's a crazy sheme on your part to make a profit!

05-25-2002, 01:29 PM
C'mon Hasbro! What is the deal! Heck, I love R3-T7 --- but he's not even in the film! At least R5-D4 rolls on by at one point . . . Dang it all! Where is he? Bring him on! Please. Please! PLEASE!!!

05-25-2002, 01:34 PM
According to Hasbro, he's still coming this year. Thrawn even confirmed as such in one of his recent Q&A's. Just relax and don't have a anurism, he won't come any faster if you do. :)

According to who at Hasbro? Seriously, I don't recall an official "Oh, yeah, he's coming" info from them at all . . . I HOPE YOUR RIGHT. But I certainly haven't heard anything about him what-so-ever. And we keep getting other confirmations for next year even, like that Blue Twileek Jedi . . . I'd just like some photos or something so I could rest easy . . .

BTW, next time, feel free to PM me or the section mod (or both) about all these threads being the same (that goes for JJB too, who has been known to do similar things... from time to time :D) rather than posting up a storm.

Oh, and Thrawn may have missed that post about R5-D4 disappearing, I'll have to ask him about that next time I get a chance.

Come on, Hasbro old buddy, don't let me down!

Let's see the official nod on R5 for this year.
