View Full Version : Wow, I really miss swcollecting.com

I was just crusing through the archived forums at swcollecting.com (http://swcollecting.com/) and in our short time we did/said some wacky schtuff. Aside from another site that was the most fun I've ever had on a forum. I don't know if it was the other than kid friendly atmosphere (still no swearing but you could get away with a little bit more) or the fact that everyone knew everyone there.

I see that JT posted the other day and that makes it no fair for me. I think I shall find a password hacker and change the password and just have a field day in there posting everything until I eclipse KH's post total.

Viva la swcollecting, indeed.

BTW, I'm still very, VERY upset that that mabudonicus character wasn't banned after the BOB BARKER incident.:bandit:

I miss SWC too...Good times.. good times.

I knew a lot of the members before the move to SWC but while there I got to know them much better. It's safe to say, had it not been for SWC I probably wouldn't have made some of the close friendships that I have here at SSG. Yea, may sound corny, but it's the truth. :D

I never even broke the triple-digit post mark, so how could I have enjoyed it (as enjoyment, according to Einstein's Theory of Hilarity is E = mP2; where E is enjoyment, m is use of "mouse droid" as an allusion, and P is the amount of padded posts squared). I never got warned, let alone banned; what fun is that?

It was. At SWC we could have 100X100, and that change was made here as well when we all came back. Before that, we all had the tiny 75X75.

Yeah, SWC was good fun. I liked the lack of ads, and the lack of (sorry folks) random newbies. Plus, the ability to say "***" was nice too.

Heh heh, I'm glad I could make such a fun place for us to hang out at that even a month later we are still able to have fond memories of. Believe me when I say that it was thanks to you guys for making it fun, you all made it the right combination of elements to make it a real good time. And I'm honored that SWC is still something we can all carry with us. :)

Man, I miss it!

I had a GREAT time there. I completed more deals with people there in a month, than in my many years here at SSG.

Since the return of SSG, I've only made 3-4 deals...

I do want to reiterate the many thanks I gave to those who helped me out then. I scored many clones (among other figs) thanks to you good folk. (A side note, I'm 11 away from my goal for Utapau troopers and nearly reached my goal for Tac Ops/JTA troopers-THANKS!!!)

I still wish we could post there. I just wonder how Kidhuman ever pays for all of his SW stuff (plus stuff he gets for others) when he's seemingly always online. Get a job ya bum...heh heh.

Seriously, that month+ was by far one of the best collecting experiences I've had ever.

Not that I would ever diss this place . . I mean we wouldn't know each other without it. But SWC was an awesome run! It felt like a real basement back alley collectors club. We all knew the password to get in and some of our stuff was stored there. I do miss the more "adult" feel there too. Not trying to exclude any kids from this hobby, but sometimes the big people like to talk about big things . . . he he he . . .

SWC was an awesome place and JT was incredible for setting it up. It was kinda like summer camp, but too short. Lots of fond memories that hopefully we would be able to re-visit again!

JT, we determined that there was (for some people - perhaps new MySpace members?) a 3-day waiting period or something like that - maybe it was a 1-week period) before you could post. That's very strange because that never happened to me before on MySpace as I joined new groups. But I was a MySpace member long before I joined a few groups or started that SSG one.

You guys can use the MySpace SSG in Exile page as a club house. That's fine by me.

If you dropped off, send me a MySpace message and I'll send you an invite. It's still a private group. However, I think I made it so that members can invite other new members - I don't have to approve them. No one's used that place for over half a year, but it's there.

Language is anything goes, as are topics (but don't turn people off). But don't post porn or images of death, as I think that's violating MySpace's rules.

I check my groups pretty often, so I'll participate if anything's going on there that interests me.

I too liked JT's SWCollecting page and how the site didn't have to be PG. That being said, I am such a contrary that I behaved better there, on MySpace (in the SSG forum group anyway), and at Steve's new ActionFigs site. I only really misbehave here because it's traditional.

That being said, I can still have some fun raising hell in the general forums at MySpace in R&P threads, but since the Democrats have fully taken over Congress, I have felt such inner peace. Nancy Pelosi has a calming affect on me.

I miss the people here, but the actual reason is probably a combination of the lull in active posts, and the fact that I really hated the prequels to the point that they kind of retroactively ruined my enjoyment of the original trilogy. Glad I'm not the only one. :(Yeah, we all feel kinda separated over that but it turns out there are a lot of us out there who feel similarly. I sometimes wonder in that Tycho-is-a-conspiracy-nut sort of way if that was Lucas' intention all along, he was sick of the fanboys and wanted to end it but also wanted to push his technologies (CGI characters, CGI environments, digital filming, digital projecting).

So where did the idea of replacing Chuck with Bob Barker come from? I was wondering because I just saw on Chuck's website that Bob Barker was among Chuck's martial arts students.Back in the SWC days, the whole "Chuck Norris once ate the moon" type crap was going way crazy, I got tired of it and somewhat randomly chose "BOB BARKER" for the auto-censor to replace the word "Chuck Norris" and it threw folks into a tizzy at first. I knew about Barker training martial arts under Norris but didn't connect it until right after the thread calling me out about the whole thing. Now, to SWCers, BOB BARKER is a god. :D

If I move, I'll need to set up another PHPBB forums system and move all the files. If I stay, I'll need to plop down a few hundred smackers for some spotty hosting. If I take it offline, the records of our time together will be gone.

As awesome as it is, I don't see the point in spending money on it. Unless they're opened back up.:lipsrsealed:

I agree. If you pay it should be opened back up. Can't you just take all the files off and save 'em in a text format of sorts?

How true. Agreed. :D

Sorry, I'm not sure where that came from. Seriously though. It was fun over there at SWC, but if you're not going to re-open it, there is no sense paying for it. Maybe if you open it, you could use it as an excuse to ask 3 more questions per week in Hasbro's Q&A.

Maybe if you open it, you could use it as an excuse to ask 3 more questions per week in Hasbro's Q&A.Don't think I haven't thought of that! :D Since day 1 of the Q&A really. I just compiled a list of the questions I personally have had answered by Hasbro, it was over 1/10th of the total which was surprising, so maybe...

That was what I originally thought JT was doing when there's some other site out there with a very similar name that gets questions answered. I thought that would've been too funny.

In the next Q&A thread, JT will be saying "Vote for 9..." hehe.

I'm actually surprised that other sites haven't made a stink about our "vote for 6" due to ActionFigs being also run by Steve. But we all seem to be getting along better nowadays than during the past with all the site wars.

As to JT's original question - you should dump it. We should all look to the future and not waste too much time reliving the past. It's something I try to remind myself all the time when my own past was brighter than one of my possible futures, what with my illness and all.

If you decide to keep it open you could always try and get donations from those of us that want 'em kept open. I know I'd throw some skrilla your way to preserve my memories...and my #3 all time SWC post count!!!

JT: what if the rest of us paid you to DELETE all of Slicker's posts instead? :D

Actually, I shouldn't be the one talk. Steve could hold a site fundraiser here to delete mine, when I come to think about it....

OK: False-Idea.

Another thing is that a lot of that stuff was just duplicates of what was here already. The content was different, but the gist was the same.

I say dump it. No need to pay just to read what has been read. If you pay to keep it, you should re open it every so often and let us go buck wild there.

That was what I originally thought JT was doing when there's some other site out there with a very similar name that gets questions answered. I thought that would've been too funny.I hadn't considered that, SWcollector.com might not like that as they've been in the Q&As since the beginning. It was never my intention to rip their name off, I didn't know they existed until after I bought the SWcollecting domain - still, that alone wouldn't hold me back.

I'm actually surprised that other sites haven't made a stink about our "vote for 6" due to ActionFigs being also run by Steve. But we all seem to be getting along better nowadays than during the past with all the site wars. We're not the only site whose network affiliate sites are asking questions. SSG and AF are 2 different "outlets" as Hasbro calls the sites, so it's not unfair, it just so happens Steve owns 'em both and I manage both Q&A articles.

If you decide to keep it open you could always try and get donations from those of us that want 'em kept open. I know I'd throw some skrilla your way to preserve my memories...and my #3 all time SWC post count!!!I am not sure why, but ever since I opened the site I knew it wouldn't feel right trying to get money from the users, I still feel strongly on this.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions gang, I'll keep thinking it over, I still have a few weeks to decide.

I was wondering the same thing actually. I was over at SWC a couple of days ago, just to see if it was still up and running, which it is.

Yeah, I've been posting in a thread there for the last 2-3 months, everyday. It's been hilarious, with much banter and insight, too.

Seriously, have any of you been snoppin' around there and noticed more than yourself as a register user? That's a weird feeling, being all alone, elusive, elsewhere, elemental, El DeBarge.

I kept putting off alternatives until it was too late to do anything about it, so I re-upped for a year and switched to monthly billing so I wouldn't get crushed all at once. I have a few other personal projects that have been waiting for me to do something with them, so I figure I'll just use that server to do them there.

As for what I'm doing with the site itself, I haven't decided what I'm going to do, SSG takes up so much of my free time right now as it is.

Thanks for the offer Vyn.

It was a tight knit group.

I had a blast during that brief time.

I was well-behaved over there, as well as on MySpace. The group needed strength in unity.

On SSG I make my plaform for my politicaly incorrectness.

But as it was, I didn't have a high post count on SWC because there's not a lot about Star Wars et. all to actually post about IMO, and SWC was not a political debate site (which is something I love, as I love to argue).

While it's also fun to just be silly, it was hard to relax and do when SSG was threatened with never being the same again.

Heh, I wonder if we culled the posts out of peoples accounts that were not SW related how many would be gone from the site....I think I'd have at least a good 80-85% of my posts.
