Of late (the past month or so) I've found myself browsing Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page) for hours on end going from article to another or just opening up different links from one article that interest me.

Earlier I started out looking at WWII articles (which every Wiki journey starts at for me) and after opening up the different links in the different articles I ended my journey with an article about strange deaths of famous people. In between there I read articles about The Day the Music Died, Owen Hart, The Black Tom Explosion, Hitler, Himmler, and the Triangle Shirt Waist Fire. As you can tell I'm more into the history aspect of it all but you can find an article about almost anything on there.

I'm such a wh*re.

I check in there from time to time. I found a whole section on Star Wars and the other movies. I think I went there after reading some poll on "MySpace" and found a list of things that happened on my birthday, or it might have been after watching a show on Bonnie and Clyde on the History channel and realizing they were gunned down on my birthday which lead me to a search on the ol' Wiki.

I think it's a great resource, I use it all the time, actually looked up a term I saw in Clerks 2, that was racial slur, cause I had never heard of it, and it gave me a whole list of terms for ripping all cultures and what not lol, of course I respect everyone on the boards, it was just funny to read.

I check in there from time to time. I found a whole section on Star Wars and the other movies. Here's the Star Wars companion to Wiki called Wookieepedia (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page).

Where? Wiki? You're kidding right?

I visit Wikipedia often. Maybe not once a day, but close. Usually when I go there I end up spending quite a bit of time though, flipping through pages and reading all sorts of interesting stuff. You can learn quite a bit from Wiki. Tis a very good educational tool.

Kewl! Is this a mock of Wiki? It looks very similar. like the onion looks like an actual factual newspaper.

I enjoy the site. It's a good place to get quick answers to somethings, and a place to start gettign some questions that sets me up to look around the web, library for more answers. It's had been nice to have this around in my college days.

I've seen Wookieepedia as well, that is some pretty fun stuff.

Wikipedia is the equivalent of the Encyclopedia Galactica. And if I turn my computer's voice feature on it will even talk just like the guide! Too bad it doesn't have the real voice of the book though.

I didn't know there were people who weren't addicted to Wikipedia. With me it starts with some simple query, and I follow a link, and I follow a link, and I follow a link, and I follow a link, and I follow a link, etc. and finally hours have passed and I have no idea how I've gotten to the article I'm viewing. I made a simple rule in my apartment. No one is responsible for his Wikipedia searches. The user doesn't decide what to look up. Wikipedia is posessed and it calls the shots.

Wikipedia is fun, but keep in mind, the wiki nature of the system means that anybody at any time can make any change to any article for whatever reason with completely incorrect information, so anything could be incorrect partially or totally, e.g. just because you read about Slicker's mom over there doesn't mean she's real.

That's what I thought JT, that anyone can contribute to it so the integrity of the information is in question.

I don't go there unless someone here links to it...

Yes, Professor, I promise to site at least two sources other than wikipedia on all my papers.;)

I looked up Slicker's mom there and it said she was a saint from the 14th century. I know the 14th century part is right, but I can't find corroborating evidence for the saint bit.

I once read on Wikipedia that Hitler personally lead Operation: Barbarossa on the back of his stegosaurus.

Any one use Wikimapia (wikimapia.org)? Every home should have it.

Not that I'm looking for incorrect information, but I like the "on-the-fly" feel of Wiki articles. Wiki is a great secondary source, nice to bounce off other "hard fact" sources. In other words, I go to Wikipedia when I want an opinion piece on my topic of choice. Look up something like Scientology, and you'll get a whole section devoted to how South Park made fun of it in the Tom Cruise episode, something you wouldn't necessarily get from a more traditional article.

Wiki is my lazy, go-to-first source for just about anything. It's a one stop shop, with a good showing of impartial, hard fact reporting, mixed with up-to-date, pop-culture editorial. If I wanted to do "real" research though, I'd move on to something more conventional.

Kewl! Is this a mock of Wiki? It looks very similar. like the onion looks like an actual factual newspaper. It's based off Wiki and if I'm not mistaken run by the same people. I think they take the bigger Wikis and make offshoots of them. They've got several of them that I know of.

That's what I thought JT, that anyone can contribute to it so the integrity of the information is in question.Yeah, I found some mistakes about the NES and corrected 'em, then made my own mistake. :p (I corrected it though)

I am addicted to http://www.imdb.com (http://www.imdb.com/) (International Movie Database)You're the second person in as many days I've seen make that name mistake, it's the INTERNET movie database. I read their news every day, and have IMDB, Wikipedia, Google, Dictionary.com (crappy site), SW.com, Ebay, and Amazon.com in my Firefox browser's quick-search bar, and I use them a lot.

Yes, Professor, I promise to site at least two sources other than wikipedia on all my papers.;)If you cite wikipedia on your paper at all, you will get a failing grade. :p

I go to Wikipedia a couple of times weeks. Although I do have it bookmarked I'm far from addicted to it. For quick, informal info it's pretty good. But beyond that I wouldn't trust it. The fact that any one can (and does) edit the articles is a bit bother some. I've seen articles change in a couple of hours times. A reason Discover magazine article documenting the changes to the evaluation article also has soured me a bit on Wikipedia.

Yes he did JT! I seen him! :D

I'm sure he was just reiterating kh, or maybe he isn't lying when he says he ignores your posts. ;) lol

Lets see here. I have Amazon, Ebay Summary, Myspace, IMDB, Photobucket, SirStevesguide and a couple of my credit card companies/banks. I use mine a lot as well.

I stated that last page.Really? You mentioned that it's the second time *I* heard someone use it that way in 2 days? :p

I'm sure he was just reiterating kh, or maybe he isn't lying when he says he ignores your posts. ;) lolYou people don't pay attention to me, my point was that I had just heard someone else make that same exact mistake, which was odd.

You have SSG on your FF search bar? I didn't even know that was possible.

Colbert just did a bit on Wiki tonight.Well, his point was actually using Wikipedia as a metaphor for a political situation (aptly, I might add), but it was a good one. Poor, poor elephants, at this rate there will be so many that they'll have no room left. :p

PLM Final Grade: Check... minus!
