View Full Version : C3PO with painted Knees!

I just got a case of the new Endor wave from an E-tailer and when I opened it up the C3PO with bending knees had the knee joints painted. The ones I saw in Wal-mart 2 weeks ago did not (just raw plastic where it bends.) My camera isn't good enough to take a close up of the joints, but it looks a lot better than the first version.

Very interesting. So one knee joint is painted Silver and the other is painted Gold? I'll have to get one of those. Too bad I opened mine already.

That's wild! Any photo will do at this point, please post even if it doesn't come out great, I am very curious to see this.

My 3PO has the unpainted knees so it's a good thing I haven't opened it yet. I'll watch for the corrected version. The datestamp on mine is 61281. The photo of 3PO on the cardback does show the droid with a silver right knee "cap" and gold left one.

I just noticed they put a piece of black tape over the symbols "CE" and triangle with the lionhead (on the bubble bottom). Anyone know what those symbols are for?

I don't really care at this point. It's not like they won't repackage him with new accessories at some point down the line.

I haven't had time to take any pictures yet (and I'm leaving for an out of town wedding this evening.) It looks pretty much like the picture on the back of the package though. I'll see what I can do when I get back.

By way of explanation...

the first picture is of the figure still in the package

the second is the figure opened with a little better detail.

the third one just proves that I need a new camera or some photography lessons.

And the fourth is my cute wife, Anna, holding the figure for me.

And, um, the pictures are on the previous page. Thank you drive through.

Thanks for the heads up on this one, I will need to check it out. I also have the unpainted knee one, which looks fairly unattractive, so this would be a pleasant change!

I do appreciate Hasbro trying to make the figure nicer looking - the unpainted plastic used for the knees (and torso) is pretty darn ugly!

I posted this in the news, linked to this thread.

Are the hips also painted properly? The original's are not.

Please, don't make mtriv73 pick up a camera again. :D I keed, I keed. Thanx for the great scoop!

The hips looked like they were painted. I haven't seen the original version except in the package, so I don't know what to look for, but the one I have is all painted.

Incidentally, if you get one of these, don't bend and unbend the knees a whole lot. The paint on the one I opened is starting to come off the knees already.

JediTricks

They are painted then, they originally looked like the knees and you'd have no trouble telling if that were the case.

I'm sorry to hear the paint comes off easily, maybe that's why the first batch didn't get painted. They should have tried to dye the plastic in those colors I guess. Still, I'd rather they tried and came up short than not tried.

Still, I'd rather they tried and came up short than not tried.Haven't found this figure yet (not that I've been looking too hard lately), but I'm more than happy that they even gave this one a shot at all. The fact that they'd go back and repaint the knees amazes me... it does look much better.

Thanks for the heads-up mtriv73.

I found the corrected version today with a datestamp of 61701. While 3PO's knees are painted, it's a dull matte color rather than the shiny chrome paint on the rest of the body.

I don't have time for loose pics or have a cute blonde wife to pose so you'll just have to settle for carded pics :p

The first one has unpainted knees, the second painted.

I will pick up the new painted one when/if I see it. Already got the 1st version, though this qualifies enough of a variation for me to get.

Nice photos of the hip comparison Dindae.

My sister was at WM yesterday and I talked her into checking the SW area for me, she actually found me the painted variant of this figure (I would have taken either since I currently have none, the PO lost my Endor wave).

I have not seen any of the Endor wave except for Jer-Jerrod. I wonder if this error or variation has caused a delay in the stores getting them in greater numbers, and why the Greatest Battles has been clogging the pegs (except for the Clones) I realy would like to have one of each of these C3PO's. Last weekend when I did the 1:00 AM Walmart Super-Hunt all I saw was more Greatest Battles. It's Frustratin'

plasticfetish
08-21-2006, 10:38 PM
Probably haven't seen the Endor wave because of the Greatest Battles stuff. It's weird going to Target today and there's two different C-3PO figures on the pegs. (It's a bit silly.)

Blue2th
08-21-2006, 10:47 PM
I'd like to see that kinda weird  Just a side note on the Greatest Battles C3P0. I heard he has two different bases. The Mustafar Lava base, and the ship deck base. Damn these variations! Still it makes the hunt fun when you find em. One of these days I'll walk down the toy isle and see the whole Endor wave!

plasticfetish

I'lll have to check the 3PO cards now... I wouldn't mind getting a version with the ship's deck base.
One of these days I'll walk down the toy isle and see the whole Endor wave!I still haven't seen the Deathstar Gunner. Looks like that one's going to be hard-ish to find (for now.) I've seen Chief Chirpas in a bunch of stores... it's nice though, but not the most popular.

I saw a bunch of them with the ships deck base. I would think the Mustafar base would be the error if you want to call it that. As the background picture is the inside of a ship. So far this year it's been only C3PO, Hem Dazon, and Momah Nadon (glasses) that have any variations or errors that I can think of. Aside from the deliberate heads variation of Genosis C3PO. (not counting holos)

I doubt it. Hasbro hasn't recalled anything like this in the past and I can't see them doing it now. I think it was just a running change. This wave hasn't been out for long so I'm not surprised everyone hasn't found it yet. The gunner will definitely be the hardest to find because it's a potential army builder. Luckily it's being shipped 2 per case (along with the Ewoks and 3PO's.) I'm more worried about all the Vaders that are backing up on the shelves keeping stores from restocking than anything else right now. At the rate it's going now, there will be nothing but Vader figures on the shelves around here by mid september.

bobafrett

At least this ones knees bend, the one from the VOTC (?) had no knee articulation what so ever, which ****ed me off because I bought two of them at $10 each.

Turbowars
08-30-2006, 11:56 PM
You bought 2 and didn't know the knees didn't bend? I really can't say much because I bought 2 myself, but did know that they sucked real hard.

i never opened my votc C3PO because i read all the reviews on it and decided to just keep it carded ;)

Yep, only because I wanted one to open, and a second one to keep carded. I have done this with every figure in both votc sets. Only exception was I bought a third set of the last 5 in order to get myself 2 of the George Lucas figures.

I only put one of the 3PO's with the ewok chair on lay away, since I have no desire to have another opened 3PO. Although the chair did make it tempting seeing as I don't have a golden droid that can sit that I know of.
