This is a thread that Mr. DaddyPants started over at SWC that I thought was rather interesting. And since I recently upgraded to DSL I wanted to compare the speeds from the last time. So I used this site that was provided by Slicker: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

This is my old stats . .

Woooooooo! Pants!

Download Speed: 42 kbps (5.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 289 kbps (36.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

Wow . . look out, I'm gonna pass you all on this one!!! Slow and steady wins the race!!!

These are my new stats:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 1200 kbps (150 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 317 kbps (39.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

That's a Major improvement. And that was on my laptop with a bit slower network card . . . I'll have to post my PC's results later.

I love the Speakeasy speed tests. I use check my download speed all the time because my old broadband ISP was hosing me on the speed. Today my tests ran at 1227 kbps (153.4 KB/sec transfer rate) for download and 708 kbps (88.5 KB/sec transfer rate) for upload.

Download Speed: 6728 kbps (841 KB/sec transfer rate)

Time Warner Roadrunner on an all-fiber optic line. Once I take the desktop computer my wife has on loan from work back and hook up the replacement laptop that the insurance sent us (the old one was stolen about two months ago), it may change somewhat.

Earthlink's been a little slow lately, but that download speed for mid-day ain't so bad.

probably not... the computers don't make the difference at all, or at least a negligible one at best.

4810 down
360 up

so i guess that's a total of 5170 internets.

or do you subtract one from the other? 4450 internets then.

that's to the server in NYC, btw... we should all be mentioning which one we picked.

Mine was from Southwest Va to D.C. I did one to San Fran and it was so low. Didnt even break 1000 for DL speed.

What I normally do run all the tests and then the average. I see that as giving a more accurate view (I'm a scientist what can I say). Besides you never know where the sever is located for any random web site you may visit.

i tried like, four or five of the servers, and got pretty much the same thing... from home, that is...

from my job at columbia U, the NYC test resulted in:

Download Speed: 30763 kbps (3845.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 5303 kbps (662.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

and then my pants caught on fire.

seriously, the needle was burried on the download the entire time. they must be connecting to a server on columbia's system for me to get numbers like that. i need to check it at my other job... see what i get there...

although, i tried the chitown server, and got this:

Download Speed: 20397 kbps (2549.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 2706 kbps (338.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

to DC

Download Speed: 32907 kbps (4113.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 5030 kbps (628.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

to seattle

Download Speed: 5485 kbps (685.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 694 kbps (86.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

to atlanta

Download Speed: 28543 kbps (3567.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 3608 kbps (451 KB/sec transfer rate)
