You pick winners of the top 25 ranked teams every week. If there is enough interest I might set it up a bit different where you have to include the point spread on who you think would win etc. I'd post the link to sign up (you can have up to 50 people) and anybody from SSG could join. It would run from Sep 3 - Nov 30th.

Thoughts? Interest? etc????

Interesting. I do pick'ems with NFL each week. College would be more of a challenge but I'd definitely be up for it. Just show me where to sign.

Not sure if I'd be a fan of the point spread though.

I do College Pick-ems and Survivor NFL. The college Pick-ems is always a fun time, the hard part is I usually foget one week every season and it kills me.

I'd be game for it, though the less work the better so I'm more for staright picks then point spread, but I'm willing to try.

I'm not totally sold on the point spread thing myself, although I'd prefer straight up picks I thought having the spread as a factor could make it a bit more interesting. If enough people say no to the spread then I won't add it.

Ok I set up a league with Yahoo.

Up to 50 teams, the spread is in play and you throw out the lowest score from 1 week (you pick for 12 weeks the winners of the top 25). Winners need to be set 5 min. before the first game of the week. I can always change the settings if there is enough interest.

Yea, point spread killed me too although I am glad to be one of two who picked BC to upset Clemson (the other was DQ). Syrcause almost pulled out the upset too in OT, which I called. Too bad they didn't win or I'd really be bragging. :D

I added the point spread because I thought it would add another dimension to the league. I had never been in a group before where you have to factor in the point spread, I thought it would be more interesting then ranking the games.

If you pick the underdog to win, do they have to cover the spread for you to get a point? Or if you pick them to upset, you get the point regardless of the score/spread?

OK, when does OSU's real schedule start?! Don't most Big 10 teams play two warm-up games?! Bowling freakin' Green?! Gimme a break. I could be ranked #1 with their schedule:rolleyes:.

Nov. 18th vs. U of Michigan should be a good game.

CaptainSolo1138
10-02-2006, 03:16 PM
But until then, their schedule is:
10/7 Bowling Green (Unranked)
10/14 Michigan State (Unranked)
10/21 Indiana (Unranked)
10/28 Minnesota ( Unranked)
11/4 Illinois (Unranked. Does anyone else see a trend developing?)
11/11 Northwestern (Unranked)

Finally, they get (currently) #6 Michigan. How can they be ranked number one? This reminds of the scene in Billy Madison where Billy gets to 4th grade and is dominating the little kids at basketball. Michigan has he same record AND they beat what was the #2 school in the country. Why are they still #6? Now tell me that the BCS isn't a popularity contest.

I understand that being in the Big 10 makes OSU the big fish in the small pond, but what about teams that play REAL opponents week in and week out?

JimJamBonds
10-02-2006, 11:34 PM
I'll give OSU SOME credit for playing Texas but the rest of there non conference scheldue was a bunch of cupcakes.

Slicker
10-03-2006, 03:59 AM
And on the Texas note, why are they ranked so high? They've had one game that I know of against a ranked opponent and they lost. I realize that Sam Houston St. can be a potential season breaker but Texas managed to survive that close one. It's all a popularity contest.

Kidhuman
10-03-2006, 06:13 AM

This is a college football thread, so I figured that the following story belonged in here:

U. of Miami player Pata killed, officials say

TIM REYNOLDS / Associated Press

University of Miami defensive end Bryan Pata was shot and killed Tuesday night, shortly after leaving the practice field, school officials said.

The circumstances around Pata's death were not immediately clear, and Miami-Dade police have not released specific information about what happened. A formal announcement was expected from the university later Tuesday.

"Right now, we're just gathering ourselves and just trying to pull ourselves together," Miami athletic director Paul Dee said.

Pata, a graduate of Miami Central, was in his fourth year with the Hurricanes. He appeared in 41 games, making 23 starts, and was expected to be selected in next spring's NFL draft.

It was the second incident involving guns this season for the Hurricanes.

In July, reserve safety Willie Cooper was shot in the buttocks when confronted in his yard before an early morning workout. Cooper was not seriously injured.

Brandon Meriweather, one of Cooper's teammates and roommates, returned fire at Cooper's assailant, taking three shots that apparently missed, police said.

Several Miami players, including Pata, said that incident was a robbery attempt, and cautioned other teammates to always be aware of their surroundings. "We're targets because we play for the University of Miami. ... These guys, they know who we are," Miami linebacker Jon Beason said shortly after the Cooper shooting. That incident prompted Miami coach Larry Coker to say that he did not want his players to have guns, even if they were possessing them legally.
