I didn't see this thread started yet. Anyone know the details on this item yet? UK exclusive? Needless to say, I have to have it.

The last one around here closed up many years ago...wait, I'm thinking of Montgomery Ward - we didn't even have a Woolworth's here (that I am aware of? JimJam might know).

Oh well, I'm off to eBay to buy one for $50. lol lol lol

I thought they closed, too. But a quick search for Woolworths show that they are still open in the UK & Australia.

Nothing new here. This is the type of thing that made me happy to give up carded figures.

Yeah, the more I looked at it, the more I realized it's nearly identical to the US release. Just seems to have a different "age" indicator in the upper right hand corner.

and it is missing the insert where the blister is still raised. lol

Eh, it's just something special for the Brits. I can easily pass on this guy as I've had him for two years already.

The company is called The Venator Group in the US, unless it changed since I worked there a few years ago. It owns Woolworths, Foot Locker (and its spinoffs), Champs Sports, and a few others (I want to say San Francisco Music Box Company, Yankee Candle, and Bath & Body Works, but I'm not 100% sure). Shortly after I quit (it was a part-time job when I first moved to VA), they started converting all the Woolworths stores to huge-arse Champs and Foot Locker stores. Sensible? I never saw the logic.

The F. W. Woolworth Company (often referred to as "Woolworth's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woolworth%27s)") was a retail company that was one of the original American (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) five-and-dime stores (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_and_dime). The first Woolworth's store was founded in 1878 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1878) by Frank Winfield Woolworth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Woolworth). Despite growing to be one of the largest retail chains in the world through most of the 20th century, competition led to a decline beginning in the 1980s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1980s). In 1997 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1997), F. W. Woolworth Company converted itself into a sporting retailer, closing its remaining retail stores operating under the "Woolworth's" brand name (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brand_name) and renaming itself Venator Group. By 2001, the firm focused exclusively into the sporting goods market, changing its name to the present Foot Locker Inc (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foot_Locker_Inc) (NYSE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Stock_Exchange): FL (http://www.nyse.com/about/listed/lcddata.html?ticker=FL)). Chains using the Woolworth name survive in the United Kingdom, Germany, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

This was plaigerized from Wikipedia.

I have a "Woolies" near where I work, so visit regularly. The SW section is tiny - a small shelf-full if we're lucky. I've not yet seen this, nor have I ever seen any VOTC figures in any branch of Woolies.

Haven't been in one of these stores in years. Woolworths and G.C. Murphy were pretty good about getting in new SW figs back during the vintage days. I think I saw my first ESB figs at Murphy's.

So what's Hasbro's next exclusive holder gonna be... Woolco? Zayre? Montgomery Ward? Why fellows, you'd better fill up the ol' jalopy with petroleum distolate and revulcanize your tires poste haste and head out bright and early for the local five and dime.

What does the cardback look like?

Is it the same as the VOTC release or different?

Its almost the same thing as the US release. If the cardback was different (SW or ROTJ), I'd go after it.

Exactly. Still, a great bonus for collectors in the UK and Downunder.

So would I. What I was actually curious of is what is on the actual backside of the card. VOTC Darth shows pictures of the other ESB VOTC figures, wonder if this one is at all different.

The Woolworths on the Vader card is a UK chain unrelated to the defunct US "F.W. Woolworth" stores.

"And stay out of the Woolsworth!"

The whole chain or just the one branch?

Check this out, Yodasnews.com has some pics posted of a few items for 07 and this is one of them. Something doesn't seen right. Since when did WoolWorths get an exclusive?lol Looks cheap without the insert. Looks like the only important difference from the VOTC version is the color behind Vader.

Well damn it, was it in these threads? I know a lot of us don't always view SSG's front page, so that's how I missed it. Any info on it Steve?

I've not seen these yet, and doubt I ever will.... for weeks now, the SW section in my local Woolies has had nothing but a couple of lightsabres and several Boba Fett Choppers.

Just to note, their image is actually from SSG with the watermark removed... Being a graphic designer, I can easily tell. sigh...
To be honest Steve I don't really think about it. I have the forums book marked, not the home page. The reason I book marked the forums instead of the home page is because for a while there was no news. It was either the same as other sites, or nothing worth reading.

I've just seen a poster in Woolworth's window advertising the exclusive Vader figure - free with any SW purchase over 10 (value 7.99). Unfortunately there were none on the shelves to look at - I guess they're being kept back to give out with the new dvds. Apart from the dvds, the only other product are choppers, lightsabres and transformers, so it doesn't look like I'll be getting one. But if anyone is desperate to get one, I can ask if I can buy one for 7.99.
