You cant count preseason games as your starters do not play the whole game in football.

Back to the Bears, i wont be able to catch much of the game, i dont get off of work until 10.

Don't worry, I was at work, and I left at half time with the Bears down 20 - 0
and they are being shown up on both sides of the ball. When I left, they only had two first downs in the entire half.

You'd think it was Rex Grossman that was the rookie QB!

i'm not sure who i want to win...i hate Leinart with a passion and yet i need the Bears Defense to give up even more points so i can win a fantasy football game and i also need more field goals from Gould to win another game.

I can if I want to. Just because their starters aren't in there doesn't mean you can't count the game for a complete undefeated season. Makes it more interesting that way.:p

What a fourth quarter! I came home to see the score was 23-10 in favor of Arizona and then the magic began. Holy cow, that was probably one of the most exciting quarters ive ever seen (at least, from the viewpoint of a Bears fan) in any type of football. That final field goal attempt by Arizona had me sweating like no other, but it went wide and i about screamed my head off. Im proud of the defense, they were able to overcome 6 turnovers and a offense that took the day off to pull out the win. Grossman owes them guys a nice dinner when theyre back in Chicago. Im sleeping good tonight.

unfrakinbelievable!

did you know that the new Cardinals stadium is built on top of a Native American burial site? (no, i don't actually know that...just making stuff up!)

sure it was easy last year for Rackers because all of those games were meaningless and they weren't in position to win any of them.

i can't believe i was pulling for Leinart (see all my previous negative posts about him and other trojans) to win...

Luuuuuuke

Rackers just choked. Plain and simple. But so did Dennis Green. All those friggin conservative calls all game long. The Cardinals should have been up at least 28 points by halftime, but Green or the offensive coordinator insisted on running the ball on predictable downs, and even on some third downs.

It's like he didn't really, really have faith in Leinart. Let the guy throw on second down for chrissake! Especially when Edge is running for 1-2 yards literally every time he touches the ball.

I could not believe Green had James run on 3rd and 1 on that last drive. For God's sake, hold on to your gonads and do something different!!!! Throw a 4 yard pass or something, get closer to the goal line. Anything!!! This is the Cardinals, you just knew asking Rackers to make a 40 yard field goal was going to be too much to ask. Just because it's the Cardinals.

You could tell Leinart was a little ****ed during the post-game press conference about some of the playcalling. He said he wanted to pass on some of the downs when they ran.

Did you see Green's post-game press conference? Man, he was hot. Dropping the F bomb and whatnot. Crazy stuff. I only saw a clip but would love to see the whole thing, although I have a feeling it didn't last very long with him leaving early and very ticked off.

Green should be angry at himself too. Apparently Edgerrin James broke some bad record: the most carries with the least yards. Unbelievable. But Green kept running him into a rushing defense that EVERY SINGLE time was not giving much more than a yard.

On that last 3rd and 1 I was hoping they'd let Leinart pass, or even run a bootleg. Who'd expect that?

I'm not a Cards fan but I'm an L.A. college football fan so I'm following Leinart, Bush and Maurice Jones-Drew.

 for Maurice Jones-Drew

boo for Leinart and $aint Reggie

let's see, Edge carried the ball a whooping 36 times for a measly 55 yards for an average of 1.5 yards. meanwhile, Anquan Boldin caught the ball 12 times for 136 yards. you'd think they could've run one of those Steve Smith WR screen plays on that 3rd and 1.

The jets play that damn prevent defense in the 4th quarter. It doesn't stop anything, I have no clue why coach Mangina wants to keep using it.
And a win is a win. thank you sir :)

Basically what Dennis Green did was pull a classic case of the Herm Edwards school of coaching. He got conservative, ran the same plays over and over again against a good defense, and then put the team in a position to lose and they did. Leinart was throwing pretty well all night, and they still resort to running Edge for like a yard or two a carry at most. Totally unacceptable. I wouldn't totally blame Rackers for that loss last night. The blame can go around, starting with Herm, I mean Dennis Green.

I can't believe it's not butter!

Really though, I am mad at myself for turning off the game after that interception by Grossman was returned for a touchdown, but then called back because the Cardinals player had his kneee hit the ground, and I missed the best quarter of the whole freaking game. The Bears should have lost this game. I turn the game back on just before Rackers attempted field goal, and I saw the score and just about messed my drawers. Then God must have pushed that ball to the left, because the game should have been the Bears first loss. The offense looked like garbage, and the defense was getting killed on the opening cardinals drive.

However, as a Bears fan, I am happy! And to my brother, Dan, up in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, you can BITE ME! Look at the scoreboard this morning my Packer fan brother of mine!

(CBS 13 / AP) WASHINGTON A Web site is claiming that seven NFL football stadiums will be hit with radiological dirty bombs this weekend, but the government on Wednesday expressed doubts about the threat.

The threat, posted Oct. 12, was part of an ongoing Internet conversation titled "New Attack on America Be Afraid." It mentioned NFL stadiums in New York, Miami, Atlanta, Seattle, Houston, Oakland and Cleveland, where games are scheduled to be held this weekend.

The Homeland Security Department alerted authorities and stadium owners in those cities, as well as the NFL, of the Web message but said the threat was being viewed "with strong skepticism." Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke said there was no intelligence that indicated such an attack was imminent, and that the alert was "out of an abundance of caution."

"The department strongly encourages the public to continue to go about their plans, including attending events that involve large public gatherings such as football games," Knocke said.

The FBI also expressed doubt about the threat.

The plot thickens!!

WASHINGTON - The FBI interviewed a Milwaukee resident Thursday believed to be responsible for posting on a Web site what officials think are phony threats about radiological dirty bomb attacks on NFL football stadiums this weekend.
The person, described only as a young adult, did not appear to have any ties to terrorist groups, according to a Washington law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation was ongoing.
In Milwaukee, FBI spokesman Richard K. Ruminski said the "individual has come forward and provided information about the posting of the threat against the NFL stadiums. The U.S. government still believes this threat is non-credible."
"As this is an ongoing matter, we will not provide any additional information at this time," Ruminski said in a statement.
The threats, which were posted on the Internet site a week ago, were not backed up by intelligence indicating such an attack might be imminent, according to the FBI and the Homeland Security Department.
Homeland Security on Wednesday alerted the NFL and authorities in New York, Miami, Atlanta, Seattle, Houston, Oakland and Cleveland, saying they were acting "out of an abundance of caution."
Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke on Wednesday said the threat was viewed "with strong skepticism." Still, the agency contacted the National Football League, local authorities and stadium owners. Also notified was the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
The online posting, dated Oct. 12, was part of an ongoing conversation titled "New Attack on America Be Afraid." It appeared on a Web site, "The Friend Society," that links to various online forums and off-color cartoons. The site's Internet provider declined to comment.
The message said trucks would deliver radiological bombs to stadiums in New York, Miami, Atlanta, Seattle, Houston, Oakland and Cleveland _ and that al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden would claim responsibility.
A dirty bomb would use conventional explosives to scatter radioactive material. Such a blast probably would not cause many deaths, experts say, but the fear of contamination could spark panic. Land and buildings hit with radioactive particles might be unusable for years.
Authorities traced the site's Internet provider to Voxel Dot Net Inc., which has support and engineering staff based in Troy, N.Y. A man who answered the phone at Voxel Wednesday declined to give his name, said he was unaware of the posted threat and refused further comment.
The author of the threats, posted at 9:31 p.m. EDT on Oct. 12, identified himself online as "javness."

That last game is the only one of those that I picked correctly.

Houston knocked out four of us in the Survival league I'm in. Six of seven were still alive, but that took care of four of us, while Minnesota took care of another. The remaining person has the Giants on Monday.

I want to make 2 points...

First of all the Jets played a horrible game today. The only bright spot was the Justin Miller kickoff return for a td. Without that play we are not even in the game at all. Having said that, let me repeat: the Jets played a horrible game today.

Second, the Jets were 100% robbed on the "non-td" ruling on the field. For any of you who did not see this, our TE Chris Baker caught a ball in the far right bottom corner of the end zone, near the pylon. He made a one-handed grab and then came down with it then was pushed out of bounds. The play was shown several times on tv and it was clear that it was a td.....however the officials said it was NOT a td. Being that this play happened with about 20 seconds left, if there was to be any review it would have to come from the booth. The replay staff did not even bother, and the referrees made a "judgement call" not to even bother. Coach Mangini used a timeout to try and get someone to look, but to no avail.

Yeah, im mad as hell about it, but the bottom line is if the Jets had played a solid game through 4 quarters it would not have come down to that one play.

I was upset that FOX in this area didnt show the Bears vs 49ers, but instead they went with the Seahawks and Chiefs. Da Bears ran them over, and thats about the nicest way it can be said.

I watched the first quarter of the Colts and Broncos game, but after that i kicked on the Playstation 2 instead, seemed like it would be much more entertaining instead.

Having no love for the Steelers, im glad to see them lose, to the Raiders no less. Big Ben hype? Burn, baby, burn.

are you guys kidding? the horses vs. horseshoes game was a great game to watch. Peyton has really shown a killer instinct this season in that if you show an inability to cover any of his receivers, he'll keep exploiting that time and time again. today it was Wayne, last week i remember he kept looking in Harrison's direction.

if i were a steelers fan i'd be likening Cowher sending Slothlisberger out there a week after having a concussion to Coach Edwards trotting Pennington out there despite extensive shoulder damage. are you trying to kill the kid, Cowher? it's not like you don't have an adequate backup either.

FB, I wasn't saying it in a joking manner...I was pointing out that despite a horrible performance and a quarterback rating of probably 2 he still managed to come out as the winning qb.

It would have been pretty cool if the Panthers would have made that 65-yard field goal at the end of the first half. Too bad they didn't have a better breeze behind them.

Seahawks got the breaks they needed to stay in the game, but couldn't quite do it. Seneca Wallace seems to have the talent and is more mobile than Hasselbeck. He just needs some more experience.

And he didn't have Shaun Alexander in the backfield. 29 yards from the other 2 running backs didn't help Wallace much.

In their bye week, the Bills have changed around their offensive line. Now, opposing defenders will run by some different guys on their way to forcing Losman to fumble.

I think this year's Raiders are perhaps the worst team in NFL history. They are just atrocious...Andrew Walter got sacked 7 times before the end of the first half. Three of those sacks came on consecutive plays.
Then there was the count that he messed up and his center snapped the ball to him while he was not lined up...caused the ball to go about 8 yards behind them.
Art Shell looks totally clueless. When I see him on the sidelines I see a poor soul who does not know where he is, what he is doing, or what is going on. For all the stupidity and bad decision I bash Herm about, at least he has some emotion. Shell looks like a friggin' zombie out there.
This team is a train wreck. They are easily in '76 Buccaneers and Oilers territory.

Could be worse...could be the Cardinals. Either way, the cancer starts at ownership, and the ineptness creeps to the coaches who just are using systems and methods that haven't adapted to the changes.

Case in point, Joe Montana and Steve Young both say the Atlanta Falcons are running "their" offense. This time, the difference is the option handoff is being run with a counter action from the shotgun as opposed to off tackle from under center. The other difference, one QB can run for 10 yards out of the pocket as opposed to hit the TE/posession receiver for 12 yards (and the other 2 have decidingly better completion %'s too). The same scheme can work from yesteryear if applied with the right personel, in the right situations. You don't do 7 step drops when there's 2 DEs who were pro-bowlers or considered all pros.

the bears ARE who we thought they were!

you just cannot win on defense alone and the offense seems to struggle as Grossman struggles. ideally they should be a ball control offense but Grossman seems to want to take too many downfield chances and if he doesn't connect early and often, his confidence seems to get really shot.

Ok, this just happened to **** me off while watching the games I was forced to view this week (Packers and Vikings...mediacroity breeds parity). So the color guy is Brian Baldinger, who during this broadcast made maden into a Nobel laureate!

Let's start with just the football things...
Claimed that good teams find ways to win and bad teams ways to lose over and over. Neither of these teams is either, so move on Baldie.
Fox decided that when they got the NFL in the 90s, that they'd mold all their color guys after Madden. Matt Millen, who should've never left the booth and conned the Ford Family, was Madden light. Than Bill Maas was Millen Light. Baldinger became Maas light. Now that Aikmen is the lead color guy, redo the model, lose the clones of the clones of the clones. Either go with all ex-Cowboys (Moose Johnson is at least tolerable) or ex-QBs because the defenisve lineman thing isn't working.
Kept marveling at the mechanics of Favre as textbook. I've never heard any one describe him as that. If anything, I believe the example is outside of winning (in the past), don't emmulate this man.
Kept talking on an on about the great running game of both teams. If I recall both teams rushed for under 100 yards on the day.Non Football things
Claimed Greenbay to Minneapolis was a short drive. Ummm, isn't it like 6+ hours? I know Milwaukee to the Twin Cities is ~5 hours. Short to me imiplies my *** won't go numb nor should I need to buy gas on the way.
Wished all those serving in Iraq and Afghanistan a happy vetran's day. Ummm, still active duty. They're not vetrans yet, (combat vetrans maybe, but anyways). And if they fall in combat, they're still not vetrans. They're fallen service men and they are paid tribute on Memorial day.
Kept commenting on guys with mustaches who looked like Minnesota's coach.Off of dumb-*** and on to other things...Bears coaches scheme to give them the best success. The only thing they could do more is to consistently get the same level performance from all phases of the game for 4 quarters. Football hyperbole, but still is a typical halmark of a superbowl team on a given year.

Indianapolis may be a team of destiny. They may go 16-0. They find a way to win, and if they have 30 seconds, and less than 100 yards to go with the ball, your chances of victory are only 25%.

Belichek has to get whatever it is out of his ***. Your boy didn't want to stick around and learn and decided to take the money and oppurtunity at being a head coach. Just because you don't like the owners and GM and passed on the job earlier, get over it. Even Mike Shanahan has mellowed somewhat with regards to Al Davis and the Raiders.

Ummm, Show me your lightinging BOLTS!!!! Could the AFC title game be Indy/SD and put up something like 1500 yards of offense, and score 115+ total points?

I take it from what I have listened to on both the TV and the radio, that the Bears will be playing at that same exact stadium. I feel stupid for not knowing that the Jets and the Giants shared the same stadium.

I like seeing pictures of when the Bears played at Wrigley Field.

They will choke again in the playoffs like Manning.

What if it's the Bears and Colts in the Super Bowl ? I'd love to see that game, it would be a good matchup...not sure if I could accurately predict which team would do a better job of choking though. I mean, they're both so good at that.

I bet those teams would figure out a way to end a Super Bowl in a Tie. lol

Belly is a scumbag, plain and simple. When Bill Parcells recommended him to coach the Jets, he took the job for one day and then retired...of course he did this after Leon Hess gave him a million dollars to do it. As soon as that money hit his bank account he hit the road.
Crennel and Weiss both left for better jobs, and now so has Mangini. The thing that ****es Belly off about Mangini coming to the Jets is that well its the Jets and also that its a divisional rival.

Like I said earlier, its a great weekend to be a Jets fan...the Pats lost a 2nd consecutive game and are on the ropes..Belly realizes he was out coached by his protege yesterday, and the AFC East is ripe for the taking.

this thread has had countless posts about how madden can ruin a telecast, but has anyone actually sat and listened to the innane banter of kornheiser and theisman. i'm pretty sure the average preschooler could do a better job. since the bucs were playing (or more accurately they were just out on the field) i actually watched a monday nite game. no wonder espn sunday nite games got such horrible reviews (that and the totally lackluster teams they seemed to feature). give me a sunday nite game with madden and his doodlings all over the screen any week.

Darth Jax, I totally agree with you about the commentating on ESPN. Tirico is ok, but Theisman and Kornheiser do not belong in that booth. Kornheiser is great for his show PTI, but his style does not fit play-by-play. Theisman just blows hot air all over the place and after about 2 seconds its already old.

And hey FB, don't worry about being 5-5...At least its .500 and you don't have former bed and breakfast owners helping you coach. :)

i don't have cable either so i went to the bar to see the game. that's a normal routine for me, cuz tampa is never the nationally televised game. this was the first game i'd heard kornheiser do. i was familiar with the lack of quality in theisman's work from his days with maguire (who was equally bad).

listening to madden is like talking with my grandparents. they try, but end up making the same observations and telling me the same stories everytime. There's really only so many stories to tell, and they probably told them all in the long pregame shows that they have now. Plus, the commentators sound pretty original compared to what the athletes say. It's always the same clichéd responses.

I guess I've not listened to Madden enough in recent years to really notice all this or have a problem with him. I've always enjoyed games with him as a commentator though. Then again, I also enjoyed listening to Howard Cosell, while my dad and an uncle couldn't stand him.

I get the NFL Network, but it's going to be moved into a tier that I don't have starting December 14. That's the same day the Seahawks will be playing, but I think they will make the game available on a local channel. The last Monday night game they played was on another channel besides ESPN, and I think Monday's game against Green Bay will be as well.

Yesterday was the first Thanksgiving that I can remember where I didn't watch any football at all. I didn't think to turn on the early game before I went to my parents house. We didn't have the TV on at all when we were there. I got home about the time the KC-Denver game was over.

Bears offense played poor throughout the game against New England. Even then, they were a drive down the field away from winning. With a little under two minutes left, Grossman didnt need to throw so far down the field. He could have worked the sidelines instead. Once it was picked, game over. Grossmans is losing fans real quick, his fumble in the red zone was costly too. The defense played well for the most part, and in my opinion held up their end of the game, forcing turnovers and whatnot. But the offense just wasnt there, and you know that when the biggest offensive plays come from penalties. Im still a believer in the team though, New England was just a bit luckier today.

Yea....... It was a sad game to watch. They played real sloppy. They had a ton of opportunities to make some points but fell short through careless mistakes. It was a tough fight and they played hard but if they would have had their game sewn up then they would have won.

Not that it really mattered to the outcome of the game, but did anyone see the footage of one of the Pats trying to nudgekick the ball a few inches just before it was measured. I don't think I have ever seen a team like the Pats play so dirty. you want real "haterade"? here it is!

Is it time for $aint Reggie to be officially labeled a bust? his team is 7-4 and yet his contributions have been scant. 331 rushing yards and 1 td, 64 receptions for 431 yards, no TD's. 2 fumbles. that's not what you expect from the 2nd player drafted overall, now is it? now you could say that opposing teams are game planning to stop him and so he's just playing a decoy role. fine, but by this point in the season, the Saints have established themselves as a pass first team as evidenced by Brees' weekly 6000 yard passing days. by now opposing defenses should have adjusted to stop the pass and not focus so much on Bush.

you could also argue that he's sharing carries with McAllister and so naturally his production should suffer. as i argued before the season, Mr. Bush ain't an every down back and he needs to get the ball out in open space to do damage. so why hasn't it happened? why only 1 td to this point? could it be that NFL defenses are a quantum leap above Pac 10 defenses (as a fan of a pac 10 school, the answer is heck yeah) and so the open spaces that reggie was used to just aren't there or they close up with in a matter of seconds.

anyhow, here's good news for Raider Fan, the bed and breakfast owner has been replaced!

Reggie is going to have a good career, but I can name you a few rookie running backs better than him right now:

Lawrence Maroney
Maurice Jones-Drew
Joseph Addai
Leon Washington

I even think Deangelo Williams could be considered had he not suffered an injury earlier in the season.

I will say this about Reggie...going into this year's draft I did not think he had the body size for a successful NFL rb. His speed and running style made him what he was at USC, but as we are now witnessing this year in the NFL its a totally different game. Like I said, I think he will have a good career. I think he will play better the longer he is in the league and adjusts to the differences. I do NOT think he will be an every down back (I agree with you FB!!) but still when he is on the field defenses plan around him. Whether you like him or not, that is a good thing to have on your side if you want to run a successful offense.

I'd hardly call Bush a bust at this point either. Tied for 4th in the league in receptions, and he also has a punt return TD. The Saints were 3-13 last year, 7-4 so far this year. Many number one picks have faired far worse. He may not ever be the type of running back that you just hand-off to 20 or 30 times a game, but he doesn't have to do that to make an impact. Plus, having Deuce on the team who has been that steady type of back means that Bush doesn't have to try to fit into that role right away anyway.

ha, well to be honest, i'm quite surprised by the success that he's having...if you would've asked me before the season, i would've told you he'd be a good 3rd down back. even though he's small, he's well built and has a low center of gravity and so he's tough to bring down but just like i said with $aint Reggie, it's one thing to do it against the teams of the Porous Pac 10, quite another to do it in the NFL.

or to put it another way, as a collector of bruin autographs (heck, i even have tommy maddox) i didn't think it was be this tough to collect his autos but i get outbid on ebay time and time again for his cards.

Bryant Gumbel is an awful commentator. He's messed up at least 5 times so far tonight. I'm seriously considering Muting my tv so I don't have to listen to him. Has anyone else noticed how often he messes up? or is it just me?

He needs to be replaced.

He's bad but Collinsworth is great.

Bryant Gumbel is an awful commentator.

Means you have to be one of the 10 people with NFL Network, lucky bastard. Beyond that, if Gumbel is the commentator, than Collinsworth is the play by play? If so, yeah he'd need to be replaced. No matter what they can't be worse than Fox's Baldinger, Sarigussa, or any of their other Matt Millen is Madden Light, Bill Maas is Matt Millen Light, Baldinger etc are Maas-lights. Let's not even touch CBS' C and D teams, because well trying to make the Raiders v Texans watchable is only for those degenerate gamblers. Course, monkeys throwing feces would gather more discourse and interest in the game than anything after the top games on any network.

I've had the game on since halftime, but haven't really been paying attention. Gumbel just sounds kind of bland is all. I liked him years ago when he hosted the NBC pre-game show. Now, it just sounds like he is back on the Today show or something. Collinsworth is all right.

Gumble sucks. I put the tv on mute and spin some tunes.

I put my comments on Bryant Gumbel in the wrong thread last week. He is horrible. He doesn't know formations and takes long pauses because he doesn't know the players. I didn't see the game tonight, but last week he said "so-and-so" is the lone back, but there was a full back and a halfback in the backfield.

Tonight he asked Collinsworth...Why do the fans cheer when their team challenges a ruling?
Well lets see...because in those instances (where the team feels the ref gave them a bad spot) a coach has to challenge if he thinks its a bad call.
What a moron.

Maybe they should try the experiment they did back in the early 80's. I think it was a game between the Dolphins and the Jets where they had no announcers at all.
