View Full Version : How many Vaders are there?

So, who can riddle me this: how many Vader sculpts are there? How many different Vader cards are there? For that matter, how many Lukes? Hans? R2-D2s?

I have virtually every figure, but, most are in boxes (apparently, my wife felt it was more important to have a nursery for the babies than it was to have a Star Wars room...hmmmph), so I can't get a count. But, I figure that 1) either someone has all their figures out and can get a count, or 2) someone's already done that...

Anyways, just curious. Afterall, how many more Darth Vaders can they make?

There are more than one Billion Darth Vaders... ...no it's true, Hasbro and McDonalds are the only one's who can make the big "B" claim, they have sold more than one billion Darth Vaders world wide! LOL ok I'm JK

Seriously though it's all relative. In this hobby it's impossible to count, don't believe me....here are some examples...

Vintage carded?
Foreign Vintage carded?
Vintage Vacu-pack?
Vintage Two packs?
Variations?
Salesman samples?

All those and it was just 1 sculpt, unless you count the foreign Takara sculpt, and of course the bootlegs. But bootlegs would be impossible to count, unless you only counted major bootlegs.

Do you really want to get into the modern line?

Well, let's give it a shot.

Card Variations?
Foreign cards?
Errors?
Various packaging (not carded) such as the Evolutions packs?
Holo pack-in from the new SAGA 2 line?

Did you want to count per-suit Darth Vader from EPIII in the mix.

I think you get the idea.

Anyway, there are LOTS of Vaders. One could go crazy collecting them all and hunting down every variation, foreign card, etc. not to mention going broke doing so.:D

But it would be fun.

Now if you want to put in a few parameters, I will try again, but honestly vintage alone had dozens of different language cards, so it could take a while and as good as I am, I'm not that good. Even I know my limitations.;)

Errrrrrrrr... gee, I guess I hadn't thought that much about it. But, if it's parameters you want, then parameters I shall give you.

Let's go with this:

All the Vaders (and, if you;re feeling froggy, any and all major characters) that have been produced since the mid 90's Kenner/Hasbro's POTF line, 3 3/4 - 4 inch figures, including, but not limited to carded, playsets (ie, that Death Star globe thingie), vehicles (I know he came w/ his TIE) and anything else. No need to worry about tri logo cards or Japanese super deformed or Vader pens or Vader shampoos. Basically, how many "classic size" Darth Vaders over the past 11 years or so sold here in the U.S...?

(am I making any sense here?)

Once again, thanks,
An OCD collector,

Just loose 4" molds - new or variations - there have been card crazinesses beyond imagination, and I'm not counting accessory variances like long saber/short saber...

2 Kenner vintage Vaders (1 double-telescoping saber, 1 single-saber)
11 POTF2 Vaders ('95, '95 4pack vintage repro, '96 SOTE 2pack, '97 Cinema Scene, '97 Power FX, '98 Removable Helmet, '98 Flashback, '98 Complete Galaxy, '98 Gunner Station, '98 Escape the Death Star boardgame, '99 Commtech)
5 POTJ Vaders (Dagobah, Emperor's Wrath, Masters of the Dark Side 2pack, Mexican Figure Collection 4pack, 25th Anniversary 2pack)
3 Saga Vaders (Bespin Duel, Throne Room Duel, Imperial Forces multipack {slightly remolded from POTJ Emp Wrath}, {not counting Toy Fair Vader since he's just a chrome version of the POTF2 Cinema Scene one})
3 OTC Vaders (500th, TRU Silver, VOTC, {I don't believe the one with the Vader's TIE Advanced was new in any way, so not counting})
8 ROTS Vaders (#11 Lightsaber Attack, deluxe Anakin-to-Vader, deluxe Vader with operating table, Celebration 3 Vader, Evolutions Vader, Rebel vs Empire Battle Pack, Mustafar Playset Anakin-as-Vader {not in Vader costume but counted}, Jedi Temple Assault Vader {really #2 Anakin renamed Vader in this set}, {not counting Target Lava Vader since it's the same POTF2 Cinema Scene mold again}
2 TSC Vaders (#038 Bespin Confession {slight remold of 500th Vader}, #045 Battle of Endor {remold of POTJ Emperor's Wrath Vader})
2 30thAC Vaders (ANH Collector's Tin, ROTJ Collector's Tin)For a total of 36 Vader figures that are new or remolded.

I'm counting only products out now, I can't tell if the other 30th Anniversary Collection ones are new or not, I am fairly confident the one with the coin book is not but I know the tin ones ARE remolds and are out now so I mentioned 'em.

Very impressive SK99 and JediTricks...

I knew there were a lot, but not quite that many!! If there are that many Vaders, just imagine how many Lukes or ObiWans there must be

So, you know, if anyone else feels like tackling another character or two, please do. Like I said, it's not due to laziness (or soccer twice a week, or cub scouts, or the 3 hour commutes) that I have not taken this on myself; just all my toys are packed up at the moment (I'm not too old for toys, am I?? naaaaah)....

THanks again...

An addition to Sith Killers list

ROTS Vader (ROTS press kit from Toy Fair) the one that when you open it the Anakin rotated around and the Vader was displayed. This is probably one of the coolest packaging designs but technically never "release" since it was not for the public.

Are you counting only Vader in armor, or Episode III Anakin as well?

BTW, JT are you counting the vintage Takara sculpt? No, I forgot about that one, I only tend to think of North American releases.

You kinda fudged on your list, you mentioned:
17. SAGA Darth Vader Hall of Fame (Throne Room Duel re-pack)
18. SAGA Darth Vader (Imperial Forces pack)
20. OTC Darth Vader (Throne Room re-pack)

But those are the exact same figure as 14. POTJ Darth Vader (Masters of the Darkside), if you're going to mention the same figures on different cards, you have to mention POTF2 Vader on Green Card, on Freeze Frame card, POTF2 Vader (SOTE) Green Card, and POTC (Post OTC) Vader. :p

I knew there were a lot, but not quite that many!! If there are that many Vaders, just imagine how many Lukes or ObiWans there must beActually, although POTF2 had a bunch of Lukes, when the Vaders started kicking in, the Lukes started slowing down, I bet they're now neck-and-neck even though Luke appears in half a dozen different outfits while Vader's just got the 1 with slight changes.

Obi-Wan sadly gets no love at all, very few figures.

I counted any figures listed by Hasbro as "Darth Vader" the ones without armor say NO ARMOR ANAKIN/VADER. Meaning that the figure looks like Hayden, but was tagged "Darth Vader". For example the Target Exclusive "Mustafar Darth Vader" looked like Anakin.

Does that make sense. I think I even confused myself.:D

There's too many Vaders. I stopped at the Evolutions figure. Hard to top that one.
