View Full Version : Display Order

I have nearly every vintage figure. I am missing a few weapons, some variations, and Yak Face. I am going to display them on my wall. I am wondering what order to put them in. So I ask you fellow collectors, what order do you or would you put them in?

I have a few ideas:
the order they were released as Rebel Scum lists them
basically the order on a POTF back with some modifications
like the poster that is on Gus Lopez's site that shows all of the figures

Or some other idea. Let me know what you all think.

I'd personally go with the order they were released in.

I would line em up in size orders from smallest to largest, oh wait, the are all basically the same size.

Seriously, I would og in number order from on the back of the last waves cards.

See, now I'm different. I'd display them by character and group. For example, I'd put Lukes with Hans and Leias and Chewie, and R2 and C3PO next to them. Then, any droids would be by those two. Lando would be with Rebels, but also Bespin Guards, Ugnaughts, Lobot, et al.

Vader would be with Imperials (Emperor, Royal Guards, Stormtroopers, et al), but with Anakin that'd put him with Jedi (Kenobi, Yoda) too, which could be the conection with the Rebels group. Aliens, unless connected to a group, can be put anywhere.

It makes perfect sense!

alphabeticallyIn left-to-right order? Single file lines? And what's your view on numbers? Do they go first (2-1B, 8D8, etc.) or do you change the numbers to letters (Two-One-Bee, Ate-Dee-Ate, etc.)? And is C3PO (See-Threepio) a "C" or an "S?" How 'bout if you got Tri-Logo figures with different languages? Not so easy, Mr. one-word-responder, eh DJ? :D

let me elaborate for bcj. since sjd9299 is missing a few weapons i'm assuming this is an opened collection. therefore you'll need to be a little research to get them properly arranged. i'd base the arrangement entirely on the character's given name on the card. Numbers being arranged before letters. I'd go with the first appearance of the character on a card (if released multiple times within the vintage line). example Tusken Raider (Sand People) was originally released as simply Sand People on the SW cards so would be filed under "S." 2-1B was originally released as Too-Onebee (2-1B) so would be filed under "T." Ponda Baba was never named on a card, he was always Walrus Man, so file under "W."

again assuming that it's an opened collection the actual display would vary be what shelving/display space is available. with wider shelves you can stagger figures several rows deep, with smaller shelves they have to be side by side. 4LOM and 8D8 are the only figures that would start with numbers so they'd be farthest left, Zuckuss i believe would be the last figure (farthest right and lowest if multiple shelves are used).

any flaws with my arrangement that you see now, oh great BCJ (besides the obvious intermittent use of the shift key)?

I'd go with a modified POTF setup myself. Kenner knew what they were doing when setting up the shots of the cards. Everybody else is making a fool what of themselves. I've got two photos of the setup I'd in my photo collect (http://photos.sirstevesguide.com/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=821) if you what you take a look.

any flaws with my arrangement that you see now, oh great BCJ (besides the obvious intermittent use of the shift key)?To use your patented one-word method: perfect. Wait, that's 8 (eight? :p ) words. Now it's 13... or is it 16? Ahh!!! :pleased:

BTW, if anyone wants to display their figures By George, it'd be a small display. :o

i'm a big fan of the alphabet. cd's, books, dvd's - all neatly arranged and in order. thankfully i haven't gotten bad enough that i need to have all the cans in my pantry in alphabetic order yet

BY ORDER OF AQUISITION!

If you are getting all of the vintage line as I am, if you can remember the order in which you got your figs (or completed them) you can list them that way. It'll make you remember the fun of finding and getting all of them!!!

:D

I say make little displays for them like the Cantina, Jabba's palace, maybe the Death Star, or Dagobah. group them doing something like have Obi Wan fighting Vader with luke, han, chewie, leia and the droids looking on with the stormies in the foreground. maybe have luke dueling vader with the emperor looking on with a guard and imperial dignitary.
have fun with them.

I think this is a great way to do it!! I am starting a collection and I was wondering how to display them. I think I will go with this. But I think the other way to do it would be like the last cardbacks.

I have mine displayed in order of release on different showcase shelves ...
I have the original 12 with the display stand on top.
Have the next ANH set in the Cantina set with the Landspeeder.
Then have the various series of ESB and ROTJ figure grouped together
Finally have the POTF series standing next to the Jabba playset.

Also have within the above all known variations (ex. yellow and brown hair Luke).

If I had pics handy I would share them.

I run one of those swifer things over them. It gets caught sometimes but not a big deal. The figures are stuck up there with blue poster putty on their feet and all of the weapons are attached this way too, so they will not all off during dusting.

No red caped Bib. He is on the list of things to look for but I really do not expect to find one. There is a DT Luke and Brown hair Luke in the top row though.

If anyone is interested to see what the variations are please let me know. Even the other vintage collectors around here think that my collection is weird.

Thank you for your opinion on this. I do not see how putting them in "Kenner Order" will make it any less boring. I would love to do diorama type set ups but do not have the space. I saw this as the most space efficeint way to display them all. I will probably change it some time just to give it a new look.

I dont have my vintage figures set up, but I did put em in a diorama at work for a comtest though. You can check some of the pics in this thread (http://forums.sirstevesguide.com/showthread.php?t=32243). Also if you would like upload your photos in the database and post the link in that thread as well.

I really hate to burst people's bubbles, but what you're friend found is mostly a fake. There are only a couple of real red caped Bib Fortunas known and all prototypes. I'd say your friend has a better chance of finding a Rocket Fire Fett or a DT Vader before a real red caped Bib Fortuna.

As I said it's simply my opinion. At the end of the day of the only one that matters is your's. If I were in your shoes I'd use my best and/or favorite figures to make a Kenner type display. The extras I'd use in some other type of display or diorama (space pending). But it's your collection and your display, do what makes you the most happy.

This is very true. Check to see if the stiching on the cape is red too or just the material.

It does not really matter to me. The only thing that makes me truly happy is other people liking them. Thats why they are out and not boxed up.
