This is one of my favorite movies of all time. This is exactly how I'd do a major alien invasion movie.

The casting of Will Smith, Bill Pullman, and Jeff Goldblum was perfect.

I loved the fighter plane stuff and the shots of the alien invasion ships coming over our major cities.

This is a movie I watch every so often as I never really ever tire of it.

ID4 is a masterpiece in my opinion. I saw this in the theater a few times, too.

Pretty good stuff.

"Welcome to Earth......... Now that's what I call a Close Encounter !"

love this movie, the effects were great and seeing the people's faces as the ship open fire. I'm just glad that they decided to skip the sequel of this flick. I think the actors did a great job, Pullman's speech at the end of the movie before the last battle always sends chills down my spine.

the comedy of Smith and Goldbloom is great " Oops..... we need to work on our communication." and of course i think my favorite part of the movie is with Judd Hursch "What....You don't really think they $50,00 on a toilet seat, $30,000 on a hammer do you ?"

Yeah, this was great. One of the first summer blockbusters I remember seeing in theaters. Also probably my favorite Will Smith movie. I loved how it was a suspense movie spliced with an action movie. But why has Bill Pullman been in practically nothing since this?

"We will fight for our independence. Not from tyranny, not from a foreign power, but freedom from annihilation! We are fighting for our right to exist!

Let this day be the day be the day when all the people rose up and said we will not go quietly into the night! We're going to make our stand. Today is our Indpendence Day!"

- I skipped some parts and didn't get it exactly right, but it still sounds great. What an inspirational moment for President Whitmore (Pullman). Yeah, great scene!

I also love Jeff Goldblum, "Maybe if we mess up the planet bad enough - they won't want it!"

and who can forget:

"All right you alien @$^#0!$! You've got Russel P. Whatever to deal with now! Payback's a B!#(@! ain't it? In the words of my generation: UP YOURS!"

You're laughing and crying for this guy and his kids all at the same time. A shining moment for that minor character.

You'll probably all find this out of character, but I liked this movie. It was fun. It was a little brainless, but visually stunning. And, when it came out, giant plotless CG explosion-fests were new, so I wasn't tired of them yet.

I'm not looking forward to the carbon-copy sequel coming out on Independence Day 2007.

I loved this movie when I was 17.
Now its one of those movies I'll watch on tv for about 10 minutes if there's a cool part coming up.

That's a snarky reference to aliens from Cybertron, isn't it?

Snarky? Me? Never.

Horrible movie but at least it's the title of a cool Springsteen song.

It's good and has some cool little insights (like the news report asking LA residents to stop shooting their guns at the alien ships lol ). However, after the initial alien attack it just becomes predictable and generic.

ID4 is one of my favorite popcorn movies. Sure, it has a couple of holes (I can't get my laptop to recognize my Wireless router half the time but Goldblum can get his MAC to talk to an alien ship?), but overall, it's a really fun flick. I've always had a thing for Elizabeth Perkins too, which helps. The best thing is that the movie knows what it is and doesn't try to be anything else. Just a solid piece of filmmaking all around.

The fact that Goldblum sucessfully used a MAC makes that movie fraudulant.

All kidding aside, I still watch it if its on TV. Except the boring parts and those that are meant to get some sort of real emotion out of the viewer. The scene I can't bear to watch is when President Pullman hugs his daughter when "Mommy needs to sleep" or whatever the hell he says. Its one of those scenes where you're so embarrassed for the actor and the poor and/over acting of it, it is almost physically painful to watch. Kinda like Jake Lloyd...

I thought it was mean when they shot the nice, gooey alien who only wanted to hug everyone with his tentacles and bring everyone else to their knees with his telepathy. Then they burnt his base ship and everything. That wasn't very nice either.

I cringe every time.

I keep hoping I'll hear Captian Lonestar say "Eagle Five coming in!"

I really hate this movie, probably due to the overdose of cheesiness. It has the distinction of containing the worst St. Crispin's Day speech ever.

Cheasiness is an art form too, though.

Come on! Don't your own day dream fantasies thrive with cliche moments?

In one of mine, I am about to finally kill a very important US political figure with a catapult that flings a by-product from raising cattle (hint). He sees me outside of his office window and grabs a bullhorn (another hint) and shouts, "Wait Tycho! You must know this: I am your father!"

Then I scream, "NNNnnnooooooooOOOOO!!!" and start uncontrollably slapping myself in the face.

I hate President Lonestar's speech.
"Today is our Indepedence Day!"

What a f**king 'tard.

This movie really is terrible...it's worse than The Phantom Menace.

I'll take Jake Lloyd over Judd Hirsch and Harvey Fierstein combined any day. :)
