View Full Version : Zoinks! Scooby-Doo Creator Dies

Iwao Takamoto, the cartoonist who created Scooby-Doo for Hanna-Barberra, died Monday. He was 81.

Takamoto said Scooby-Doo was based loosely on a Great Dane and named for line delivered by Frank Sinatra in one of his movie roles. Takamoto also created other cartoon canines Muttley and Astro, The Jetson's dog; as well as directed the children's favorite Charlotte's Web.

I still love Scooby-Doo today as much as I did plopping down in front of the TV with a snack after school to watch as kid. Thank you very much, Mr. Takamoto, for your wonderful contribution to my childhood.

Thats too bad. Scooby Doo has never been one of my favorites, but i loved seeing how their villains would look, they were cool.

strangers in the night. that's the song where scooby got his name. the part where there's no words but frank goes "doobeedoobeedoooo dedoobeedoodoo doobeedoobeedooo dedoobeedoodoo..." and so on.

Lot of people dropping dead recently. must be something in the air. seems like too many people going all at once.

scooby snacks was a mispelling of doobie snacks. munchies.

I'm surprised he didn't die after he saw what they did with Freddie Prinze and those two feature films.
