View Full Version : QUESTIONS FOR HASBRO - round 24

01-20-2007, 02:17 PM
Please post your VOTE for up to 6 {six} of the questions provided in this thread, letting us know which ones you most want to see asked on Friday, February 2nd. Keep in mind that your votes in round 23 do not count in this round, so if your question is still on the list, you may want to vote for it again.

Also, feel free to post new questions. For reference, here are Hasbro's answers from previous SSG questions (http://www.sirstevesguide.com/index.php?categoryid=13&p2_articleid=76); and from other sites (http://www.sirstevesguide.com/index.php?categoryid=13&p2_articleid=510). And here are the questions we're asking this week:
Just about all modern Jabba the Hutt figures have been based on CGI models of the character which look notably different from the original ROTJ puppet. With the excitement generated by Sideshow's 12" Jabba figure, can we expect to see a Jabba with Throne (dais) of similar quality for the Hasbro 3¾" line?
The only versions of the AT-ST to date have been the ESB Kenner mold, while at first glance it appears to be the same shape as the ROTJ version, in reality the ROTJ version is actually a significantly different design. Understanding that a Return of the Jedi AT-ST would require an all-new mold to be made which likely lessens its chances, is it a vehicle that Hasbro might be considering making at any point in the future?
Given that there are only a limited number of unmade figures and figures that need a serious resculpt, does Hasbro deliberately choose not give some figures up-to-date articulation (like knee articulation, etc - even for figures whose characters spend much of their screen time sitting)? We know and understand the argument for the additional cost factor for better articulation and spreading the cost throughout a wave or year, so that Star Wars is profitable, but we also know Hasbro has the license until 2018 and that a business model of*not* producing every figure as a super-articulated ultimate figure would allow Hasbro to continue for many years with later updates to previous sculpts - even when those sculpts were already at modern quality - by simply adding more articulation (ball-joint knees, elbows, shoulders, etc.) while keeping the rest of the mold the same. Is that at all consideration on Hasbro's part?
Many collectors believe that the recent trend of figures having ball-jointed heads has more flaws than advantages, what with the joint requirements creating heads that appear cut off behind the jaw and below the ears making for a bizarre profile, as well as unrealistically long necks. In some circumstances the ball joint's range of motion can be so limited that it renders the joint all but moot; also, with removable-helmet figures sometimes the head comes off with the helmet. Some examples of problems caused by ball-jointed heads are the Ep IV Commemorative Tin's Sandtrooper, the Evolutions Ep II Anakin figure, and VTSC Luke Pilot. So would it be possible to do away with ball-jointed head articulation and either go back to the traditional swivel neck or come up with something that looks and works better?
Recent high quality sculpts of R2-D2 and C-3PO have been for the most part clean and shiny when generally the droids were dirty and scuffed throughout the original trilogy. Could Hasbro fit in more worn, dulled, and resculpted versions of our droid heroes into the lineup anytime soon, such as Tatooine paintjobs and minor sculpt alterations including sand, restraining bolts and a dented head for Threepio? Modern sculpts of the droid twosome haven't yet been given such a treatment and collectors are still using outdated, inaccurate sculpts for Tatooine scenes and other "weathered droids" scenes.
With basic figures waves, why is it that some waves will show up in such small amounts that there is never a trace of them, yet the next wave shows up soon afterwards in findable quantities? This is also happening with the Titanium Series 3" vehicles waves.Current questions (vote for up to 6):

- What is the status of Playskool's Jedi Force line?

- Having met some of you at SD Comic-Con, where I've been able to talk to you and learn all sorts of things about the struggle involved in making these toys, I wonder if maybe you'd consider sharing a lot more of that with collectors in general? If not, why? - asked by Plasticfetish
- Back when you were posting updates about the Fan's Choice figure development on your site, it did a lot to generate interest. Any chance that you'd go back to doing something like that? If not, why?
- I've seen the Kenner and Galoob logos on a few things lately. Is that just a "special" thing, or are we looking to see a relaunch of some old brands?
- Are more properties aside from Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Marvel, and Transformers planned for the Titanium Series lines?
- With each figure in The Saga Collection line having at least 6 different "exclusive hologram figure" pack-ins, some collectors think these were created solely to sell multiples of the same figure to completists. What was the thinking behind these "exclusive hologram figure" pack-ins, and why change the color from blue to red when there were no red character holograms in the movies?
- Canadaian collectors miss out on a many of the US-only store exclusives. Any chance Canadians could have every exclusive figure/vehicle/combination made available on shop.starwars.com after their shelf runs in the US stores?
- Is there any possibility of seeing a 7" Unleashed Clone Wars Animated wave?
- What is the status of the Holiday line? Any thoughts to a release of a Padme & Anakin with baby Luke manger type of scene?
- With talk about the Expanded Universe figures returning in 2007, are the EU figures going to be short-packed like TSC's Scorch or will there be enough for everyone?
- If Hasbro feels that mid-sized vehicles is the way to go, then will we be seeing more airspeeders and landspeeders in the forseeable future? Some of the airspeeders are pretty much snubfighter sized.
- Eventually will all the Episode III Clone Commanders be released as an entire set?
- With the release of the George Lucas in Stormtrooper Disguise and the Lucas Family Collection, can we expect to see a George Lucas the Director action figure in his trademarked flannel shirt and perhaps variations of old and young Lucas?
- Has Hasbro considered taking figures that were released in the original Kenner vintage line that have already been remade with modern VOTC quality (example: OTC Cloud Car Pilot) and packaging them on VOTC-style packaging, perhaps for a lower price than new-mold VOTC go for (msrp $10)?
- Are there going to be any more silver 'raw metal' Titanium 3" ships like the silver Slave I, 5-pack Millennium Falcon, 5-pack Death Star, etc.?
- Since we've seen Star Wars crossovers with Transformers done in the Star Wars Transformers line, the Attacktix line, and even some might argue the Titanium Series line; and Marvel Superheroes now have Titanium and Galactic Hero-styled entries, will we get other kinds of crossover entries, perhaps GI Joe Galactic Heroes? Star Wars, Transformers, and GI Joe all had their first comic ties to Marvel, so it'd be... uh... "perfect"!
- Though you said you wouldn't be releasing any new Separatist Leaders or Neimoidians in 2007 does this include repaints and retools of existing ones?
- What does Hasbro think about using the New Jedi Order (Yuuzhan Vong) series of novels for source material for the Expanded Universe collection?
- Since the upcoming Saesee Tiin's Jedi Starfighter is an orange version of the AOTC ship, does this lower the chances of getting the green & gray (with yellow droid) ROTS version of his ship as seen in the Clone Wars cartoon episode 23, or is it possible that we will still see one in the future?
- Since the AAT has been rereleased with the mid-sized vehicles, will the similarly-sized TX-130 Saber-class tank - seen in the Star Wars: Clone Wars and Battlefront videogames - ever be made? The vehicle was even used for both Republic and Imperial troops in Battlefront II.
- Any chance of ever seeing the Ultra Battle Droid made that appears in the Clone Wars Adventures Volume 1 comic story Heavy Metal Jedi?
- Understanding you don't want to divulge specific figures, can you tell us how many (if any) figures in the 30th Anniv. line will have running-change variant figures, a la The Saga Collection Endor Rebel Soldiers?
- The images released of the 30th Anniv. wave 2 carded and loose Death Star Trooper show him coming with the standard E-11 Stormtrooper blaster, however in A New Hope these troopers are shown sporting the DH-17, the blaster most often used by the Rebels (this blaster is even represented in this same wave with the Rebel Honor Guard and Biggs figures). Will the Death Star Trooper figure ship with the correct DH-17 blaster or continue with the E-11 shown in the photo sample, and if it's the latter, why?
- With the recent addition of the Comic Book Two packs, and the thoughts of EU Figures being shipped in future waves, will we ever see a new sculpt of Kyle Katarn, perhaps as he appears in either Jedi Knight or Jedi Outcast ? This would be great way also to release perhaps the Dark Jedi in the game as well as other characters in the games like Jan Ors or Rahn or even an older version of Luke Skywalker.
- Tech Mo'r is the member of the Modal Nodes who sits down and plays the ommni box, but both times he has been released (as part of the 1997 Fan Club exclusive and 2006 Wal-Mart Commemorative Tin Collection), he has been without knee articulation or the base for his instrument. Will we see him with these changes in the future?
- In the past, figures have included interlocking bases that can create larger diorama pieces. Will we see more of these in the future?
- Any chance that Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast will get together and pack in WOTC's Star Wars minatures with Hasbro basic figures?
- Any chance that we could get a new Rancor, perhaps packed with a Dathomir Witch or Sith Witch instead of Luke?
- In recent years, many Darth Vader figures have included a silver piece of material around the neck to represent the chain that holds Vader's cape on. However, every time this feature has been included, the "chain" ends up looking too big and out-of-place, while Vader figures that do not include this chain end up looking much better. In the interest of accuracy, could the chain either be scaled down (to better match its look in Episodes III, V, and VI), or done as sculpted plastic (as on earlier incarnations), or simply left off (as in Episode IV) on future Darth Vader figures?
- In a future release, would it be possible to re-release Dannik Jerriko with the holes in his face (the ones caused by the removable proboscises) filled in?
- What are the chances of getting the Scorpenek Annihilator Droid from the New Essential Guide to Droids?
- With the excitement generated by Sideshow's 12" figure line, does Hasbro have any regrets about cancelling their 12" line, especially since it's clear that there is a strong market for high-quality 12" Star Wars figures? Did Hasbro recognize a deficiency in their 12" Star Wars product which didn't meet consumer's expectations of quality leading to a lack of success, and was that a chief factor behind the decision to end it? Is there anything that in hindsight Hasbro would have done differently with the 12" line to keep it in-house?
- With 2007 being focused on the 30th Anniversary Collection, what plans if any are being made for 2008?
- In the Betrayal on Felucia Battlepack, why wasn't the corrected or more movie accurate variation of Commander Bly with brown accents used?
- In the carded and loose sample photos for the upcoming ANH Ceremony Luke, the figure has Darth Vader's lightsaber hilt plugged into his belt? (The carded photo it's even clear-banded onto his waist.) Is this merely an example of sample images with the wrong accessories, or if not, why does Hasbro keep giving the incorrect lightsaber hilt accessories to some figures? The VTSC X-wing Pilot Luke also had the Vader hilt on his belt. At the very least, shouldn't you paint the incorrect saber to match the correct one?
- Will you ever be rereleasing the Geonosian Starfighter, perhaps as a repaint? The ship had only a small release in a non-movie line and could use a rerelease. If so, is there anything you can do to strengthen the droopy dual-nose issue? This is a great mold with a very nifty exclusive pilot figure, but that droopy nose thing detracts from this cool set.
- In the Ambush on Ilum Battlepack, the C-3PO figure is gold, but during this sequence in the Clone Wars cartoon he was the same gray colors he was in Attack of the Clones. Why was the figure chosen to be in the inaccurate gold? The vac-metallized gold costs more to make even so this seems to run counter to a main goal of the battle pack line. Will we see a running change in the correct colors, or will it stay wrong? If this is just another example of "it's what we had on hand", could you walk us through the decision-making process that ok's something inaccurate like this?
- Some collectors missed out on the Vintage-style figures and now must look to ebay and other wretched hives of scum and villainy for these fine figures. What is the likelihood of seeing any or all of those Vintage-style figures rereleased and getting more of collectors' money directly? (They'd prefer to give it to you rather than overpriced after-market guys.)
- Back in October, Hasbro told us "fear not about the last few of the Titanium Ultra vehicles..., they will be made available to fans after all, just not at mass retail. Look for details on that soon." Since they're not going to be mass-retail items, they won't be at Toy Fair, so are there any new details available yet?
- With you knowing that collectors have been asking for new versions of movie accuarte Han and Luke in stormtrooper disguises for a while, why did you go and make them only in the comic 2 packs which are chiefly for EU fans? Will this further delay us getting movie accurate versions of these two now, or perhaps hasten it?
- Will the Battle Droid Commander in the Saga Legends line have a backpack or just the antennas? And will we be getting a Geonosis Battle Droid Commander in the Saga Legends line like the regular colored Commander?
- Why do hologram figures come with weapons when they're almost never shown using weapons in the holograms in the movies?
- Now that we've seen photos of the new Jedi Luke figure with cloth vest, what can you tell us about him? Is it an all new sculpt? Is his Death Star 2 costume on underneath the vest, is the vest and outer belt removable? What accessories will he have? What are the chances of seeing him repacked without the vest?
- Concerning Titanium Series 3" repaints, will the Titanium AT-RT get another release with a green & brown repainted driver the way the repainted Clone Swamp Speeder did with its pilots? And will we be seeing the Titanium AOTC Jedi Starfighter repainted in all the color schemes the figure scale one has come in (Clone Wars teal, Saesee Tiin's, Kit Fisto's), the way it is currently slated for a Plo Koon repaint?
- The Galactic Heroes line has recently seen a release of multipacks where the package can double as a play enviroment, any chance of a similar multipack-as-play-environment concept being used for the Titanium Series 3" vehicle line? (ie: Trench run, Battle above Endor, Battle above Coruscant, etc.)
- The movie scene photo on the back of The Saga Collection #50 Naboo Soldier's card shows characters in red versions of the same uniform, was this considered for a variation during production, or perhaps will we be seeing it in an upcoming year?
- The Snowspeeder has only been an exclusive item in the past two releases for it where prior releases were regular mass-retail. Why the exclusivity and accompanying higher pricepoint on this vehicle? If it's due to its somewhat large size compared to other vehicles, could it be scaled down to accurate proportions (since it is actually a little too large as-is) and released in the $20 line?
- When Episode II came out, there was a big fuss made about Hasbro using Realscan technology as an advanced guide assisting in the sculpting process - especially for heads and accessories. In the 5 years after, how often has Realscan been used since then, how helpful has it been, what are some of the most common drawbacks when using it for you, and what is the figure or figure's accessory that is closest to the Realscansource data?Vote now, and feel free to add new questions too. Thanks for participating!

I'll see if anyone else or even myself comes up with some new questions, but I'll use 4 / 6 votes as follows for the time being:

[11]- If Hasbro feels that mid-sized vehicles is the way to go, then will we be seeing more airspeeders and landspeeders in the forseeable future? Some of the airspeeders are pretty much snubfighter sized.

[18]- What does Hasbro think about using the New Jedi Order (Yuuzhan Vong) series of novels for source material for the Expanded Universe collection?

[33]- With 2007 being focused on the 30th Anniversary Collection, what plans if any are being made for 2008?

[37]- In the Ambush on Ilum Battlepack, the C-3PO figure is gold, but during this sequence in the Clone Wars cartoon he was the same gray colors he was in Attack of the Clones.

Feel the love.

19, 25, 26, 29, 37, and:
In the films, X-wing Fighters are differentiated by the red stripes near the back of the wings: for instance, Luke's Red Five X-wing has five stripes on each side, Garvin Dreis's Red Leader X-wing has one on each, and so on. Will we ever see the release of a generic X-wing (using the existing mold) with stickers so that fans can customize their own ships for other pilots? This would likely result in more sales than the pre-designated ships, as fans would want to purchase several to bulk out their fleet and have ships for existing pilot figures such as Wedge, Biggs, and Porkins.

Also, what happened to my question about exclusive figures, in which I mentioned the silver and holograph figures from TRU?

What is the liklihood of seeing vintage figures released? As a collector who missed the boat on that one eBay is my only shot for now, but because the figures seemed to do so well (especially the early waves) Hasbro could bring them back and I'd rather buy them from you anyway.

I'd like to add the following question:

In the past you (Hasbro) told us: "Fear not about the last few of the Titanium Ultra vehicles…. they will be made available to fans after all, just not at mass retail. Look for details on that soon."
It has been a while since then. Are any details available yet?

New Questions:

Knowing that collectors have been asking for new versions of movie accuarte Han and Luke in stormtrooper disguise, why would Hasbro go and make them in the comic 2 packs which are strictly for EU fans? Will this further delay us getting movie accurate versions of these two now?

I actually don't have any new questions to offer. So I'll just vote:

2, 3, 14, 28 (more for the new Rancor, I have no idea what a Dathomir Witch is and I don't really want to know), 32, 36

I know I've been a bit... overly procrastinating in getting my questions in in the past couple of weeks. However, I'd like to add a new, non-SW question (specifically about Transformers Classics). Is this allowed, or a total no-no?

Well darn it, BigBarada! I thought you were waiting to find out and I just wrote 21 pages explaining it all to you!

Well darn it, BigBarada! I thought you were waiting to find out and I just wrote 21 pages explaining it all to you!

:D Send it to Del Rey, maybe they'll publish it. :p

As long as we get an all-new Rancor sculpt that can actually stand on it's own, it could come packed with Daisy Duke for all I care.

With the great success of the Battlestar Galactica Titanium line, aside from the titanium ultra Cylon, are there any plans to release 3 3/4 inch versions of the figures and vehicles from the show?

KH - you're comment about cinema scenes was in reference to the galactic heroes sets which recently came out i believe - arena, bounty hunters and death star.

ony 3 questions for now:
12. clone commander set
16. gi joe galactic heroes
28. rancor

Shoot, since no one said "no," I'm figuring it's better to ask forgiveness than permission. :)

New question:
"The Transformers Classics appear to be selling quite well, especially given that there is no tie-in cartoon. The line has even gotten several fans who haven't bought a Transformers toy in years interested again. Are there plans to continue the line beyond the Cliffjumper/Ramjet wave and the Ultra Magnus/Skywarp two-pack?"

DarkJedi5, RobertDD, Kidhuman, you each have 5 votes left.

This would likely result in more sales than the pre-designated ships, as fans would want to purchase several to bulk out their fleet and have ships for existing pilot figures such as Wedge, Biggs, and Porkins. Not that Porkins and Wedge figures could actually fit in the current mold. Anyway, they answered this back on Sept 1st:
Yakface.com: Has Hasbro ever considered releasing an iconic vehicle like the X-Wing with several different sticker sheets included so the consumer can decorate it to be like Luke's, Wedge's, or other pilots' X-Wings? It seems like kids would buy the item since it is a recognizable vehicle and collectors might buy multiple to decorate them in different ways.
Hasbro: This is an interesting idea. We'll look at it in the context of our vehicle program.

Also, what happened to my question about exclusive figures, in which I mentioned the silver and holograph figures from TRU?It was asked on Jan 12th, unfortunately it appears Hasbro wasn't accepting questions that week and didn't tell us, so I'm working to get them answered with the questions from the 19th but no guarantees there.

What is the liklihood of seeing vintage figures released? As a collector who missed the boat on that one eBay is my only shot for now, but because the figures seemed to do so well (especially the early waves) Hasbro could bring them back and I'd rather buy them from you anyway. You mean "re-released", right? I put it up as such and counted your vote towards it.

I know I've been a bit... overly procrastinating in getting my questions in in the past couple of weeks. However, I'd like to add a new, non-SW question (specifically about Transformers Classics). Is this allowed, or a total no-no?It's not gonna work unless there's some way to tie it to Star Wars, in large part because asking Transformers questions of the Star Wars team gets nothing accomplished. I would very much like to know a definitive answer to your TF question, but asking the Star Wars guys sadly won't get it, and they haven't returned my request for TF Q&A.

robertDD's question,
and:
With the great success of the Battlestar Galactica Titanium line, aside from the titanium ultra Cylon, are there any plans to release 3 3/4 inch versions of the figures and vehicles from the show?First off, I counted your vote for Robert's question. Now... Hasbro responded to your BSG question on Sept 22nd:
SWcollector.com: Since Hasbro is doing some of the SCI-FI Channel's Battlestar Galactica ships as Titaniums, will you be doing any action figures from the new series or the old TV series? Would they be in the same 3 3/4-inch scale as Star Wars figures if you did?
Hasbro: Yes, we do have plans and they are in the 3-3/4" scale. The first one up this Fall is the current Cylon. Look for that on shelves in December. As for 2007, there are more plans for both the new and old shows but you'll have to stay tuned. {SSG ed note: Hasbro seems to be referring to the Titanium Series die cast metal Cylon.}
And 3 days earlier:
Rebelscum.com: Okay, it's not Star Wars related, but hey, we love all science fiction around here! Since you have the licence, and have done Titanium Series vehicles (and the upcoming Cylon figure), would you ever consider doing a line of Star Wars-scaled Battlestar Galactica action figures based on either the original or the new series like; Apollo, Starbuck, Adama, or a Cylon?

Hasbro: We do have the license to do originals, and we are looking at that. We have no announcements yet, though.
But if you think it's worth trying again, I mabye could be convinced with a little more persuasion. BTW, that Titanium Cylon has yet to come out. :ermm:

I've got one that nobody else would think to ask!

New Question (yes I'm serious):

Collectibles like baseball cards were traditionally packaged with sticks of chewing gum, and Hasbro has liked to include pack-ins with its Star Wars figures since 1998. Could including chewing gum be considered for a future pack-in?

- Back when you were posting updates about the Fan's Choice figure development on your site, it did a lot to generate interest. Any chance that you'd go back to doing something like that? If not, why?
- With talk about the Expanded Universe figures returning in 2007, are the EU figures going to be short-packed like TSC's Scorch or will there be enough for everyone?
- If Hasbro feels that mid-sized vehicles is the way to go, then will we be seeing more airspeeders and landspeeders in the forseeable future? Some of the airspeeders are pretty much snubfighter sized.
- Eventually will all the Episode III Clone Commanders be released as an entire set?
- Since the AAT has been rereleased with the mid-sized vehicles, will the similarly-sized TX-130 Saber-class tank - seen in the Star Wars: Clone Wars and Battlefront videogames - ever be made? The vehicle was even used for both Republic and Imperial troops in Battlefront II.

Yeah, I'm not going to ask that.

Imagine if I started a Star Wars website just so I could get Hasbro to answer stupid questions:

1) Do you have a specialist sniff your new action figures to test freshness?

2) Could you include chewing gum as a pack-in?

3) Are there any plans for a Mouse Droid cinema scene?

You know I could go on. But I really have this thing where I love negative attention and imagining their faces when they get these questions e-mailed in and they start discussing them with their team. They'll be questioning, "Are these guys serious?" Then they'll ask, "Are they insane?" They'll nervously laugh at the fact I'll make a forums board for Rhode Island natives who are collectors in their 80's. Then they might consider calling the Surgeon General to see if the government has declared sniffing plastic fumes hazardous to your health!

It would be funnier if I could hijack the e-mail going out of Rebelscum or another well-known site and ask these questions because it would really surprise them since www.IsniffStarWarsfigures.com doesn't sound like a real fan site.

4) Have you tried using gummy bear gelatin in your holo figure pack-in molds?

- I could just go on and on. Too bad April Fools' Day this year is on a Sunday. Were it on a Friday, I could make you a rocking question list, JT!

5 - Are more properties aside from Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Marvel, and Transformers planned for the Titanium Series lines?

14 - Has Hasbro considered taking figures that were released in the original Kenner vintage line that have already been remade with modern VOTC quality (example: OTC Cloud Car Pilot) and packaging them on VOTC-style packaging, perhaps for a lower price than new-mold VOTC go for (msrp $10)?

20 - Since the AAT has been rereleased with the mid-sized vehicles, will the similarly-sized TX-130 Saber-class tank - seen in the Star Wars: Clone Wars and Battlefront videogames - ever be made? The vehicle was even used for both Republic and Imperial troops in Battlefront II.

22 - Understanding you don't want to divulge specific figures, can you tell us how many (if any) figures in the 30th Anniv. line will have running-change variant figures, a la The Saga Collection Endor Rebel Soldiers?

24 - With the recent addition of the Comic Book Two packs, and the thoughts of EU Figures being shipped in future waves, will we ever see a new sculpt of Kyle Katarn, perhaps as he appears in either Jedi Knight or Jedi Outcast ? This would be great way also to release perhaps the Dark Jedi in the game as well as other characters in the games like Jan Ors or Rahn or even an older version of Luke Skywalker.

40 - With you knowing that collectors have been asking for new versions of movie accuarte Han and Luke in stormtrooper disguises for a while, why did you go and make them only in the comic 2 packs which are chiefly for EU fans? Will this further delay us getting movie accurate versions of these two now, or perhaps hasten it?

Hey JT, I noticed rebelscum posted answers from their 24th session, but it seems like we're still waiting for answers from the 23rd session? Looking at a roundup report, they seem to have SSG's 22nd session listed as the 23rd.

So...are we behind?

Rebelscum was the only fan site to NOT get their questions answered the other week. While I don't know if they have numbered their Q&A correctly, or if Hasbro just inadvertently skipped a set of their Q's by mistake, I think they were catching up. So maybe their numbers are correct and these are the 24th set, while they still haven't had their 23rd set answered?

Question 43 added.

ROTJLuke, you have 5 votes left.

IMPORTANT BUSINESS REGARDING QUESTION 25:

Tech Mo'r is the member of the Modal Nodes who sits down and plays the ommni box, but both times he has been released (as part of the 1997 Fan Club exclusive and 2006 Wal-Mart Commemorative Tin Collection), he has been without knee articulation or the base for his instrument. Will we see him with these changes in the future?

That question is somewhat similar to one that another site got answered yesterday, so question 25 is in danger of being stricken and I would like more feedback before I do so, or it will be removed from the next round altogether. Here is the Hasbro answer that is putting #25 in jeopardy:
Yakface.com: The exclusive Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes Commemorative Tin is now in Wal-Mart. The repaints are nice and it gives kids and collectors a great chance to catch something they might have missed from the Fan Club release. However, Lucasfilm licensees agree that there are SIX, sometimes SEVEN members. (I lean toward seven because of the photo in the classic Star Wars Storybook.) In fact, Hasbro even released six band members in its 12" line in 1997. So, why did Hasbro produce only five bith for this set? It seems a conscious decision was made to exclude a figure because the
card even mentions "Sitting out sick: Doikk Na'ts," although a "fizzz" instrument is included. Was this a pricepoint issue? Three figures clearly fit in the bubble. All it required was an additional figure with fanfar instrument. Will we see a single-carded figure to complete the band? (Perhaps with articulated knees?)
Hasbro: We didn't intend to offer the whole band (and there is a compelling argument for seven members). We wanted to keep the price of this tin the same as the regular EpI-VI tins, but didn't want to shortchange the value either. We could have just gone with four figures, but added in the fifth for value since it looked a little sparse with just four of them in there. There won't be a single carded regular figure available in the main line this year. Articulated knees would be a cool feature to add to the Nodes at some point.

Hey JT, I noticed rebelscum posted answers from their 24th session, but it seems like we're still waiting for answers from the 23rd session? Looking at a roundup report, they seem to have SSG's 22nd session listed as the 23rd.

So...are we behind? Our answers were in by then, but our Q&A editor was not. :p I put them up last night when I got home, they're the top story till the end of today.

As for why they're listing our questions 1 session ahead, it's because one time last year Hasbro neglected us altogether while everybody else got questions, so they're on 24 while we're on 23.

Rebelscum was the only fan site to NOT get their questions answered the other week. So maybe their numbers are correct and these are the 24th set, while they still haven't had their 23rd set answered?RS did end up getting their questions answered in the last round, it just took them a little longer to post the answers for some reason. Anyway, I suspect even if they missed one, they are counting the sessions globally rather than just for their site, whereas I count them only for our sites because if anybody read them consecutively they'd be confused by the resulting missing numbers in the sequence.

Okey dokey then, that makes sense.

Some questions to add, mostly Titanium-

Will the Titanium AT-RT get a release with a green & brown painted AT-RT driver as the Swamp Speeder did?

Will we be seeing the Titanium AOTC Jedi Starfighter repainted in all the color schemes the figure scale one has come in (Clone Wars teal, Saesee Tiin's, Kit Fisto's)?

The Galactic Heroes line has multipacks with the package able to double as a play enviroment, any chance of this concept being used for the Titanium line? (Ie: Trench run, Battle above Endor, Battle above Coruscant, etc.)

The movie scene on the back of #50 Naboo Soldier's card shows characters in red versions of the same uniform, was this considered for a variation during production or will we be seeing it in an upcoming year?

The Snowspeeder has only been an exclusive item in the past two releases for it. Is this due to it's somewhat large size compared to other vehicles, if so could it be scaled down to accurate proportions since it is actually too large as-is and released in the $20 line?

It's been a long time since I spoke of this subject matter, but it's a valid quesion, let's see if anyone can answer it or pose it.

Hasbo: First off, I love your line, but I have a question that honestly bothers me, so please don't feel that I'm trying to oust your opperation. I know the freight flow of multiple stores in a major retail company but I need your help to understand this situation.

It has been said that the warehouse shipping methods, and shelf turnover is very healthy for your company, but as a multi-store, sometimes multi-state collector it seems that in 10 out of 12 stores the shelves which could hold 4 cases (48 figures) only have but 4 or 5 figs on their shelves. This gives the presentation that is opposite of what is claimed. If I didn't work for a retailer that orders SW figs I would dismiss this as stores not ordering. However, since I do work for a retailer when I call my buyers they say call a hasbro buyer. When I call Hasbro they say we have so and so many cases shipping out of Hong Kong to your location on a specific date (which is usually weeks after I sold out of figures.) In many locations where I work SW figures have been non replentishable for over a year now. Which means if I want to make an order of SW figures (which I have the authority to do) I can not. I want to put your stuff on the shelves, but it seems hopeless. At my location we have been sent under 5 cases in about 5 months. My question is this: Why is it Littlest pet shop, and multiple other lines of your company reach the shelves in weekly replentishment and are available for order when SW stuff is not, and what is being done about this? What can I do to help your company on my end to get my shelves full besides ensuring shelf caps, and on-hands are correct?

I don't beleive "replentishable" is an actual word but I want to be sure.

I tried several times to whittle your question down, but I ultimately cannot yet add it because I am unfortunately sure that they're going to point the finger at your company as the culprit, saying something like "we only ship the product to the retailer's main warehouse, how they distribute it throughout their chain is beyond our control" or some similar pat answer that passes the buck. I want this question to be bulletproof and while you've given a lot of background it's not quite enough to get it out the door yet. Here's what I've come up with, and as you can see it's not tight enough and doesn't fill in the supply chain background enough for them to recognize that they're to blame:
Jaff asks: "It has been said that warehouse shipping methods and shelf-turnover is very healthy for your company, yet for me as a multiple-store and even sometimes multiple-state collector it seems that 5 out of every 6 stores have dedicated Star Wars shelfspace for 4 cases' worth of figures (48 figures) while only having around 4 or 5 figures on their shelves - suggesting the opposite of what is claimed. If I didn't work for a retailer who orders Star Wars product from you, I would view this as stores not ordering, but I do work for a retailer and in my experiences when I call my buyers about this they say to call a Hasbro representative. When I call Hasbro they say they have so and so many cases shipping out of Hong Kong to our location on a specific date (which is often weeks after I've sold out of figures). In many locations at the retailer where I work, Star Wars figures have been non-replenishable for over a year now, which means if I want to make an order of Star Wars figures (which is part of my job) I cannot. I want to put your stuff on shelves, but it seems hopeless; at my location we have been sent under 5 cases in around 5 months. My question is: Why is it that Littlest Pet Shop and multiple other lines from your company reach the shelves in weekly replenishment and are available for order when SW stuff is not, and what is being done about this? What can I do on my end to help your company get my shelves full of your product, besides ensuring shelf caps, and on-hands are correct?"
Please get back to me on your thoughts, I hope to add this question to the queue soon.

Yeah, you're right JediTricks, I did mean rerelease and I guess to further clarify, I also meant the "vintage" style figures of the modern era. Thanks.Cool, sure thing. I assumed you had to mean vintage-style modern figs since Hasbro's answer about actual vintage figures came down hard against it.

Why havent the Toy Fair exclusives been available recently online or released down the road as a store exclusive?Hmm, I'm not adding that at this juncture only because the Toy Fair exclusive Vader actually was offered through StarWars.com or the Fan Club, I forget which, but that's how I got mine, so there was an avenue for it back in the day - albeit very briefly. The Gold Titanium Vader's TIE was the Toy Fair exclusive last year as well as at SDCC and was also available online. The Gold Titanium regular TIE is not that kind of exclusive, it has only been offered in the WM Falcon Transformer. The Gold X-wing Titanium was a con exclusive from 2 years ago, and I don't remember if it was ever offered online but I remember Warstar freaking out about it ;). Anyway, I don't believe there's been any Toy Fair exclusive TOYS that haven't been offered elsewhere, so you'll need to do a little research and prove me wrong on that to get the question up. (I'm not counting the Anakin-to-Vader press kit from '05 since those figures were unchanged from the regular figures in different packaging.)

How about a reworded version of this:

In response to recent questions about Expanded Universe figures, you've said that there must be an existing visual representation of the character. However, the recent Wal-Mart exclusive wave includes two EU figures, Aurra Sing (Bespin) and Vader's Astromech, neither of which have been represented visually prior to the release of the figures. Is this because they are straight repaints of previous figures? If so, is there any possibility of getting future EU figures who can be repainted or "kitbashed" from existing figures, even if there is no existing visual representation?

I don't recall the details of the one-shot that well. It's been a few years, and it didn't leave a tremendous impression one way or the other.

You can't exactly go by the cover art on the Boba Fett books, though, as it's all pieced together from movie scenes and promo shots. You'll notice Grievous is clearly the concept version. Not sure how they pulled off a realistic Durge, though.

The jist of it is, since they've shown that they're willing to make figures of some EU characters, despite a lack of existing visual reference, if they can be repainted from existing molds, are there possibilities for future EU characters that can be repainted or kitbashed from existing figures.

I used Aurra and Vader's Astromech as examples, because the cardback indicates Aurra is from the Young Boba Fett novel series, and Vader's Astromech (sorry, these R-numbers stopped being easy to remember about 50 droids back ;)) is presumably based upon a pic of Vader's Starfighter in the New Essential Chronology, where the astromech isn't exactly visible.

And that's not even counting loads of "made-up" EU like camo Battle Droids and Clones of every color scheme imaginable.

So that's out obviously. Can you get me anything besides droids I can use for the question? They're doing purple droids and camo droids so an EU droid is hardly a far stretch from those and ain't going to impress upon them the issue.

NEW QUESTION: (count me voting for it too)

(JT, please add offensive language supurlatives where appropriate when actually asking Hasbro this question. (Example: You-Cheap-Pieces-of-$###@!) Thank you.)

Why does Hasbro include that short blaster with many of their Clone Trooper figures when even their own pictures show the long rifle that the troopers actually used in the movie? The most recent example is the Elite Corps (Kashyyyk Clone ) in Wave 9, but the ROTS #41 Clone Trooper (Super Articulated) and the CW Clone Trooper (Geonosis) also carried a weapon they were either not shown with in the movie, or featured with as their secondary weapon. Many of the Clone Commanders and the Battle Pack Clones (Betrayal on Fallucia) carry the correct rifles, so Hasbro is manufacturing them.

(Please include those details I added to the question as well - so they can't say the rifles are bending or whatever - they ship them with SOME figures but not others.)

http://www.rebelscum.com/photo.asp?image=/TSC/tsc065eliteinsert.jpg

Here's what I got to in the question when I realized the prob:
Why does Hasbro include only the short blaster pistol with many of their Clone Trooper figures when even the movie-character photos on the packaging show those specific troopers with the long rifle that was the only Clone weapon used in AOTC and more often used in ROTS? The most recent example is the Elite Corps Kashyyyk Clone from wave 9
Anyway, rework the question and pose it again when I start the next round's thread tomorrow.
