Anyone heard about this? G. Lu is releasing the movies on DVD and then after Episode III comes out, he will rerelease ALL the movies after shooting extra footage to tie the entire Saga together...So kind of like "Super Special Editions"...

I've suspected this was going to happen ever since the SE's. As long as the non-SE OT is available on DVD I could really care less what GL does with them.

random hearsay and speculation posted on tf.n seems to validate it as fact these days....... Though nothing would surprise me as far as money for old rope Lucas goes, I don't credit this report with much kudos owing to the fact that we haven't even seen how they've done the EPI DVD yet and already everybody is stating that they know what's going to be on the full saga boxed set. Silly season must have started....

Lets hope that when the trilogy comes out in DVD format, they include all the deleted scenes that were not present in the Special Editions.

When the Special Editions were released, George Lucas was fond of bandying about the quote that "Movies are never finished, just abandoned." There are so many aspects of the Special Editions that made one wish they had been left abandoned.

Are these really happening? Or has this rumor just been floating around so long that it has become accepted lore?

I think it's just accepted now, I've been hearing these rumours since TPM came out in 99'.

But it's still a rumor? Has Lucasfilm confirmed any of this or is it just a fanboy's wet dream that spread over the internet like a plague? Can anyone, post a link or some documentation that proves somebody with authority (EG Rick McCallum) mentioned this. Or are we all just reaffirming it by bringing it up in different threads and on different websites?

after another rumour was thrown out there for us...

I have pretty much resigned myself to the fact there will not be any DVDs until after Episode III...

He will probably re-re-re-re-release the whole bunch of them out to the theatres one more time before he trots out the collection on DVD.

I too think this will be the case. I mean this is how Lucas makes his money. First we had the Original Trilogy, all of which came back to theaters twice, then each were released on VHS, and then they went back and made THX versions of them all and released those on VHS. Not to mention Laser Disc and VHS letterbox versions of the movies. Then the Special Editions were released in theatres and then released to VHS in both wide and pan-scan formats. I would expect nothing less than archival versions of all 3 OT movies to be re-released before the DVD comes out. Then once Lucas has been satisfied with making another $billion dollars from the OT he'll release all 6 movies in a fancy 12 disc set with tons of extras for about $200.00 a pop. Not a bad way to make yet another $billion dollars off us poor SW fans!

The only thing that I can say is if any pre-quels Episode II or III are released to a theater with a Digital Projector, you be sure that I won't be paying the $20.00 a pop to see the movies. I'll wait for the DVD thank you very much!

K.O.A.L.A. King Of All Lame Acronyms.

Yes to no DVDs until after 2005 and Episode III.

Probably yes to rereleasing the OT in theatres one last time before the DVDs.

But, extra footage? I'm not saying yes and I'm not saying no. I just want to see where somebody from Lucasfilm said this was happening. I want confirmation. Even a quote that says they are toying with the idea, but nothing is concrete. Otherwise, it's just one fansite telling another fansite, who tells a third fansite and then pretty soon we're all clamoring for this phantom "Archival Edition" of Star Wars that we'll never get...

I am not buying any more video or DVD versions of Star Wars until GL releases the ultimate and final version of the saga.

So I'll be ready to plunk down my money sometime in 2006 :)

Me too...I already have two copies of the SW OT, and frankly I don't want to buy more than one more copy (Ultimate Complete DVD collection!)

Yup that's what I have too.
I ask only one thing of the "Ultimate editions", please include the original cuts of the OT.
