View Full Version : Someone had too little sleep when they wrote the Invisible Hand's description...

Ok, does the following description on the back of the General Grievous' Invisible Hand 3" Titanium crack anyone else up as much as it cracked me up?

Read:

"In the crowded, burning skies above Coruscant, the Invisible Hand- flagship of the Separatist Fleet- hovers at the center of the battle. From her titanic hangar bay flood dozens of Droid Tri-Fighters, while hundreds of Vulture Droids cling to the outer hull, waiting the moment to launch into combat. Her batteries spew hot death at closing Republic Star Destroyers, and around her glows the plasma residue of proton torpedo exhaust. Within, two of the greatest Jedi of the Republic fight for their lives and that of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine against the dread evil of Count Dooku and General Grievous."

:D Too danged funny! Now imagine it read in a BAD movie announcer's voice and try NOT to laugh- you can't!

Who the hec thought of "Her batteries spew hot death" ? ? ? ? HAHAHAHAHAH! lol They needed some serious sleep, IMHO :D

I mean "Spew hot death?" Couldn't they have thought of something better?

well, i wish i could find an Invisible Hand and read it for myself. it's right up there with the write up for the Target exclusive rehash unleashed Fett.

I noticed that too WS and thought it seemed weird and out of place.

I however did a get a chuckle when I read it how you said.

"Batteries spewed hot death." Wasn't that a headline about notebook computers recently?

Hasbro has some copy writers that are just awful, in the one you copied they changed tenses twice and were goofy and sloppy. If you look at Transformers bios, you'll begin to see this sort of thing a LOT.

Perhaps it was the same copy writer who wrote this for Unleashed Fett:

Comments: As the hungry Sarlacc holds Boba Fett in its lashing tentacles, you would expect Fett to rage at fate for bringing him to this hideous circumstance. But Fett never allows himself a second of weakness or self-pity. From the moment he witnessed the brutal death of his father in the first battle of the Clone Wars, Boba Fett has dealt with the injustices and vagaries of life in a cold, calculating manner. Encased in armor and hidden behind a battle helmet, Fett has cut himself off from the universe, protecting himself from the dangers of his work as a bounty hunter, and also, perhaps, from the pain of loving and losing anyone else dear to him. Even as he struggles within the deadly Pit of Carkoon, Boba Fett exemplifies a harsh enforcer of his own code of honor and justice. He is armed not only with powerful weapons but also with the superb survival and martial arts skills taught to him by his father. If it could be possible for anyone to emerge alive from the carnivorous maw of the Saracc, that person would be Boba Fett.

Unfortunately i don't have a camera to take pics of it but is there a variation on The Hot Death? at my local target, i saw that was noticeably lighter than the other ones. specifically on the top where the striped bands are, this one has dark grey alternating with very, very, very light grey.

hmm...the more i think about it, it's probably not a variant.

I saw a variant of the Blockade Runner at target, very very dark grey almost looked burned up.

Yeah, I remember hearing about those Rebel Blockade Runner wash differences. I'm still not convinced ANY of those are true variants, until I hear different I'm thinking of them as just random paint issues, like 1 Luke Jabba's Palace having lighter hair than another - without a clarifying uniformity to the variation, it's merely an "error" at best.

...

Found and bought 2 Invisible Hands- one with hardly any dark gray wash (it's practically white) and the other very, VERY dark gray.

I would call them variants as they are blatantly different, BUT JT has a point- they're just just paint issues really. Plus, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to them (i.e. you might get variants of paint in the same case- it's not like 1 case is all light and then the next ones are all dark. When that happens is usually indicates a production run shift though).

Some other ships I've noticed this light/dark variation too (and I own them all for proof):

-Battle-Ravaged Falcon (light and dark)
-Blockade Runner (light and dark)
-Super Star Destroyer (light and dark)

Some other ships have odd paint applications as well:

-Recent SwampSpeeder Green with AT-RT pilots with varying levels of "Mud" ranging from LOTS to little

-Blue A-Wing with lots of dark brown wash or very little brown wash

-Amidala's Star Skiff from Episode 3 with black "wash" paint or COMPLETELY without black "wash" paint (VERY distinct variant there- all of the Amidala skiffs I have seen all have black panel lines on them though either way)

...I'm still waiting to see if Hasbro will correct the Luke Dagobah X-Wing stripe error (3 stripes instead of 5 on the bottom S-Foils)

At any rate, buy whatever ship you think looks best or open the best looking one- that's what these paint oddities are all about :)

Any type of variation where it seems to be more about chance than a specific change, I don't count those as variations in the purest sense because, like you said, no rhyme or reason to when it hits the item, it could just be that the wind blew in the factory a little heavier that hour and dried the paintwash faster.

how could Hasbro make such a visible error.

Warstar

The Red 3 stripes are not THAT visible while the ship is in package, though.

Anyway-

When I get back to Montana I'll have to take pics of the Amidala Skiff's with and without paint wash- I have 2 of each version and am opening 2 for variation purposes.

It's my hope to convince even the mighty JT that this is a TRUE variant with a production change- not some random wind gust :)

even on the top of it part of the red 5 markings should be visible cause the muck doesn't cover the whole area of the wings.
