SWEET!

The first question that comes to mind is:

-Will the X-Wing and Republic Gunship re-releases have the plastic bases and clear cases with their names on them since their original Wal-Mart releases didn't? 'Cause if so, I need to order them, too!

Already pre-ordered the Ultra JSF and Ultra TIE though

THANKS HASBRO!

I wonder why there was no new SW Titaniums shown at Toy Fair?

The three waves slated for this year so far are up until June. Maybe Hasbro will show the new ones at C4 or even SDCC.

The UPC codes that TRU has listed their site are different codes that are on the original Ultra X-Wing & Gunship versions. Based on that alone, it makes me think that they are quite possibly re-paints or at the very least have different packaging.
I hope for continuity sake, the display cases are the same as the latest Ultra's were. For me it was bad enough that they changed them once, but if they change them again it will be a hodge podge of display types for a single line of ships.

Ok, I have a question for the "professionals" here since 99% of my purchasing is from hunting and I have never pre-ordering anything before.

If these are TRU exclusives, is this something that I will need to pre-order on their site in order to get them, or will they probably be hitting the TRU store shelves too at about the same time?

Thanks,
Brent

Kidhuman
02-12-2007, 09:09 PM
Unsure about them being exclusives and if they are whether or not its online only. All we know is they have em for preorder.

figrin bran
02-12-2007, 10:09 PM
i believe they are TRU exclusives. notice that they are $24.99 which is higher than the prices for non exclusive Titanium 6" vehicles.

edit: KH, i thought you read the SSG front page. anyhow, JT says they're TRU exclusives.

Kidhuman
02-12-2007, 10:51 PM
Nah, I didnt read the front page. I dont know where he got exclusive from. TRU always has higher prices that Target or WM, so 24.99 is about right for them.

RobertDD
02-13-2007, 09:50 AM
Even though I am dying to get my hands on these, I will wait with pre ordering them until they have the pictures up and have been identified as titanium ultra's. Also: other retailers might carry them at a lower price point (TRU website does not ID them as TRU exclusives from what I could tell) and I do not nescessarily trust TRU to guarantee enough stock, or to let you know in time that they will not have enough stock so you can cancel and reorder somewhere else, so I really rather order through someone else to begin with (Entertainment Earth for instance, even though that wouldn't be cheap, or Hasbro's own site)

Based on previous experiences with online ordering I would be very surprised if they sell out before the release date, so I keep my options open for a little bit.

JediTricks
02-13-2007, 04:58 PM
If they're on the website, it's very likely they'll end up at the stores as well. The higher pricepoint is higher than their prices for other 6" Titanium Ultras, that says "exclusive" right there, and Hasbro's previous responses about it suggest exclusivity.

Good info! My packages are buried someplace from my move so I didn't have them to compare UPC's.

It's somewhat safe to say that the packaging will be different- unless TRU just uses a UPC sticker :( I wish there was more info- I, too, hope the bases are the same as the rest of the line or else yeah, these won't fit in my shelves (after I build them!)

I just ordered the Jedi Starfighter and Tie Fighter. They are having a buy 1 get 1 free sale that no one has mentioned. If you guys preordered them, I'd recommend cancelling and replacing the order to get them for basicly half price. They're 24.99 each, not sure if they jacked up the price for the sale or not though.

Hopefully soon we'll find out if the X-Wing and Gunship will be repaints, I didn't order them but if they're going to be different getting them BOGO will be ideal.

Later,

Thanks S43 !!

I had decided to hold off until these hit the stores, but with this kind of promotion I couldn't justify it.
Then I signed up for the Google checkout and got an additional $10 off of the order !

This all sounds to good to be true, so I won't be a bit surprised of my order gets cancelled by TRU for exploiting soem sort of a loop hole.

w00t!

Ordered another JSF, TIE AND the Rep Gunship and X-Wing (I mean what the hec, ya know?) for the Buy 1 Get 1 Free deal!

I'll either send the original 2-ship order I made back when I get it OR I'll pass on the extra TIE and/or the JSF to someone in this place that needs them! (I'm looking at all of you foreign-type people- my cost plus shipping :D ;))

AND if the X-Wing and Rep Gunship are straight re-releases of the Wal-Mart ones from years ago I am SURE I could also pass those on to those in need, too (my cost plus shipping! :D)

Thanks for pointing out the sale! YAY!

Well, I didn't see this coming, but TRU immediately took the funds out of my account - no other etailer does that when it's a preorder! Then this morning I got this weird email:

What does that mean? Of course there's been a delay in the shipping, that's why it's a pre-order.

Kidhuman
02-19-2007, 07:12 PM
Yeah it is basically telling you it isnt in stock. If you go to there website and track your order it will say pre order or something.

I am so irked about this sale. LAst week I had a $50 dollar TRU gift card and used it. I should have waited.

Warstar
02-19-2007, 07:28 PM
They don't take the funds until the items ship- they're just pre-authorizing your credit card. The funds you have on the card will re-appear in a few days for immediate use but they will be wtihdrawn permanently when the ships ship.

It is weird that they pre-auth the full amount though, as most places usually only pre-auth a $1.00 just to make sure the credit card number given was good.

They look very nice, I like the slight weathering on Anakin's Starfighter but the nose of the X-Wing looks a little bit overdone.
Clone Wars deco on the gunship looks cool, hopefully those nose guns will be fixed though.
It's nice to see that they stayed with the 2nd gen. display cases too.

Now I am kicking myself for not ordering all 4 during that sale.

...I MAY have an extra on the way...by the way...AndyW ;)

And you're right JT- they were tied down BUT they had spots molded into them for a plastic piece where they could have the original AF-style stands inserted into the bottom of them. Whether or not they used these stand holes to even mount these re-molds onto the new plastic cases remains to be seen.

It might still be possible to custom the old Wal-Mart Ultras to fit in the new cases using the AF stand holes...somehow...?

JediTricks
03-22-2007, 02:15 PM
Well, the ZAMAC is fairly soft stuff in the metal biz, you could probably drill your own holes - Hasbro just starts a hole and then lets the screw itself drill the hole the rest of the way and cut its own threads, which is why some of them get stuck - but that could end up damaging the paint job. I am very curious to see how this plays out, but I'm betting they're not going to be compatible out of the box since they need a minimum of 2 screws to connect to the stands.

AndyW

I'm fairly confident these will find their way over here in the usual specialist stores (for a sky high price), however sometimes its best not to risk it.

And JT- Yeah, I'm curious too. We'll see I suppose. I bet I could figure out something that wouldn't damage the ships- but it'd probably destroy an action fleet stand! :p

I got a cancellation e-mail from toys r us yesterday for my order placed on 2/18. I called them up and got it straightened out, they had to replace the order and are going to charge the full price and refund the b1g1 after they charge my card. I initially paid through paypal and apparently after 60 days they just cancel the order if it hasn't shipped yet, and obviosuly they haven't shipped since it isn't 5/10 yet.

Anyways, if anyone else gets thier order canceled just call 1-800-toysrus and get it straightened out.

Arrived today. Shweeeeet!

I did not realize the TIEs were regular ones - thought they were re-releases of the VaderTIE.

I *REALLY* want a TIE Fighter and we have no TRUs for 40+ miles away. Too far to drive with these gas prices on a small chance to find one.

[edit: just ordered it from TRU = about $32 after tax & shipping, but I'd have spent at least $10 on the gas round trip, so... Yeah, I know - I really need to get a more gas-efficient vehicle]

I got all 4 of them today. My gunship has the bent guns unfortunately. I almost didn't order the Gunship or X-Wing either, thinking they would be repacks of the originals. Then I figured for 12.50 each who cares if they were repacks and I'm glad I took the chance. I was surprised to find that I like the look of the X-Wing better than the previous WM version and the Action Fleet versions. The Tie doesn't impress me at all, I'll have to take a closer look and see if I change my mind. The Jedi Starfighter is awesome as anticipated. I have all the Ultras now except for the Battlestar Galactica.

What's this "bent gun" thing?
Probably the nose guns, they stick out the front of the ship and on the WM version had to be posed to the side to fit in the package.

I'm surprised anybody thinks that X-wing looks better than the WM version, I'm curious to hear why.

My set is arriving tomorrow.

figrin bran
04-27-2007, 01:19 AM
yes, the bent guns are the nose guns. it doesn't help that the gunship is screwed down tilting forward, as if it's nose diving. they really should have put the same sort of plastic wedge coverings that they put under each of the JSF's wings around the guns.

Darth Michael

What's this "bent gun" thing?

It's a crime! That's what it is. I actually like this repaint. But the bent gun all but ruins it for me. I'm having trouble reconciling this travesty with the $25 price tag. (I missed out on the BOGO, damn it. I could do $12.50 without angst.)

Two images attached.

You can see the bent gun clearly in the first image. If you look closely, you can see the reflection of the gun in the base so you know it is actually touching. The other gun even touches the base, too, giving it a slight curve.

Are they ALL like this? If you take it off the base, will the gun straighten back out? Does this version have a mounting hole underneath suitable for an Action Fleet style stand? The previous Ultra Gunship included an AF-ish stand.
.

Darth Michael
04-27-2007, 03:06 PM
As for the others...

As some have already said, the TIE is a yawn. Nothing interesting about the paint. And there are unsightly shiny screws on the inner side of each solar panel. Certainly not a $25 piece IMHO. And if you already have an Action Fleet TIE, then even $12.50 is a questionable price point.

The X-Wing paint is... creative. It strikes me like clown make-up. Random splashes of color on a white field. What's with the single yellow laser cannon tip? The blue candy cane striped cannons at 2 and 8 o'clock? There is some weathering present, and I always like weathering on these toys. But this weathering, against such a clean white background just seems... forced (no pun).

The JSF is welcome in that I don't otherwise have a JSF in this scale. The weathering isn't great, but it isn't artificial like on the X-Wing. Really my only complaint about this piece is the paint on R2-D2's chest. It's, well, lame. Really lame.
.

Jangu Fett

It's a shame Hasbro would release the Gunship, when they had to have known it would not fit right in the display case. It could almost be over looked, by Anakin's Jedi Fighter. That is awesome. All the pics due that ship no justice. They do that one very nicely then jam the RGS in a small case.

JediTricks
04-27-2007, 10:58 PM
Daaang, that is seriously bent! The barrel will straighten out if freed and encouraged, it's gummy material and that stuff is pretty easy to realign, but you shouldn't have to. It looks like they didn't put it into the correct far-back position and that's what caused the problem, but I can only judge on those photos.

.

Like JT said, the gun will straighten out. I'm not sure where my Action Fleet stands are right now but if i had to take a guess, i'd say no, there are no mounting holes suitable for the stands. the screws leave two holes on the bottom of the ship. one near the front, one near the tail section and so even if the holes were big enough for the stands, neither hole would be viable. if you use the hole towards the back, that's where all the weight is and the ship would probably tip over. if you use the hole towards the front, it would fall backwards.

i'm sure i mentioned this earlier but should you decide to remove it from the base, that in itself is quite an adventure. i ended up breaking off one of the support posts on the base.

My Rep Gunship's guns were NOT bent, amazingly enough- I guess I lucked out.

I,too, like the Red 3 coloration to the X-Wing, but the old Red 5 Wal-Mart original makes me happy.

TIE? I would have passed...I have an extra if anyone wants one :p

Really? I'm wondering: How was the ship mounted on the base that was different? Are the front mount pegs longer? Is the gun aimed higher?

JediTricks

I got my order yesterday:

Titanium Series Ultra 6" Jedi Starfighter - nice but I'm spoiled by the AMT/Ertl version which is far and away superior. The canopy feels really cheap, the deco and paint weathering is a little below par, the wings don't open nicely and stop at slightly different angles from each other, the body is thick like I suspected and the screw holes stick out too much. The detailing in the cockpit is very nice though. It's decent and whooshable, should have come out a lot earlier.

Titanium Series Ultra 6" TIE Fighter - this one is not exciting due to a straightforward paintjob and no features beyond the opening cockpit, but they actually did a better job with this than I initially thought, it's much more in scale than the Action Fleet one was because the center elements have been shrunken down. The wings look nice but are twistie-tied onto the pylons and have ugly screws holding the snap panel in place on the wing itself, the pylons and wings meet with plastic which is super lame since it leads to slight sagging, but you can treat the wings as blast-off panels this way. They could have detailed the cannons right and got more going with the thrusters on the back, but generally the detail is nice work.

The guns were aimed WAY off to each side and slightly upward- they look funny in package but they're not touching the shell or the base, so like I said- I lucked out.

I agree with you JT- the AMT/Ertl die-cast model I've had forever is better than the Titanium Anakin's ROTS JSF. What I don't understand is why Hasbro painted in the center hexagon of the front canopy silver? It's weird looking.

Probably a masking error, I hadn't even noticed that until now, sloppy! The packaging on mine came without the Star Wars sticker on the front logo, it's just a black bubble. :p

BTW, I forgot to mention, but I have the SWTF Sassy Tiin Ep 2 Jedi Starfighter and Republic Gunship and I don't know if the gunship is really as great as you say it is, the vehicle mode is nice but somewhat misshapen.

Me too. Love the vehicle mode, never like the TF mode. Ever thought of glueing all the critical points so that it won't break apart easily. At least the SWTF comes with figures, which could fit in the cockpits too. Good that the landing gears are included for the EP2 Jedi Starfighter but I think it's a bit short for its size.

Anyway, I re-ordered from TRU for all 4 vehicles and they sent a confirmation email that the items had been shipped this morning. woo hoo! Can't wait to get hold of them.

I would never glue them just because the areas are often crucial to transformation, plus I like the articulation.

I like the Ep 2 Jedi Starfighter, the hyperdrive ring is way way way too small but it does kick the set up to the same amount of product as the others.
