the name given to the bundled Endor Soldiers.

I received my notice for them today! These are more of the figures that i can not wait to get my hands on! I think it will be awesome to get some military figures. I don't care that they are not armored troopers. I like the Imperial troops, but i also like the rebel troops and we don't have any really good 3-3/4" rebel troops. And as I am getting extras of these...I very well may have to get some other sideshow figures to do head swaps to have even more Endor Rebel Soldiers.

Edit - By the way...the bundles set is 10 days from the warehouse according to the email I got today.

With every day that goes by. I get more and more excited to get these. Three figures in one hit, and rebel troop-builders on top of that...next week will be a good week.

got them about 15 minutes ago. I am diggin' on them. Or at least Nik Sant so far he is the only one I opened. His hair is no where near as white as the proto. There is no white paint in it. It is about the color of a brown egg shell and is washed for a dirty effect. I like it better this way. I'll get pics up soon.

Edited to add a pic.

Mine shipped. Can't wait for these guys.

I just got mine about 90 minutes ago. They are sweet! I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

I haven't opened them, but they're to be saved for the day that I can and I can set up a diorama with them versus the Hasbro Death Star Troopers, AT-ST Driver, and several of their Imperial Officers. I want to make a mini-Vietnam out of it since I can't collect earth military figures (enough stuff with Star Wars already). With my stormtroopers and Ewoks in completely different scenes, this will look similar to a Southeast Asian brush-war and turn out very cool.

I don't need SideShow Imperials. Hasbro's will do. I really look forward to setting this up and just might get my Imps out of storage to "test-set" it now in my current apartment. In a home, I'll have indoor planters on a stairway landing or something like that which I envision creating this scene for.

Like I said, I haven't opened them, but I seem to be very satisfied with them!

Oh, you get ranks with these guys:

Nik Sant is the Lietenient
There's a sergeant
There's an infantryman who you might assume is a corporal or private

Of course, Han Solo is their general!

great shot there Darth Cruel...can't wait to see more...
...won't have these guys til next week.

Thanks Jedibear! In this shot, I took some liberties with the accessories, and here is why. My experience in the military taught me that uniformity is a necessity for many reasons. Therefore, a sergeant and a non-rate would generally be wearing the same equipment. Officers and special forces generally have a little "cooler" equipment and are given a little more leeway to add things that may not be issued, but that they find necessary. In that light, I outfitted the Sergeant and the infantryman in like fashion and I gave all the unique equipment to the figure who is both an officer AND a special forces representative.

Oh...and I wanted Han to borrow that duster until Sideshow comes up with one.

Cool Cruel. Very cool.

Darth Cruel
04-14-2007, 10:41 AM
One other thing I noticed. No big deal...but on the list of accessories it describes the short-sleeved jacket as a vest with a rank insignia. But the Pathfinder (who is supposed to be an officer) and the infantryman (who I assume to be a non-rate) have the same rank insignia. I therefore accept those items as electronic equipment and not rank insignia. Sometimes we have to adjust.

New Thought:

I display my 12" together in dioramas. Not as intricately as the ones I plan for 3 3/4", but it is to say I don't place Greedo with figures that belong on the Death Star.

I use SideShow alongside of Hasbro (except when Hasbro's sucks so bad I can't - had to buy Anakin SS to fight E3 Obi-Wan because Hasbro's was that off)

But I put Hasbro Lando Skiff next to the Endor Rebel Soldiers just because I thought they were a little tall. While it might be the packaging, it doesn't seem to be. The Endor Rebel Strike Team appears to be made up of 13" figures, rather than 12". They also almost seem taller than other SideShow figures I own (but my Ani and Obi-Wan are posed with their knees bent, fighting each other so it's hard to tell for sure).

But could the military line be using a larger body?

Anyone able to more easily compare theirs? (I pose mine then rarely move them).

Pretty much right at 12", Tycho.

Just how good is the paint app on this figure? Look at how I got red-eye when I snapped this shot!

That begs the question if Hasbro's Action collection figures are then actually 11"?

Darth Cruel
04-14-2007, 07:15 PM
Yeah. If Obi-Wan is 6'. Then his action figure should be 12". If Ewan M is shorter than 6"...then Temura Morrison is REALLY short.

Yeah. If Obi-Wan is 6'. Then his action figure should be 12". If Ewan M is shorter than 6"...then Temura Morrison is REALLY short.

Temura sure appeared shorter than Ewan in AOTC...
...and that makes that medicom Jango even more appealing than it already is, at least scale-wise. Now if only Sideshow would do a AOTC Obi-Wan...but I have a feeling THAT'S going to be awhile. (probably "Old Ben" and TPM versions first, which believe me...is just fine).

Now to pull things back on topic here...I really like that group shot that Darth Cruel posted...my question is (for anyone who's got 'em)...how does the camo compare (mostly color-wise) with the Hasbro duster and poncho? I was hoping to put the poncho (from the Target Luke/SpeederBike release of a few years back) on the Sideshow Jedi Luke for a few shots with the Troopers if it looked comparable...thoughts?

How very coincidental that you should post that query as I am comparing them.

The first is Sideshow and the second is Hasbro. Hasbro's does not lay very well because of the elastic band inside of it. I intend to remove that and see how it works. These pics are just a color comparison.

Darth Cruel

Here is a run-down on a few of the heights of the characters for a comparison.

Chewbacca - 7'-3" (likely an inch or so taller because of makeup)
Darth Vader 6'-7" (likely an inch or so taller in the armor)
Qui-Gon Jinn - 6"-4"
Han Solo - 6'-1"
Obi-Wan Kenobi - 5'-10.5"
Luke Skywalker - 5'-9"
Jang Fett - 5'-7"

So, if Sideshow did exact 1:6 scale, none of these characters would be a perfect 12" action figure. But Han Solo would be closest at just a hair over. Here is a comparison photo. Nik Sant comes in at pretty much an even 12". Han Solo is arguably slightly taller, depending on how much credit you give his hair for adding to his height. Qui-Gon Jinn comes in pretty tall compared to the others. He seems to be about right. Obi-Wan has been into the Ent Draft. He is too tall for the scale. So it seems to me (and I have mentioned this a few times) that if the Medicom Figures are a little shorter. They should be pretty close to correct in scale when measured up to the Sideshow stuff as far as height goes. I have read posts that mention that the smaller scale includes arms that are too thin and such. But I am looking forward to getting a Medicom Clone Trooper so I can find out.

Well, SideShow doesn't scale their bodies. They just use a regular 12" base figure and clothe it and offer head and hand sculpts.

Great picture though. I like how you created Han Endor with the sergeant's trench coat.

By the way, your picture is continued spot-on evidence that Obi-Wan is the best figure SideShow has ever done.

Sideshow does have different height Mannequins. 3 I think. They used a "short male body" on Luke' and a "tall male body" on Qui-Gon. But I do not think there is very much difference between the 3. The pic shows the difference in height between the 3. I used one each that Sideshow's website says they used each of the bodies on.

And the height on Obi-Wan takes nothing away from the figure to me. I am in agreement that they have done none better. I do think there are a couple others done as well, though.

Edit - The height difference between Qui-Gon and Luke is only 3/4". So it seems that there is only about 3/8" (rough guess) difference in the heights between each of the 3 mannequin sizes. I think I will strip down these figures and do a comparison shot of the mannequins.

I meant to mention to you that I saw a pic (I tried to find it to no avail) that someone had put the poncho on this Luke and it looked very good (as does yours). They used the one from a Leia and added the helmet. It seemed to work nicely as well.

I have all 3 of the 12" Speeder Bikes. I am seriously wanting to open a couple of them so I can have Luke and Leia (when she comes out) on one. But it is very difficult for me to do as I have no room for them right now.

Tycho
04-16-2007, 02:52 PM
I have 3 Speederbikes: Luke and 2 scouts. I declined on Leia, as she was smiling like a Barbie and I really want her and Luke on the same bike anyway.

I'm hoping it won't be too long before SideShow does a Leia Endor.

Curiously, my Hasbro Jedi Luke 12" is next to me on my desk with my whole SideShow Jabba's Throne get-up. I like his face sculpt and his Jedi cloak better than SideShows! (This is a very rare occurance - but I never bought SS Luke, as I didn't need him - and I a positive outlook on that decision was just reinforced by your picture). Alternately, SideShow has a better wardrobe on him (minus the wrong color cloak).

Well, I finally got the Sergeant unpacked and outside with the rest of the Squadron....

Here's some more shots from Endor...

I'm really enjoying these guys....I know everyone (myself included) is clamoring for some armored characters, but I'm hoping they announce a "bundle" of Hoth Rebels soon...it would be great to have those end up in the fourth quarter, just in time for the snow....

In the meantime, let's enjoy Endor...

Tycho
04-20-2007, 10:54 PM
Those are such cool shots, JediBear! It's a testament to the quality of the sculpts of these figures, too.

Now I know you have the Endor Speeder Bike set (or single-pack Scout) from your previous picture. You have the Hasbro NON-ARMORED Imperials, right? (Death Star Trooper, Officer Cap Variation, AT-ST Driver, gray Naval Officer uniform - all Hasbro)

I think they'd look pretty good in action against these guys. That's my intended direction to go with this collection.

Now I have Snowtroopers, the AT-AT Driver, and an Electronic 14" Vader to place on Hoth, but I don't think I'm down for adding Hoth Rebel Soldiers into that set-up myself. I'd love to see what someone else does with it though.

What I do want to do is, I have Hasbro's Ackbar figure, and Wedge from the 2-pack, and I've put in R2-A6 as his droid, I want a Lando General figure from SideShow and 2 Rebel Fleet Troopers to add to this scene (possibly Nien Numb and a Mon Calamari Officer) and recreate "Home-One." Maybe with some other random pilots as well.

Also, damn, I had forgotten how ugly that Han figure really is, your pics reminded me.

In your next post's picture with 4 figures together, is Obi-Wan's head big or Qui-Gon's head small, or is it just that Qui-Gon is standing behind Obi-Wan?

The height difference between Qui-Gon and Luke is only 3/4". So it seems that there is only about 3/8" (rough guess) difference in the heights between each of the 3 mannequin sizes. I think I will strip down these figures and do a comparison shot of the mannequins.3/4 of an inch scales up to 9 inches, so the diff between those 2 figures is actually greater than it would be in real life (if we were to assume that Mark Hamill really is 5' 9" which I'm not sold on) as the difference between their heights is 7 inches.

While I anxiously await the Strike Force's arrival to my neck of the woods, I thought I'd "Endor-up" Luke...Wow, that looks great! Is that from the Hasbro speederbike? That's the one I didn't get. :(

I think of Sideshow's Luke more as the Death Star 2 Luke and the Hasbro one more as the Jabba's Palace version.

I received my 2 endor soldiers the other day. These are just great!
I think Sideshow announcing the military line was more exciting to me than any of the others.
I had always been wanting to see 12" renditions of the various rebel pilots, soldiers, and imperial troops. I am so happy it has fallen to sideshow instead of hasbro to bring these creations to life.
Anyway, I cant wait to see what comes next.

I am in complete agreement with you on this. I read a lot of dissatisfaction with the character choices Sideshow makes for release. I have no problem with it at all. Core characters first just does not matter to me. All I want are good figures...period! I am excited for ANYTHING that is to come and the militaries line is just as exciting to me as any other line or character. Hoth Rebel Soldiers, Rebel Fleet Troopers, Stormtroopers, Sandtroopers, Snowtroopers, Biker Scouts, Rebel or Imperial Officers...bring them ALL on! And bring on the Clones! Bring on the Naboo Military! Bring on the Battle Droids! Come one, come all! Even the Gungan Military will be a welcome choice to me!

Yes, the poncho and belt are from the Hasbro set....the green doesn't quite match the new Sideshow take on the camo but ironically, the Hasbro looks closer to the color it was on screen...

Daaamn! I never really thought that speederbike was quite big enough to pull off 1:6 scale (I still don't think it is technically) but damn if your figure doesn't look amazing on there and make the bike look better! It's the poseability, stupid Hasbro's crap 12" bodies had worthless elbows and knees.
