Sideshow Announces New "Extras and Ancillaries" Collectibles

Imagine the galaxy without the bustling residents of Cloud City hurrying about their business, or Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen's house without that familiar pitcher of blue milk. Without these common elements that are sometimes taken for granted, familiar settings become something other than themselves: in a word, unknown. At that time, the unnoticed becomes noticed, and peripheral becomes central.

In this world bursting with heroes, villains, foils and mentors, it is often the unnoticed that truly defines each distinct and palpable environment. From the wondrous art and architecture of Cloud City, to the dusty hearth of Aunt Beru, each background character and element serves to support a greater purpose to the story. These extras and ancillaries thus become central to the plot in ways that were previously unimaginable.

Without the interaction between every citizen of every spaceport, from Coruscant to Mos Eisley, no matter how trivial or prosaic, this world of Jedi and Sith would be a very different place indeed. Quite often, the motivations for the main players in any epic battle arise from these commonplace occurrences and characters, which reflect the state of affairs in the galaxy, and without which the galaxy would cease to exist.

The everyday tools, fixtures, furniture, and other accoutrements that populate the galaxy are equally as critical. What would the Ewoks have used to secure the brave Rebel scouts on Endor without the immediacy of their sturdy tree branches? Plus, it would have been very difficult to repair Luke Skywalker's missing hand without the aid of a well-designed hospital gurney onboard the Rebellion's Nebulon B-class medical frigate.

These so-called 'secondary' creatures and objects have taken up residence throughout every corner of the galaxy. Many may seem mundane when viewed in contrast to the sheer abundance of colorful heroes and villains that abound, but each has taken its rightful place of distinction in the destinies of those who would shape history and bring balance to the Force.

Sideshow Collectibles is proud to announce the Extras and Ancillaries line of Star Wars 12-inch figure figures. Stay tuned to our weekly newsletter for the first glimpse of the premier character in this new category: Kal'Falnl C'ndros (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Kal'Falnl_C'ndros) - coming soon!

I posted at Sideshow that giving the line a stupid name like that was all anybody needed to figure out the joke. I told them that something like "Denizens and Diplomats" would have been more believeable

They should pack that figure with a 12" realistic style Peter Griffin so we can re-create their 2 infamous fight scenes and ..... wait, that was something else .......

OK, so E&A has been outed as the AFJ we all expected it to be. But I still say that as a 6th line, "Denizens and Diplomats" has a place.

When are they going to make Jar Jar ?

LOL...unless they have a drastic change of heart...I belive they have pretty much relegated JarJar Binks to the little mentioned 7th line of 12" Star Wars figures called:

"Dream-Ons and Hold-Your-Breaths"

Which is unfortunate. Jar Jar would seriously make a nice looking figure.

I actually agree with that. I am not a JarJar hater. I actually like the way he looked even if I thought his disposition was unfortunate. I would like to get him in the Senate robes from Sideshow. The Naboo rags from the Hasbro one would suffice until a Naboo-costumed JarJar could be done by SS in the future.

Hasbro already did an adequate Jar Jar figure for the Ep 1 line though. And really, who's likely to buy it?

Completists would buy him. Are there completists in this niche of the hobby or are they a more selective bunch?

Regardless, JT is right that the Hasbro 12" was pretty good. I bought that one on May 3rd 1999 along with Darth Maul and Qui-Gon Jinn.

I...I...must admit to my completionism extending beyond the Hasbro 3 3/4" line and into Sideshow's. In fact...I buy one of everything to keep in the package (and I buy variations as well) and an extra of the things I REALLY like to open...and I have to admit to liking every Star Wars figure Sideshow has put out so far.
