What do you think are the most recognizable song intros ever? What songs do you hear the first two notes and say, "YES! Rock!"? In terms of recognition, I mean to everyone. I could tell you any Weezer song by the first two notes, but I don't think a random sampling would know more than one. Also, lyrical intros don't count. I have a ton, but I'll start the list with:

"Welcome to the Jungle"- GnR
"Smells Like Teen Spirit"- Nirvana
"Lust for Life"- Iggy Pop

Rocketboy

"Vasoline" - Stone Temple Pilots

"Sweet Home Alabama"-Lynyrd Skynyrd

"Crazy Train"-Ozzy Osbourne (maybe because it starts with him screaming "ALL ABOARD!!!" at the top of his lungs)

"Jump Around"-House of Pain

"Crazy Train"-Ozzy Osbourne (maybe because it starts with him screaming "ALL ABOARD!!!" at the top of his lungs)
Still, even if you cut out Ozzy's screaming, the "heartbeat" baseline is hard to forget!

"Down in a Hole"- AIC
"Shout at the Devil"- Motley Crue

"Sweet Child O'Mine" - Guns N Roses - you know that song just by me mentioning it.

"Rock You Like a Hurricane" - Scorpions

"Rock of Ages" - Def Leppard "Alright. I got something to say... It's gonna burn out! Then fade away..." (and I won't even try to spell the beginning words)

I've got a good one:

Separate Ways - Jouney!

Actually, a lot of Journey songs have great musical intros.

Duel of the Fates by John Williams has a great vocal intro. "Corn on the cob! Corn ON the cob!" ;)

"Funeral For A Friend" --- Elton John

Seem appropriate since I've worked two shootings, a stabbing, an assault with a shovel and another assault with something we're not sure about...but is left a nifty mark. Then only easy thing has been a run-of-the mill vandalism.

*Sheesh* and summer isn't even here yet!

"Rock of Ages" - Def Leppard "Alright. I got something to say... It's gonna burn out! Then fade away..." (and I won't even try to spell the beginning words)I didn't notice this when it was first posted, but you got the lyrics wrong. It should be "It's better to burn out than fade away."

A Beatles tune with a good intro would be "Day Tripper".

Thanks MSP. For a second, I thought you were going to try and spell the words spoken in the very beginning.

I'm not a True-Pink Floyd Fan, but I like their stuff. Is it "Money" - the name of the song that starts with the cash register noises? That's a classic song intro!

Frankenstein - Edgar Winter GroupWhich is featured on Guitar Hero I.

You've Got Another Thing ComingAlso on the first Guitar Hero.

Sharp Dressed Man - ZZ TopAnother "Guitar Hero classic".

every song on Appetite For Destruction - Guns n Roses"Sweet Child o' Mine" is on Guitar Hero II.

I could probably come up with another dozen from GH that are recognizable as well, but the MOST recognizable are:
"Godzilla"- Blue Oyster Cult
"Spanish Castle Magic"- Jimi Hendrix
"Smoke on the Water"- Deep Purple (which may have been mentioned already)
"Take Me Out"- Franz Ferdinand
"Bark at the Moon"- Ozzy
"You Really Got Me"- The Kinks or Van Halen
"YYZ"- Rush
"Freebird(!)"- Lynyrd Skynyrd

Adding a couple more non-GH songs to the list:
"Sweet Caroline"- Neil Diamond
"Spinning Wheel"- Blood, Sweat & Tears

darthvyn
05-11-2007, 01:39 PM
20th century boy was mentioned already.

basically anything by AC/DC is almost instanly recognizable.

house of pain should be stricken from the record, because every one of their songs sound exactly the same and can't be told apart from one another, save for "jump around" only because of the sampled trumpet fanfare at the beginning.

of course "i like to move it move it" is very recognizable from the outset...
