I just had my first live draft of the season

QB - McNabb, Delhomme
WR - Fitzgerald, Ward, Chambers, T. Glenn
RB- R. Johnson, Benson, Norwood, K. Jones, Dunn, M. Bell
TE - Witten
K - Stover
D - Broncos

KH, in our league settings, there doesn't seem to be anything for passing yardage!!! rushing and receptions are 1 point per 20 yards but there's nothing for passing.

Not too bad there figrin, as long as McNabb can stay healthy and R. Johnson gets the opportunities (which he should) and converts them. I had R. Johnson last year and was somewhat disappointed in his overall production. He is definitely a solid RB and can produce, but he didn't load up and score as many points as I had hoped he would. I'd still have him on my team though. :D I hope Benson has a good year, and it was smart to grab Norwood and Dunn.

My first live draft is this Friday... I can't wait.

FB, do you have another TE on your roster? That looks like the only spot I would be concerned with if that was my team. Witten is good don't get me wrong, but he doesn't always get alot of receptions.

figrin bran
08-23-2007, 01:44 AM
Heels, I don't have another TE but no one else really drafted backup TE's so I'm not that worried. There's a few sleepers that weren't drafted.

UK, I think Rudi was on my SSG championship team last season so from my perspective, his production was great. M. Jones-Drew went right before the pick where i got Cedric Benson otherwise I would've drafted him instead.

Yessir, tomorrow night at 11:30.

Well, I went 6-7 so I was hoping for bigger and better things. :p But he is a great back, very consistent (overall) and I would definitely have him on my team again.

Cap, ideally that should work but I just want to warn you that when I opened the Live Draft room with Firefox last night, it didn't load properly and so with time running out, I had to switch to IE. I'm not sure it's a one time glitch or if it's a Firefox wide glitch.

Sorry, I wanted to draft live this time around in the SSG league but I had another draft this evening that just now ended; this is the league that I have been in for many years and the pay out is over $500.

Here is who I ended up with in that league:

QB - Brees (keeper)
RB - Westbrook
RB - Marion Barber III
WR - Torry Holt
WR - T.J. Hous
WR - Darrell Jackson
TE - Tony Gonzalez
K - Nate Kaeding
DEF/ST - Chargers

BN - QB - Pennington
BN - RB - Lendale White
BN - RB - Leon Washington
BN - WR - D.J. Hackett
BN - WR - Dwayne Jarrett
BN - TE - Owen Daniels

FYI - Tomlinson, L. Johnson, Steven Jackson, Addai, Gore, Willie Parker and a couple other top RBs were keepers and were unavailable, so I think I did pretty well considering.

BTW - I'm pleased with my automated draft in our SSG league; Larry Fitz, Jav. Walker and Deion Branch are good WRs, Westbrook and Reggie Bush are solid RBs, Tony Gonzalez is a very solid TE, as is Shayne Graham for a kicker. Pitt Defense should be above average so I'm good there. Not extremely thrilled about the QB situation in Leinart and Steve McNair, but they are both pretty decent.

I love Firefox but I'm never using it again for yahoo live drafts. That's what I'm worried about. I'm not comfortable with Romo or my RBs besides Addai. I'm going to have to pick up another RB because I only have 3, and 2 are from the Falcons. Maybe I should try trading one of my WRs. The only free agent RBs are all backups.

J&H, I can't find it now, but I was reading somewhere that they expect Pennington to lose his starting job before the end of the season.

Oh yeah, its a big debate especially on Jetnation..kidhuman can tell you about that.

Pennington will be lucky to get through the season as the starter. This year's schedule is more difficult, plus if the preseason is any indication of how things might be, Kellen Clemens will be under center.

Well, in my big pay league I lost in the finals by a mere 5 points. The first place payout was $580 and 2nd place takes home $140, which is what I will receive. If I would have started Kurt Warner over Drew Brees, I would have won. Oh well, maybe next year.

Not sure how I am doing in our league. I'm playing this Thomas Jones fellow (;)) to advance to the finals. I don't have live scoring so I don't know what the score is, but he still has LT to play tomorrow night. :nerv:

The player for the Jets, not necessarily the FF team. :)

Looks like Thomas Jones needs 37 points from LT tonight... not gonna happen. :D So it looks like I'll be playing this Nachos fellow in the finals; hell, I still can't believe I made the playoffs!

Best of luck to ya DQ!

And thanks for the score update figrin, I saw your post late last night when the scores weren't updated. I take it you payed for the live stat tracker?

Yes, I did pay for it as I've several yahoo teams this week and it helps me sleep better (or worse) on Sunday nights.

In my other leagues, I reached 2 Championship finals - Team 1 was 10-3 going into the playoffs and was the #1 seed. Result - loss

Team 2, meanwhile, was 7-7 and backed into the 4th and final seed. The only reason I got in was due to a tiebreaker (point total for the season). My semifinal opponents' big guns - Brady, Braylon, Marion Barber all had subpar outings that week and that enabled me to pull off the upset. For the title game, I went up against the 3 seed and it came down to tonight's game where Jay Cutler got negative points for him. It wasn't pretty and it wasn't expected but I ended up winning. If I was going to win any league, I thought Team 1 would be it. Anyhow, that's fantasy football for ya.

Word, beyatch. Best of luck.

I took third in my other league (got my $10 registration fee back at least). I got nailed by Brady's off-week vs. the Jets. I rode his pretty coat-tails all year, so it didn't surprise me that as soon as he had a bad week I'd lose. I just wish it had come sooner than later.

The Dreamboat always comes later than sooner, he's a real gentleman that way.

His timing seems to be off, though, as evident by the bevy of Brady seeds popping up in supermodel tummies.

and he knew that is was much more than a hunch, that this crew must somehow form a family, that's the way they all became the Brady bunch.

Congrats to UKWildcat for knocking off the first place team (ME!) in the championship game! Kurt Warner and Larry Fitzgerald were just a tiny help to you this week, eh? :)

Good work, ol' chap.

Thanks everyone!!! I'm still having a hard time believing that my mediocre team made the playoffs.... and (now) won the championship. I know I have skills and all, but come on, my team was 7-7 in the regular season. Mad skills I guess. ;)

Thanks buddy. Warner and Fitz went nuts. I usually don't like owning a QB and WR from the same team (under most circumstances) because if one has a bad game, so does the other. Fortunately Warner and Fitz have both been pretty solid all season long, and I feel Warner should start ahead of Lienart next season, but this will probably not happen.

Like I said at the end of last year, I would be down with a keeper league next year, and a possible move to CBS Sports. I would also like to vote on a 16 game season, not 17 games. Playing 17 games can screw some people over b/c a lot of teams rest their studs in the last week.

We should also only invite people who are more serious about the fantasy; I've noticed multiple rosters of people starting people who are on Injured Reserve, or not playing certain weeks due to injury. It just makes things much more competitive and more fun when everyone plays seriously and plays to win. Thats one of the reasons I stopped doing Public leagues, because most people who don't get great players in the draft never seriously compete in the league making things more lopsided and less fun.

Thanks again for the congrats peeps. I'll due my best to repeat next season.

BTW - Cappy can keep Brady primarily because he has milked him of all his seed which has now rendered ol' Tommy useless.

UK, that's fantasy football for ya! Even "mediocre" teams can get on a hot streak and pull off upset after upset. The same thing happened to me with a 7-7 team. I only got in the playoffs because of a points tiebreaker.

Like Cap, I'm in favor of a 16 game season. If you worked hard to get in the playoffs, you shouldn't have to scrounge the waiver wire to pick up Todd Collins just because your Peyton Manning is only going to play a few series.

As for "dead" teams, it is frustrating but the way I look at it, if you don't want to take on the responsibility of keeping up with your team, then you deserve to lose. :p

I just like the layout, columns and free live scoring (which is awesome btw) over at CBS Sports, and I believe they give the commish more options. But Yahoo! is alright too. After all, they do have a Fantasy Profile Trophy Case, and mine finally has a Championship Trophy in it. ;)

I'm with that. Yeah, I was hoping you were going to keep Wayne and Addai active b/c I knew they weren't going to play long. ;)

And sure, dead teams can create easy victories (and don't deserve to win, even though they do sometimes ), but if a person doesn't, or can't, keep up with a week to week roster then I don't think they should play. I just don't think it is as fun or competitive... and this will almost NEVER happen in a pay league, because of the seriousness and what not. And it kind of screws the few people over that aren't able to join our league because of spot limitations; I would be kinda pi**ed off if I was unable to join a league (that I knew I would compete in) only to discover that another team took the roster spot and didn't play or do anything that season. I don't know, maybe I am putting too much thought into it, or I am taking it too seriously (I know, it is supposed to be for fun), I don't know. And I don't mean to offend or tick any people off who maybe did not keep up with their team or gave up on it because I know, things can happen and things come up to prevent or force that.. but it sounds like, just like after the end of last season, that we may want to make this league a little more serious (keepers, etc.) and what not... so this is something we may want to consider.

Either way, I am pleased that you all have adopted me into your Fantasy Football league the past couple of years and I now have my first Yahoo Championship trophy! :D Thanks guys... and may there be many more seasons of SSG Fantasy Football!!!
