Anyone else catch this show? I thought it was pretty good. Funny and all. Rebecca Demorney, Ed O' Neil, Luis Guzman(who I just find plain old funny) and a few others in it. Surfing, freaky stuff going on. Whats up with Johns magical pockets? He seems to pull whatever people want from them.

Not sure what to think of this show yet but I wasn't really impressed with the premiere. Rebecca De Mornay seemed to be overacting quite a bit and the story and dialog seemed a bit convoluted. I'll give it a few episodes.

I thought the show was pretty good; it definitely gained my interest. I'm very curious to see where it is headed too. It appears to be a pretty wacky show, which I like; original too. I didn't know much about the show prior to watching it so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised with the content though. So far I like all of the characters, even though I'm not familiar with some of them, the casting was pretty well done. Ed O'Neil's character is great. I like surfing too. Yeah, I can definitely get into this show. Can't wait to see next week's, and like I said earlier, can't wait to see where it is headed.

I will catch it later this week, I didn't want to start a new show right away with The Sopranos ending...the only show that I could have watched to take away my sadness would have been a new season of Deadwood.

So I'll give John a chance this week.

Wow! I'm really digging this show! I thought tonight's episode was really good; I'm definitely getting hooked.

That Dr. looked a hell of a lot like Dr. Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) of Re-Animator fame.

Dayton Callie (Charlie Utter from Deadwood) was a pleasent surprise. I love this guy, he did a wonderful job. Hopefully he'll be around more too. (Remember, I still haven't seen Deadwood Season 3 so no spoilers please) :D

Anyways, what an ending that was. I was kind of expecting it, but at the same time, I didn't see it coming. Hell I don't know, its hard to explain. I thought it was really good though.

One interesting thing to note, tonights episode took place one day after last week's episode, wonder if that will be the format all season?!?!?!?

So did you end up catching this show Caesar? If so, what are your thoughts thus far?

I thought Ellsworth from Deadwood was damn funny in the show.

Hell yea!

As for Deadwood characters on the show:

John: played Morgan Earp
Freddie: Charlie Utter
The Doctor: Played Francis Wolcott
Joe: Ellsworth

There are also supposed ot be more showing up including Trixie and Hugo

Tonights Episode was great. I knew the kid wouldnt die, but I didnt think Zippy would do it. Must have been something from when he touched him in the prior epsidoe.

I'm not sure what to make of this show yet, either, but I'm liking it. I think it may become my newest viewing guilty pleasure. Far from being a prude, I wish they'd tone the language down a bit, tho. I think that part is over done (reminds me way too much of the Lannys and Lannettes I deal with in my job....sorry, that's what the Yost's remind me of).

I agree with KH, the Zippy twist was great! I didn't see that coming at all. I figured John would come to the rescue. If the show keeps having twists like that, I will keep me watching. John's innocence is also a crack-up. The bathroom scene had me in stitches!

Oh man, I didn't see that one coming at all! I too thought John would heal him or something and whamo, Zippy takes care of business. Maybe how the bird was healed/came back to life allows it to transfer elsewhere?

I caught up on this show thanks to VOD and i'm really enjoying it. The first episode was iffy, but the second one seemed to finding a stride. I really enjoyed John and his scene in the bathroom and his random comments are great. And I find it odd that the earthquake happened just mere moments after John got decked. Coincidence? I think not.

I'm now adding this to the DVR shows list. Can't wait to see what happens next!

Pretty solid show tonight. I thought the whole "See God" thing was awesome. Joe, Butchie, Ki, the Spanish guy all feeling it. Freddie is damn funny, I hope he sticks around for a few episodes. Him and Bill was a great conversation. Even the bird pooping in Bills pocket had me laughing.

Mitch seems like he is about to F up his marriage. Even going into next week, he is at her Hotel.

What is your take on John? Not UK, but John from the show. I have heard alien, Jesus type, possibly an Angel. I havent figured it out yet, but trying to get your perspective(s) on it.

Too early to tell. It's still fun to speculate. I originally thought the obvious alien possiblilty, but I didn't think of angels. I like that, KH!

I really enjoyed last night's show. I plan on watching it again actually. You're right kh, the back and forth between Freddie and Bill was awesome. lol

I'm thinking Jesus Christ as far as John goes. John from Cincinatti. I know its a very common perspective but from what I've seen so far its the way I'm leaning, and it makes the most sense to me.

I'm really getting into this show, looking forward to next weeks ep. I'll probably take down or record the marathon this Thurs. night too.

Another odd episode tonight. I never saw Butchie and Ki(Adi Mudi) hooking up. Also I thought John would be able to heal himself, instead he used Joe to do it. I wonder if he called Cass to get him in order top make Mitch go back home instead of staying there. Luke Peryr is a staright up d**k on the show also.

UK, did you catch the dude from Deadwood on this one? He was talking with the Doctor in the beginning of the show at the Burger Joint.

Was finally able to catch up after seeing the first 3 eps over the weekend. I'm hooked now, I like the storyline and can't wait to see how it plays out. If we get to see it play out...

I really don't see this show attracting more than a cult following. And like Carnivale, HBO will probably cancel the show before we get to see the story resolved properly.

I'm still not sold on this series. The storyline just isn't that compelling to me and some of the acting is just plain bad (Shaun.) Still I'll hang in there if for no other reason than there is very little to watch on television at the moment.

I'll agree with you on the acting. Shaun has had some bad moments, especially in this past episode. Kai has also had some very bad acting moments as well. But overall, it's not that bad and I can live with it.

I'm sold/hooked on the show; although I thought this past episode wasn't as good as the previous ep. I still plan on watching it again. This show is really getting crazy though, I like it.

Here is John's speech which I think definitely supports the idea that John is in fact Jesus Christ:

"If my words are yours, can you hear my Father? Can Bill know my Father, keeping his eye on me? Can I bone Kai and Butchie know my Father instead?

"My Father's shy doing his business. Kai helps my Father dump out. Bill takes a shot. Shaunie is much improved.

"Joe is a Doubting Thomas. Joe will save Not-Aleman. Joe will bring his buddies home. This is how Freddy relaxes. Cup-o'joe, and Winchell's variety dozen.

"Mitch catches a good wave. Mitch wipes out. Mitch wipes out Cissy. Cissy shows Butchie how to do that. Cissy wipes Butchie out. Butchie hurts Barry's head. Mister Rollins c***s in Barry's face. My Father runs the Mega-Millions.

"Fur is big. Mud is big. The stick is big. The word is big. Fire is huge. The wheel is huge. The line and circle are big. On the wall, the line and circle are huge. On the wall, the man at the wall makes a man from the circle and line. The man at the wall makes a Word on the wall from the circle and line. The Word on the wall hears my Father.

"The zeroes and ones make the Word in Cass's camera. In the Word on the wall that hears my-Father-in-Cass's-camera, the good one Mitch catches doesn't wipe Cissy out. In the-Word-that-hears-my-Father, Cissy shows Butchie something else. In-my-Father's-Word, Cissy shows Butchie in Shaun. In-my-Father's-Word, Tina raises Shaun at lunch. In Cass's-camera, Butchie lays the court out for Barry, and Mister Rollins watches, and he doesn't c**e on Barry's face. In Cass's-camera, Butchie knows Kai kept the faith. In-my-Father's-Word, the Wave lifts them up.

"In Cass's camera, Bill doesn't bump his head on the stairs. In Cass's-camera, as long as he's being stupid, Bill gives Lois a kiss.

"In His-Word-in-Cass's-camera, the Internet is big. Nine-Eleven is big, but not every towel-head is eradicated. In His-Word, We are coming Nine-Eleven-Fourteen.

"In my-Father's-Word, Bill sees how Freddy relaxes. In Cass's-camera, Ramon wants to know who's hungry, in the courtyard and Room Forty-Five.

"In my-Father's-Word-to-come-in-Cass's-camera, Doctor Smith calls Ocean Properties. In Cass's-camera-to-come, my Father stares Not Aleman down, and Freddy sees Bill much-improved.

"You will not note my-Father's-Word, nor remember Cass's-camera, but you will not forget what we did here."

Thanks for posting John's soliquoy UK!

That last ep was a mental mind ****. I'm sure whatever audience this show had, it'll be 50% less for next week's episode :P

A great, and more down-to-earth, episode of John tonight. I really enjoyed it. This show has definitely captivated me.

Freddie's friend and his bad ink tattoo was something else. The reaction he received from both Cissy and the Dr. was great; and Freddie too "Don't you F'ing Die!" And the new owner of the Hotel.... all that was good stuff.

Bill and his stairs... was there no room up there, he was just sitting atop some stairs?!?!?

John was kinda held "in check" this episode, so to say. Him and his body-suit. I noticed that everytime they showed John they showed Kass immediately after (kinda strange). There is still something going on there... I have a feeling the same thing went on this week, as did last week, with him just standing in that field or whatever. Like at the end of the episode, when he was in his bodysuit (visiting everyone), and surfing with Butchie and Shawn, did they notice him as being there, or was that just a figment? Definitely plan on re-watching this episode...

It was good to see Link turn the tables on Mark Paul Gooselar; w/ help of the porn chick. Seems like this will bring Link more into the group, as opposed to being an outsider (now that he is one his own). Should be interesting to see how this plays out.

and BTW, where the hell has Mitch Yost been?!?!? He hasn't been a prominent role in the past few weeks.

Very good episode tonight, like I said, I'm in.... totally captivated....

I think Mitch is surfing in Mexico.

John just goes out to that field to "talk" to his father? We've seen him out there before, but I didn't know what he was doing. Looked like there's a prison in the distance. I'm still not sure what the significance of "Kass's Camera" is and what role she will play. I don't think the other characters always see John when he "appears" to them, though Kass immediately felt his presence last time.

Before John appeared to Link last episode ("time to get back in the game, Link") I was thinking that Link might be the agent of the anti-christ or the opposite of whatever John is. Link tried to split Mitch and Cissy up in order to get to Shaun. But now John has reached out to Link to include him in the "group." Plus Link is now on his own with enough start-up cash to sponsor Mitch and Butchie (and Shaun? - should he live).

Strange show, man, strange show.

I think the whole Shaun will soon be gone thing is going to be his mother taking him away. Kidnapping him. The season is about to end soon, so its anice way to leave it open for the second season.

A good episode all around. John popping in at the end was cool. I was unsure if he was a figment or if he was there, but Butchie and Shaun dont seem to care about much themseleves to notice.

Why is Freddie hanging around all this time? He really has no reason to be there as the doctor doesnt either.

The thing with Cass' camera:

The word is in her camera. She video taped a religious gathering. So, somewhere in there is the word and more proof that John is a JEsus type figure to me.

OK, kiddies, help me with this, please.

I love trying to second-guess this show, but I'm stumped on a big issue: why does Mitch seem to be the only character besides John to exhibit some sort of "power", i.e. his ability to levitate. No one else has anything extraordinary going on. Bill and Freddie have had dreams or premonitions, but that's not as spectacular as being able to levitate. Wazzup with Mitch?

Also, I haven't completely fallen for the possible religious angle of the show quite yet. Even though John seems to have healing powers, refers to his "father", and dresses in white, I don't want to buy into the religious angle yet, because it's just too easy now. I want more surprises (like Zippy with healing powers)!

Anyway, I'm still trying to figure out Mitch. Any ideas? KH, UKW, I need some more good ideas from you guys!

Well, The bird healed Sean and vise versa, Bill talks to the bird also, so some kind of telekentic powers there.

I still think its sopmething religious. I dont think John took Sean in next weeks episode.

Mitch is a strange one. Being out of the loop for three shows is confusing.

Kai(SP?) quitting was ashocker. I dont like the computer jacka55 either. HE annoys me(Duane?)

All in all I am very into this show. This and Big Love are excellent this season. I cant wait for Curb next month though.

I think anyone who come in direct contact with John will have some sort of power, whether we know what that power is right now, or not.

Mitch - Levitation
Shaun - Healed Zippy by touching him and...
Zippy - healed Shaun by "kissing" him. (give life, reverse death or illness? / applies to both)
Butchie - He is not getting sick from the withdrawl of not being able to shoot up heroin. Should be really really dope sick but is not.
Bill - Like you and KH mentioned, he can talk to Zippy and communicate with whom/whatever is at the top of his stairs in his apartment (his dead wife perhaps?!?!?) He could just be crazy though. Bill is still kind of a mystery to me, but I love him!
Freddie - kind of like Bill but more of the visionary kind and not necessarily communication? I dunno with Freddie either, still trying to figure that one out and I'm sure we'll have more answers as the season (and hopefully seasons) progresses.
Cissy - not really sure but it's likely she has some sort of power, other than being a huge ballbuster. ;) We'll probably find out hers a little later, maybe finale or something?!?!?
Cass - definitely has something going on with her and her camera
Barry (hotel owner) - he has visions and quite possibly sees the future and/or past events. Of course, he supposedly had these visions before coming in contact with John b/c he used them to win the lottery. But still, he had another vision about the bar and lets not forget the dead guy or whatever in room 24.

Like I said, some powers are known, others are not, or they are fuzzy at best. I'm sure more answers will become unraveled as the season pushes on, and hopefully more seasons after this one. It'll probably turn out that Link, the Dr. and Ruiz have some powers or sorts, we just don't know what they are yet?!?!? Joe too. He helped heal John. Not sure why John needed Joe's help to heal, when he can obviously heal himself; perhaps it was because he was too physically drained or lost too much blood or I don't know; could be a number of reasons?!?!?

Of course, this is all just my speculation.

If I left anything out anyone, please fill in - or if I screwed something up, please correct me.

Not sure exactly what is up with Mitch and why he has been away the past few episodes, but he will be making a return tomorrow night. Keep in mind though, kinda goes with what I said earlier; if I remember correctly, Mitch levitated shortly after coming in contact with John at the beach (when he was washing himself down with the gallon of water), and another time in the police station when John was present too.

John is the source of all this phenomenon and has greater powers than anyone. I'm still going with the religious aspect as far as John goes. He appears to people in visions, can be at multiple places and cause different effects to multiple people at the same time, can hold meetings and make people not remember or only remember certain things while they are unaware of such meetings, he can heal himself, he has magical pockets, the list goes on and on. Like I said, I'm still going with the religious aspect as of now... One thing's for sure, the dude is very special.

Shaun met John at the police station when they had to bail out Cissy for the incident at Costco or Sams Club; wasn't this prior to Shaun touching Zippy? Because Bill saw Mitch's shadow levitate in the other room, and wasn't this the first instance that Bill new something strange was going on? I could be mistaken, as it's been a while since those episodes, but I thought that happened before the Zippy incident. Like I said, I could be mistaken.

I think I'm going to have to fire up the HBO on Demand channel and catch up. My main problem is I'm unable to watch the show uninterrupted, so I miss a lot, not having the luxury of watching and concentrating.

Without going into great detail, we've recently taken my wife's sister and her young kids under our roof due to her marital problems, so our lives have changed substantially for now. We defer to my niece and nephew (rightly so) while they are going through a traumatic time. So, normal TV viewing has been put on hold for me for the past several weeks.

That's why I rely on UKW and KH to keep me up to date!

Ok, Shaun went to Bills house to to have Bill take him to the competition and Zippy was dead in the cage. Shaun touched him and he came back to life. He then saw Cissy in the back of the Police car and they pulled into the Hotel where they met John. Barry had a gun and Bill stopped him from killing himself. Iced Teeeye, sorry about your family situation, hope it all works out. One thing you might want to do is invest in a DVR or TIVO type system. Maybe even record John to VCR or something so you can pause them and take in the full brunt of it.

Alot of shows I record like this and then watch them when my kids are in bed so I can not be disturbed. Or give em some NyQil 20 minutes before JFC comes on.

Pretty good episode tonight. Not as eventful as some of the other episodes, but still good.

So it seems that John has actually taken Shaun; to where and for what? Can't wait to find out.

De Morna's acting was over the top tonight, borderline obnoxious at moments.

Bill was outstanding. Him carrying on the conversation with that other bird (that was speaking for Zippy?!?!?) was interesting. And Zippy going missing the same time as Shaun was kind of strange, I think it is more than a coincidence. I thought it was great how he inspected the food that was brought to the Yost house, lol.

Mitch finally returned, I was hoping he was going to slap Cissy. His chemist friend seems interesting.

The new video was something else, as was the drawings in that little booklet.

Seemed as Freddie was speaking to someone, which appeared to not be directed to his friend.

The sequence in the bar was pretty wild, with the Dr. and Barry. The guest from room 24 was there, as was Shaunie (again). Very interesting.

Can't wait to see how this all plays out, and it looks like we will find out next week during the finale. Speaking of which, finale already?!?! Damn, I'm going to miss this show. I'll be surprised to see if they bring it back too; probably turn out like Carnivale.

Correction: I refered to Ramone as Ruiz a few posts back. Knew it was a name that started with an R. lol

I was upset because they mentioned finale. I thikn they cut it short to sart production on the Deadwood movies, if so, its ok.

Zippy disappearing was odd.

Freddie was praying I think, in his own wierd way.

The figure doesnt have arms Ji'dai. You try posting stick figures here

As for Barry winning the lottery, John said his Father runs the MegaMillions so at some point before the first episode John may have appeared to Barry. Or else he got a "god bomb" (vision/message from god) as Stephen King would put it.

I was wondering what Freddie meant about what he "met" in that volcano 25 years ago. He's made reference to it before. I guess I've got to go back and rewatch everything again see what I missed.

There was also the reference to 9/11/14, supposedly worse than 9/11/01. End of the world?

From what I've read, a second season isn't planned or in the works. Hopefully all will be resolved next Sunday.

For some reason, the artwork of the stick figures in the video remind me of crop circles. Dunno why.

Obviously the two figures in the new video represent John and Shaun. Do the other figures (in the bar and the Avon books) represent other beings, as in where John's from, and where Shaun and others may be going? (Alien abduction....rapture?). Me thinks yes.

What struck me about last night's episode was the Chemist (aka Dr. Johnny Fever, babies!) looking out on the landing of Mitch's loft out to the spot where John's "father" seems to be (the rounded, framed structure....crude oil storage tanks had frameworks like that). He seemed to have a "knowing" smile to me. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out next week.

In the meantime, work here, SSGers. :alien:

.....and I like Ji'dai's work!

Yeah, this really doesn't surprise me; I doubt this show will be returning for another season or so. But I still don't see how they can wrap up/resolve everything in one episode. Should be interesting. :crazed:

Playing catchup (school work, work itself, etc) and only have two more episodes to go before I'm ready for sunday's finale.

1. The episode with the BBQ was INCREDIBLE. That whole dialogue by John was off the wall and had me thinking. About what, i dunno. It's easy to see that the events of the show are woven in that speech, but what does it mean for the future? John definately has some sort of otherwordly thing going on, but whether it's religious or whatnot, I can't decide yet.
2. THE CORPSE FROM ROOM 24. Holy crap. Like a few others, I lost it and didn't see it coming.
3. I did LOVE Barry's comment about the BBQ, "We should make these a fixture." I really like that character.
4. "Gram" is getting on my last nerve though; the last few episodes she's done nothing but shout and been a complete *****. Somebody needs to backhand her and slap some sense into her.

And the only rumor about season 2 was from a TV blog, NOTHING has been announced as definite. In fact, even the Wiki took down the rumor as it wasn't anything concrete. I believe Newsweek said that HBO is happy with John's following, so who knows? During episode 5, the show actually got HIGHER ratings than the previous week, so perhaps its catching on. k, back to it!

Is it just me or did this show end on a down note? I thought it sucked and didnt really answer anything.

yeah, I wanted a bit more. I think that the camo suits and the stick person are some sort of affiliation, maybe with a good sign of things as I keep thinking this will be the beginnings of some sort of good vs. evil thing, but i don't nkow. I'll be curious to see if it comes back for season 2.

Me too. WAY too much drama here at the ol' homestead this past weekend (brother-in-law came to visit....did not go well AT ALL!).

What I was able to see seemed shallow in its resolution, but like UKW, I want to give it another go before commenting.

Yup, I just read it too: http://www.zap2it.com/tv/news/zap-hbocancelsjohnfromcincinnati,0,4488084.story?coll= zap-tv-headlines

bummer cos i thought the show was very interesting. I hope Milch lets us know where he would've gone with it. dammit. I guess viewers dont' like shows that make you think and have unique characters and dialogue. Here's hoping that Barry and Ramon get their own spin off. It could be called: "Imperial Beach Motel." Id' watch it!

I just want to know how the hell Mitch was floating and why.

Another Deadwood alum made an appearance in the last episode, the Chinese boss. Seems Mr. Wu is a now a big-time San Francisco ****sucker.

The car salesman was ranting about a lot of things. I don't know if John put the whammy on him or if he was just on the same frequency. That guy is part of John Carpenter's acting pool, appearing in several of his movies. The car they buy is an El Camino, which means "The Road" in Spanish. Later John calls Linc "el camino."

I think the Chemist bit was a just an in-joke about the title and the actor's stint on WKRP in Cincinnati. He kept staring at that fenced in park where John talks to his father, but that may have just been some misdirection.

I still don't know what John meant by "mother of god" Kass/Kai at the end.

Yup, that will be out right after those new Corpselumber episodes come out.
