Short Round will be the Yarna of the Indy Line

I hope not. I think that title will go to Marcus Brody.

Brody's got friends in every town and village from here to the Sudan, he speaks a dozen languages, knows every local custom, he'll blend in, disappear, you'll never see him again.

So market research indicates playsets will sell for Indiana Jones, but not Star Wars?! Guess I should be happy we're getting any playsets at all from Hasbro anyway.

Yay! Go playsets!!!

I wouldn't put it past the Big H to make these playsets as bare minimum wall facades plus a few action features. Mustafar playset, anyone?

That'd be fine by me, so long as we're actually finally getting some playsets.

Btw, I hope that I'm wrong about all of this.

One will come with the only Short Round and Mola Ram released. It will be a FAO exclusive. The figures will be kitbashed from other figures with no resemblance to the characters.

We're just about three weeks out from Toy Fair. I'm getting excited for some big reveals for this line. I'm shocked nothing else has leaked out yet. Hasbro has really clamped down on their security.

Hasbro's Indiana Jones Line has Some Nice Items
Posted by adrian on Saturday, February 02, 2008

Whilst there was no photography on Hasbro's stand, I did get chance to check out their Indiana Jones line and see a few products not previously seen before...

We've seen the Indiana Jones fgures for some time now and opinions been a bit mixed. Some people love them, some people are indifferent to them, although I've not seen (m)any peple say they hate them. Still, I'd not been sold on the new hasbro Indiana Jones range until I got to see some of the other items they're bringing out.

So let's talk about vehicles, and here's where I am very excited. Everyone remembers the desert chase from Raiders... one of my favorite Indiana Jones scenes. Well Hasbro are doing vehicles from that scene

First up is the kubelwagon (or whatever german vehicle it is); basically a german jeep with a gun on the back. I didn;t spend too much time looking at that because I was looking at the truck and being shown some of the action features. For example a whip extends from the rear axle so you can drag Indy behind it. The front grill will also spring down to recreate that part of the movie. I did ask if the door slightly unhinges but it didn't, however the rear canopy was removable to covert it to an open flat bed truck

Of course to really complete that scene you'd need Indy on horseback, which is why I'm glad to report this is one of the deluxe figures coming out. Also expect to see a German motorcyclist in this range. I also saw a set of INdiana Jones and the Arc of the Covenant, Marion and a Cairo henchman 2-pack and something that had me jumping up and down for joy: a German Soldier 2-pack. Yes, Hasbro will allow you to amass the greatest number of Nazis since the Nuremburg Rally. For the benefit of the soccer moms reading, and just in case anyone was of any doubt, real Nazis are bad, but toy german soldiers are all about discovering history through role-play.

There were no single pack figures from the new amazingly long-titled Indiana Jones and the Kindom of the Crystal Skull (or IJATKOTCS - the only movie abbreviation, that itself needs an abbreviation) but they did have the playset from the movie.

Now it seemed really, really familiar and I couldn't put my finger on it at the time but now thinking about it, I'm sure that it at least uses parts from the Mustafar Final Duel playset from the Star Wars line. You know that lava pool on that playset. That was a bubbling mud pool. In truth I was a little disappointed as it just seemed like a mountain playset, and they're never too exciting.

There was one figure on the playset though, that made me think that if Apocalypto fans were ever looking for a playset and figure, this would be ideal for them. The South American Indian reminded me very much of the ones from the opening scene from Raiders and I found myself thinking it would be great if the story of Crystal Skull somehow linked back to that opening. Got a while to wait until I find out whether that happens or not, but the figures should start popping up before then.

Ha ha! I was just mentioning the Mustafar playset a few days ago and here it seems that Hasbro might've recycled parts of it for the movie playset! :p

I'm down with that whip for one reason and one reason alone -- kids are going to eat it up and drive the market for more Indy product. And my nephews are gonna love it!

That German motorcycle set is really, really cool. I can't wait to see the desert chase vehicles on Sunday.

BTW, what'd you guys think of the trailer? I thought it looked like a ton of fun -- really liked the whip gag, where he fell back into the truck. Classic Indy. My only thought after watching it was: "And why weren't they making a new Indy movie every 3 years? Did Firewall, 6 Days/7 Nights, et al really need to happen?"

That whip really does look bad.

What happened to the likenesses on these figures? They're totally unrecognizable now. Is it a paint issue?

Wow, those look like butt, I hope the production figures look better, there's not a recognizable sculpt in the bunch. I guess after the abysmal failure of TAC's main characters though, it's no surprise.

Also consistent with TAC, main characters are unrecognizable, secondary characters are fairly accurate. I wouldn't recognize Belloq from that figure though, it's more like they got the notes right, but the song is still not standing out.

The swordsman figure's body design looks pretty poor though.

The art on TAC was outstanding. It really highlighted the character, the environment...and did a great job of tying it together with a theme color. Some of them with were just gorgeous. I've never been a fan of generic card art though. I wonder if they're doing this to try and engage the kids with the INDIANA JONES character, using that as an umbrella?

I'm pretty stoked for the Deluxe packs, especially the MAP ROOM (http://i.toynewsi.com/g/index.php?mode=view&album=Hasbro%2FIndiana_Jones%2FDeluxe_Figures%2FWa ve_01%2F&pic=Indiana_Jones_And_The_Ark_0.jpg&dispsize=600&start=0) Indy and the STREETS OF CAIRO THUG (http://i.toynewsi.com/g/index.php?mode=view&album=Hasbro%2FIndiana_Jones%2FDeluxe_Figures%2FWa ve_01%2F&pic=Marion_Henchman_01.jpg&dispsize=600&start=0)

See I didn't have a problem with any TAC figures. Some of these just out and out look...well, not like Hasbro's better work. Maybe I'm getting too old for action figures! Maybe these look awesome to an 8 year old (or is the movie PG-13?) We'll see soon enough if these work. I have seen some early leaked copies (SCROLL DOWN (http://raven.theraider.net/showthread.php?t=13061&page=4)) and really they look fine.

Spotted the M&M's Indiana Jones promotional bags at Walgreens yesterday. The bags sport scenes from the older movies and are similar in design to the recent Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean promos. A new Mint Crisp variety joins old favorites Plain and Peanut for the Indy tie-in.

Get M before they're lost!

The Wave 3, "Round 1" case sounds pretty sweet:

1x Indiana Jones (Temple of Doom)
1x Indiana Jones #1 (Crystal Skull)
3x Indiana Jones (Last Crusade)
1x Henry Jones
1x Elsa
2x Young Indy (Last Crusade)
2x Grail Knight
1x Vogel

Wave 2, Round 3 apparently includes the TOD Indy as well:

2x Indiana Jones (Cairo)
1x Indiana Jones (Temple of Doom)
1x Cairo Swordsman
1x Belloq
1x German Soldier with gun
1x Ugha Warrior
1x Dovchenko
1x Irena Spalko
1x Mutt Williams #2
1x Indiana Jones #1 (Crystal Skull)
1x Indiana Jones #2 (Crystal Skull)

I talked to the pres of BBTS as I complained that some of the second wave Indy figures were too pricey and he said that the lesser figures were packed 1 a case over 3 cases. So, for a while, the following characters are one a case for a while: Cemetery Warrior, Dovchenko, Irena Spalko, Russian Soldier and Ugha Warrior. I guess the cases are concentrating on Indy and Mutt.

I also got a surprise in the mail today while I was grading: my Disney exclusive Indiana Jones figures showed up!!!

If you haven't snagged one yet, I REALLY suggest you do so. This figure is really solid and has a crapload of accessories. Here is a bad pic from my phone. The sculpt is pretty solid and the figure is 7''. Really good figure. I got mine (3 actually) via the e-bay.

I picked up Indiana Jones plain and peanut M&Ms (http://photos.sirstevesguide.com/showphoto.php?photo=27185) at Walgreens this afternoon. Mars candy is on sale this week with a coupon (http://photos.sirstevesguide.com/showphoto.php?photo=27186) so 14oz bags end up being 1.75 each, which is not a bad price for M&Ms. The candies have arhaeological glyphs and skulls on them in addition to the letter "m."

Also spotted bags of the "fun-size" Snickers Adventure Bar but wasn't feeling adventurous enough to try them. I've read the new Snickers bar has a limited, six-week production run.

The promotional candy bags are numbered 1 through 16; each bag has a different trivia question on the back.

My #10 bag of plain M&Ms has the following movie trivia: "Harrison Ford and Sean Connery shot the entire zeppelin sequence of The Last Crusade without wearing any pants."

My #7 bag of peanut M&Ms states that "The Car driven by Short Round in Temple of Doom is a 1936 Auburn Boattail Speedster."

It's cool anyway - a larger and not more expensive scale doesn't exist (though there may be a few exceptions outside of Hasbro with less expensive licenses.) In fact, the trend recently has been for figures to get smaller in scale due to rising plastics costs as opposed to getting larger (which if you think about it wouldn't make sense any way.)

Hasbro won't comply to that. Their 6 inch Iron Man line goes for $9.99 per figure. It seems unusual that Hasbro's been creating a monopoly on the action figure market and controlling prices, then would have the nerve to say nobody else is comparable.

Zizzle's animated Pirates line is larger and cheaper. TMNT too.

Indiana Jones & Willie Scott (Wish he was in his Tuxedo)

Mola Rama & Temple Priest

And here's some new 3 3/4" figures we haven't seen yet.

Dr. Henry Jones (Sean Connery) w/ Grail Diary, Briefcase and Umbrella
Elsa (Alison Doody) w/ False Grail and Pistol
Young Indy (River Phoenix) w/ Cross of Coronado, Whip, and Snake
Grail Knght (Robert Eddison) w/ Sword and Holy Grail
Vogel (Michael Byrne) w/ Baton and Pistol

Love all five of them. The detail on the Grail Knight and Vogel is great!

Agreed Binksy; those new figures look fantastic!!! It's really cool we're getting a figure of young River Phoenix Indy.

I hope that the Knight comes with "solemn waving action!" Or if Henry Jones, Sir could come with "Blasphemy slapping action!" Or how about Elsa coming with "fiesty make out gnawing on ear action!"

That would be terrific. :love::love:

That Playskool-style Willie Scott is too funny, best likeness I've seen on this style so far, doesn't say much about Kate Capshaw though. :p

What's with Henry Jones' cokebottles? Hope that figure looks a little better in person.

Elsa seems a little off and generic, but somehow makes it work.

Young Indy is really good, I dunno if the likeness will survive the production process but that proto looks spot on.

Grail Knight looks decent, hopefully those elbows will have range of motion once it comes out.

Vogel is whatever to me, looks a little pinched in the face but a'ight.

Here's a case where they shouldn't do removable glasses on a figure.
Interchangable heads with glasses or no glasses would have worked better.

Elsa seems a little off and generic, but somehow makes it work.
She does? She had a pretty generic look in the movie also.

Young Indy is really good, I dunno if the likeness will survive the production process but that proto looks spot on.
Hopefully it does. Hope that we get Fedora and the other guys also.

Looks like a ball joint, but yeah.. we'll see.
Funny that Last Crusade seems to be offering up the best figures.

Vogel is whatever to me, looks a little pinched in the face but a'ight.
I think that's more to do with the removable cap. Something else I wish they'd use interchangable heads for. Since the hats or heads always end up looking off.

Like all the protos we've seen these look pretty good. Hopefully the figures we see in stores don't suffer from a decrease in quality.

I'm not too impressed with Henry Jones' eyeglasses either. I think it would be better if manufacturers would just leave the lenses out. NECA's Harry Potter figures suffered from the same cloudy plastic lenses in the eyeglasses.

They put the red armband on Vogel, nice touch there. Where's Donovan though? He's a central character in the Last Crusade. We also need Marcus Brody.

We'll probably get a Dan Akroyd figure before Short Round. Or maybe Hasbro will just buy up and repackage all of Zizzle's POTC Marty figures for Shortie. I want Lao Che and his sons too.

I don't collect SW Galactic Heroes and hadn't planned on getting the Indy ones but I may buy them all. I'm so starved for Indy stuff I'll know I'll be blowing tons of money on the toys this summer.

You're thinking of Donovan probably (as played by Julian 'General Veers' Glover.) He's the character that drinks from the false grail and withers to nothing. Vogel is the German Tank Commander assisting Donovan in his quest for the grail. Yeah, it'd be great if the eventual Donovan figure comes with an alternate withered head.

Thankfully it looks like Wal-Mart's prices on Indy will be better than Target's.

Basic Figures: $6.94
Deluxe Figures: $9.86
Vehicles: $19.76
12" Figures: $19.76
Adventure Heroes: $6.39
Role Play: $19.76
Akator Temple Race Game: $18.96
Indiana Jones DVD Adventure Game: $19.96
Indiana Jones Monopoly: $28.96

Also, the contents of the Temple of Doom wave have shown up on Wal-Mart's computers. Nothing really surprising here, just what we expected.

ToD Indiana Jones
Willie Scott
Short Round
Mola Rama
Temple Guard
Temple Thugee

There was also a few other things listed...

Deluxe Mutt Williams w/ Cairo Swordsman
A 2nd Cargo Truck (Possibly U.S. from KotCS)

Adventure Heroes - Indiana Jones / Henry Jones
Adventure Heroes - Indiana Jones / Elsa
Adventure Heroes - Grail Knight / Vogel

Deluxe Mutt Williams with Cairo Swordsman, eh? Geez, it's time for Lucas to leave the scriptwriting to someone else.

Basic and Deluxe figure prices aren't that bad, but the Adventure Heroes are way too high for me. WM's prices on 12" and vehicles are reasonable.

I'm sure we'll see some sales too around the movie's release. I'll probably have everything by then though. Suppose I can always take my receipts in for a price correction.

I'm hoping that Indy toys will actually be out on the sales floor May first. I wonder how big the marketing promotion for the movie will be. I found ROTS toys nearly everywhere, including supermarkets. Competition tends to drive prices down when more stores carry the product. Speed Racer movie stuff is everywhere around here, even at dollar stores.

I got hold of two of the German Soldier 2-packs at Wal-Mart today (they were all that was left when I stumbled on them - great figures, though!) They were definitely not yet in the register system and I had expected trouble, but I was pretty happy when they didn't ring up at register and they still didn't bother to fight me. One of the floor associates actually had a shelf tag (presumably taken off the pallette and brought to register for whomever it was that made off with the rest of the case) ready to go and she had the cashier ring them off of that. That marks my personal best ever shopping experience at Wal-Mart - the bar was set pretty low. For the record: according to the shelf tag, the price for the deluxe at Wal-Mart is $7 and change.

I think for the most part with these figures Hasbro remembered how to do balljoints and thats great. I hope they apply this lesson back on Star wars in the rest of '08 after a pretty woeful year for balljoint quality in 07. Apart from a mere 2 characters in this Indy line (mutt&young indy, and even they might not survive mass production) facially resembling who they're supposed to be I think these figures look really well done. It pains me to say, on behalf of my future financial situation, that I'm tempted. Collecting Star Wars, Hot toys 12" figures and Indiana Jones?? Its like what they say about smoking - the easiest way to quit is to not start...

:thumbsup:Thanks for the advice. Although the last 2 times I went they didn't have 'em, this last Friday they had a ton, so I bought one (this was a broke trip or I would have gotten 3). It's a good figure, the head sculpt works for me, there's some angles where it doesn't translate, but enough where it does, especially wearing the hat. The figure overall looks good and has some decent poses in it, but the lack of swivel articulation below the ball-hinged shoulders and hips does put a damper on things, and the head only nods, doesn't turn (I turned it, seems to have nearly broken the square peg it's sitting on). Accessories are good, though I don't really think the base is as important as whomever designed this, but the whip, pistol, and fertility idol are great; and the sword, grail diary, and what I assume is Lao Che's antidote are ok too.

I picked up the full wave one set at K-Mart on Saturday (K-Mart's prices are really freaking high on this line, a few cents more even for the basic line than the German Soldier two-packs I'd bought at Wal-Mart last week, but I couldn't resist.) The figures are all great, although there are definitely some issues with the paint apps on the faces (Indy in particular, unfortunately.) The sculpts themselves all seem pretty spot on though, and with a bit more quality control (these are the first shipment after all) things could really greatly improve. My Indy figure's eyebrows are painted a bit too high and there's too much white in the eyes, but the silhouette in profile is perfectly Harrison Ford. It's really not a big deal to me with figures of this scale (though this will surely mean the end of life, the universe, and everything for several of our fellow forumites here) but I might repaint my figure someday just for kicks. The local K-Mart also had both the mid-size vehicles in stock and on shelf as well - the jeep and the cargo truck. I skipped them for the time being as I'd actually already spent a small fortune on action figures for the week before I came upon them.

Looks like I'll be paying $6.94 for Basic figures, Deluxe $9.86, and Adv. Heroes $6.36. I was hoping basic figures would be cheaper. It's going to be expensive army building with this line.

Disappointed with the toy section, I ventured over in WM's grocery and found some more Indy food promos. Watch out for specially-marked packages of Kelloggs cereal. Some cereals come with light-up spoons (in 3 colors) while others have a mail-away offer for an Indy flashlight. The "adult" cereals (Mini-Wheats, Corn Flakes) have a mail-away offer for the Raiders of the Lost Ark DVD. PopTarts boxes feature a mail-away offer for an Indy canteen and Dr. Pepper has an instant win game.

Cemetary Warrior and Russian Soldier are ONLY in the Wave 2 - Revision 2 Case.

Marion, Sallah, Monkey Man, German Soldier and Dovchenko may also be harder to find. Though these figures are in two different case assortments.

The Jungle Cutter may or may not show up. Getting mixed reports.

Stopped by Target on the way to work tonight. They had had the wave one figures, but were pretty much sold through by the time I got there. All that was left were the German Soldier and Cairo Swordsman (hopefully they have more for the folks that'll surely be looking tomorrow morning!) They also had Taters of The Lost Ark, the role-play items, and a couple of the twelve inch figures - Mutt and Cairo Swordsman. The twelve inch Cairo Swordsman actually looks pretty cool - he's definitely been pulled off better than the others in the line, and it's pretty cool to see something different on the shelves in that scale than the usual caucasian soldier types.

How was my shopping time tonight? Take a gander at the pic to find out.

I'll post a more complete list tomorrowish, but I didn't find Marion or four of the deluxe figures. No worries as they'll be EVERYWHERE tomorr- err, later today.

I gotta say I loved ripping through cases again and hunting. It was like EP II and EP III all over again. :whip:

Picked up 2 different Indys and Sallah today at Target. The whole display was up next to Star Wars. It's cool to see a new line.
I really like the Indy I opened (KotCS with jacket on). Nice Harrison Ford representation.
I am sure a lot of folks will find this line useful for Star Wars customs, as they are nicely articulated, and will be good for cantina patrons, etc.

I was at TRU by 10am today, but no sign of anything. :( I asked at customer services, and was told they were in today, and were being put out as we spoke.:D He told me where to look, but all there was was Lego. :frus: I asked again, and this time was told a whole aisle is going over to IJ tomorrow, but the delivery should be in today. :) They weren't sure though, but if it wasn't on today's lorry, it wouldn't be till next week. She's going to phone me if they come in later today, but I won't hold my breath.

I went to 2 Wal-Marts and 2 Targets this morning -NOTHING! The pegs wernt even set.

Went to TRU and they had a section set right in front! They had all the basic figures, but NO Marion either. They only had half of the deluxe figures -NO 2-packs or vehicles. There was only 1 Spalko.

But I did get Raiders and KOTCS Indys, Spalko and Sallah.

Thanks for the advice.

Glad you picked it up, Chux! I really love the figure and despite its lack of articulation, it still looks awesome on my bookshelf. The head is also pretty solid and doesn't move much, which you discovered. The only accessory I was "huh?" on was the little thing that looked like a peg; turns out its the anecdote.......to the poison you just drank Dr. Jones!

I had great luck last night/this morning. All of the staff I encountered was incredibly helpful and willing to assist me, even bringing out more cases for me to find the Cemetery Warrior, which was awesome.

When I got up today to do more hunting for Marion and the last four deluxe figures, I didn't have nearly as much luck. The WM I called said he was going to put up the figures in half an hour, so I rushed there so he could put up ONE MEASLEY case of figures. He REFUSED to bring out more for me to look at and I found it incredibly hard to believe that his mod only had a space for 3 pegs of figures (my buddy who is a toy dept. manager near dayton told me about his mod for Indy and it was something like 20 pegs, but I digress). He then said that "all wal-marts did this" and I flat out told him he was a liar as I had seen more boxes and larger mods a few hours previous. I left.

I headed to a few meijer stores, all of which had pegs, but no product. I found Marion at K-Mart, which was good, despite the slightly higher price and two cashiers at the jewlery counter who refused to ring me up as they were chatting while the only cashier was serving another customer (ya know, people wonder why online sales are so high? Well, it's cos we don't have to deal with angry retail people, but I digress). I headed to Target that had about, if memory serves, 5-6 pegs of regular figures, and 3-4 pegs of deluxe, none of which i needed. I headed to TRU and I ran into some other collectors. THe staff at TRU said that they were not doing an Indy display for TWO MORE WEEKS?!?!!!?!?!? That can't be right and if it is, it's ridiculous.

I came home and made some calls to my buddy who is a toy dept. manager at a wal-mart near back home. He was setting up his mod for Indy and he agreed to hold the remaining four deluxe figures and my mum snagged them about an hour ago.

I'll post an official list of finds here in a bit.

My 1st stop was my luckiest...new SuperWally in Glen Burnie, MD. Picked up all of wave 2 except Cemetary Warrior, Russian soldier & Mutt w/snake(found them at another WalMart; only 1 of each), both 12" Indys, German convoy truck, all deluxe(but they didn't have Marion or Germansoldier 2-pack) & Taters of the LOst Ark. I'm now sitting down to watch Raiders again.

I had a very similar experience. I went to two Walmarts that didn't even have the area set. My TRU had some basic figures, no deluxes. They had the Cargo Truck. They also had the Adventure Heroes sets. There weren't any playsets. Everything was either Raiders or Crystal Skull, no Temple of Doom or Last Crusade stuff, though I wasn't expecting any.

I bought the Raiders basic Indy with the idol, an Adventure Heroes set with basic Indy and tribesman and the Adventures Heroes set with Belloq and the Ark. The only other thing that has been released I want and haven't found is the Deluxe Indy and the Ark.

It seems like this is a really soft opening. I kind of expected piles of figures and decorations on the shelves above the pegs in all the major stores. Frankly, I think it is smart of them not to drown the stores. I think this is a Collector's line and will not believe kids drive this line. I don't think Crystal Skull will do as well with kids as Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, or Prince Caspian.

It may be smart to produce limited quantities of the line, replenish them as needed and allow the future waves to get into the stores without having the pegs clogged with the first wave.

Cut to tomorrow when the stores have everything out and figures are flowing out the door.

Yep, my stores pretty much sucked as well. No figures out at Wal-Mart at all. Asked one of the toy department guys, who went in the back to check. All they had was the 12" figures that he could find. Thankfully Target was a better hit. Unfortunatly, all they had was 2 cases of Raiders figures and 2 cases of one of the Deluxe Assortments. No Kingdom of the Crystal Skull figures what so ever. But I got an extra 10% off my figures at Target for applying for a Target card, so that was cool.

Picked up the full RotLA wave. Managed to find decent paint jobs on all of them. Almost left Marion and German Soldier, since I got the 2-Packs. But I decided to get them for the artifacts and the slight variations. The only Deluxe figures they had was Indy/Ark, Marion/Cairo Henchmen, and German Soldiers 2-Pack. Almost grabbed the Adventure Heroes, but I didn't want to drop anymore money today. So far, I'm really happy with all the figures except maybe Marion's lack of articulation.

I got the RotLA Indy's -- both the regular one and the action feature one, to swap the heads out. I was going to get Marion, Sallah, and possibly the Monkey Man but the facial paint apps on nearly all the figures in this line so far are horrible. The only decent Indy face is on the whip-cracking one. Belloq looked pretty good but I have zero interest in that version of the character. They should have done him in his white outfit instead.

Beast
05-01-2008, 04:28 PM
I'm sure we'll see a Belloq (White Suit) figure in a future wave. Maybe in a 2-Pack with one of the Hovitos. They can offer more Hovitos in the single carded figures. Remember they based the first wave pretty much on the original figure line from back in the day, except for the lack of Toht and the German Mechanic. And frankly Belloq in his Ceremonial Garb is more memorable to most people than he is in his white suit.

Had much the same experience with stores in my area. Either little or no product or it just hadn't been stocked yet. The toy mgr. at one WM that had reset but not stocked was nice enough to go back and bring out all the stuff for me while I was there.

I saw all but Marion from the first two waves today. Paint jobs were so bad on many figures that I didn't get complete sets. Many of the ones I did get will be returned as I find figs with better paint jobs.

The 12" were pretty bad. The vehicles were really cool looking but I wanted mint boxes since I'm going to display them. I was impressed with the Adventure Heroes; it's going to be hard to resist them. TRU's $5.99 price on them beats WM's so I'll probably get them there.

A few other things I spotted today:

Hasbro Milton Bradley Akator Temple Race Game (WM $18.96). Little army-men Indys race to the top of a temple column. Nice window box.

Food promos - CHEEZ-IT and Keebler crackers (both Kelloggs brands) have mail-away offers for the Raiders DVD. Another Kelloggs brand, EGGO, has a mail-away for the Indy flashlight.

And here in Indiana, the state lottery has Indiana Jones scratch-off tickets.

Heh. Hasbro should pay me for pushing their stuff. But yeah, the Indy Adventure Heroes are sweet. I really like all the mail-aways that Hasbro is offering. Huh?

I did have to go to Wally World this morning about 3AM (it was the only place open, and the smoke alarms picked a bad time to start chirping that the batteries were low). They didn't even have a place for Indy figures, and no boxes in the aisles.

Too bad about that 12" Ark mail-away though. I'm not sure I can bring myself to buy the dolls I saw today. The Indiana Jones with whip action and the Cairo Swordsman were passable. I didn't care for the likenesses on the talking Indy or Mutt Williams.

A side-car would've been a nice mail-away for the Deluxe line. I'd like a motorcycle with sidecar for both the Raiders desert chase and the Last Crusade chase.

I'm not sure how well these figures would fit into a side-car without it being really oversized and out-of-scale next to the motorcycle. Maybe a Henry Jones fig with detachable legs so you just stick his torso into the side-car instead of the whole fig.

Beast

I don't think the 12" look all that bad. But, I'm not interested in getting them myself. I'm at a point I'd like to sell my 12" Star Wars figures simply because I don't have the room for them anymore. The 12" Ark is pretty darn cool though. :)

As of now, I am only buying a few pieces, mostly for the Harrison Ford factor, but I would definitely get a motorcycle w/ sidecar with Indy and Henry Jones.
I also want the 12" Ark, but no way want to pay 80 bucks worth of 12" for it. I might buy a 12" Cate Blancett character, maybe even 2, and then would suffer through an Indy and something else.
I wouldn't have thought twice about 20 bucks a pop 10 years ago in the height of comparable 12" Star Wars. Today, they are not as appealing.
Maybe we will find em on clearance before the October mail in deadline.

So far I'm really digging the RotLA Indy, though as I mentioned I had to switch heads with one from the whip-cracking Indy. I love that he has a clip on his belt to hang the rolled-up whip. The holster for his revolver even has a working button!

I guess my only complaints are that I had to buy 2 Indy's to get a decent head for this one. I also wish that his hat was removeable, and that he didn't have the frickin' shallow foot peg holes. (The whip-cracking one has the usual deeper peg holes.)

I saw these at Wal-Mart for the first time today and I'm really disappointed with the final product of the 3 3/4" line and the 12" line is laughably bad.

HORRIBLE paint applications on the 3 3/4" figures. Seriously what's Hasbro doing here? Almost every Indy figure had lazy eye and that sucks because I've wanted a decent Indiana Jones figure for decades now and this is the best that Hasbro can churn out? Fortunately, I was able to find one decent ROTLA Indy today, so that's fine. Not a great paint job, mind you, but acceptable.

The 12" Indy figures have some of the worst Harrison Ford likenesses in the history of action figures. Awful.

However, it's not all bad. The Adventure Heroes line is awesome! I picked up 2 sets, the one with the Ark and the one with the German Mechanic and I might get some more later. I think I'm just going to focus on Raiders figures for this line. I know you have to collect all the AH sets to get the mail away Indy with Horse, but those will be on Ebay pretty soon, so I'll just buy it from there.

Also, I really like the package design on the vehicles I've seen. Really well done and they just look like quality toys.

Irena Spalko and the Ugha Warrior are ONLY in the Wave 2 - Revision 3 Case
Cemetary Warrior and Russian Soldier are ONLY in the Wave 2 - Revision 2 Case.

Marion, Sallah, Monkey Man, German Soldier and Dovchenko may also be harder to find. Though these figures are in two different case assortments.

Well, the College Lecture Playset with Professor Indiana Jones sold out pretty quickly around here. I was told at one WM this evening that they had to pull all the IJ stuff from the shelves and hold it until Monday.

What with the stimulus checks going out, all these movie toy lines hitting shelves, and Mother's Day coming up maybe all the retailers are planning on a huge sale circular for this Sunday.

I didn't find much in the way of figures today. Pegs were picked clean of everything but a few Mutts and Bazooka Indys. Didn't look like anyone partook of the Adv. Heroes in my area.

Pegs were bare again today. I don't think stores here ordered enough product. One dept. mgr. at a WM here told me that they will probably expand the Indy section beginning next week. Apparently they print new shelf tags and labels on Monday.

I've spent a little over $200 on Indy stuff in the last two days and I've still passed on quite a bit due to paint problems. I hope Hasbro is in the process of fixing the paint issues on this line. Anyone open anything yet? I opened one of my Deluxe German Soldier w/ Motorcycle I bought.

I picked up four more of the Adventure Heroes sets today, so I have all 6 of the Raiders sets. Of course I opened them all up. I think I'm going to focus my attention on Raiders and maybe a bit of Last Crusade. I'm not going to buy anything from the new film until after I see it.

Anyways, I'm really liking these Adventure Heroes figures and I noticed a minor variation in the packaging of one of the sets. The set with Marion and Indy w/ Staff of Ra had two different inner blisters. One set had the Staff pretty much hanging freely, which caused the staff to bend from the weight of the amulet. In the other set, the blister was cradling the amulet to prevent the staff from bending. I picked up the one with the bent staff because I liked the paint job on Marion better.

I'm not super concerned with package variations, but I thought someone out there might find this one interesting.:)

Even though, Hasbro's 12" are $20, they might as well be free. "Fugly" doesn't even begin to describe how bad these train wrecks look in person.

What happened to Quality Control within Hasbro?

I had to look very hard to find a decent Indy - best one so far is the Bazooka one -

I have picked up most of the Raiders wave, and part of the Kingdom wave - passed on Mutts, though

I am digging these little 'lost artifacts' as they are pretty cool and preferred to yet another stand!

Despite my loathing for the 12" versions, and due to a moment of weakness and a $5 Target coupon, I just bought a Whip Crackin 12" Indy. Figured I'll set him up next 12 1995 Han 12" and pretend I bought in 13 years ago.
Anyway, if anyone HAPPENS to buy a single random 12incher, and doesn't want the mailin sticker, I'd be glad to take it off their hands. Other wise I might have to bite and buy a couple more down the road.
Funny though, there was a "talking Indy" 12 inch with his hat tipped over his face in the package. I think the fiure did it himself knowing no one would buy him if they saw his ugly mug.

It would be great if Hasbro did this format with their build a droid parts. A little carboard shipping carton (spacey looking of course.) They could fill up an Xwing hanger diorama, or the new Falcom cargo bay!

I had to search 3 Targets, 2 TRU's and 1 WM just to find the figures that I wanted. Turns out the TRU closest to my home had most of what I wanted...both KotCS Indys, Raiders Indy w. jacket, Sallah and Cemetary Warrior. The other stores either had only Mutts and Swordsmen or had not put out their figures yet.

I also ended up with 2 of the Lego sets - River Chase and Jungle Duel

Wait a second....

I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but the frigging girl with three seconds of screen time who wrote "Love You" on her eyelids got immortalized in plastic before Shorty, Mola Ram, or any of the other Temple of Doom figures?

Please tell me this is a joke.

Edit: never mind. I'm dense.

Whoever approved the likenesses on those 12" Indy figures probably needs to lose their job. They really are THAT bad.

But at least this is a reminder of why Hasbro's 12" Star Wars line was always seen as a joke.

Isn't Sideshow coming out with a 12" Indy figure?

Got a nice surprise today.... TRU called me to say they had a few Indy figures in!!! They even offered to keep one of each for me..... I'm not used to that kind of good service from TRU!

So I went straight there, and scored the following:

Indy with jacket,
Whip-cracking Indy
Belloq
Sallah
Cairo Swordsman
Monkey Man
German Soldier
Deluxe Marion with Cairo Henchman
Deluxe Indy with Ark

They had at least two of each to choose from, but I actually thought the paint apps were mostly very good, certainly a lot better than the ones I've seen pics of online. Some of the accessories were very bent in the package, including the hat on one of my Indys.... but these were all easily sorted with a dunk in boiling water.

That's all they had .... the only one I passed on was the basic Marion, as it was too similar to the deluxe. I think we'll soon be swamped with her, so I might pick her up later if she's reduced, just to get the relic. The basic figures were 6.99 each, and the deluxe 9.99.

So there were only Raiders figures, no Crystal Skull, no vehicles, no 12". They were just on the end of a single shelf, alongside the Lego. I think the only wave 1 figures they didn't have were the German Soldiers 2-pack, but they are shown on the packaging, so hopefully they'll still show up (the UK is very often shortchanged on the waves).

I've just opened four of them so far. And I got another surprise inside.... I've not seen this mentioned anywhere else, so I'm not sure if it might be a european (and Australian) exclusive...... inside each of the relic boxes, there's a sticker, and with each basic figure, there's a redemption form.... collect 6 stickers, and send off for a FREE (not even pay postage!!) Crystal Skeleton Figure with Throne!!! :D:D

Found Irina Spalko today at Wal-Mart. So now I just need a good Dovchenko. Then to grab the KotCS Indy and Mutt figures. Oddly enough, the Wal-Mart I found her at had no Deluxe. And the other Wal-Mart have Deluxe and no single carded figures.

Re: The Crystal Skeleton w/ Throne. It's been discussed a bit here. And you might want to check the offer as the figure isn't Free. You have to include a check or money order for $5.99, at least here in the U.S. But still, I can't wait to get mine. I have two books already ready to go. Now to get the AH Indy w/ Horse.

I am so loving the Indy action figures. I've been wanting them since 1995 or 96 when I got into collecting Star Wars figures. Just sorry I had to wait so long for it because I have very little room for it.

I'm strongly considering boxing up some of my Star Wars stuff to make room.

Right now I plan to make a RotLA Truck Chase diorama. I have the Cargo Truck and the German Soldier Two-Pack so all I need are Deluxe Indy with Horse, the Jeep, and more German soldiers.

The Cargo Truck and Troop Car are on the top of my list along with the Indy w/ horse. I should've bought the vehicles when I first saw them. I did see the Indy w/horse but passed due to paint problems. Paint jobs on the figures definitely need to improve before I start army-building.

I'd also like to do a Desert Chase diorama. I counted the soldiers in the scene and there are 9 in the truck and 3 in the troop car. Plus if we get the motorcycle w/sidecar and the staff car that will be three more. So 15 soldiers total. And we need Belloq, Toht, and Dietrich.

The Ark procession has 22 soldiers led by Dietrich, Toht, and Belloq with Marion in tow. I'd love to have figures and accessories from the opening of the Ark: melted Toht and Dietrich, Ark Ghosts, and electrocuted soldiers. Hasbro could use those "Force lightning effects" from the SW line for the electricity that shot through the soldiers.

This line has a lot to offer historical military buffs too. Here is a shot (http://s3.tinypic.com/vwvbpt.jpg) I took today of a small viginette with the Deluxe German w/motorcycle and three 21st Century Toys German soldiers.

I have two of the Deluxe German w/motorcycle and need two more for the Last Crusade motorcycle chase. Plus the motorcycle w/sidecar with Indy & Henry. That'd be a great little playset if Hasbro packaged the motorcycle w/sidecar with the crossing guard shack.

I saw all 4 of the 12" figures out now, Mutt looks a'ight but I can't imagine why anybody would want that. The whip-crackin' Indy looks not so good, but it was the talking Indy that was downright painful, made my $90 promise to Sideshow for their figure feel so much more justified. Even the hat is done wrong on both Hasbro's versions.

Figs were sparse around here on Friday, I saw the Swordsman and Mutt, that was it, neither got a purchase out of me. There was a ton of that awful whip though, that thing is a laugh and a half. And the Adventure Heroes, lots of the sets that apparently are unpopular, none of the cooler characters.

For Hasbro 12", I've only seen Mutt and one of the Soldiers (Russian? didn't look very carefully at them) which both look passable so I guess all the venom that many of you are spewing are at the Indy 12" which I haven't seen yet.

That whip has to be one of the most poorly executed ideas from Hasbro this year at least. Oooh look, it's a brown cloth snake.

I don't know if maybe we're getting a slightly later batch over here, but what I've seen so far have generally been excellent. As good as their SW figures anyway.

Still very slim pickings though... I've just found a tiny IJ section in Woolworths.... 10 basic figures: 1 of each of wave 1, with 2 each of Indy with jacket and Marion. No deluxe at all.

Managed to find all of the basic figures from Waves 1 & 2 over the weekend -- love them all. Love the relics, love the sculpts -- just a great set of figures. All of mine had Star Wars/G.I. Joe quality paint apps -- no goofy eyes at all. Didn't see any of the deluxe sets...saw the ROTLA vehicles, but passed for now. This line will be my focus for the year. I may skip Star Wars altogether in 2008 (except for the BMF, of course.)

Seriously, these are NOT easy to find here in LA. The only basic figs I've even seen on the pegs were both versions of the Mutt Williams character. (Actually, I totally will eventually want the Mutt as James Dean fig as I "know" Shia in the vaguest sense in that he's good friends with my best friends son. Crazy, he was always the goofy guy with the Disney show, and now, suddenly, he's in one of my favorite film sagas of all time. Bizarre. Not slagging him here at all, it's just strange to think that I can buy an action figure of somebody I actually "know.")

So far, I have managed to see all the deluxe figs in stores. (Target) And really like them immensely. INDY WITH TRAP is pretty sweet. Okay, the figure is only average in terms of articulation, but he looks great. Nice paint on mine anyway. And the trap playset/base is pretty cool actually. The table with the idol makes for a neat display piece and the big carved heads that make up the trap look great as part of the floor. In fact, I like this so much I am going to pick up the other deluxe set that attaches to this with the pit and the tree. These mini-playsets aren't the most Movie-accurate by any means, but they have a fun retro "vintage" feel to them that I like.

Also sporting this groovy old school vibe is the INDY WITH ARK. Love the amazing softgoods on this one. They really work well. And the Ark is awesome! Although why it comes with this Indy is a bit of a mystery. . . And, uh, where is the staff? You know, Hasbro, the one you actually even mention on the back packaging?! Oh, well, I've got a feeling we'll get it at some point. And I am feeling forgiving as the Ark is so cool. Can't wait to score Belloq so he can open it up and find. . .

two pistols
one whip
one pouch of foolishly traded sand

Yep, the Ark makes a great storage compartment for Indy accessories. The lay so nicely atop the painted sand.

PS --- As many have complained about, the paint apps are pretty much all over the place. I looked at over four Marion two packs only to find that all of them were so awful, I was destined to remain Marionless. I gotta tell you, I am beyond bummed that she is the weak link in this line. Her sculpt is mediocre at best. This is especially maddening when the Elsa figure looks so frigging awesome. . . Karen Allen deserved better. And, um, why no Crystal Skulls fig for her? I'm totally bummed, she's like this gay boys favorite character! C'mon, Hasbro! Show the lady some love!

I don't think we've seen the "Indy" flood of figures just yet. I think most stores are pushing the latest for the week...eg "Iron Man" and for next week "Narnia". There's even some "Hulk" stuff out already (which I'm sorry...looks awful like the trailer does) and some "Dark Knight" stuff is showing up too. It's gonna be quite the battle for peg/shelf space this summer and I'm sure Indy will get his share...

Our local KMart put out a small selection of stuff today...looked like one case of figures (I bought the Salla one...no Marion...is she one per case or something?) some Tater-heads, lots of the "Galactic hero-style" figure sets and one Truck vehicle.

Our TRU refreshed their figures (still no Marion!) so I picked up a Belloq and leather-jacket Mutt. I'm pretty surprised about the lack of a KOTCS Marion yet too...although there's also no Roy Winstone-character figure, no generic Russian soldier or possibly other "Skull" characters that could round out another assortment later in the year...we'll see.

No 12", no deluxe figures, no 2-packs. And our WM STILL has NOTHING! Well, at least the Indy-nothing goes great with the SW-nothing there... ;)

We've still got a few weeks till the movie hits and the whole summer to get these...they'll show....somewhere....

jonthejedi
05-06-2008, 04:03 AM
There IS a generic Russian soldier, but he's only in one wave 2 case assortment. Other harder-to-find figures are cemetary warrior & Mutt with snake. Again, I think it depends on your area & the retailers...I had no problem finding Marion.

mark2d2
05-06-2008, 04:09 AM
jonthejedi -- Mutt with Snake? Hard to find? Marion easy? Wow, the exact opposite is true out here. Very interesting. I think you must be right, it must hinge on where you live and the retailers. . . I thought it might be a case breakdown thing, but now I think it's just more random.

K M Toydarian
05-06-2008, 05:14 AM
Agreed on the locale issue. Here in Los Angeles, I've not yet seen Marion, but Mutt with snake is becoming a peg warmer. That'll change when the movie hits, but for now he is lagging. And by that I mean only him, and maybe an Indy or 2. Low quantities in generally though really. That'll change too probably closer to May 22.

Opened my 12" Whip Crackin Indy tonight. I am bummed that his hat is not removable! The whip is a really soft, gelly type rubber (stretchy) so that it has lots of bounce when you whip it. Interesting. On par with late 90's era Star Wars 12", so for 20 bucks I guess not bad, but I probably won't get any more 12".

They are indeed very popular amongst collectors and possibly even scalpers here in LA. mark, I actually found quite a few of the figures at your (assuming you haven't moved to another neighborhood) local TRU last Saturday but the other 5 stores I visited that day either had no figures or only Mutt/Cairo Swordsmen.

I saw some more Indy figures finally at Target, up until now it's been the swordsman and Mutt w/out jacket. I saw the deluxe Marion w/ henchman (lame, why do this after the basic?), the dlx german soldier 2pack, dlx Indy with Ark, Mutt with jacket (worse face than the other one), whippin' Indy, and old Indy with rocket launcher. I bought the Indy w/ Ark and whippin' Indy.

Dlx Indy w/ Ark doesn't really work that great, the Ark is very nice, but missing the carrying poles and loops for them. Indy there though has big googly eyes and the head wrap part doesn't really translate well due to sculpting and paint which is just too painty (plus this should have been a separate head part, in the SW line it often would be). The figure itself under the robe is nice, has a lot of articulation the arms are a little small at the sockets but passable. I just don't get why it has a pistol and a rolled up whip and an oversized belt under the robe when it doesn't have the staff of Ra, get rid of the gun and the whip and the belt which aren't in the scene, give us the staff - and while we're at it, why does this figure come with the Ark when Indy doesn't wear this costume when he finds the Ark?

The basic Indy whip figure, which doesn't have anywhere near as much articulation, and suffers an action gimmick, and doesn't even have a removable hat. But this figure is AWESOME! It's one of my favorite figures in recent memory. The whip is a brown string with a fat handle, but in his hand it really whips well, totally sells it! I love the whipping action, the whip has the right length and flows nicely, it's so much fun. And you can wrap it up on his belt, it looks pretty cool. Other nifty features include decent arm articulation, the working holster with the same pistol as above, and the ball-jointed head is an unusual but good manner (it's a smaller joint and higher in the head). The figure's preposed but it works really well in whip-up and whip-down poses, and even the right hand can kinda grab the hat. The facial sculpt is kinda there, from the figure's left side it especially it has it. The paint is wonky with big eyes and the head color not matching the chest, but overally works. I just can't get past how much fun this figure is though, Indy really is cracking the whip!

The one thing I would have liked to have seen here is Indy's head staying stationary, so his torso moved but his head remained looking in the same direction.

I'm loving these new figures, my favourite so far being Indy with jacket. My only slight nitpick with is the "working" holsters. They're way oversized, and don't really "work".... they're a cool idea, but are virtually impossible to get done up again once opened, at least when empty, as there's nothing to push against. I had to push the whip handle under the clip before I finally got it sealed again, and it'll have to stay closed now, so not really much use. Might as well have the pre-moulded holster like on the Ark Indy, which looks a lot better.

I've been having so-so luck with the figures, though have only been able to afford three so far. I've also seen the German Truck and the Russian Jeep, none of the deluxe though. So far I've only picked up 2x Whipping Indy (don't really care about the gimmick, gonna use him with the Cairo Swordsman) and 1 Raiders jacketed Indy. For the most part I think the line is pretty decent, though the packaging leaves much to be desired. I like all the graphics and even the bubble design, but the many small edges are easily going to become worn and every single bottom looks like a 4-year old opened it up and tried to tape it back together.

Anybody know why the Crusade Indy figure shows as in stock on HTS but the rest are coming soon?

Also, any news on a motorcycle with sidecar for Indy and his father? The German motorcycle seems to have an unusually large hole on the side that looks like it may be a plug for a sidecar.

The Crusade Indy figure might show up as "in stock" but it doesn't ship until July.

I just find that HTS' Indy listings are a bit screwy right now. Irina, Dovchenko and Russian Soldier which I just ordered yesterday are still in stock but when I check the order status on my account, it says that they're "back ordered".

According to their listings, the Jungle Cutter ships around 5/28 which sounds like the info Beast posted about the 1st of June.

Word to the wise, my friends, AVOID HTS like THE PLAGUE. Their service is pretty awful and it takes FOREVER to get products. The only other website that has worse service is TRU.com.

If you need figures, post'em and I promise other SSGers can track them down. I have solid hunt luck hunting and i'm sure we can help each other out.

and thanks for the pic, Beastie.

But I order from HTS all the time, JMG. I ordered the Deluxe Indy + Horse from them when the 20% off + free shipping code was in effect and even though it'll take longer to receive, I don't mind at all especially since it'll be cheaper than getting it at retail.

Picked up the Hasbro "Talikg" Indiana Jone 12" figure today...

For the price point and the purpose, I think this is a pretty good figure. The "talking" feature works well (although the "working" mouth is a little creepy looking), the outfit looks good and has hearty construction, the accessories are well done and the packaging is handsome and collector-friendly (easy-lift lid, more rubber bands, just one wire)...in fact, the only "break" in packaging required is cutting the blister to get the idol.
Is the likeness good? I'd say good enough for the target audience for this figure (kids)...the head is a little too wide (probably to accommodate the mechanics underneath)but it looks like the character. The body is okay... a little limited in articulation, but again...good enough for a young fan to have fun with.

I've got Sideshow's version on order...but until then, this one is fine...but when Sideshow shows up, this decent figure is off to the nephew...hopefully to spark his interest in 1:6 fun and collecting...

I think for a mass-market, inexpensive figure, this is pretty well-done.

Good job, Hasbro!

Why the heck would you want to leave it in the package??? Surely not for some imagined long-term investment value. Unless you like the way it looks packaged?...

Are any of you collecting the basic figure line but aren't interested in the artifacts/relics? If so, I might like to buy/trade for the relics that I don't have as I don't plan to complete the entire line.

Has any one found the marion figure....

Our local KB got a kickbox display of figures today...with Marion. They only had two, but both had awful paint apps so I passed. Also...they were $8.99! A bit steep I'd say...

Another Marion-related question for folks....I've heard she comes with a "headpiece of the staff of Ra" relic...first, is that right...and second, does it work with the staff that comes with that deluxe Indy? (Haven't seen ANY of those 'round here yet....)

Yes, she does come with the headpiece, you can see it here (http://www.cooltoyreview.com/Hasbro_IJ_Marion.asp). As far as I know, the relics aren't quite in scale with the figures, and I didn't know any of the Indys come with a staff..... the Ark Indy certainly doesn't.

After digging the whip-gimmick Indy so much, I figured I should bust my Hasbro Rewards check on more of the line and set out on a trek. You could say I was "jonesing" for more IJ figures. ;) My run was immediately rewarding, there were a couple ROTLA Indy figs, Sallah, dlx Indy with idol trap, dlx Indy swinging, a metric ton of both Mutt figures, a horribly-painted single-carded German Soldier, both of the Crystal Skull Indy figs, a few Swordsman figs, and a Monkeyman. I picked up ROTLA Indy (I chose the one with the less googly eyes), Sallah, and dlx Indy with idol trap, passing on all the rest.

Basic Indy ROTLA is an ok figure, but it's not quite as good as I hoped. The working holster gets in the way of the jacket horribly, and the belt is attached to the figure's inner core so it's not going anywhere. The messenger bag under the jacket is cool but gets in the way of the rolled up whip when on his belt. The left hand is sculpted to hold the idol, but the idol doesn't stay in the hand. What I found most frustrating was the hat and face aren't the same as the whip Indy, they're weaker sculpts and it really matters to me - frustratingly, the face is sorta there from about 2 feet away but the hat only looks good way up close. And the eye paint on Indy is just too cartoony, it doesn't deliver for crap.

Dlx Indy is really lame, the base is cute but not all that film accurate - I did like how the gimmick works with the trap and lock, the idol has a HUGE peg underneath it tho'. It comes with the sand bag which is cool because none of the others do, but where's the torch? And the figure reeks of a mid-'90s POTF2 figure with weak sculpt, lower articulation, even the cheap c-cup hands.

Sallah annoyed me because the right wrist was stuck and IMMEDIATELY broke with the slightest provocation. I'd like to replace this ASAP.

Might as well have the pre-moulded holster like on the Ark Indy, which looks a lot better.I picked up the regular ROTLA Indy with the jacket, and I totally see what you mean about the working holster being too big for that. I don't have a problem getting them closed though, and I think the holster looks excellent on whippin' Indy, but it absolutely does muck up the ROTLA fig.

I've not found that particular Indy figure yet and was even going to pass on it but if JT thinks it's awesome then it might be worth looking into. :pHaving picked up the regular ROTLA Indy figure, I can confirm that the whippin' Indy is still quite awesome. It has a better facial sculpt and even the hat is better, and the working holster ONLY seems appropriate on whippin' Indy, it doesn't work as well on jacket Indy.

I have to disagree with this, I've had good to excellent service from HTS in the last year, I've made a lot of orders with them and the worst I could say is that they didn't always do the best job protecting the cards from bending (though a lot of times the cards came fine anyway).

Good job, Hasbro!

Even for a mass-market figure the likeness is still substandard. The $25 pricepoint is no excuse for garbage like this.

Spotted more of the Deluxe figures at TRU this afternoon but the paint jobs on all of them were absolutely horrible, especially the eyes. This is just torture for me. I love the line and the overall sculpts of the figs, but just can't bring myself to buy them or even open the ones I have due to paint issues.

Also saw the Wal-Mart exclusive IJ Monopoly game today. It comes in a real wooden crate with stenciling on the outside just like the warehouse scene from Raiders. The game is based on all four movies and runs about $29.

Steve just posted pics of the mail-away 12" Ark and AH Indy & Horse, including their fantastic packaging:

http://www.actionfigs.com/index.php?categoryid=34&p2_articleid=2153

How sad is it that the 12"-scale Ark is better than combined all 4 of the figures it takes to get it?

I know the AH mail away was previously seen but the packaging wasn't.

And the Indiana Jones w/ Horse Adventure Heroes still rocks.

Anyone planning to make any purchases or have in the last few days at K-Marts, heads up. In Sunday's K-Mart's ad... when you buy $20.00 or more worth of Indiana Jones Toys, you get $5.00 back. Glad I just bought my Indy Heroes from there. :)

My micro-collection continues to grow. My Indy toy count is now up to six. Three Basic figs. Three Deluxe. I am seriously digging all of my purchases, though some are definitely a bit better than others.

Mark's Mini-Reviews:

SALLAH -- I really am digging the sculpt, mine has great paint though I had to look through four or five others to find this one. The torch is perhaps the coolest accessory ever. Love the transparent plastic they used here. His shovel is icing on the cake. --- A

RENE' BELLOQ -- He sure looks spiffy. They did a great job on his clothing, the breastplate is especially well done. Very fun. My only gripe, my staff is bent and I need to fix that as it REALLY annoys me to no end. Oh, all the paint on the three I found at Target one day was top notch. --- A

MONKEY MAN -- Another great costume done right. Nice paint here. The sculpt is oretty solid. I do wish the sleeves were longer on his robes though. The knife is just plain cool. The monkey is cute as hell. Has anybody pointed out that the treacherous little fellow does have one point of articulation? His tail rotates 360 degrees and this makes him surprisingly pose-able on peoples shoulders. --- A+

INDY WITH ARK -- An odd set. No Staff of Ra. This outfit makes no sense what-so-ever as he never wore this when he was around the ark. . . But once you past all that, this is a great little set. The Ark is richly detailed. (Holes and poles would have been thoughtful though so for that it only gets a solid --- B.) Onto the figure, the soft goods work quite well here. Underneath, you have a surprisingly well articulated Indy. I do wish his headdress was a separate piece though. --- B

INDY WITH TEMPLE PITFALL -- Okay, I know this is not even close to being film accurate. I know that, and I don't care. Think about it. Seriously, how do you do a bottomless pit in a playset? Paint it black? (Actually, that could work and I might do just that if I ever find another set like this on clearance.) But I totally get why Hasbro went the way they did. The result is a fun little piece. . . I especially like all the mayan heads carved into the base. The snakes are a clever foreshadowing touch, actually. And they do make sense, in that. um, without them Indy would simply walk right around the spikes. . . the "action" -- a simple push of well concealed button -- sends Indy or whomever you chose to their doom. Yep, this playset is awesome. --- A The figure? Um, he's okay. Articulated knees are sorely missed. BUT THEN, you did get a frigging amazing playset for only two or three bucks over the price of a basic fig. . . So I am being a bit generous here with a C+. He's very average for a fig. We've all gotten so spoiled.

INDY WITH TEMPLE TRAP -- Believe it or not, but this playset is even better. It "looks" fairly movie accurate. The table the idol sits upon especially. The idol, too. But even that little portion of the floor. The trap -- remove the Idol and the floor jumps up and squashes you is not quite what happened in the movie. But how the heck is Hasbro supposed to create a toy that generates an earthquake and crumbles apart? Oh yeah, and keep it under ten bucks? No, for what this is, it's awesome. --- A+++ The Indy is pretty solid. The face sculpt is one of the best Indys, I think. And the elbows are nice. He's fine for what he is, I guess. I like the fact that he's not as absurdly dirty as his Pitfall counterpart. --- B-

CLOSING RANDOM FACT NOT EVERYBODY KNOWS: The amazing PITFALL and TEMPLE TRAP are designed to connect and thusly form one sizeable Raiders Playset. Long and skinny, it measures 16 inches in length and just over 3 inches wide. It makes a truly amazing display piece.

Mark, try dipping the staff in some not-quite-boiling water for a few seconds, pull it straight (careful not to burn your fingers!) then dip it in cold water. Works a treat on just about any bent accessory. I even did this with Indy's hat, that had been bent in the package - as soon as it hit the hot water, it "reformed" to its correct shape.

And thanks for the reviews.... I've been intending to pass on the deluxe playset Indys (if I ever see them!), but I've been reading so much good about them, reckon I'll have to pick them up.

Thanks, man. I did just as you said and the change was amazing! Instant! Woo-hoo! You know, I remembered vaguely people saying hot water could do wonders a long time ago, but was unsure as to how exactly one should do it. I had no idea it would be so easy or quick! Thanks again.

About the Deluxe sets. . . look, it's like this. If you like playsets and have ever looked back at photos of the vintage days with envy. . . or if you even just like little mini dioramas. . . then I'm certain you will like these sets. They aren't perfect, but they are a lot of bang for your buck! There are really good clear photos of them on Cool Toy Review.
