'Dwarf's (sic) mining', what do you reckon? Looks ok to me though it probably could have done with some actual mountain around the mine. loving the winged helmets and the troll.
Kinda hoping they'll continue with the mythical creatures for the castle theme. Elves and forest hideouts and unicorns and wild boars and a better grifyn than the harry potter one. rustic villages and stuff. kinda make up for missing out with Lord of the rings. tie in with the old castle sets but keep moving forward. less fairytale (king Leo's castle) and less of that knights kingdom nonsense. and more grrr argh! fight fight chop chop. relax in the tavern with a flagon of ale.

Much prefer the dragons in the new castle sets to those in the Vikings sets. but I liked 4767: Harry and the Hungarian Horntail too.

these two new dragons seem to fit quite well with the horntail.

Mooor eee ah..

I wonder if they'll have beards too. It's been awhile since LOTR came out so I suppose this is more than just a way of cashing in. We could see elves or goblins since LEGO already sculpted a elven head for Harry Potter (http://guide.lugnet.com/set/4731).

if you squint really hard at the low grade pic you can just see that the dwarves do have beards and their helmets and redesigned to be shorter and fit around the beards.

There's also two green skinned 'goblins' with the troll. can't quite make out how many dwarves are in the set but looks like four. 2 with winged helmets and 2 with plain helmets.

wouldn't it be cool to have taller elves? with new longer leg pieces. normal heads with fancy helmets. maybe backwards pointing small wings on the sides. Obviously Lego can't do LOTR designs but falling back on general mythology designs elves have long been drawn as winged helmet wearing 'people'. give them bows, arrows and modified Ninja katanas and they'd look ok.

The rock monster from Rock raiders would be cool to add to this, maybe use it as a petrified stone troll in grey plastic.

Dang, those new sets look pretty good! I like that they're branching out into new ideas with Castle again. Now all I need to be is a rich millionaire to afford a house to put all these great items in. :D

I've bought the Joust set and the catapult set already so i might as well expand and get more of the castle sets. the only thing stopping me is lack of room as well.

I guess they do have beards! That's pretty cool. I think that one battling the troll has a beard with two pig tails.

I've seen the Skeleton Tower and Castle Siege at TRU. Both look pretty good. This new castle features a breakaway wall segment. It's been awhile since I've collected castle sets so I'm not sure if they still use the old wall sections or not.

I bought the catapult set from this new theme as well. The skeleton torso has been modified so that SW battle droid arms snap into the shoulder pegs. This new design allows the skeleton figure to hold accessories in a static pose without the arm falling down. (The old version of the torso had a loose ball-and-socket shoulder joint that allowed the arm to flop around).

The skeleton horses have plenty of disguised studs located on the head, side, and back of the animal so other elements can be attached to it. You can stick a shield on the side of the horse or add those little round plates to the head for eyes.

the beard piece was originally going to come with the Vikings but lego nixed that in favour of the printed beards. if the Dwarves come with that beard it'll be really cool. And yes it's a braided beard.

I'm curious about the skeleton horses and skeletons. can't see the reason behind doing some in black and some in white. are the black ones supposed to be some sort of elite skeleton force or is just an abitrary choice to colour some differently? The official site says nothing other than the evil wizard conjures up the skeleton army. tis puzzling.

Also hope they do some 'urban' buildings from the good king's kingdom. stuff like a tavern and a generic cottage or something. with the timbered wall panel piece from the old sets and maybe a new piece to let you do a thatched roof..

Ha!, well for the sake of accuracy, it's set 7009 The Final Joust. I haven't built it yet so I've no insights, comments for it just yet.

wonder if they'll add to the dwarfs and goblins with more sets. be a crying shame not to. a few smaller sets with basic backdrop scenery of a few bricks thrown together to look vaguely underground ish then chuck in some goblins and a couple of dwarfs. do a separate goblin and troll set and maybe throw in the evil wizard. and a separate dwarf set with a mining crew and a rock wall with a seam of gold in it. maybe a really small set with the dwarf king and his throne. and a bearded female dwarf. :)

Dwarves Mine (http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=7036&cn=473&d=70) is now available from LEGO Shop@Home. This 575-piece set includes 4 dwarves, 2 "troll warriors," and a 3" tall Troll. The troll warriors look a lot like Orc Goblins. I think the troll itself has articulated arms though not legs.

I wonder if LEGO tried to get the LOTR license and this set is based on some prototype that they floated out there to P. Jackson & New Line.

Wow, that's a pretty cool-looking set in the photos! They should really show it from the side more, that's what changed my opinion. I wish they'd show the back. I wish they had been able to do this set for $30, that's the magic number I think. Even $40 I might have gone for it.

You know, I'm looking at a few other sets there, like King's Castle, and I am now totally sure that one of the big things turning me off from LEGO this last year has been their HORRIBLE photography and packaging. They don't show sets from the best angles and they make them look small. Compare the boxed to loose photo on the set I mentioned: http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=7094&cn=473

That seems to be a common complaint among other shoppers I've run into in the LEGO aisle. The sets just don't seem like they're worth the price tag. However, I think the product would sell itself if the toys were assembled and incorporated into a large mini-land type of display. Which is probably why LEGO has reverted to using those big display boxes with sound effects to show off several sets in the various themes in stores again. My local TRU has at least three different displays, one for SW, Castle, and Mars Mission. I'm usually more envious of the display box itself than what's inside, but the King's Castle does look a lot more impressive in person than the pictures I've seen.

I was wrong, my TRU has no less than five display boxes showing off assembled LEGO sets. Besides displays for SW, Castle, and Mars Mission, the there are two more boxes with Bionicle and Aqua Raiders too.

Just thought i'd pull all the forthcoming dwarf and troll warriors sets together in this thread. They may not be the best sets in terms of having building structures but I like the minifigs a lot more than those skeleton army ones and the do gooder knights.

No bleeping way! I hope this set is real. I love the city advent calendars, but a castle advent calendar would be the greatest. A jester and serving girl (ok, but maybe a wench)! I love it. Most of these are pretty good. I don't think I care for the "Battle Wheel" or troll ship, but those are pretty minor dislikes.

the jester made me do a bit of wee. I want that minifig so badly. the rest i can take or leave but the jester is so going to end up being a street entertainer in my town. maybe two or three as tumblers.

Battle Wheel! That's awesome, that thing looks like a classic '80s toy.

Jargo

I love how the one goblin in the battle wheel set is just takin it easy while the other bust a gut turning those wheels. there's some nice ideas coming out of these recent castle sets. similar sense of creativity and humour as some of the classic castle stuff.
All I need now is a revamp of the forestmen. and there's your elves. oh, no hobbits. hmmmm. need something - modified short leg assembly with extended foot profile. harry potter type hairpiece, cape. backpack. chrome sword for the frodo-esque character.
a white wizard. the classic foal as Bill the pony. ringwraiths and black skeleton horses. stone coloured trolls. big octopus like creature in a big pond. red and black winged monster. with big yellow and red sword. big eagle with wizard rider. samurai-esque warriors. ninja-esque warriors. winged snake like monster with nasty claw feet in very dark grey and black. a couple of tall wizards towers. pannier carying elephants with massive tusks. polar bear sized wolf/bear beastie. oh and some dreadlocked warriors with modified leg assembly with extended leg length. (would work for elves too) oooh now I'm getting the idea of it. :ninja:

I spotted the Troll Battle Wheel at TRU this afternoon, believe it or not. I'm not sure why they named it such, since there were only goblins and knights in it. The troll is in Dwarves Mine and appears in the ship set as well.

Troll now means these guys, I guess: http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=5618-1

It does say "February" on the pic, so I guess it's already out, not sure how I missed that before. I gotta track this sucker down. Price?

Just got off the phone with TRU... the Battle Wheel is going to set you back $39.99.

OH HELL NO! No way they're prying $40 from me for a set that looks fairly small really.

I saw this on Tuesday finally, it looks a little more reasonable for $40 in person, but still doesn't seem like a $40 design set. I passed, but if I see it for $20, I would definitely buy it.

How many troll sets are there? Are they part of the castle system?
Anyone have links to more sets?

I'm really digging the troll figures, so I'd like to pick me up a set or two, or more depending on what's out there.

Thanks. I'm meaning the green trolls, not the Harry Potter one. Not sure which of those sets you posted have the green ones, but I'll look them up later. Again thanks.
