I figured i'd go ahead and start up a thread for this since there have been a few blurbs about it.

1. James Morrison, who plays Bill Buchanan said on his site that he will not return for a seventh season as the show is moving in a new direction.

2. And this one is pretty crazy: production on the show has been delayed three weeks (into August) as the writers were having trouble as Fox was having issues with the script that required filming in Africa. The writers tried to find places in LA that could sub for Africa, but decided to scrap the entire season thus far. Yikes.

3. And there is a rumor that next season will feature a female president, but I don't know if this is still legit due to the fact that the script was scrapped. We'll see.

I really liked Bill Buchanan and he will be missed, but I can understand him in not returning. I'm interested to see what cast members come back for the 7th season, I'd say it won't be very many (if they are going to really change things up).

From USA Today's Pop Candy column, here is the info on "24" for next season:

24. To be honest, I went into the 24 panel with low expectations. Last season was such a major disappointment that I didn't think this would be such a hot event, but the line to get in got so insane that security had to cut it off.

The biggest revelation from executive producers was that there will be no CTU next season. Instead, the show will open with Jack appearing before the Senate in Washington, D.C., where he is "made to answer for what are perceived as his crimes." Chloe will be back, but Audrey won't, since Kim Raver is on another series this year (NBC's Lipstick Jungle).

Executive producer Manny Coto wouldn't reveal if Tony Almeida was still alive: "Tony's alive in our hearts, and that's all that matters. To say anything definitive either way would ruin the process."

It doesn't sound like the writers are considering a 24 prequel that would bring back Nina and the gang either, because, as director Jon Casser said, "Our show lives and dies on who lives and dies."

How in the hizzy can tony be alive?!?! we'll wait and see though!

More info on season 7 from CS.net

Jeffrey Nordling has joined the cast of Fox's "24" as a regular.

Additionally, John Billingsley has been added to the cast of the real-time thriller as a recurring next season, when the show will be based in Washington.

On "24," from Imagine TV and 20th Century Fox TV, Nordling will play an FBI agent named Larry. Details on Billingsley's character, Latham, have been kept under wraps.

Other notable new additions to "24" next season include previously cast Cherry Jones as the U.S. president and Colm Feore as her husband.

also, Jeanane Garaffalo has joined the cast as well, which works as I heard she was pretty solid as she did some drama work on "The West Wing."

Hmmmm.... I don't know. I'm not familiar with Nordling. Not real familiar with Billingsley either, although I did like his work in Out of Time. Cherry Jones, umm yeah.... And Jeanane Garaffalo?!?!? WTF?!?!? I'm not a fan of her at all; she's like Kathy Griffin...yuck...

There is no way I can be optimistic about this season, especially after last season. This could be the last season I watch, and/or start out watching rather.

Nice trailer, could be interesting; I did notice Bill Buchanan was in the trailer. I wonder why Tony has gone bad now & how the hell is he still alive when he was killed off in a previous season.

I thought I posted about this at SSG, but I guess I was wrong. We never got a definite that Tony was dead; he never got a silent clock and Jack was never given confirmation/info on his death. We just know whatever Henderson injected him with knocked his a-- out.

I'm guessing Tony has gone rogue due to his bias against a system that he probably believes failed him. That's my guess!

Bad new guys: No 24 this year.

Forget Jack Bauer. The writers' strike means there won't be a new season of "24" in January. The network didn't want to offer an interrupted adventure.

Instead, Fox has unveiled a new schedule for the rest of the season. And it is the most specific plan any network has offered so far. The plan suggests that Fox will be more stable than the competition in coming months. Fox, after all, will offer the Super Bowl on Feb. 3, followed by a new episode of "House" with Oscar-winner Mira Sorvino.

Biggest news: "American Idol" returns Jan. 15 and 16. The network will serve up four hours over those two nights.

Taking the "24" time slot will be "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles." This thriller will preview Sunday, Jan. 13. Then it moves to 9 p.m. Mondays, starting the next night.

The writers' strike will mean more reality programming.

"The Moment of Truth," a game show with a lie-detector test and big money, arrives Jan. 23.

"When Women Rule the World," a role-reversal show, debuts March 3.

A new season of "Hell's Kitchen" begins on April 1 -- how do you like that timing?

Fox also will offer new installments of "Cops," "America's Most Wanted," "Don't Foget the Lyrics!" (hosted by Orlando's Wayne Brady) and "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?"

New scripted series include:

"New Amsterdam," a drama about an immortal cop, debuting Feb. 22.

"Unhitched," a comedy from the Farrelly Brothers, starting March 2.

"The Return of Jezebel James," a comedy from "Gilmore Girls" creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, beginning March 7. The show stars Parker Posey, Lauren Ambrose and Oscar-winner Dianne Wiest.

"Canterbury's Law," a legal thriller with Julianna Marguilies, beginning April 11.

Fox added that it will offer a mix of new episodes and repeats of "House," "Back to You," "'Til Death" and "Bones."

"Prison Break" offer an episode Monday, then returns Jan. 14.

New episodes will continue to air of Fox's animated Sunday comedies.

Well, yes and no; no 24 this season as of right now. If the strike gets resolved, we could still see the season. It'd go into late May or June, but it could still happen. God willing.

The writers strike is going to hurt a lot of shows. If the strike drags out, it makes sense to delay '24.'

I could see the networks running 'best of' episodes of long running shows and a lot of repeats.

I didn't have the highest hopes, or wasn't very optimistic about the seventh season of 24, but I was still looking forward to see what they were going to do with it.

24 Gets Jumpstart with 2-Hour Prequel
Source: Fox May 15, 2008

Fans have been waiting almost a year for the return of "24." On Sunday, November 23 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), the wait will be over as Fox presents a special two-hour prequel event.

Shot on location in South Africa, Jack Bauer battles an international crisis, while here at home the nation prepares for a new president on inauguration day. Taking place just a few months before the new day dawns, the prequel will set the stage and raise the stakes for Season 7.

"We're excited about the prequel because it explores Jack's complex emotional state of mind and still has all the signature excitement and suspense that fans have come to expect from '24,'" commented executive producer Howard Gordon. "Shooting in South Africa affirms everyone's commitment to making this season especially memorable for our fans."

Celebrating its 150th episode this season, the series has resumed production on "Day 7" and will unfold without interruption in its regular time period Mondays (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) beginning in January 2009.

Set in Washington, DC, "Day 7" finds CTU dismantled and Jack Bauer on trial. Bauer's day takes an unexpected turn when former colleague Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard) returns. Meanwhile, President Allison Taylor (Cherry Jones) leads the country alongside White House Chief of Staff Ethan Kanin (Bob Gunton) and First Gentleman Henry Taylor (Colm Feore).

A national security crisis prompts an investigation by a team of FBI agents including Agent Janis Gold (Janeane Garofalo), Agent Renee Walker (Annie Wersching), Agent Larry Moss (Jeffrey Nordling), Agent Sean Hillinger (Rhys Coiro) and security specialist Michael Latham (John Billingsley). Although CTU is no longer, Chloe O'Brian (Mary Lynn Rajskub) and Bill Buchanan (James Morrison) are back for another momentous day of shocking events.

Hello everyone. I'm new to 24. A friend a few months ago loadned me seasons 1-6 on DVD. Lets just say I've been watching it ever since and now I'm hooked. I'm right about to start Season 4. Anyways, I plan on being caught up by the time season 7 starts! So far I'm a big David Palmer fan -but after season 1, I know that wont last.

"Guns dont kill people, Jack Bauer does!"

Ok, I'm at halfway through season 5. David Palmer and Michelle Dessler are dead. President Logan has just been revealed as the traitor! Cant wait to see how this plays out.

Sean Astin had a great cameo in this season. Was a real jerk too -but very well played. Had a great death scene too.

That was probably one of the hardest moments in 24 to watch; Astin and that guard sacrificing their lives and Edgar going was BRUTAL as well.

Oh I know. WHen Edgar came running out after everyone was sealed in the safe room -AARH! I was like Run Edgar! Run!!!! *sigh*

Tony Almeda is now dead also, but I'm looking at a Season 7 cast photo and he's in it so I'll be curious to see how they bring him back.

Eh, I'll check it out.

Yeah, 24 has started in January over the last few years, so this is nothing new. It allows the show to run from January to May without any breaks or reruns.

Oh yes. Hopefully its a good omen for season 7 after the rather damp squib season 6.

Aside from being a rather boring season its a pity they couldn't get donald sutherland to play jack's dad. Not that cromwell was bad at all.

I don't get why season 6 got so much crap. It was a solid season, just not up to par with season 5.

I LOVED this prequel; very fast paced, exciting, lots of human elements, and Bauer beatin' a--. Loved the addition of Bigby- i mean, Robert Carlyle and it was great yet sad how he went out. I loved the preview for season 7 and what Bauer yelled to a certain somebody, "I'll kill you and this time you will STAY DEAD!"

Let's hope season 7 is as fantastic as the premiere.

Maybe thats what it was - season 5 was excellent and 6 therefore had a hard act to follow.

For me it shot its load too early and then the remainder of the season was quite forgettable..quite literally in fact - I really can't remember much of what happened after the nuke went off. All of jacks family were evil conspirators? I remember thinking how uneventful the finale was compared to other seasons.

I really liked the first two episodes tonight!! I do like the predicament that has come up with everything pretty much up the creek at this point; and it's great to see Tony Almeida back, especially as a bad guy.

I did like seeing Jack Bauer kicking arse again; that barrel roll thing off the box was INSANE. Great start!

Kick arse! Well, with The Shield down and out it's good to see a real show like this still going!

I can't wait 'til tomorrow, 2 more hours!

As for Tony, I don't buy him as a "bad guy". I suspect he's deep cover, and whoever was helping him from inside the FBI is on the case with him. It doesn't feel right, to many questions, why the fake death? There is much more going on here, there always is!

Great action tonight!

01-11-2009, 11:25 PM
Jeanine Garafalo?!?!?! I never thought I'd see her in an action flick like this. And, was it just me, or did the guy that plays Mr Taylor's (pres. husband) secret service agent strongly resemble Darth Vader himself, Hayden Christensen? I know its not him ('cause I had to check), but I swear it looked like him.

The stories OK. A little hard to believe that this impoverished African country is responsible for the beginning of the story.

I did appreciate seeing the commercials concerning aid to Africa. One of the few redeeming points that I can think of of the outgoing president is the aid given to Africa for AIDS and other healthcare.

GREAT call on Tony not being a bad guy. I never thought he'd be working with Chloe and Bill though; that was a HUUUUUUUUUGE surprise. Seems like he was bad for a bit though and I could hardly blame him after how light Logan got off.

I think in these sorts of cases, the country is poor, but the bosses are usually rich, usually thanks to the diamond trade and whatnot.

Another solid few episodes tonight though; I really liked Jack breaking Tony out and playing the undercover angle, something we heard about before season 3, but never saw. Should be intersting to see how this unfolds.

I have to say one of the police guards in the FBI looked A LOT like Edgar, so much that I did a double take. And for any LOST fans, another LOST actor was in tonights episode. Ten points if you can point him out! heheheheh

Yeah, I could see him running around stealing stuff, and doing some bad things to get back at the government. I just didn't see him killing innocents. It's really not in his character, besides I've gotten used to watching 24, nothing is ever what it really seems at first...or second...or third glance. LOL

It's actually becoming a bit of a problem. It makes it more difficult to be surprised. They still manage to pull it off, but not like they used to.

I really enjoyed tonight's episodes. I knew Bill was going to be back, I'm glad to see Chloe as well.

I'm still up in the air about the FBI traitor, I need to see more before I will be able to figure it out. I suspect they will hold it back 'til mid season or later. I have my suspicions about the cabinet, but nothing solid yet.

Ok, yet another goverment mole in an agency that has had to have extensive background checks and routine audits of its personnel. Oh, and "good guy" agents going rogue to save the legitimate people in rest of the anti-terror/intel community. This aspect is getting old quickly. It's one reason I liked the movie, it avoided most of that.

Just an observation, but is Bill Buchanan turning into Captain Ahab chasing conspiracies within the highest level of government?

I gotta say this season has been really fantastic!!! It's been very simple to follow, no unneeded drama and GREAT action.

I didn't think Sean would be the mole; I thought maybe it was Larry, but I soon definitely thought it would be either Janis or Erika. Sean must be a cold hearted dude cos he did have his wife on a plane when all this went down when he knew that there could be an attack.

Oh and I was SO DAMN happy to see Aaron pop up again! GREAT cameo!! Also happy to see Morris and Chloe as they weren't bickering. I did hope they would have named the kid Edgar though.

Overall, I'm really excited for the rest of the season!

Events on 24 have always stretched credibility / believability up to or past breaking before, but trying to believe that Americans - in govt service - some in the military - would actually attack the White House and President... ... For money?!?!?!? I can believe that there are some bad apples that would turn over sensitive info for cash, especially if they don't understand how it could be used to harm the nation, if not people. C'mon!

That said, looking forward to the episodes! Wouldn't mind seeing 2 hours every week.

I'm curious to see how this will be done too as even I find it kinda "uh what??" but this season has been really stellar so I think they can pull it off. If things are as corrupt as they say they are, I guess it wouldn't be too hard to pull off, especially if there are secret service agents on the payroll.

Really get ep last night! It made it just the tiniest fraction more believable that Juma attacked the White House since he brought his own soldiers with him. And we can still say we don't negotiate with terrorists.

We just capitulate to their demands. Way to go Madame Pres!

Who was the character that was shown speaking with Juma on phone? I at first thought it was going to be the VP, but was later proved wrong.

Yeah, I thought it was done very well to the point that I believed it could be done. Very exciting and tense episode last night. I am pretty irked that the Pres gave in. You're the PRESIDENT, dammit!! You gotta stay strong!!

Are you referring to Jon Voight's character? His name is Jonas Hodges. I guess he was in the Redemption movie back in the fall, but I don't remember what his role was, or what his position is.

If memory serves, Jonas was the boss of a guy who was a friend with the son of the president. This guy brought the transactions of the conspiracy to the president's son (he was later killed) and it was the president's son snooping around that got him killed.

What do you folks predict for next week? I'm sad to say that i'm predicting the death of either bill or aaron. :(

Ando

I was predicting either Aaron or Bill as well.

I'll be sad either way, though. I was sad when Mason and Chappelle died, too.

dr_evazan22
03-05-2009, 02:00 PM
Yeah, John Voight's character... I tried to pull up Redemption info, but Fox only seemed to have info on the seasons.

Thinking back to Mon's dbl ep... I felt bad for Jack when, while locked up, he was trying to convince Bill that Bill had to interrogate the Senators aide, and Bill said that he wouldn't, that he couldn't.

I think it was Bill's responsibility to at least try. Try an actual, lawful interrogation. Just try. I'm not saying that I agree with the methods Jack uses in real world terms, but Bill had to at least try and get some info, even if just thru questioning. If and when it came time to make good on threats of violence Bill had done a gut check and decided he couldn't, then I could respect him for that. But the way Bill treated Jack left a sour taste in my mouth, like Bill was saying he was better than Jack.

Did anyone else have similar feelings here?

I realize that this is a theme this season, and I'm interested to see where it goes. So far we have this example with Bill, we've had Renee express her feelings a couple times, and we have the Senator's viewpoint as well.

24 website says season 8 is likely.

Ando
03-05-2009, 02:25 PM
I think if Jack Bauer is torturing you then 2 things have happened:

1. You DID do something wrong.

2. You probably did something bad enough to deserve it.

If people just listened to Jack and went along and followed his lead, the show would be called "8". "12" if he took a few breaks.

Mad Slanted Powers
03-05-2009, 06:50 PM
At that point, hadn't he already asked for his lawyer? There was no way they were getting anything out of the guy by a lawful interrogation, and Bill would have had to get around security an whatnot to do it.

Yeah I predicting that Bill or Aaron is gonna take one for the team. Although I love both characters dearly. The notion makes me sad.

Sucks that Bill is dead (and we got a silent clock, he's dead), but he did go out in great style, allowing Jack to beat some Juma arse.

I wonder what happened to Martha Logan....

I did like Ethan in this episode, realizing that they have to rely on Jack to use torture tactics; and how d***ish is Larry?!!!? Dude, when will you realize that you have to use tactics to defeat the enemy?!!??

Great episode!

Ando
03-10-2009, 10:58 AM
I figured it'd be Bill. I liked Bill, but Aaron has been on every season, so they'll probably want to keep that going as long as the show keeps going.

Larry IS a d***, and no one ever calls him Agent Moss on a consistent basis, they all call him Larry more often than not. It actually undermines him and I think it's intentional.

Great episode.

See, whenever I hear someone call him Larry, I think of Cheryl or Susie on CYE yelling at Larry David.

Yeah Larry is a jerk for firing Rene. But he'll need her at somepoint. Then that leaves the future open for their 'releationship' which has been hinted at the beginning.

Still really bummed that Bill is dead -although I expected it. The President's daughter is a real nasty one isnt she?

Anyone notice the President has forgotten about her husband in the hospital? Also anyone think the president and Ethan are having an affair?

It was mentioned before the attack that he was still in surgery; they'll go back to it. I hope so; we don't want another "what happened to ____________??" situation going on (Logan, Wayne Palmer, that terrorist kid from season 4, etc).

And I have to really disagree about the President and Ethan. No way that's going on. The President seems like a very solid individual, not the type to have an affair.

Another really solid episode this past week! I was really shocked by the Senator gettin' killed and I loved the fight between him and Jack. Jack took him out, not only with a knife to the chest, but a 2X4 to the face. Awesome!

I also loved Morris cracking that encryption in about 11 seconds; that was hilarious.

And i'm not trusting the president's daughter though, not by a looooooooong shot.

Lookin' forward to tomorrow's episode!

And so we're to the next big bad in this season--a thinly-veiled Blackwater-type organization that built a biological weapon and smuggled it into the US.

The thing I love about 24: it's like an onion. Every few episodes you get to another layer. Another layer of EVIL.

With Sutherland signed on for an 8th season, I doubt Bauer's exposure to the chemicals will kill him (at least until the last hour of the 8th season).

Incidentally, there is a Blackwater facility in northwestern Illinois. It's basically a shooting range. I doubt Bauer and crew will need to storm it any time soon.

I'm also curious how they'll factor in Bauer's sickness; they said it could kill him within a day or two. I'm thinking perhaps the 8th season could be a fabrication and he could very well die at the end of the season. Just an idea.

How many eps we got left? 5? 6? I'm curious how this could extend or work into another few episodes?

The season started at 8 am and last night's episode ended at midnight, so we have about 8 hours/7 weeks left (assuming a 2 hour finale).

Well finally the big twist came. Tony blows up the weapon, only to later steal a canister for himself. The killing of Larry Moss inbetween was just brilliantly played.

SERIOUSLY. THAT WAS INSANE!!!!! TOTALLY DID NOT SEE THAT ONE COMING.

Larry being killed was really intense; that scene was done perfectly. Sadly I was just starting to like Moss as he was finally starting to break some of the rules. Really great episode!

Good to see Kim again. I almost didn't recognize her without her leg being caught in a bear trap. :p

I'm really excited to see where this season ends up; only 6 episodes left!!:thumbsup:

There's been several times when Jack & Tony's face to face dialogs have revealed little tells that signalled to me that somethings just not right with Almeida. I had hoped I was wrong. Maybe he's a double(or triple) agent. My wife feels that he just never got over Michelle's death. It's looking more & more like Jack's going to be the one that's going to have to take him down in the finale.

I thought it was a great episode and it was a little heartbreaking to see Tony actually be a bad guy and kill Larry. He was just starting to grow on me, too.

Yeah I was sad to see Larry die. He was just starting not to be such a jerk anymore. That'll kill Rene to find out.

It was great to see Kim Bauer again. She's gotta help Jack somehow. He's gotta live for another season and movie afterall.

Who knows, maybe Tony is still on the good side and has plans to take down the other threat Hodges spoke of. Larry was just unfortunate collateral damage.

Is Kim really Jack's biological child? Could she be anymore stupid? Airports, especially one like Regan or Dulles have the charger/wifi zones, some even at the terminal. Plug in your phone and call daddy, idiot!

Her character has always been a bit of a moron. Although when she shot the dad at the end of Day 2 with Jack "walking her through it" (shoot him again, Kim), she redeemed herself somewhat.

Why would she call her dad exactly? Jack already stated that he doesn't want her around to try to help or see him die, so she's flying back home. I don't get why she would call him when he doesn't want her around.

I'm pretty excited about the finale. I'm curious to see if Kim can use some of her old CTU training and execute her captors herself........or if more than likely she'll have to be saved.

Regardless, this season has been pretty awesome.

There's a creepy guy following me after terrorist attacks, send a buddy fast request? Ok, if not her dad, than Agent Walker.

She was suspicious, and she had that couple check him out. He wasn't looking at her and walked away, so she felt relieved and probably figured she was just being paranoid. Unfortunately, it was the couple she had to worry about.

More Kim Bauer shenanigans! Kidnapped (presumably) again. If anything this should prove to her that she was right to stay away from her dad all along - EVERY time she goes near him she gets caught up in a terrorist plot.

Anyway, more nastiness from Tony - it can only have been him who directed the bad guys to Kim. Does he have it in for Jack or what.

I thought the finale was pretty fantastic. Great to see Kim finally get herself out of a jam and take control of a situation; that CTU training FINALLY came in handy I see.

Great to see another side of Jack and i'm interested to see what he ends up doing for season 8 in NYC. I was also glad to see Tony survive and how crazy was Renee going after wilson?!

And speaking of Wilson, I loved how they tied him back to season 5 and the conspiracy that we saw Logan working with in a few episodes. This whole thing was a revenge plot and I dug that quite a bit.

my favorite moment of the episode: Kim Bauer's "damn it!" when her cell phone wasn't working. Like father, like daughter!

Awesome season!

I also forgot to mention that the plot with Pres Taylor was pretty interesting; I wasn't really sure what she would do, but I was happy to see her stick to her guns. I've liked Taylor as Pres and I hope she sticks around.

and how intense was that scene when Tony was yelling at Jack? When he yelled "what would Terry think of that?!!?" I thought that was a low blow, but it made for some great drama.

And Michelle being preggers when she died!?? didn't see that one coming!

I'm not really going to say anything that people haven't posted yet, but here's my take:

- I mentioned to my wife that Tony was really after Wilson before he revealed it on screen. He was too eager to meet him.

- Kim stabbing the female terrorist in the leg was AWESOME. Reminded me of Red Eye (and that I should watch it again). But when she took off after the guy with no weapon, phone (really?!? does no one charge their phone regularly?!?), and in heels, I was a little worried.

I thoroughly enjoyed last night even though it didn't answer a LOT of questions. I would like them to explore the conspiracy a little bit more during days 8 & 9 and show us a few more surprise villains.

It was nice to have it back this year after a 2 year break.
