Hello,

I wanted to show you guys a little something I've been involved in but I am not sure about where or how to upload it. It's an eight and a half minute piece of dance in four movements called Fall of the Republic which I choreographed and was performed in London's Hammersmith Apollo Theatre some weeks ago.

I work in a predominantly Afro-Caribbean college teaching the urban element of their dance courses and the students are disaffected/marginalised etc and some youth offenders. Anyway, for their assignment in Jan of this year I set them a brief of "Exploring combat in dance using Star Wars as a stimulus". They had really worked hard last Sept on a dance I choreographed to the 5th Element's Diva Plavalaguna piece so I wanted to really challenge them with a long piece. Most of them had not even seen any of the films before and they really got into it. I wanted to take some license and not represent the fillms too much but I knew wanted to end on a climactic lightsabre fight. So the movements are 1) Zen Community 2) Dark Force Rising 3) Droid Army 4) Duel of the Fates.

They smashed it and we have been asked to perform this in many places in London including the Royal Ballet School. Anyway, I was hoping to upload it somewhere for people to have a look at but as an 8.5 min DVD rip it is quite large and besides, and I have it as a .VOB file which can be watched on a freeware media player like VideoLan. I'd really like you guys to see this as it is another take on the SW universe.

Any suggestions (i don't want to put this on Youtube really for obvious reasons)

Many thanks

Hey jeddah, long time no see. Sounds like an interesting project! Naturally I was gonna say "youtube" until you killed that. :p Honestly, without paid hosting I can't think of a place to put it, everything I come up with is youtube or myspace video or google video. How big is the .vob file? That might open some doors in my noggin.

Hi JT,

Thanks for the reply. I have 2 files, one as MPEG and one as VOB the MPEG is 317Mb the VOB is 319Mb.

I'll have a look see and see if I can make any headway needling some friends into hosting this for a short period ;)

Wowzers! That's no chump change, a few people look at that and you've got yourself a gig of transfer. I just did a quick search, here's a free file host that's not too offensive or hard to use, doesn't even need you to sign up, but I've not used them either:

Okay so I may be putting the cart before the horse with that subject post title but....

Thanks JT, I had joined a rather good upload filehost site for free like Badonga as it had ftp and video streaming but I can't access my account for the ftp upload till next week as they're doing essential site work....(reminds me of the ISEy GalooBB). I found lots of other sites but never Badonga. The other 2 I signed up for never got past the 0% upload  so I was glad to see your post.

Anyway, it's up at Badonga now, and you can get it here (http://www.badongo.com/vid/449300). Now I'm not sure how this is going to work...if you have to download it or not - it took about 5 hours to upload but then even though it's only 8.5 mins - it is a fullscreen MPG. In any case come Monday I'll see what the score is with the FTP and streaming site and let you know.

Hope you enjoy me lil opus. And mad props to the students.

Drat, I didn't realize they required you to reassemble the file in pieces, that's no good. I'll try to find something else. Sorry about that big J.
