View Full Version : Astromech list

08-15-2007, 08:33 PM

I've just been looking at the Blackhole stormtrooper helmet and I saw a link to 30th anniversary figures. I saw an R2 B1 in there and never realised there was a new one out. Can someone point me in the right direction (if there is one) which shows all the astromechs Hasbro have? I think the most recent one I have is the Empire's R2 Q5 one. I stopped collecting some years ago due to financial constraints, but think I can stretch to one or 2 a month or so.

I really want that R1 too :D

Oh Jeddah, R2-Q5 from someone who's actually worked in building a life-sized Astromech??? That figure is 6 years old, POTJ! There's been so many! Do you want just basics or exclusives as well?

My gods, JT, thanks, you're my star at the moment :D

There're some really nice droids in there, and the prices in the US are so cheap! I think I'll wait till I'm over in NY in Dec for my spree... Although I am sure some are exclusives and so on so I'll have to get loosies from E-bay. That R2-R9 is nice but I must say I'm not to impressed with the new R5-D4 (although it is admittedly far superior to that awful previous mold)

The sad thing is I would like to be able to get the KT pink one but I'm sorry, it is just dreadful. (I'm just expressing my opinion on the paint not the sentiment) Also as a Mace fan, I would like to get his Astromech but aren't we taking this purple thing a bit too far? The Jedi Starfighter and now this? lol I'll have to see how I get on with that...

So, I will be after the Star Tours and definitely those EE exclusives and I nearly booked a flight when I saw the Ralph McQuarrie set. I-have-got-to-get-that

Thanks again for all your help recently JT

Sure thing Jeddah, hopefully all your R2 dreams come true. :D

I actually forgot one that's right here on my desk, the AOTC-sneak-preview R3-T7: http://www.rebelscum.com/POTJsneakr3t7.asp

08-18-2007, 09:53 AM
:) me too...

I got that R3-T7 too, I ripped it open and took the lightning off it (never much got into that:- force lightning; electricity frazzle; blaze effect Hasbro had been pioneering with sabres, blasters etc, I think the transparent coloured lightsabres they introduced were spot on but when they introduced this explosive 'movement realism' element (a-hem) I think it all went a bit Pete Tong...b'anyway) and have never been able to work out how to put it back on lol

Interestingly enough, Don Bies told a story about what that was and why R3-T7 was cut from AOTC but said to us that if you look as Obi-wan and Anakin run either to the club or from it, you can see R3-T7 very briefly trundling past. He's also on the DVD extras.

08-18-2007, 06:32 PM
I have actually noticed him wandering past in the film, I thought "gee, that's a great reason to make a droid" :p

08-19-2007, 01:08 PM
Nice list. Very cool that you did that. Man, that sure is A LOT of droids. Should R1-G4 be on that list? I mean, he is an R-series droid. Not to mention on of the more interesting obscure figures to come down the pike. Really, there is nothing out there quite like him. . .

08-19-2007, 04:58 PM
R1-G4 would have been on that list, but Jeddah mentioned wanting R1 in the opening post, so there was no reason for me to include it.

They should have made R1-G4 super-articulated. ;)

08-20-2007, 04:18 AM
Oh, yeah, somehow I missread that as that he wanted "B1." Its funny though, I do remember that A LOT of people DID think that R1-G4 was NOT articulated enough. . .

Just for interests sake..

these are the non-R2-D2 astromech units that I think still need to be made (from OT) - in order of appearance - (they are all fairly obvious - more so than R3-T7 anyways...

1) The yellow R5 unit that crosses in front of the screen, when Luke and Ben get stopped in Mos Eisley
2) R2 unit with the black dome - seen on Mos Eisley - when 3P0 and R2-D2 are hiding by locking the door.
3) Blue R3 unit seen wandering the Death Star when Luke, Han and Ben are "visiting"
4) Green R2 unit seen in the Rebel breifing scene
5) All white R5 unit seen in the Rebel breifing scene
6) All white R2 unit seen in the during the attack on Death Star
7) Red and Black R5 unit (Red Leader's)

8) R5 unit with the black top seen in the Hoth Base
9) Red and white R2 unit also seen in the Hoth base

10) Red R3 unit seen in the Rebel breifing scene
11) White R5 unit - same scene
12) Red R2 unit - seen in the socket behind the pilot that buy's it inside the Death Star

To be honest - the only one I REALLY want is the 1st one - but the others would be nice to have....

Finally got some spare cash to treat myself on a few things so I got me the 2 Entertainment Earth packs, R5-D4, R4 I9 and the new R2 B1.

Really like them all although the paint job on the ent earth's are a little sloppy. I love the R2-B1 which finally has no shiney chrome dome, and the R5-D4 is much better in the flesh, really like the bad motivator.

My priorities now are R2-P17, R3-A2, R5-J2 and R4-G9. I want to get the 3 star tours ones - are they available online to buy? I've been unable to find them. Dunno if it's just me, but I always visualised the bronze R2 in Obi-Wans JSF to be bronze all the way down, rather than a lazy white with bronze details.

Well, any new astromechs, let me know. i still haven't picked up R1 so will include that in my next big-o-buy.

I haven't bought an R2-D2 figure since 1995, and I'm thinking of upgrading. I might go for the VOTC because of the tools, but I am considering the SAGA Corruscant Sentry as well. Almost all of the recent R2's have scene specific paint ops, which really annoys me. Any other candidates I should look at?

02-11-2008, 04:11 PM
I agree the VOTC is the only R2-D2 on the list that JT posted that I added to my wishlist just because the bod is so accurate (and you can take this to the bank from an Astromechotic like moi) ;)

02-11-2008, 05:45 PM
First off, nice to see ya back big J!

The VOTC has a really underwhelming deco, it's literally just blank white plastic for the body, no weathering at all, and it hurts badly. I would suggest getting the TSC Hoth R2-D2 (http://www.rebelscum.com/TSC010r2d2.asp), it's the same sculpt except they glued the tools door in place which sucks, but is a good tradeoff for the very nice subtle weathering. It's also still findable in small quantities at TRU & WMs with pegwarmers. If you have paint skills or want those tools real bad though, VOTC is the only way to go.

The Saga Coruscant Sentry is the '96 Power FX figure with new legs and sounds, it's not a rewarding purchase overall.

It still stuns me that Hasbro has gone to great lengths to finally get R2's sculpt right, yet they leave out the coin spacers at his "hips".

Moi encore, (enfin...)

In my search for a UK vendor of the AC Alta´r vinyl 12" figure I came across a new astromech in an upcoming escape from Hoth pack. It has what looks like Luke and some next Lobotalike, along with what looks like a red R5. I can't find any details about it's name and I wanted to see if it is available separately. Do any of you know?

p.s for any AC fans, I was in Carcassonne in France over Easter. Very reminiscent of Acre in the game, i would say that Akko and Carcassonne were melded into Acre. Afterall the Hospitaliers were all around there...
