who's got some. what you got? how you like 'em?

I love them. they're maybe not as articulated as some people would like them to be and the likenesseson earlier sculpts weren't great but there's plenty of detail and they're a nice size and look great displayed. I've begun by mostly going for specific scenes or groupings.

so far i've managed to get:

Flight control electronic TARDIS
9th doctor horribly pre-posed
10th doctor in long coat with blue suit and red converse sneakers.
10th doctor in grey suit with white converse sneakers
Rose in pink top again nastily pre-posed
Rose in mauve top
K9 clean version
K9 rusty non RC version
Cassandra 1st version
The face of Boe
Moxx of Balhoon 2nd version
Slitheen version #1
x2 Slitheen version #2
space pig
multi-pack exclusive grey Krillitane w/ closed mouth
Cyber controller w/ throne
Cyber leader w/ chest medallion reveal
x2 cybermen version #1
x2 Cyberman version #2 w/ arm gun
SDCC exclusive damaged cyberman
Dalek Sek
damaged dalek Thay
dalek w/ mutant reveal
assault dalek
RC dalek black and gold
RC dalek bronze and gold

I don't have any, but I did peruse a bunch of them at Comic-Con in July and they looked pretty decent. If they had a US release without import pricing I would be likely to buy them. And they're making some pretty out-there stuff, if this was a US toy company there'd be no Face of Boe to say the least.

I would buy them as well. I looked into getting some shipped from the UK but shipping is way too high. A US Release is a must.

apparently from march next year they'll be doing classic doctor who figures (pre 1996) as well. starting off with:
Tom Bakers 4th doctor,
Peter Davidson's 5th doctor
Colin Bakers 6th doctor.
Broton the Zygon with Skarassen control devive,
VOC robots 2-pack (SV-7 [super voc] and D-84 [dum class],
Magnus Greel and Mr. Sin 2-pack,
Sea Devil with string vest thing.

I'll get the 4th and 5th doctors and the Zygon, possibly the Sea devil depending on how it turns out. And if the line is expanding and doing well then it may get an american distribution deal? Maybe we'll get old school Tardis control room playset too. This is like getting toys you always wanted as a kid in a parcel that got forgotten about kinda thing. you know like a christmas present that was hidden and discovered many years later.... maybe it's just me.

and i swear if i do nothing else this weekend i'll get some pics taken of the stuff i have.

Tom Baker action figure? That's awesome! I wonder if the interest will be there for these at the same level, or if they'll be more of a niche market thing.

Tom Baker action figure? That's awesome!I agree!

BTW... I saw a few figures at Suncoast a few weeks back, so it does look like they're making good on what they told me at Comic-Con. They had a few Clockwork Men and a Wearwolf, but everything else from that wave had been sold.

I haven't checked my local comic shop lately to see what's up.

So far, we've only picked up an Ood and the two SDCC exclusives. I'm imagining that I'll probably get the kid a few more figures for his birthday next month, so we'll just have to see. ;)

Jargo
09-16-2007, 01:05 PM
The Ood is hard to come by cheap here. the doctor in spacesuit with the mineshaft capsule and Toby Zed with ancient runes all over his skin have been released so I may have to splash out on those next month.

The Tom Baker figure comes with two heads, one with and one without his wide brim hat. it'll be his red velvet coat costume with the scarf too. hope it comes with a bag of jellybabies as an accessory.

http://www.dnstoys.com/Nice! I've bought from them in the past, they did me right. I wish these things were under $10, especially taking shipping into account, but that's a good find none the less.

Can't remember exactly, but I'll go back soon enough to see if any Cybermen have turned up. It was probably around the $9.99 to $14.99 range that they have for everything... until it goes on clearance.

this site is probably the best site for a realistic run down on what's been available and is upcoming. insofar as it's a list. with pictures.

Mmmmm. well sometimes the amateurs don't have the best available to them. It IS a good list site though. Very comprehensive. makes dredging through ebay auctions a lot easier. :)

I finally got a good look at the SDCC excl. chocolate dalek thanks to this site. Now I know I have to have that. Daleks rock.

A quick note, I found the Doctor regeneration 2pack, a Dalek figure, a pig cop figure, and the Sonic Screwdriver at TRU earlier this week. The screwdriver was $13, the regular figs were $10, and the 2pack was $20. Hopefully this means we'll be getting the Tardis exterior playset in the US finally.

JediTricks
12-31-2007, 04:15 PM
Well, I picked up damaged Dalek Thay and The (10th) Doctor in blue pinstripe suit with glasses & sonic screwdriver at TRU the other day, $10 each. I had almost bought the same Doctor figure without the screwdriver but remembered to look at the last minute and find one that had it.

Dalek Thay kinda annoys me because it seems obvious that the panel for the "mutant reveal" should come off the way that mutant reveal one does, but alas it does not, so this is one VERY hollow figure. Still looks good though, but I only bought him because they're not offering any other Daleks right now.

TRU also had a pile of the Cyberman voice changer helmets, I didn't get a price scan on them. Honestly, I think this is not an item they should have bothered with at this point as the show is still building the audience here and it's an oddball item to most kids.

they were cheaper than the last link i posted. I ordered the 5 pack for 27.99, a Dalek and the Sonic Screwdriver set. I am trying to hunt down a Capt Jack figure. JT if you see one in TRU or anything, please grab it for me.

Nice get KH, you got a few really creepy baddies.

Kidhuman
02-03-2008, 07:23 AM
Tanks, they actually all came in a set, 6 figures(5 baddies plus the doctor) for 28 bucks. I found the best route is to get the gift packs, especially when he has them price cut.The place has Cassandra and 3 spider droids this month for 6 bucks, might get that one and some others like the clockwork robot. I really want to get the weeping angel from Blink. That was one of my favorite episodes.

Jargo
02-03-2008, 09:00 AM
ha I'm going for the screaming angel variant.

yes it's the torchwood long coat but as he was seen in DW season three. there's also a season three Jack variant which I'm assuming is the tortured prisoner jack from onboard the valiant in last of the time lords.

UK toyfair is a washout. there's an embargo on reporting anything about DW toys. visitors to the stand have been made to sign a no disclosure form. no photos or naming of anything allowed. all that's been said is that most of the rumoured stuff is true and there's more besides. apparently though the latest Tomart mag has some info so if anyone can scan that I'd be eternally grateful.

DAMAGED BOX: 5" Dalek Thay

DAMAGED BOX: 5" Moxx of Balhoon

they were 5 bucks each at this site:

Just look under clearance sales.

I also ordered:

1 x Doctor Who 5" Clockwork Droid Blue (DW5CWDBLU) = $7.99
1 x Doctor Who 5" Cassandra & Robot Spiders (DW5CASS) = $6.49

from here:

MDP, whats the variant on the weeping angel you spoke of?

Jargo
02-16-2008, 08:09 PM
oh you got your regular weeping angel with passive face and hands up to the face hiding it. then the variant is evil faced with a scarey scream face and hands with open fingers so it can reach out. hang on I'll root out a pic...

Kidhuman
02-16-2008, 08:10 PM
I want them both. Is one HTF than the other?

Jargo
02-16-2008, 08:40 PM
the screaming one seems to be the harder to find. it may get another release in a box set. I know the screaming angel is either just out or hasn't been out long. it got pushed back on release. for some reason the master and professor yarna came out with shiny plastic faces and hands as opposed to being painted in skintone. those are being re-released and i think the screaming angel wil be in a wave with those.

I thought the Dalek was Dalek Sec. The lighting makes him look lighter than black. I might be wrong there. I dont recall a chocolate Dalek

Jargo
02-25-2008, 08:51 PM
I just fiddled with the colours and took out a lot of yellow and it's definitely not a black dalek. same sort of brown as the assault dalek con exclusive. and it definitely looks like a slot on the dome. ordinarily there's a panel line across the middle of the dome but this is behind that, sat in the semi-circle panel on the back half.

I'll have to dig through UK release reports and see if I can find some info.

EDIT: it's a money box. just did a fast google and first link up gave me the same product. http://www.honeypotgifts.co.uk/pictures/products/wesco/WLDR10.JPG

Jargo
02-25-2008, 09:36 PM
bronze/shiney brown where's the difference? lol

I should already know about the damn money box. i've seen it listed loads of places while buying figures just never paid attention to non figure stuff. I'm the same with star wars. never bother paying attention to non 3 3/4" figure stuff.

I know those mini collectable figures don't interest me. at that scale there's too much compromise in the sculpt and they end up looking really ugly with sloppy paint. the Slitheen spaceship looks cool though. I might allow myself that.

sebillba

http://www.doctorwhotoys.net/themasterfigure.jpg (horrible plastic on head and hands is being fixed)

I actually like the new style of heads/hands, even if they are a bit shiny - I've always preferred my action figures to have these parts cast in flesh coloured plastic, than to have faces with painted skin tones - this always seems more prone to chips/scuffs or sloppy paint. I bought two versions of the Master this week (Yana outfit and suit) and the Editor, and was hoping this new style would continue throughout the range. I even bought yet another 10th Doctor (Pentallion spacesuit) as it was the first time I'd seen him with skin coloured plastic.

I must admit, my interest in these figures comes and goes, but at the moment I'm really into them. I've got about 40 of them now - it's nice that I don't feel the need to be a completist with them, but can pick and choose the ones I really like.

Jargo
02-28-2008, 05:28 PM
i've slowed down seeing as they multipack so many figures as exclusives then single pack them later. hold my fire a little while and then pick out what i really like and want. I buy stuff loose as well. ebay is my fwend.

I was liking the idea of The Voyage of the Damned pack, but not to keen on the two server droid angel thingies. I want the little Maul looking midget guy.

Jargo
02-28-2008, 07:01 PM
I'd rather have the newspaper seller than those angel things. they need to do Max Capricorn as a deluxe figure in his metal box machine maybe RC. Bannakaffalatta (banana cafe latte?) the mini maul guy and Midshipman Frame.

Kidhuman
02-28-2008, 07:16 PM
The Max Capricorn would be nice. I hope they release the Kylie figure on her own later on. Any word on a Donna figure in her wedding dress?

Jargo
02-28-2008, 07:40 PM
the kylie figure will be single carded too. they're even doing a 12 inch kylie doll. wahay! (actually i don't really think kylie is attractive. she's got a face like a goat and she needs to eat something desperately).

The only Donna figure i know about so far is the season four version. though i've read mutterings that there may be a wedding dress sculpt done. I know Character probably planned on releasing it but then with donna being in season four they may have held off.

i'm sure if sales improve and more people get into Who there's a good chance of a Donna and Lance won those wacky wheel scooter things. I could see that selling. make it a mega pack with a re-release of the Empress of the Racnos and the doctor on a scooter too. or they could do a robot santa and release the set just before christmas.

oh and there may be a second Donna in the 'murder mystery' multi-pack. think that's slated for summer release.

It's difficult to get any solid info at the mo' coz character options are being secretive until the season airs. not their fault, the BBC are the ones who pulled the veil across it all.

JediTricks
02-29-2008, 12:52 AM
Kylie is attractive because of the clothes she wears, and the less clothes, the less attractive she becomes. She was fairly attractive in Voyage of the Darned but a 12" figure for a single-shot character is ludicrous.

Jargo
02-29-2008, 05:36 AM
it's just to appease the rabid fanboys of kylie. I imagine there'll be a market among the pink pound/dollar demographic if no-one else wants it. personally i think they should stick with the five inch scale figure and do a deluxe monster instead of the big fig. something like the Lazarus monster or the Jagrafess. maybe even the slave controller female of satellite five all hooked up via tubes to the mainframe. I live in hope of a mega deluxe Emperor Dalek or sanctuary base Demon. Any of those would be better than a Kylie doll.

sebillba
02-29-2008, 07:10 AM
I read somewhere they were cancelling the 12" line.... doesn't really bother me, as I don't buy these, but I was hoping they' make a 12" Brannigan - I would've bought Novice Hame as well then, so they would've got two sales out of me.

I also want a Mini-Maul!! :D There are some cool little aliens coming with the Sarah Jane figures, but I'll have to try and get those loose from ebay, as I don't want loads of SJs.

Kidhuman

Not Figures, but worth checking out:

http://www.mfxreplicas.com/

They said they will have a replica Sonic Screwdriver this summer. Thats some pretty nice stuff there.

Jargo
03-12-2008, 04:20 PM
Bought the editor last week. really odd looking figure. weird proportions. very long legs and a tiny head. the face is a bit off too. looked alright in the blister but loose it's very disappointing.
Also bought the sycorax leader. not a bad figure despite his arms being enormously long so his hands dangle at his knees rather than at mid thigh. the one i bough has a busted left elbow joint. and the paint job on his head is pretty lame. Good job i only bought him to stand with two Sycorax warriors.

Those replicas are stupidly priced. even for hand finished product it's scandalous money. They're technically mass producing them and the finish won't be the same quality as the originals no matter what they say. I mean the world is slowly collapsing around our ears and the cost of living spirals out of control and these guys think asking so much for a lump of fibreglass merely spray painted is ok. If they'd found a way to make the things from less expensive materials and still get them looking good i might think it was ok. There's just no way i would ever part with that kind kind of money for something like that. for 560 I'd want a full size complete cyberman suit never mind the helmet.

Kidhuman

Awesome, I need a Rose figure. By the way I have joined a Dr Who forum. Get some good insight on the toys like the Tweaks wave with the destroyed Cassandra. I wish they would make it BOGOF as well in the US for that wave.

Y'know the wait for the new season to start is killing me. And they've gone and changed the time it airs. grrrrr. But mostly i'm going mental because there'sben no new figures announced yet and I know they've been waiting til the season starts. There's not even been a snif of any of the classic characters either.

nice to finally see these.

mousedroid.com have put up a cardback image of the classic figures wave 1. http://www.doctorwhotoys.net/classicswave1.htm

I'm not liking the VOC robots but the The sea devil and zygon look alright.

6th Doctor costume i never liked. Luckily in Who EU they gave him a plain blue version so i guess i'll repaint mine like that. 2 second colourisation to show what i mean below.

the face on the hat wearing head is actually about as representative of Tom baker as you could get. The man is a legend. I was watching him as Rasputin in a movie version of Nicholas and Alexandra the other day and that mad grin and bulging eyes and just the vastness of the man is there as well. it's kind of like his signature portrait. though i can understand why you might not like it. I don't like the neutral head myself. looks a bit too petulent and somehow doesn't seem to carry as good a likeness.

Peter davison is a bland looking guy anyway so it would be quite hard to capture his face. he only has too expressions, worried and stupid grin.

Colin baker always had an imperious and sanctimonious look on his face. the figure looks to have mostly got it right.

apparently there's only plans at the moment to do doctors 4-8. no idea why the first three would be skipped. unless it's just the fact that no-one besides Who geeks know who they are. And there's no plans at the moment to do companions in the classic range.

Today i scored the big Tardis console room playset at half price WOOHOO! damn thing is too big to fit anywhere. wide base in multiple parts and big arches. then the lovely noise making console. which never shuts up. I've left the cardboard wall sections off mine coz they look dumb. I mean, the plaset doesn't do anything amazing. it has some lift up hatches you could hide a figure under. it has the console and the doors open the wrong way. and that's it. oh and you can swivel the computer moniter round the console stem to suit the position of the doctor at the helm.
it has no gimmicks or stupid inaccurate to source action features or firing missiles or tub of green slime for no apparent reason, (other than to give kids a something to rub into their parents brand new carpets...), it's just the console room and the console and it's huge. even then it's scaled down some.
it's got a good speaker on it to blast out the sounds too. of which there are twelve. I'm still playing with the buttons to see if i can get good combinations.

most impressive it is though.

While I don't collect the current Dr. Who figures, I'll have to track down that Tom Baker one.

And you're so right about the legend thing. What an amazing personality. I was watching one of the earlier writers talk about him on one of the DVD extras -- it may have been from "Robot" -- and he said Tom is the kind of guy to whom you could say, "It's a nice day," and he would reply, "Is it? IS IT???... yes, yes it is, isn't it?"

nice to finally see these. Mousedroid.com have put up a cardback image of the classic figures wave 1.I quit watching Doctor Who at about the time the sixth doctor came around, so I'm not as excited about him (I'll still try to buy it though), but Tom Baker and Peter Davison look great. That Tom Baker figure really looks amazing. I hope they can pull the final version off as nicely.

It'd be a shame if they didn't do ALL of the doctors, and a classic The Master figure... Roger Delgado and/or Anthony Ainley.

haha. they showed a documentary recently with Tom Baker being interviewed at a childrens playground. he seemed wistful and spoke about how fame went to his head and his drinking and bad behaviour generally cost him the role to Peter Davison. How he hated working with K9.

and I just realised the action figure with the grinning head fits the description Tom Baker quoted, a line in the show, "All teeth and curls".

apparently there's a box set coming:
"Season 12 Gift Set
Classic series figure set featuring characters from the 1974-75 period".

I guess that'd be repacks (4th doc, Zygon, Magnus greel and Mr. Sin.) and one new character. Hopefully Davros. would be nice to get a multi-pack of all new characters but character options record to date says otherwise.

you need a shelf or tabletop at least two feet square to put it on. and it's about 14 inches tall. I've been watching and waiting since last year for a good deal. saw one on ebay for just over a quarter of the retail price but it was a used one and the written blurb said 'played with condition' so i didn't bother. I can imagine it's one of those items a lot of people will end up selling on because it does take up so much room. and I really only got lucky. if my other half hadn't dragged me out clothes shopping I would never have thought about or stepped into TRU. *shrug*

Got three of the Sarah Jane Adventures figures today - General Kudlak, Graske and Slitheen child (loose from ebay, I didn't really want the three SJs that would've come with them). Also made by Character Options, and in the same scale as the other figures, they'll fit in well with my DW collection. I especially like the Graske - he's one mean-looking little dude!

August release on the classic figures. May for Torchwood figures apparently but I find it a bit odd that there's been no pics yet.

incidentally character options make five inch figures for another show, Primeval. which is a pretty poor rival channel answer to doctor who/torchwood. however looking at the figures there is one set that has some nifty accessories Deluxe anomoly incursion (http://www.character-online.com/products/primeval-action-figures-toys/primeval-deluxe-anomoly-incursion-playsetcharacter/) the arc lights are what interested me and the figure isn't that bad. though his outfit is actually black not reddish as the picture shows.

still, on a brighter note i just score the Slitheen child, General kudlak and the Graske without having to buy any sarah jane figures. yay for ebay. saw the Sarah Jane and K9 set i do want but it was double the normal retail so i left it alone. besides i'm after a 9th doc with auton arm and anti plastic bomb. and 10th doc with ghost triangulation gear. couple of sycorax warriors and a couple more Ood.

4th and 5th doctors come with sonic screwdriver, 6th doc comes with sonic lance.

Wave 2 classic figures also includes a build a figure which hasn't been named yet. the figures it'll come with are:

7th doctor w/out hat
8th doctor
Morbius monster
Robot mummy (as in egyptian, not mommy dearest) w/ urn accessory
Voc robot in green with numbers sticker sheet for name plate on chest.
First appearance cyberman in opaque plastic finish

personally I think wave 2 is pretty weak. besides the two doctors i'm not really interested in the other characters. I can think of a whole bunch of classic monsters and villains that would have been more impressive. seems really odd to put such a weak wave out so early on.

JediTricks
04-19-2008, 04:03 PM
The 8th Doctor, really? He's in 1 episode, it's a weak US-produced TV-movie. I guess for completists it'll be good though, but man, what a "meh" entry among a wave of "meh".

Jargo
04-19-2008, 08:11 PM
he's pretty big in the audio book dramatisations and graphic novels though which apparently count as canon. his likeness also appears in the journal of john smith in the episode Human nature from season three. which is tenuous but it's enough of a link to cement him in the mythos. the offscreen doctor regeneration.

who knows maybe the current who team will do some sort of inclusion of the 8th doc at some point. they brought the 5th one back for a tv special thing recently. it segues from the end of season three after the doc says goodbye to donna and the crash of the titanic into the doctor in voyage of the damned. anything is possible really. they can retcon all they like because of the relative dimensions in time and space and infinite possibilities and probabilities..

anyway. i'll buy one verson of each doctor only. there's bound to be variants. it's enough that there's ten of the guy. without having all his costume changes too. it would be cool if they did a couple of doctor accessory sets. some of the gizmos and gadgets he's used over the years.

new picture of the S3 Valiant set (http://www.doctorwhotoys.net/valiantset.htm) featuring the doctor with sonic screwdriver, combat gear martha and Aged Doctor. Strangely the wizened mini doctor is missing. perhaps that'll come as a carded figure instead?

Jargo
04-21-2008, 06:10 PM
A Lucy Saxon figure in that red dress would have been nice too. drop out the normal doctor shove in lucy Saxon, The Master, aged doctor and the birdcaged Doctor dwarf. oh and the aged doctor's kennel and dog bowl. that's what I'd have done.
Seems to me that Character options have a good team of sculptors working for them but the CO team themselves lack imagination and marketing prowess.

Kidhuman
04-21-2008, 06:29 PM
I agree with that Jargo. I can still see a Lucy Saxon coming out as a single carded figure. I do like the Marta save the world outfit. I also wouldnt mind the guy who she met up with(cant recall his name) Have they made any of the ball creatures?

Jargo
04-21-2008, 06:51 PM
when they single card the master and martha the master is coming with two toclafane apparently and martha will come with one that's opened up. now for me the master should come with three. one completely closed up, one with the little grabby arms deployed and one with the killer spikes deployed.
Hope martha gets her backpack with the fake poison bomb inside

The guy Martha meets is Dr. Milligan but I've not seen any rumours of him being released. Be nice if they did a Landrover vehicle and put Milligan in with it.

sorry forgot about spoilerific posting for a second there. let's hold off on the season four list for a while then. there's probably gonna be a ton of wants from the last story block anyway.

the names you're missing KH are Henry Van Statten for the alien artefacts collector, Adeola for the 'non martha' Torchwood 1 employee, and Chantho not Canto.

Ricky and Jake were lovers y'know? They cut down a scene where it was revealed but that explains why Jake was so upset at ricky's death. FYI only.

oh and i read at doctorwhotoys.net that Bannakaffalatta the mini maul dude from VOTD is coming soon in a 2-pack with a heavenly host robot. yay.

And season four figures probably won't start showing up til June. which is good in a way as it gives people more time to hunt out older stuff and catch up.

I'm still working on my wishlist trying to whittle it down. otherwise I'll just end up listing every character from every episode.

Miss Foster should come with the adipose computer wall panel thingy. that was cool.
The doctor would have to have a new head sporting that huge quiff he's grown. plus come with the tracking device he uses to find the Adipose HQ.

hmmmm. The series three Scarecrow figure gets a fourth variant. we got the original two with the oxblood colour outfit. then came the beige outfit version and now comes a grey/blue version. I have to ask why. Why four variants on a minor villain with no other figures from that episode. we've had no Doctor as John Smith or Martha in servant outfit. We've had no Jeremy baines, Jenny, Lucy cartwright or Mr. clark as the family of blood members. the release of the scarecrow makes no sense. the four releases make even less sense. kinda like releasing the Hoix with no other figures for it to sit in context with.

This is one of my major beefs with toy companies, releasing stuff out of context. The scarecrow as a figure is really dull. it has no weapons and just looks dumb. if we had the family of blood to command the things it would make perfect sense. I really don't understand why CO haven't put out at least Jeremy Baines. you look at their other army builders and you get the commanders and leaders to make sense of the grunts. Sycorax leader came first, Judoon captain arrived at the same time as the Judoon soldier. Cyber leader came at the same time as the regular cyberman and not long after came cyber controller. Possessed Toby Zed arrived at the same time as the Ood.

it's just stupid. where the hell are the family of blood figures? I bought the original two scarecrow figures but I'm close to dumping them if there's no Baines or John Smith to go with them.

Kidhuman

I don't have the space to set up DW dioramas, so am not bothered about getting every human character made into figures - I tend to just buy the major characters and cool looking aliens and monsters. But I've always been a big fan of Gerard "Charisma" Horan, so would love to get a Mr Clark action figure.

Well, I will pass on the SLitheen as it is a rehash, the skin suit isnt worth it. Jack looks good as does the ghostbuster Doctor. The Master is worth it as I didnt et him nor Martha and the Toclafane are sweet anyways.

Martha, The Master, Jack in his coat. Might get the doctor and Chip as i like the urn plinths and haven't got Chip yet.

they might at least have given the Slitheen a different head with a closed mouth look. and the skin suit looks cheap and cruddy. the scarecrow I don't want and I have the ninth doc and tenth doc pictured. The coatless Jack seems a bit pointless to me. and I'm not impressed by the likeness on Jack.

On the Who forum I go to, they had a contest to create a picture using a household item, gum and Dr Who figures. The prize was a Custom Mickey figure. I made it passed the first round and was one of the final 5. I came in 4th overall and thought I would share the picture with you guys. Let me know what you guys think of it.

First pic of the upcoming torchwood figures. only the Weevil and Lisa the Cyberwoman shown but apparently Jack and Gwen and these two come in one set due out august. UK price 35 so expect similar in dollars. pre-ordering is being accepted.
Click here (http://shop.scificollectorshop.co.uk/epages/es105345.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/es105345_shop/Products/torchwood-action-figures-jack-gwen-weevil-cyberwoman)

they don't look very pretty as prototypes go. the dirt effect on the weevil looks like carp and the head seems too light in colour. hope they're articulated and not statues. mind you I'll probably still buy them just for the Weevil and Lisa. do a little repainting and fix things. don't really care for gwen as a character and Jack is being done by Character options so i have him sorted already. unless the torchwood jack turns out better than the character one.

Kidhuman

The cyberwoman seems to have knee and elbow articulation, the weevil seems to ave none. I like the sculpt, paint looks a bit dodgy, other than that I like them.

sebillba

Who's making these then? Not Character Options? They look ok, but I'd only really want the Weevil, and only then if he was articulated.

Red eyed Ood
Ood with brain in hand.
Cant rememer dudes name, but the guy who ran the complex/with alternate Ood headI think the version that I have has red eyes, but I'd love a fully "rabid" version.

Ood with brain would be great, and yeah, the CEO guy... an Ood in pin stripe suit, would be brilliant. I think an all around Ood box set might be nice. Maybe it can come with a big pulsing brain.

Found out that the shop down the street from me is carrying these BTW. Not many, but maybe after I bother them a bit, they'll get more.

Speaking of Doctors, how about a 9th doctor without his jacket? All character would have to do is take the neutral pose version and sculpt new arms. can't remember which episode he didn't wear his jacket in but i wouldn't mind a variant on the ninth doc instead of yet another tenth doc.

just to say that if you click on the link I posted a few comments back they've added the gwen figure to the torchwood set picture.

Kidhuman

Gwen looks to have shotty articulation also.

Jargo
05-14-2008, 07:40 AM
according to reports there will be proper articulation but they're designed so you can display them like statues as well as have them fit in with dr. who figures. each one comes with a display base. representing the stone slab elevator from Torchwood HQ.
I actually think they've caught Gwen's likeness quite well. Not sure about the skinny legs, I woulsd have gone for a pair of jeans like she mostly wears. the skinny legs make the figure seem a bit too top heavy.
I hope these do well though as there's a few characters i'd like. Mary the translucent floaty alien, The weird mansized fairies, Bilis Manger, Diana the pilot from the 1950's, The real Captain Jack. Eugene, Torchwood's biggest fan. The blowfish alien and the Torchwood pet Pterodactyl.

I guess the success of these figures is dependent on distribution and awareness of their existence. so far there's not been much in the way of publicity.

Jargo
05-16-2008, 04:13 AM
Well I caved. I ordered the beige scarecrow variant. Partly because I doubt it's existence and think it'll be some other scarecrow variant in reality but want to see what arrives. I'll get the dark blue/gray variant when that arrives at retail.
I'm thinking of repainting one of the first two scarecrows anyway. not really liking the deep red brown tunic so might do one gray instead. or a crappy khaki muddy colour.

Also ordered the weeping angel and screaming variant. i was going to get four screaming ones but space and finances dictate only having two so it made sense to have one of each.

Kidhuman
05-23-2008, 01:32 PM
I ordered the Ghost Triangulation Doctor and Mickey Smith today. I want Rose and K-9 but they were sold out. I had to take some kittens to the vet which cost me 65 dollars or I would have ordered some Screaming Angels also

Jargo
05-24-2008, 06:06 AM
Bah humbug got a parcel today and all it contained was a weeping angel. with a note saying the scarecrow and screaming angel were out of stock. well they were in stock when i placed my order and thusly they should have been reserved. Forbidden planet have done this before and frankly they suck. So I expect at some point the other angel will arrive along with another note saying that the scarecrow is out of stock and blah blah blah. I mean i really don't expect to get the beige scarecrow because i don't think it was ever produced and they've replaced it with the grey scarecrow but if FP say they have something in stock then they damn well should have it.
we have a long public holiday weekend but come tuesday i'll be on the phone to FP giving them hell.

I completely caved in last night and bought the SDCC chocolate assault Dalek. Managed to find one at half the normal asking price so it still wasn't cheap but cheap enough.
I'm building a Dalek army. In the hope they eventually get round to making the Emperor Dalek.
I'd quite like to see a hovering bronze Dalek with black dome. which were the Emperors guards. no wheels on the base just the anti gravity thruster thingies. and a clear stand. maybe with a bit of a pivot so the Dalek can aim downwards.

The Emperor Dalek could be cheated slightly in scale, he wasn't collosal anyway. just looks bigger in the framing of the shots. he's about three Daleks tall. do him at a 12 inch scale and he'd be big enough. light up clear chamber (with the Emperor mutant inside) and eye stalk, light up 'ears' and a few phrases of dialogue. There's tons of Dalek fans out there that would snap it up.

Kidhuman
05-26-2008, 06:40 PM
I would go for an Emperor Dalek. I think I might start building a smal Cyberman army. I have a few Daleks already, I shall get a few more. Need to get a black one.

Jargo
05-27-2008, 05:49 AM
Dalek Sek seems to be fairly easy to get hold of on ebay for cheap prices. all those genesis ark and army of ghosts sets that got broken up. at the moment my dalek army looks a bit like this:
Dalek Sek
x2 black Daleks with gold decoration
Chocolate assault Dalek
x2 bronze assault Dalek
Daleks Thay, Jast and Caan
x2 bronze Dalek with black dome
x2 Bronze Dalek battle damaged
Dalek Sek hybrid
x2 pig guard
lazlo

I'm trying to work in units of three and thinking of adding some white with gold decoration Imperial Daleks. I know the classic line will have them but i much prefer the modern shape of the Daleks with the big ears and bulkier body. especially the chunky fenders to the base. Classic Daleks look a bit weedy to me.
Then of course I could do Daleks with silver and red and mixed up colour combinations. I've been looking at fan created Dalek art and found a fantastic black and gold Dalek where the gold is chromed and the dome is gold. and a version of the same Dalek where the gold is replaced by a strong yellow. Bumble bee style. looks cool.

My Cyberman army is pathetic in comparison. Controller, leader, x3 with gun arm, x2 without gun arm and one battle damaged. Mickey gave up his gun to one of the non gun arm Cybers. I think there's a Cyber coming out with the big gun as his accessory but that might just be rumour.

they're pretty adamant they won't make female characters. yet everyone is clamouring for them. I guess like most toy companies they want to make the most money from re-re-re-re-releasing the same old figures. yet they resculpted Novice Hame they've done two Martha figures and we got an Astrid peth. it doesn't add up. maybe they're saying no and just judging interest on fan sites. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

This set looks awesome!!! I'd be in two minds about getting Donna if she was single carded (I like the character, certainly more than Martha, but she doesn't excite me as an action figure), but this saves me the dilemma, I'd grab this set the second I see it! I love the Sontarans!

Just picked up The master with Toclofane and Martha in combat gear with opened toclofane.

The Master looks so much better now they corrected his paint apps so his skin is painted on like all the other figures. The Toclofane come on little stands so they hover about chest height to figures. nothing special about them but they're cool to have.

Martha looks really good though her expression looks a bit sultry and glamour model. the open toclofane is ok. bearing in mind it's a kids toy it passes muster. shame Martha didn't also come with the backpack and the gun with glass cartridges. just need to find Cpt. Jack in his long coat now.

the 9th doctor has a green t-shirt instead of black (original dynamic pose figure) or burgundy (recent release with auton accessories). the 10th doctor is the blue suit version and has a burgundy shirt instead of the usual pale blue. that's the only differences.
I think it's more about carded collectors lusting after variants than anything else. and the fact there's a shiney sticker on the card with a numer between 1 and 3,000.

perhaps they underestimated the following the show has and the army of new fans it's garnered. perhaps they'll see the light and stock the full range. that would please character options. they could trot out a whole slew of boxed sets for the US market. each one containing another doctor figure that you already bought seven hundred times before. they seriously need to stop putting the doc into sets. well, the same doc anyway.

That's a good looking bunch of figures. I'm really surprised by how nice the figure of Donna turned out also.

I was going to look for a loose coral frame to add to the front. complete the circle. print off some more wall panels to clad it with. just leave two segments at the front open. too bad the doors open out instead of inwards. they should do a mail in to get a corrected doorway section. and do captain jack's Chula ship from season one. love that ship.

the tardis playset should be released as a paradox machine version with the cage round the console and the red light and all the cables and wires. they could re-release the regenerated master with it and correct his skintone. I might consider buying another one if it was a decent variation.

Here's an official pic of the first of three Classic Dalek 3-packs. This one has Daleks from 'Genesis of the Daleks', 'Planet of the Daleks' and 'The dead planet'.

I like the Genesis of the Daleks Dalek. (dark grey) the other two look a bit cheap somehow. the set is due out next month apparently. should start to see packaged pics soon.

The dark grey is the nicest, but I like the one with the blue bobbles (sorry, don't know the technical term!) - it reminds me of the talking one I had as a kid.

Jargo
07-15-2008, 07:46 PM
The black one is a supreme Dalek from The planet of the Daleks.

The cheap blue bobbled one is from The dead planet. even the full sized prop wasn't much to look at. God knows why they chose it to make a toy of when there are far better Dalek variants to choose.

I hope these classic Daleks get single carded as well. I want three of those Genesis Daleks.

Piccies! Classic Dalek set #1 final product, Journey's end set and Pyrovile set. Just so you know the bronze Dalek with the weird attachment is called a Vault Dalek.

sebillba
07-23-2008, 02:11 PM
I'll have to get me a Davros, but don't want to end up with loads of multi-coloured Daleks.... they're becoming the clone trooper of the DW line.
The Pyrovile set looks pretty good.

Jargo
07-23-2008, 03:35 PM
needs Lucius Petrus Dextrus with a detachable stone arm. And his marble circuit board segments. I'll be grabbing a couple of Pyrovile sets though.

The Davros set is cool. could have done without the doctor though. I'd have preferred a second Vault Dalek in there.

I've decided to not collect classic Who figures. If the new who uses old foes and they're redesigned I'll get those. I still want the SDCC Time clash 2-pack of doctors though. I've got a carded pic of that actually. must post it.

Jargo

Time clash 2-pack. both Docs come with sonics. they're visible between the figures.

Really??!! I'm really looking forward to these, especially Tom Baker. And the BAD figure looks much more interesting than the SW BADs.

I know but it's a case of limited fundage and space really. I'm still way behind on the new who figures and here we have a load more coming out. I've pretty much knocked the star wars collecting on the head and curtailed any random purchases of other stuff. plus the prices are going up.
I'm having to think carefully and plan how i spend my cash like buying the sontaran boxset and one more single carded sontaran where i'd love to have about six sontaran troopers because they're one of my favourite villains.
things may get worse next year as well. for me i mean. might have to go back to relying on birthday and xmas presents to get my toy fix :(

I seriously need to cut back as well, but it's an addiction. I'm not excited about much of the SW Legacy stuff, and I'm not collecting the animated Clone Wars line or EU, but I'll still have to get anything from the films.

But just as I've cut back on SW, so I've become obsessed with Indiana Jones, getting everything from the modern line and the vintage figures as well. So I'm not saving any money there.

What I like about the DW figures is I can pick and choose, and only get what I really like, so there's no pressure, and it's more fun. Much of my enjoyment of collecting comes from the nostalgia value, which is why I'm really stoked for the classic line.

I too have cut back on SW and gotten heavily into Wo. They are more expensive. I got the SDCC figure of Eccleston, so thats cool. I do like the JE set and the Pyroville set also.

I just didn't have the cash to get that done. I saw them, and they didn't "wow" me at all, last year's were far more interesting IMO. If I had been carrying another hundred bucks, I would have bought both pieces, but I blew through a LOT of cash and it just didn't happen.

I held them, right before I put them back down. :p I just didn't see what the big deal was with the 9th Dr exclusive figure, it had new articulation but the head is the same meh sculpt, and $20 for a new so-so body with clamshell packaging didn't blow my mind.

Glad you got your fig KH. :)

Tesco of all places i believe. they had the sea devil and VOC robots too but my limit was three figures. can't be too greedy when it's a prezzie.
was one of the big out of town Tesco's.

just found this for ya:

Statement from Character

Argos, Boots, Tesco, Forbidden Planet, Fenwicks, Character Online, Galaxy 4, Midco, Bolts Shetland, Muck, Toymaster, Mail Order Express, Toys R Us, Moving Image Toys, LC Toys, Scotts Toybox, Hamleys, BBC Shop, Amazon, Smyths, Who One Ltd, Asda, Woolworths and Sainsbury’s.

I really like these, but I dont collect anything that isnt 3 3/4, they are just easier to display at this height.

I hope they eventually see the light and start doing them in this height next, I would love a Branigan Figure done in 3 3/4 style and Sea Devils (one of my all time favs). After all Star Trek comes to 3 3/4 size next year, so I am looking forward to these as well.

Jargo
08-28-2008, 08:29 PM
must admit five inches is a weird size. smaller would only mean me building a bigger dalek army though.

apparently the micro figures didn't do very well and are being discontinued and there's not going to be any more sarah jane adventures figures. there's plans for four more waves of series four figures though and hopefully the classic figures do well and we end up with all the doctors.

even doctor eight. i really want doctor eight. i'd quite like them to do some doctor eight episodes and cement him into the canon. that movie was awful true enough but with a rethink and some beter scripting/direction it could work.

oh and i just heard from Forbidden planet on the fate of that beige scarecrow i ordered. it aint coming. which i knew anyway. i just wondered how good their customer service really is. coz the reality is the at character options may have let a few samples go through but the decision ws made to change the colour on the scarecrow to the blue and the beige one never hit general retail or was exclusive to an e-tailer. Forbidden planet are just crap.

Cheers for that, I'll have to check out Tesco this afty... I won't get my hopes up though, as their selection of toys is rubbish. I checked Woolies yesterday, and they had nothing new... mind you, I was in a teeny Woolies last week, and someone was buying a new Donna figure.... didn't see anything else on the shelves though.

Looks like they'll be everywhere pretty soon though. It was weird seeing LC Toys on the list... they used to be my local import shop, I was in there almost every day! But they closed the shop last year, and mainly sell on Amazon now.

FP are useless.... I've lost count how many times I've pre-ordered from them, and never got my stuff, they don't even bother to let you know it's not coming in, they just keep the order open in case it turns up one day.

Edit: Just been to Tesco... no classic figures :( but I did get an Ood Sigma, a Natural Ood and a Pyrovile Priestess. :) Popped into Woolies again, still nothing but stacks of the empty Cassandra frames (that's got to be the biggest rip-off ever!!) and Gelth Zombies. They also had the Daleks in Manhatten set marked down to a tenner, which seemed like a good deal.

Woolworths had all of the Sontaran wave in today, but only one or two of each. The Sontarans look great, but I'm waiting on the box set for them and Donna. There was only one Doctor with Adipose, and his paint apps weren't too good, so I passed on him too. And I already have the other three. So not a very fruitful shopping trip, but it was nice to see them.

My local TRU had a new (to the US) item, a $50 gigantic remote control Dalek, something about being an Imperial Guard. Talks, lights up, ears and eye come off for some reason. I loved hearing its dialog through the try-me packaging though, that was cool to see and realize some kid might actually be lucky enough to get one (or even want one).

they should do something spontaneous and make figures based on the time war it would make an interesting movie as well?

Jargo
09-09-2008, 03:45 PM
this isn't a spoiler as it's come from sources like the sun newspaper but there are rumours that the time war will be touched on in the special episodes next year. so who knows. there's also rumour that a movie is in the works and catherine zeta jones is being pursued to play a monster character.

:catherine and ancient man joke:

in other news the Davros and Supreme Dalek/Dalek/Doctor 10 'Journey's end' boxset pre-orders are showing up for some people so the set should be hitting retail very soon.

I saw stuff yesterday in liverpool city centre but had no cash on me or credit card. how bummed out was I. Worlds Apart on Lime street were selling figures at 9.99. I left without a second thought. Ripoff merchants! I actually spoke to an employee there a few years back and know the policy is to bump up prices to take advantage of tourists. And with so many tourists in town for capital of culture they must think the money tree has blossomed.

I've vowed never to buy anything from them. don't care if they are a local small business or not. they're bastages.

the bbc have denied the 8th doctor rumour.

read this interview with the Character options dude. http://www.doctorwhotoys.net/characteroptions.htm for news on the line and tell me if you don't think as i do that the guy is a total douche.

sebillba
09-13-2008, 04:25 PM
He comes across as a total nobhead. So, the line is totally geared towards kids, and collectors aren't considered at all? That's nice to know. So that's why they came out with an old lady figure with no face then. And why bother with the classic figures? Do kids even know who Tom Baker is, apart from being the voice from Little Britain?!

crazydave75
09-14-2008, 01:26 PM
i dont think theyre all well sculpted either 10th dr in his suits a bit naff his suit jacket to bulky production pics ive seen make it look well fitted a bit of a moan i know but things like that do my head in:yes:

Jargo
09-14-2008, 03:26 PM
yeah the dude seems to think that getting a face right equals having a solid grade A figure. I mean how many times have they released the Moxx of Balhoon and not done anything to add articulation to his arms so he doesn't look like a retard. why sculpt him with his arms outspread in the first place? bad decision making.
same as if there's only going to be one Donna figure why not have her in the brown leather coat she wore on more than one occasion rather than the hooded winter coat she wore once.

Alasdair Dewar is a first rate douche and I'd like to punch him in the face repeatedly until he squeals like a little girl and wets his pants.

crazydave75
09-14-2008, 05:40 PM
i mean honestly wot would it take for them to get it right its a suit jacket make it smaller ! why do some toy makers have problems with proportion i mean do they not look at the figure and think" that looks a bit crap?" honestly wake up character options and other toy companies listen to us

Jargo
09-14-2008, 07:33 PM
worst who figure by far is the Editor. the proportions are so far out it's like they just grabbed a few spare parts and shoved a head on it.
