After Lando orders the evacuation of Cloud City, all of the citizens run around like they are going somewhere. One guy even brought his ice cream maker. However, we never see any ships in the background taking off. Shouldn't Lando and Chewie have hit just a little traffic getting out of there?

That is a great point. Maybe Lando knew the back streets clouds and got them around traffic

Perhaps they got to the "lifeboats" and ships only to find the Empire had locked them down or something.

Or maybe it was like in Louisiana and they were running to loot like after Katrina...

But we know that the ones on Bespin who lived still had their ice cream!

They all stowed away on the Falcon. Which is why they couldn't jump into hyperspace, just too heavy, so R2 shot them all out the airlock and off our heroes went.

Running to your ships might seem like a good initial move. Taking off in them to run an Imperial blockade may, however, give you pause for thought.

What blockade though? It's just 1 Super Star Destroyer, there's nothing on the other side of the planet preventing them from leaving that way... of course, the same could be said about the Falcon, and it ran right into the SSD's clutches (though it may have been being herded by TIEs).

Yeah, Han tends to gravitate towards the Destroyers for some reason. He flew directly at Vader's at the end of ESB. Before the asteroid field, he didn't evade the incoming two Destroyers until the last possible minute. In ROTJ, he pilots the stolen shuttle right at the main control tower on Vader's Destroyer.

Han did what at the end of ESB? ;)

You forgot to mention his encounter in ANH when he blasted out of Mos Eisley.
