View Full Version : QUESTIONS FOR HASBRO - round 40

10-19-2007, 03:21 PM
Please post your VOTE for up to 6 {six} of the questions provided in this thread, letting us know which ones you most want to see asked on Friday, November 2nd. Keep in mind that your votes in round 39 do not count in this round, so if your question is still on the list you may want to vote for it again.

Also, feel free to post new questions. For reference, here are Hasbro's answers to previous SSG questions (http://www.sirstevesguide.com/index.php?categoryid=13&p2_articleid=716); to ActionFigs.com's questions (http://www.actionfigs.com/index.php?categoryid=12&p2_articleid=1384); and from other sites (http://www.sirstevesguide.com/index.php?categoryid=13&p2_articleid=510). The questions we asked last round can be found here (http://forums.sirstevesguide.com/showthread.php?p=576829#post576829).

Current questions (vote for up to 6):

- Canadaian collectors miss out on a many of the US-only store exclusives. Any chance Canadians could have every exclusive figure/vehicle/combination made available on shop.starwars.com after their shelf runs in the US stores?
- If Hasbro feels that mid-sized vehicles is the way to go, then will we be seeing more airspeeders and landspeeders in the forseeable future? Some of the airspeeders are pretty much snubfighter sized.
- Eventually will all the Episode III Clone Commanders be released as an entire set?
- In recent years, many Darth Vader figures have included a silver piece of fabric material around the neck to represent the chain that holds Vader's cape on. However, every time this feature has been included, the "chain" ends up looking too big and out-of-place, while Vader figures that do not include this chain end up looking much better. In the interest of accuracy, could the chain either be scaled down (to better match its look in Episodes III, V, and VI), or done as sculpted plastic (as on earlier incarnations), or simply left off (as in Episode IV) on future Darth Vader figures?
- Some collectors missed out on the Vintage-style figures and now must look to ebay and other wretched hives of scum and villainy for these fine figures. What is the likelihood of seeing any or all of those Vintage-style figures rereleased and getting more of collectors' money directly? (They'd prefer to give it to you rather than overpriced after-market guys.)
- Will we be seeing the Titanium AOTC Jedi Starfighter repainted in all the color schemes the figure scale one has come in (Clone Wars teal, Saesee Tiin's), the way it is currently slated for a Plo Koon repaint?
- The Snowspeeder has only been an exclusive item in the past two releases for it where prior releases were regular mass-retail. Why the exclusivity and accompanying higher pricepoint on this vehicle? If it's due to its somewhat large size compared to other vehicles, could it be scaled down to accurate proportions (since it is actually a little too large as-is) and released in the $20 line?
- Are there folks today at Hasbro who were working on the Star Wars line back when it was reborn in 1995? Was there any clue behind-the-scenes back then that the Star Wars toy line would garner such a huge adult collector following? Were adult collectors considered at all on any level back then when forging the line's beginnings? What do you folks think of the extensive adult collector enthusiasm for the line today, 12 years later?
- Why is it that Hasbro produces some vehicles that are incredibly difficult, even impossible, to fit regular figures inside such as the Ep 1 Flash Speeder, or Ep 2 Zam's & Anakin's Speeder?
- Twice during the prequels, a vehicle toy's MSRP was dropped significantly without any changes to its mold - the first being the Episode I Naboo Royal Starship which went from $100 to $50, and the second being the Republic Gunship which in the Saga line was $40 but subsequent releases were $30. What were the causes of these price drops? Why hasn't this happened with other vehicles in similar high pricepoints?
- With there being so much competition in regards to high end collecting with other licensees, has Hasbro considered perhaps making the figures' accessories out of metal like the already established saber hilts from the 2002 Saga line? (This was even recently used again with the reissued Sith Training Darth Maul from the end of the TSC line.) They could also do it this time with blasters and other non-lightsaber accessories as well.
- Hasbro still seems to be focusing a lot on Revenge of the Sith. The Target-exclusive Order 66 packs seemed to do alright with casual consumers and hardcore fans, so would Hasbro consider making similar packs based on Attack of the Clones? For example, a clone trooper in each pack with either a Jedi or a Separatist force.
- The new Clone Trooper and Rebel Trooper role-play blasters are pretty cool and seem to be selling fairly well out of the gate. With that in mind, will Hasbro be offering more role-play weapons such as all-new sculpts of Han's blaster, the Stormtrooper blaster (with more accurate size and folded stock under the barrel), Biker Scout pistol, and perhaps even larger ones like the Hoth Rebel rifle and Clone Trooper long rifle?
- What are the requirements that a retailer must go meet to get a Star Wars exclusive, do they have to be a certain size company, make a certain number of Hasbro orders a month, etc.? Is there some sort of process that a retailer has to go through to get an exclusive, do they work with Hasbro on what item to produce or is it out of their hands?
- In the SW Republic #31 Comic 2pack, why does the A'Sharad Hett figure come with the traditional "bandage wrapped" Tusken Raider head coverings rather than the accurate "leather wrapped"-style one that he wore in the comics which made him visually unique? What do you say to A'Sharad Hett fans that are going to be disappointed they're not getting the character as accurately as they hoped?
- A few Battlepacks have featured Jedi, a Clone Commander, and three Clone Troopers. Will we see this concept applied to more sets in the future, perhaps something like Ki-Adi-Mundi, a grittier repaint of Commander Bacara, and three Galactic Marines? What about extending this idea to the other films beyond Ep III?
- Many collectors have noted that Moff Jerjerrod was not a great seller and can still be found in stores, while it seemed as though Admiral Ozzel, Captain Piett, and Grand Moff Tarkin seemed to have sold better. There are times where Hasbro really nails a likeness, but unfortunately Moff Jerjerrod did not look like the actor and had an angry facial expression not seen in Return of the Jedi. Would Hasbro ever consider resculpting this figure or does the perceived poor performance of the Jerjerrod figure make it unlikely he would ever be revisited. Do you agree that if this figure sold poorly it may have been in part because of a poor likeness?
- Would Hasbro consider releasing a complete set of clone troopers with only a basic, plain white deco? Many customizers would enjoy having a blank clone to decorate with their own designs, and regular fans could enjoy the uniform look - the white AT-RT Driver from the Ep 3 Commemorative Tin set looks great and is easy to customize. So how about a box set with all the various clone types without specialized deco or even weathering? It could even be offered in simpler packaging, white mailer boxes with simple baggies.
- The idea of having 2 Battle Droids on a single basic card is a good one, as it lets fans build up armies quickly and cheaply. However, the Saga Legends Battle Droid 2packs feature very distinct-looking droids - the first set has a Commander, and the others all have battle damage - resulting in droids not suited for army-building due to identical markings. Will future versions of this 2pack be released in "clean" versions for more army-building potential? In the same vein, will this set ever be retooled to allow the droids to hold the blaster with both hands as the movies consistently showed them, and a few previous figures emulated?
- In the Galactic Heroes line we have just gotten an AT-AT Commander and Driver figures. Might that increase chances of getting a Galactic Heroes AT-AT?
- Since the Saga Legends line is geared more towards selling to casual collectors and kids, has there been any consideration about releasing them primarily only around the Christmas build-up time when the demand for toys is at its peak?
- With Commander Neyo from the Treachery on Saleucami set being among the winners of the Saga Legends fan choice poll, would you please pack in a second, generic belt with him the way you're doing with the Gray Clone Commander figure in the Saga Legends line? That way, the Neyo-style troopers could be represented by this same figure (remove the pauldron, swap the belt, voila), leading to more sales of the guy.
- Why are nearly all of the Galactic Heroes figures smiling, even bad guys like Tarkin and the AT-AT Commander?
- In the Art of Revenge of the Sith book, there was a detailed piece of concept art from Aaron McBride of the Mon Calamari Female Dancer. The concept is applied in ROTS as the dancers in the Squid Lake scene (yes, it's really called that). What are the chances of seeing this Mon Cal Dancer design turned into a figure, especially using the striking design from the concept art? And if you were to make her into a figure, would you give her a name?
- Considering that the body for CZ-4 was also used in A New Hope in the Sandcrawler (CZ-1) and in Mos Eisley (CZ-3), will we ever see a repaint of the CZ-4 figure to be these new characters? They could be done as a running change or put into Battlepacks.
- Since there has been buzz about doing a Willrow Hood (ice cream guy) figure, is there a chance that you'll visit other obscure characters from Bespin such as Treva Horme, Wiorkettle, and Utris M'toc? These characters are visually more interesting than Hood (many people think so), and Trooper M'toc could be the basis for a potential army builder as he's a Bespin security officer.
- Will the 2008 Wave 1 Mustafar Lava Droid & Platform have pegs on them so Obi-Wan, Anakin, and the Mustafar Lava Miner can stand on them?
- Hypothetically, assuming there were 2 large battle packs coming out this holiday season, 1 from ESB and another from ROTJ, and both of these sets had versions of the AT-ST vehicle in them, why so many AT-STs at once? Granted, some collectors still don't have a version of the AT-ST vehicle, but would they really want 2 different sets with them coming out at the same time, hypothetically speaking?
- With the inclusion of KotOR charaters Darth Revan and Darth Malak in the TAC line, and Darth Nihilus in one of the upcoming Evolutions packs, is Hasbro considering including KotOR vehicles in the Titanium 3' line such as the Ebon Hawk, Leviathon, and Sith Fighter?
- Hasbro's made it clear that the McQuarrie Signature series concept figures have exceeded expectations. There's plenty more concept art designs to mine for new takes on main characters, villains, creatures, and more. With the Evolutions line returning with new concepts, would Hasbro consider doing a McQuarrie- or concept-art-inspired Evolutions pack, showing the different stages of a character from inception to finalization? Also, can we hope to see concept figures from ROTJ some day?
- With the awesome VOTC Boba Fett figure released in the Saga Legends line, might we get an ESB-themed repaint with the green gauntlets, darker jumpsuit, brown cape, green rocketpack, and white gloves?
- Is Hasbro considering continuing the Galactic Heroes line with more figures from Jabba's Palace (like Tessek, J'quille, Oola, the band etc.) and the Mos Eisley Cantina (like Elis Helrot, Kitik Keed'kak, Muftak etc.)? Also, bounty hunters Aurra Sing and Zam Wesell would be round out the bounty hunter set nicely.
- Since Hasbro is showing some interest in SW: Battlefront, releasing the multipacks and the Rebel Vanguard figure, will the rocket launcher from the Battlefront II Clone pack be included if a blue ARC Trooper is ever released on single card again? (It's the weapon he carries in the first Battlefront game.)
- Will you ever release any Neimoidians & Separatist Leaders in the Galactic Heroes line?
- Several recent multipacks featuring EU figures - such as the Rebel Commando, Battlefront, and Mandalorian sets - seem rather popular with collectors. Has there been any consideration given for using the multipack format for characters that have only appeared in novels? Perhaps the Myrkr strike team of Jedi from Star by Star, or maybe members of Rogue and Wraith Squadrons in box sets, something like that?
- Does Hasbro have something against Wedge Antilles? Biggs gets 2 figures this year while our boy Wedge - who survives the OT and beyond - only gets his head plopped on an already existing body as an exclusive or pack in every now and then. What are the chances of seeing a new Wedge single carded in the main line anytime soon?
- Will you please shed some light on rumored vehicles for next year? In specific the report of the AT-TE as well as the now rumored Homing Spider Droid and V-19 Torrent (clone starfighter). Also with regards to the AT-TE in specific, what size are we looking at, any pack-in figures, when will it come out, how many figures will it hold, any electronics, what's its pricepoint, and anything else you deem pertinent to this question?
- Do you have any plans to release the V-Wing Fighter in Imperial colors as seen at the end of ROTS?Vote now, and suggest new questions too. Thanks for participating!

Question 6 modified.

(any suggestion for an addition to it?)

Also, apparently Hasbro's getting tired of all the idea submissions, they just sent this out:
We wanted to send a note to all of you, our loyal participants in Hasbro’s Star Wars brand team Q&A, because we have recently begun to see more and more inquiries/questions re: Hasbro’s ideation process, submission of product ideas (from outside individuals), etc. Please read below for information on Hasbro’s protocol for such matters. (This is the proper procedure for ALL TOY BRANDS – not just Star Wars.)

In other words, "We want your feedback, but don't tell us what you want."

Every day, Hasbro seems more like they can help women the world over feel less... not so fresh.

Common sense should tell them that if a customer provides a suggestion regarding a LICENSED line which another company owns all trademarks and copyrights thereof, then A) said person would have absolutely no grounds to sue if the idea were used, B) the product being from an existing property, there'd be no proof whatsoever where the idea originated, and C) said person is a potential buyer and probably would rather have the damned _______* than take the time to sue.

*--Insert whatever SW product in the blank. I'd choose Yarna, but apparently I'm not allowed to tell them what I want.

If Hasbro's going to restrict what we can ask them by taking out ideas etc etc, what's left to ask? All of the questions will be 'Hi...so...how are you today?'. It becomes a completely pointless exercise.

They're not saying we can't send them, just what to expect when we do - which is to say, not much. So that leaves policy questions - "why do you do this?" "can't you stop doing X?" - and questions of what's coming (though those are quite hit-or-miss).

Oh new question:

Why is it that invariably, any AotC Clone Trooper will come with just the blaster carbine even though most used the full sized rifle, and yet RotS Clones come with both carbine and rifle?

Now that we have decent renditions of the Dark Woman and A'sharad Hett, is Hasbro planning on doing a new super articulated version of their enemy Aurra Sing?

Also, is Hasbro considering continuing the Galactic Heroes line with more figures from Jabba's Palace (like Tessek, J'quille, Oola, the band etc.) and the cantina (like Elis Helrot, Kitik Keed'kak, Muftak etc.) Also, bounty hunters Aurra Sing and Zam Wesell would be welcome!

11, 13, 16, 21 and 22.

My 6th vote goes to a new question-

Since Hasbro is showing some interest in Battlefront from releasing the Rebel Vanguard and multipacks, will the rocket launcher from the Battlefront II Clone pack be included if a blue ARC Trooper is ever released on single card again? (He carries this in the first Battlefront)

Even if they were to just reply with some formal "We won't blahblahblah" (assuming it got voted for) at the very least it puts the idea in their heads.

Btw, I think this question can be stricken (or modified?):

6 - Will we be seeing the Titanium AOTC Jedi Starfighter repainted in all the color schemes the figure scale one has come in (Clone Wars teal, Saesee Tiin's), the way it is currently slated for a Plo Koon repaint?

Since Saesee's starfighter is coming out, that would just leave Kit's and the Clone Wars one. Considering Hasbro's love of repaints don't seem to be going away, I'd say it's a good bet we'll see them.

My vote:

#31

This is the best Boba Fett to date, and the Legends one has deeper peg-holes in his feet, so Hasbro corrected the VOTC goof with this little overlooked improvement.
I would very much like to see this Fett used again in a repaint.

I think question #27 probaly needs update, or stricken as we have the pics of the Mustafar Lava Droid in the "2008 Wave 1" thread clearly showing pegs on the platform.

I'll hold my other votes for later and see what develops.

JT, has Habro answered any questions regarding a resculpt of Zuckuss, or should we collector's just get a POTF2 edition for the time being?Back in June:

JediDefender.com: This year we've seen new, super articulated figure upgrades of Bossk, IG-88, and 4-LOM. That leaves Dengar and Zuckuss in need of toys up to par with their bounty hunter counterparts. It's been 3 years since the latest version of Dengar came out and almost 10 years since Zuckuss was released. Is there any chance we'll get a new Dengar and Zuckuss in 2008 to go along with the other super articulated bounty hunters?
Hasbro: We agree that the Bounty Hunters all need premium upgrades to vintage standards at some point soon (within the next couple of years). It's more likely to be Zuckuss before Dengar, though.

New question:

What is the status of the STAP attack battle pack you showed us at Toy Fair? Has it been pushed back, replaced with another BP, or cancelled altogether? It has been canceled from the main line because it wouldn't fit in the box, they are looking at an alternative way of releasing it, probably an odd-shaped box as a retailer-exclusive.

I'll be dealing with the rest of the posts as soon as I can.

Questions 32-33 added.

Oh new question:

Why is it that invariably, any AotC Clone Trooper will come with just the blaster carbine even though most used the full sized rifle, and yet RotS Clones come with both carbine and rifle? It's been asked a few times:

3-2-07
Rebelscum.com: With all the Clone Trooper figures being released, there's a significant shortage of rifles among my clone armies. Especially for AOTC Phase I Clone Troopers, who carried rifles, not blasters, yet they are always packed with blasters (why is that, anyway?) Has Hasbro considered a clone trooper weapons pack with rifles, binoculars, new pistol and rifle sculpts (ARC Trooper pistols and sniper rifles maybe?) and perhaps gunship turrets? And will the Saga Legends clones (all colors) fix this recurring error?
Hasbro: This is a good comment that we've heard from many different avenues, and we'll look at it. It's unlikely we'll do the ball turret in something like this venue, though.

1-26-07
JediInsider.com: With all the Super-Articularted (SA) clones being released, there's a significant lack of rifles for clone armies. Has Hasbro considered a weapons pack of rifles and other assorted clone gear to help clone army builders?
Hasbro: We have heard fans, and we are considering this for a future year. What would fans ideally like to see in such a pack?

I voted for two questions earlier. Here are my votes so far:

32

I liked the question sent in last round about more concept figures, but I wish the Revwien alien was named specifically in the question. I forgot I even wanted that figure made untill that question was asked! It would be nice to plant the seed (pun intended ) in Hasbro's mind.

I think another way of asking question 17 could be "Why do you, Hasbro, feel that Jerjerrod was such a poor seller? Do you think his questionable likeness had anything to do with it? Does this hurt the chances of seeing other Imperial officers done as basic figures?"

Honestly I don't really think that likeness had anything to do with him selling poorly. He's such an obscure, uninteresting human character that most kids probably don't know or care about. Plus he was shipped heavily to my area at least. In my area he managed not to pegwarm too bad, nor did Lushros Dofine, but I guess he's pegwarming many other places for this question to be an issue. My guess is he was just overproduced and overshipped.

That's why I didn't worry too much about it. :p It annoyed me, but all these ideas are already Lucas', he owns the trademarks, so it's just telling Hasbro to get off their behinds and make 'em finally. There are times when that goes too far, but there are still a lot of questions on our list I wouldn't feel awkward asking Hasbro in person (which is VERY different from 5 months ago, might I add).

I dunno, I bought Lushros Dofine but not Jerjerrod - he was the first basic carded Imp officer I didn't buy because of his likeness issues and his uncharacteristic posing.

I've bought every basic carded Imp officer released so far, and while most of them have been decent figures all-around, all of them have gotten dumped in the "boring figure bin". I can't bring myself to display them because they are all so ho-hum to look at, and as action figures they don't really do anything special. Kindof like the senators only not in colorful outfits or nifty aliens. I passed on the Death Star Briefing room set for this reason, and will probably pass on any more sets like that in the future. I would imagine that they are just as boring to most kids out there as well. Jerjerrod gets a bad rap from us collectors of course because of the likeness and posing issues, but we aren't the only ones buying the figures remember. Plus he was in more than 1 assortment, and he was shipped heavily alongside other pegwarmers like Endor C-3P0 and the Endor Trooper.

I didn't buy the DS Briefing for the same reason, I just don't have any room in my collection for something that passive and uninteresting. Of course, I feel the same way about half the Jabba's Palace aliens and a TON of prequel designs, so there are different tastes out there.

Do we really need question 31? We're getting an SA ESB Boba in the Evolutions set. That's a good point, I'll take it under advisement. For now I'm leaving it because we don't know how good the Evo Boba will actually be - people told me to take down the Bespin Han question a while back because they were convinced Torture Han would be the one, and look how that turned out.

Back in June:

Awesome -- thanks. I will keep waiting then.

New question,

Will you ever release any Neimoidians & Separatist Leaders in the Galactic Heroes line?I'm adding this but expecting that it may end up modified at some point to give it broader appeal.

Since the IFT-X has played roles in all the Battlefront Video games and in the comics, any chance that we will see it in plastic soon?We asked something similar and got this answer on Aug 17th:
Q: Since the AAT has been rereleased with the mid-sized vehicles, will the similarly-sized TX-130 Saber-class tank - seen in the Star Wars: Clone Wars and Battlefront videogames - ever be made? The vehicle was even used for both Republic and Imperial troops in Battlefront II.
A: We have looked at the TX-130 and it is a cool vehicle, but right now would only go after it if it was featured in the upcoming Clone Wars animation.
I was one of the proponents of them doing it, so the answer was disheartening but at least definitive unlike some of their answers.

Voting for 16 and 17 but I'd also like to add two questions.

Various multipacks featuring EU figures such as the Republic Commando, Battlefront, and Mando/Clone sets seem to be rather popular with collectors. Has any consideration been put into using this format for characters that have only appeared in novels, and as such aren't viable for the comic packs? I dream of getting the Jedi Strike team from Star by Star and the Rogues and Wraiths in box sets. Or is this not a desirable format since some of these characters may not be easily created from existing figures?

and

Does Hasbro have something against Wedge Antilles? Biggs gets two figures this year and our boy Wedge who survives the OT and beyond only gets his head plopped on an already existing body as an exclusive or pack in every now and then. What are the chances of seeing a new Wedge single carded in the main line anytime soon?

Here is my submission.
Will you please shed some light on rumored vehicles for next year? In specific the report of the AT-TE as well as the now rumored Homing Spider Droid, and V-19 Torrent (clone starfighter).
If all three of these pan out to be true and are in the 2008 line-up, I'm going to be one VERY happy fan/collector and promise to buy in multiples!
Also with regards to the AT-TE in specific, would you please tell us the scale, any pack-in figures, how many figures will it hold, where those figures will be able to be placed in the vehicle, any electronics, and anything else you deem pertinent to this question?

Thank you.

NEW QUESTIONS:

Will Hasbro confirm the plans to release the AT-TE vehicle for the Clone Wars line in the Fall of 2008 at around the MSRP of $100?

Does Hasbro feel the level of demand for Galactic Heroes' movie vehicles warrants another look at doing the TIE Fighter, Slave-One, Republic Gunship and so forth for the little figures?

With the success of the Ralph McQuarrie figure series, would Hasbro consider a TRISHA BIGGER tribute figure series, which would be another way to release many of the unproduced Padme Amidala costumes? A step further might be a Ben Burt series with sound effects in the action figure stands (Chewie, Vader, R2, TIE Pilot, Grievous, etc.)

The TIE Fighter vehicle has several of the most distinct Star Wars sound effects in its fly-byes and laser cannons. Why have electronics been omitted in every release of this vehicle in the modern line? There are opportunities here with the regular TIE and the Interceptor, even perhaps the Bomber. C'mon: admit it - TIE Fighters are totally cool!

My Votes:

[26] - Since there has been buzz about doing a Willrow Hood (ice cream guy) figure, is there a chance that you'll visit other obscure characters from Bespin such as Treva Horme, Wiorkettle, and Utris M'toc? These characters are visually more interesting than Hood (many people think so), and Trooper M'toc could be the basis for a potential army builder as he's a Bespin security officer.

[35] - Several recent multipacks featuring EU figures - such as the Rebel Commando, Battlefront, and Mandalorian sets - seem rather popular with collectors. Has there been any consideration given for using the multipack format for characters that have only appeared in novels? Perhaps the Myrkr strike team of Jedi from Star by Star, or maybe members of Rogue and Wraith Squadrons in box sets, something like that?

A new question:

Hasbro has stated that it wishes to "complete the cantina scene". Has Hasbro given any thought to doing figures of cantina aliens appearing first in the Holiday Special and concept art? Many of the aliens in the Holiday Special are unique species not seen in the movie (such as Thorp the pale Sakiyan, Ket Maliss, the Y'bith alien, Kelbo, Myhr Rho, the Tin-Tin Dwarf alien, Cebann Veekan), and there is the plant-like Revwien alien first seen in concept art by Ron Cobb that never made it into the movie. The Revwien would make a nice accessory or bonus figure as its design would not allow for a very articulated basic figure. Could any of these be possibilities for the future?

You know what? Hasbro just answered a question very similar to my last one about the Holiday Special cantina on Galactichunter and it doesn't look like theyre very enthusiastic about doing any Holiday special cantina characters at all unless they are repaints. Still would like to know if the Revwien is out of the question. :( Doesn't look good at all for Ackmena tho, but I could've guessed that. It also doesn't appear that Hasbro isnt really aware of the characters I've mentioned and that there are original designs to be looked into. Oh, and the "white Djas Puhr" is actually Thorp (a Sakiyan like Puhr only of the pale race). I wonder, could we send Hasbro a list of these aliens to at least make them take them into consideration?

Thorp (the pale Sakiyan)
Ket Maliss
the Y'bith alien (give 'im a name)
Kelbo
Myhr Rho
the Tin-Tin Dwarf alien (give 'im a name)
Cebann Veekan
the Revwien alien (concept art by Ron Cobb, and give 'im a name too!)

Galactic Hunter: Hasbro has made it clear that the Holiday Special is mostly off-limits for figure consideration. I understand your reservations since it is painfully hard to watch. Since we did receive a Star Wars Holiday Special figure in the Power of the Jedi line is 2001 (Zutton - Snaggletooth) which NEVER appeared in A New Hope and we were just blessed with the Animated Debut: Boba Fett this year, could you please just check out the Star Wars Chronicles (big coffee table book) and just see some of the cool additional cantina aliens that could be created if you would just open your hearts? There are some amazing creatures (some even cooler than what made it to the movie cut) that were developed for this special including a white Djas Puhr among others that would be very welcomed additions to our cantina dioramas. (-From reader Paul Mancil)

[Adam's Note: Bea Arthur as Ackmena counts as an amazing creature! She's a former United States Marine and a Golden Girl! And Maude!]
HASBRO: For the most part any new aliens that require new tooling would be on-screen aliens from the six movies. If there are repaint opportunities, we could certainly check it out - this might make an intriguing multi-pack exclusive

YodasNews.com: If electronics, lights and sounds are so expensive to add to vehicles, why dos Hasbro keep reissuing the electronic R2-D2? I would think that current technology would make it cheaper through the use of LEDs and sound chips rather than battery powered motors and grain-of-wheat bulbs.
Hasbro: No new product development (other than updated packaging) is needed, so this is an ideal item for us to keep in the line as long as demand remains high. At this point, we wouldn't achieve a cost-savings sufficient enough to offset the substantial rework costs.

JT, I think you might have just been in a bad mood when you didn't want to add my questions:

1. With the TIE Fighter electronics one - I want to beg the issue, not relegate their answer about R2D2's electronics. If there was fan enthusiasm for an electronic TIE, I'd rather force them to take note of it. I understand their answer, but I want to see if a group of us is interested in pushing them toward doing it.

2. With regards to the Trisha Bigger Collection (like the McQuarrie ones), I know you personally don't want another 14 figures of Padme, or whatever they'd need to do to get all of her outfits made. Note: a Trisha Bigger Collection would probably only add maybe 6 of them or something anyway. But I don't think it's as specific as "will you make Padme in her yellow dress from the picnic in the meadows?" That'd be like asking for the Ralph McQuarrie concept droids, versus a general question asking about a collection. And also note: I didn't buy Hoth "General McQuarrie" and I don't want any action figures made to resemble Trisha Bigger or Ben Burt. I'd just see if others voted for the question to support that sort of line.

3. I did NOT see Sal's post about the AT-TE before I posted my question. I just want it confirmed, so please add my vote for his question if his is the one "counting."

4. Phrase the Galactic Heroes' vehicle question how you'd want it, but my general idea is to see if others around here want to vote to press that issue with them (for a GH gunship, TIE, Slave-One, AT-AT, etc.)? I think they answered a question similar to this with their "well we did those transforming GH vehicles" and again, if people vote along with me, I want to press them about the issue again.

With regards to asking questions over and over again, pressing Hasbro about issues (we did it with Yarna - or other sites did apparently) - it works as they eventually get the point. It actually works as it should. I mean take the "Bea Aurthur Holiday Special Figure." I don't think most of us want that and the people who support it are joking. If it gets asked once, Hasbro might also think that. If (like Yarna), the topic just won't go away, they deal more specifically with it. The AT-TE questions are coming along this way. It was "Will you make it?" before (answer" "It it's in the CW series.") Now that it is, it's "Will you confirm it for a targeted release date (Fall '08)?" Pressing an issue works. Believe me, if I could think of anything else better to ask, I would have, such as "Would you consider making a SW Onion Pealer?" - j/k.

1. With the TIE Fighter electronics one - I want to beg the issue, not relegate their answer about R2D2's electronics. If there was fan enthusiasm for an electronic TIE, I'd rather force them to take note of it. I understand their answer, but I want to see if a group of us is interested in pushing them toward doing it.They explained their position on the matter a mere month ago. We have plenty of questions that deserve answers before that. I'm tired of letting the Q&A get hijacked into a "make this, make that" beg-a-thon, especially for stuff that doesn't have major support from the collectors, such as this issue.

2. With regards to the Trisha Bigger Collection (like the McQuarrie ones), I know you personally don't want another 14 figures of Padme, or whatever they'd need to do to get all of her outfits made. And also note: I didn't buy Hoth "General McQuarrie" and I don't want any action figures made to resemble Trisha Bigger or Ben Burt. I'd just see if others voted for the question to support that sort of line.Trisha Biggar is nowhere near as influential as Ralph McQuarrie - the man who invented the look of Star Wars. There's no way Hasbro's going to do that right now, the McQuarrie concept figure idea had been passed around the collecting community gaining strength for YEARS before it caught on, and that only came up decades after the material had entrenched itself in our society. All Ms. Biggar's work is in the prequels, none of which is even a decade old and likely will never have the same resonance as the originals, it's a weaker position than just asking for the 14 Padme figures directly (which we've already done a few times), so you may as well be asking for a pot of gold for all the likelihood that question will get a positive response - as such, I'm not going to waste one of our precious 12 questions a month on it.

Hasbro's not doing sounds in figures right now either, that TIE Fighter question answered that issue as well, and Ben Burtt's influence is really only felt in the movies after Star Wars, while he did a lot of work on ANH he was only an underling and didn't know how to work with the sound equipment at the time. If you want to find out how many people are interested in the concept, start a forums thread like we did back in the day for McQuarrie concept art figures (though I think Joe Johnston would be miffed if Ben Burtt got action figures before his designs).

3. I did NOT see Sal's post about the AT-TE before I posted my question. I just want it confirmed, so please add my vote for his question if his is the one "counting."Counted.

4. I think they answered a question similar to this with their "well we did those transforming GH vehicles" and again, if people vote along with me, I want to press them about the issue again.I don't see how the question is any different from the last 3 times it's been asked. We have an AT-AT question up already, it's got a solid foundation. But there's no great outcry for vehicles that I've seen, a small group of people kinda want them but there's no hunger for 'em. I can't think of a foundation for your question that differs from the last time we asked them about it, and that was a far cry better question than the one you threw at me:
Q: Hasbro has previously said that vehicles for the Galactic Heroes line did not sell well, but the only vehicles that have been released in the Galactic Heroes line itself are 2 re-releases of previous Playskool vehicles at higher pricepoints and 2 transforming vehicles taken from an unrelated line. The Galactic Heroes line has only 2 movie vehicles to choose from, the Millennium Falcon and the X-wing, but no vehicles for them to fight. Given that there is now a TIE Fighter Pilot, it seems only natural to make a TIE Fighter around the same size as the X-wing. What might be done to rectify this situation? Also, are there any plans to re-release any of the Star Wars Playskool figures or elements that have not yet been offered in the Galactic Heroes line, such as Wicket or the Wampa or the Naboo Fighter?
A: We are looking at the Galactic Heroes vehicle situation, and agree with you that they deserve another shot. However, before we commit to new vehicles, we have some research to do with kids to get at what they want to see to further their Galactic Heroes experience. We are also looking at getting some of the other un-released Playskool figures and vehicles back out there.
And you'll note that we now have the Naboo Fighter's rerelease, and it's not even selling that well despite being in a not particularly expensive box set.

With regards to asking questions over and over again, pressing Hasbro about issues (we did it with Yarna - or other sites did apparently) - it works as they eventually get the point. Believe me, if I could think of anything else better to ask, I would have, such as "Would you consider making a SW Onion Pealer?" - j/k.We have a limited resource here, and wasting it on nagging Hasbro is not a great use of it. They know this stuff, until we can think of new, solid arguments on these matters, repetition of these questions is utterly pointless because they'll just regurgitate the same answers over and over. Every site on the web has now asked about playsets, and Sideshow had to approach Hasbro to even get a dialog started on the matter - and it apparently went nowhere. Hasbro is aware of what we're talking about in the forums, what's getting buzz and what isn't - a couple questions aren't going to tip the scales. The AT-TE is not a Q&A success story, for the past 5 years people have been demanding Hasbro make the item, long before the Q&A program, and now that it looks like it's in the new series they're taking the opportunity to make one - Q&A on the matter could have been silent and they still would likely have done it. These Q&As are about knowledge, not about nagging, we want to get into the heads of those who control our favorite toy line with this.

Are you saying you wouldn't want an action figure of Dorothy "Darth Maude" Akmeena Svornak?

Well, that's it for this round. I'm going to tally up the votes and send them off to Hasbro.

Thanks to everybody who participated! Look for a new round of voting soon!

Here's the questions we're asking from this round:

If Hasbro feels that mid-sized vehicles is the way to go, then will we be seeing more airspeeders and landspeeders in the forseeable future? Some of the airspeeders are pretty much snubfighter sized. (side note: this question was the second-oldest question still on our voting list, it was there since round 7, July of 2006!)
With the inclusion of KotOR charaters Darth Revan and Darth Malak in the TAC line, and Darth Nihilus in one of the upcoming Evolutions packs, is Hasbro considering including KotOR vehicles in the Titanium 3" line such as the Ebon Hawk, Leviathon, and Sith Fighter?
In the Art of Revenge of the Sith book, there was a detailed piece of concept art from Aaron McBride of the Mon Calamari Female Dancer. The concept is applied in ROTS as the dancers in the Squid Lake scene (yes, it's really called that). What are the chances of seeing this Mon Cal Dancer design turned into a figure, especially using the striking design from the concept art? And if you were to make her into a figure, would you give her a name?
Hypothetically, assuming there were 2 large battle packs coming out this holiday season, 1 from ESB and another from ROTJ, and both of these sets had versions of the AT-ST vehicle in them, why so many AT-STs at once? Granted, some collectors still don't have a version of the AT-ST vehicle, but would they really want 2 different sets with them coming out at the same time, hypothetically speaking?
Hasbro's made it clear that the McQuarrie Signature series concept figures have exceeded expectations.
Since there has been buzz about doing a Willrow Hood (ice cream guy) figure, is there a chance that you'll visit other obscure characters from Bespin such as Treva Horme, Wiorkettle, and alien Bespin guard Utris M'toc? These characters are visually more interesting than Hood (many people think so), and Trooper M'toc could be the basis for a potential army builder as he's a Bespin security officer.
