View Full Version : Best Figure of TAC - wave 3

JediTricks

Continuing with our "best figure of 2007" poll series...

Which figure do you consider the best from TAC (30th Anniversary Collection) basic wave 3?

Remember, you can use whatever criteria you wish, it's entirely up to you. Maybe you just like the coin, or you were glad to find it, or its articulation was perfect, or you found one painted flawlessly. Whatever makes it the best in your book is fair game.

When we get to the end of the line, we'll put the winners up against each other.

And if you haven't voted in the Wave 2 poll (http://forums.sirstevesguide.com/showthread.php?t=36644) yet, it'll be open until the 9th.

Biggs Darklighter in Academy Uniform all the way!

I think that part of the responsibility for even getting this figure goes to all of us who voted for him in the giant 2004-2005 "scene-by-scene" poll we did here on SSG for figures never-made-before.

He came out excellent, too. I don't know why main character head sculpts sucked so bad in so many cases this year (Phil Collins, etc.) but Biggs came out awesome!

I'm proud to have this figure from the famous "Lost Scenes" in my collection.

I gotta give it to the Storm Trooper on this one, it's the Stormy i've always wanted, SA, Removeable helmet, did i mention he was SA!? Great figure and hopefully Hasbro will keep this one on the pegs for a while. Concept Chewy was a hard pass, as was Biggs, but the Trooper just did it for me. Other than those three i thought this was the less exciting wave of the year.

Jawa and LIN Droid

I went with Biggs. The figure is solid. This was definately one of the figures I was looking forward to this year. Even though I am tired of looking at it on the pegs I am happy to have it. The Stormtrooper was nice but the helmet fell off to easily and since that was the only new part of the figure I can't grade it to high. A close second would be the Jawa and Lin Droid. Great all around pack. If I think to much about it I might change my mind again. The concept Chewie was another great figure but this vote really came down to what I wanted more at the time.

I may be in the minority here, but I gotta give it to the Jawa & LIN droid. I've wanted a LIN droid since I first saw the movie and saw some great customs years later. I really like the SA Stormtrooper, but if you can see a hole in his chest under his chestplate. Love the Biggs, but I'm definitely not a fan of either the McQuarrie concept drawing of Chewie or the actual McChewie figure. I also can't stand the Luke, but gotta love the moisture vaporator. In fact, if that was a choice (for the m.v. alone) I may have chosen that.

This was a great wave. It was harder to pick in this wave than the other two. I would have picked the LIN droid but the Jawa had a funky jacket and the droid itself was VERY underscaled.

The Stormtrooper had a Jango head and it infected my original trilogy.

The Luke figure was terrible, but it had one of the best accessories of the year. (That would be an interesting poll - best accessory.)

Biggs would have been the best figure of the wave if it had come with his cape!

I voted for Concept Chewie. It so retro and looks great. I think it is the tallest figure ever packaged on a card.

Some very nice figs in this wave, but only one awesome figure...... Concept Chewie!! My favourite of the McQuarrie series, and a definite contender for my figure of the year.

I picked Concept Chewie, it took me forever to track this guy down, but he was definitely worth it. He's lacking ball-joint shoulders, but other than that, he's one of the coolest figures ever.

A close second would be the Jawa w/ LIN Droid. Well, I'm not too crazy about yet another salt shaker Jawa figure (in fact, I won't buy another Jawa until Hasbro makes him with soft-goods like the vintage figure). But the LIN Droid was really awesome, even if he was a little small. So, considering how I really only like 50% of this set, it loses out to McChewie.

Academy Biggs was alright, even though he was lacking in detail and articulation and my figure's cape put black stains all over his white coat.

Darth Vader, it's easily the all-around best Darth Vader figure to date, but the fact that he's yet another Darth Vader figure and has a Hayden head really knocks him way off the top spot for me. I'll happily buy this figure again, if they put Sebastian Shaw's likeness underneath.

Stormtrooper, how could I not love yet another Jango-headed OT trooper with a deformed, overly-soft, poorly-detailed, removable helmet? You can see that I'm being sarcastic here. That was a pretty dirty trick for Hasbro to finally release an SA OT Stormtrooper in the basic line, then stick a stupid Jango-head underneath his helmet.

Luke with Moisture Vaporator,.... whatever. I'm not even that thrilled by the Vaporator. I can't recall ever wanting to see one made in 3 3/4" scale.

Jawa with Lin for me. I'm a droid nut - and the Jawa was a nice departure from previous ones.

Concept Chewie was alright - but he's lacking ball-joint shoulders... Actually - I liked this fig too -just not as much as the LIN droid.

Academy Biggs was meh - and not articulated enough.

Darth Vader was meh. I got him for the Ben cloak. Really.

Stormtrooper was good for custom fodder - made a Luke and Han in Stormtrooper from the comic pack Han and Luke. I know Luke is too tall, but it does fine for now.

Luke with Moisture Vaporator - I got for the Vaporator. While the accessory is awesome, the figure is lacking.

the Jawa and LIN droid

2 figures with one being all new? an easy vote for me
the droid is a little small, but close enough in my book
the jawa with the removable vest and bandolier make for easy customs, as does the removable dome and parts for the LIN droid

the concept Chewie would have been my vote if he had the ball jointed shoulders

Biggs looks great, but the cape looks like a cheap last minute addition to me

I would have bought several of the vaporators alone
that Luke is one of the worst likenesses yet

the SA stormtrooper is OK, I don't have a problem with the removable helmet

I could not care less about another Vader, but I didn't know his helmet came off
after I opened him, I put it right on the shelf, out of reach and in the back

I am going to vote for the Stormtrooper, despite the controversy raging amongst some of the forums about him.

He is super articulate, and he is an original trillogy stormtrooper. Those things by themselves get my vote for him. Plus, I was actualy able to FIND him in the store here before he sold out in 20 minutes. That tends to bump him up a bit.

I like the removable helmet, and while I understand the argument against the Jango head under it, I still think it was a nice touch. He fathfuly gaurds the enterance to Lord Vader's personal shuttle, while a hole platoon of sandtroopers maintain security in the area. Since the stormtrooper looks so much like the newer sandtroopers, he fits in well with my little display. Wich gives him another few points.

Though, the number one reason he gets my vote: He is controversial! Love him or hate him, that's got to count for something!

If it hadn't been him, it would have been the Jawa and Mining droid LNV whatsitcalled. I wish I could have at leats FOUND him. Just once. I like Jawas, and I love droids. So for no other reason I'd have voted for him.

Jawa & LIN Droid. Its the best Jawa to date. Even though it is a "salt shaker" type figure, it still has good articulation, especially through the arms. I also like the vest and bandolier. Best of all, no light pipe square on its head. The LIN Droid was done nicely too. I like that they took the time to make the innards of it and cover it with a barely transparent dome. They could have much more easily made this just a solid piece of black plastic.

Just wish I could have found more of them.

1. Jawa with LIN Droid
2. McQuarrie Chewbacca-Looks exactly like whats on the card
3. Stormtrooper-A bit disappointing since the RH gives it a gooseneck appearance.
4. Biggs Darklighter Academy-Nice to have a figure of this.
5. Darth Vader-Obi-Wan's robe is nice, otherwise its just another Vader.
6. Luke Skywalker-Better head could have made this a decent figure. Vaporator is excellent.

Mad Slanted Powers

This was a tough choice. I was originally going to go with Chewbacca, but I went with the Jawa & LIN Droid instead. The droid was one of the easily recognizable ones from that iconic scene. The vest does seem not quite right on the Jawa, but overall, perhaps the best Jawa sculpt.

Chewie is freakin' huge, with some decent articulation and nice detail.

The base that came with Vader made it a bit more palatable to buy yet another Vader, but I was a bit disappointed with the way it was done.

I didn't hate the Luke as much as others, and the vaporator was a great pack-in.

Biggs was a nice addition, but I might have traded some of the arm articulation for a a different leg pose or knee articulation.

The stormtrooper has helped me add to my stormtrooper army. I don't have too many, especially compared to all the clones. However, he is too wobbly in the middle. They way I have them displayed, they all seem like they are hunched over. I would have preferred a straight VOTC repack I think.

Jawa & LIN Droid all the way!

Strange, I had thought this wave was one of the better ones, but for me there are no real standouts... they are all fairly solid figures, but none of them are particularly memorable, save Biggs, and that figure could have been better.

I voted for the Stormtrooper, my all time favorite star wars character in SA format and NOT $9.99. What's great is they've been so easy to get hold of and I still find it very hard to pass them up when I see them on the pegs...the temptation!

second up was jawa with LIN droid, a very cool set of figures but I had to go with the stormtrooper.

this whole wave was amazing! We finally got tatooine biggs and a moisture vaporator as well

Jawa and LIN was my fave because it's a LIN Droid, and the Jawa stands out from all the Jawa's made to date.

My order of figs for this wave would be
1. Jawa and LIN
2. Luke Skywalker (Only because of the moisture vaporator. If it wasn't for the vaporator this fig would most likely be at the bottom.)
3. Stormtrooper (The figs useful for an army builder)
4. Concept Chewie
5. Biggs
6. Darth

I think I caught it first, but I pm'd you, JT.

Meanwhile, it's crazy how each wave so far has very clear winners:

Galactic Marine
Concept Fett
Jawa with LIN Droid

Only the Marine got my vote, but the majority here has very distinct tastes for the figures. I wonder if the whole poll will be so clear-cut.

Let's see: Waves 4 & 5 might be tougher. Wave 6 will probably go to that stupid McSnowTrooper (won't be my vote). Wave 7 - Ewoks vs. McSolo? Wave 8 will be interesting and I know my vote will be unpredictable.

Droid technically got my attention first on the matter because I saw his post on my cellphone while I was surfing the web waiting around during errands, but by then PF had already fixed it so I thought Droid was crazy or mistaken. PF gets the props and it doesn't matter. :p

This poll has been a real surprise, I never would have expected the Jawa w/ LIN to take a lead on this. It's not a bad figure, but I don't see it being such hot stuff considering it has as many little issues as successes. That's the magic of these polls, never know how it's gonna turn out.

Wow, excellent job keeping up with this JT. Man these polls are coming fast.

This was a little hard for me to pick.

Here's how I rank them from this wave:
Jawa & LIN Droid-Excellent Jawa version we've never had before and he's got some great articulation in the arms. The droid is a great addition to this and makes up for the lack of plastic. Really a good choice here from Hasbro and I should have bought more of them.
Concept Chewbacca-Almost picked this first. I really like this concept fig. Decent enough articulation. Only problem was the gun which for me has a permanent slight bend in it and the face isn't 100% accurate, though very close.
Imperial Stormtrooper-while I'm an army builder and I very much like this fig, it's main drawback for me is the removable helmet. Not that there is a Jango clone underneath, but rather that the helmets on all of mine are just a tad askew. Were it not for that it would have been second at least, if not first.
Luke Skywalker (moisture farmer)-figure sucks, but man is that one sweet accessory of a moisture vaporator. If we had a poll for best accessory (hint JT), this one would be right up there-next to the Kybuck no doubt.
Biggs Darklighter (academy outfit)-just an okay figure from a cut seen. Not to thrilling here. But it does have some custom potential.
Darth Vader (w/ Ben's robe base)-really the only thing redeeming about this was Obi's robe as a figure stand. I wasn't going to get this figure, but that dang stand (and coin) sucked me in.

Simple, JT.

The Stormtrooper is a minor change to an existing figure. Some don't consider him a new figure. Others are mad that Jango's head is on it. A lot of army builders even are Stormtroopered out.

Biggs is pretty good, but not spectacular.

I imagine 90% of us passed on Vader.

Luke sucks. No other way to look at it. He only sold for the vaporator.

Chewie is the only competition to the Jawa. And the Jawa is, well, he's a Jawa. Jawas are always better than Wookiees, even cool concept Wookiees. Unless it's an Itchy figure with Wookiee porn projector and CommTech chip. :beard:

my vote is a tie between the Stormtrooper and Luke Skywalker. Chewbacca was not a great figure, Vader is Vader etc.

Me neither. I mean, the Jawa is probably the best modern Jawa that we have gotten, but he's still another salt-shaker. I only bought this figure for the LIN Droid (because I thought CZ-4 could use some company).

Until we get a proper soft-goods Jawa, I'll always see the modern figures as inferior to the vintage toy.

I chose the stormtrooper. Even though he's retooled from the VOTC figure, he's a hell of a lot better. The helmet isn't deformed and yellow as the VOTC one has become, the plastic is super-white and looks like it won't fade, and he looks a lot better from the back than the VOTC one (the neck shows instead of the giant white ball). I have three and may eventually get more.

The Jawa was a close second.

Super white is right! I was looking at the TAC stormies next to the comm tech ones and the comm tech ones are kinda yellow-ee as well. These TAC stormies are the bomb! Never got a VOTC stormie to open so I didn't know about the yellowing helmet, that's a bummer.

I went for the Jawa & LIN droid...

It was nice to get a gimmick-free jawa (no funky clear plastic in the hood..which "worked" well but looked terrible) and the LIN droid is a welcome addition to the droid sale line-up...

But I almost went for the Vader with Ben's robe base...just something about that set-up really works for me.

My thoughts exactly. So far, as far as I can remember, I have resisted this temptation to buy yet another Vader for just that stupid plastic robe. But, I'll probably yield eventually. If I could get one of the softgoods jedi robes to "smush down" enonough, I might be able to save another $7. Then again, maybe in a moment of weakness, I may have already bought this and thrown it in a box.

Even though it was easily the one I voted for, I am still surprised so many people voted for the Jawa & LIN droid too.

While the Jawa & LIN Droid is a personal favorite from this line, especially given the level of detail that was applied to this otherwise potentially boring droid, I had to vote for the Concept Chewbacca. The fact that the figure was designed to stand at lease a head higher than the other characters really makes the grade. This bug-eyed incarnation of everyone's favorite Wookie, complete with photographer's vest and a nice pair of booties completes this great creation.

That said I am glad that the Jawa/LIN pack is in the lead none the less.

My vote goes to Concept Chewbacca. It's such a tall, distinctive figure and really stands out among the crowd.

Academy Biggs ranks up there with Chewie since he's a new figure and new figures generally always rank higher in my book than resculpts of the same character.

The LIN Droid really adds to the appeal of the Jawa, which was fairly well-done even it is a salt-shaker. If it came with a repack R5-D4, I doubt I would have bought it though.

I only bought the Luke for the vaporator.

I did not buy the Jango Stormtrooper or Vader.
